Saturday is flying by!
I'm beginning to feel better, slow but sure - no fever today. Ahhhh. I managed to do some cleaning out tasks and get outside for a bit, but it isn't what I'd call an active day!
@sljjjembeca - it is true that there are a lot of posts, but as @micki48 said, just posting a quick update about you is great! You do not need to respond to others if you don't have time, and if you have a question or a thing that you are interested in getting some discussion going, that is always welcome too. But just plain old news from you is always welcome. And I second the "use the computer not the phone" if you can for the chat thread. The app is fine for tracking, but less amazing for the discussions.
@eggfreak we are mid-January birthday buddies, so I'll hold you to it! 10 pounds by then is a stretch (1 pound a week without fail is a tough goal!) so maybe think more end of January or a bit beyond. You're right - that damnable switch gets lost in the dark sometimes And thanks for the virtual hug about dealing with dementia. I talked with my step-mother this morning, and there are some more new crazy things happening. I'll be back down there soon I hope, to give her a couple days' break. She is finally looking into a day care situation as well. I hope it works!
OK - got some fire to put out on another team! We just lost a fabulous captain (new job, insane schedule, family wildness) and I'll have to go over there to pick up the weigh-ins and stuff for a while.5 -

This month I am working on doing exercise that I really enjoy when I want to do it. I have run less and danced more. Tonight I feel tired so I am just watching Tv and relaxing.7 -
@sljjjembeca If I get really behind on reading posts. I usually read a few of the most recent posts, post my own and then just move on. I try and check posts in the morning and evening to keep up.
@jugar We have a lot of new people lately and it's been a long time since we did a "5 things about me" I know we did something like this when I first joined and it really helped me connect with the group.
I have the worst carb cravings in the world today! It's that time of the month so no surprise why the cravings are here. I had some of a french baguette and 2 squares of dark chocolate. Going to work out now and hope that satisfies the cravings.4 -
Thanks Sylvia @eggfreak for the support. We knew Dad had problems going back over 15 years ago but it has been a slow decline until the last year with a sharp downturn the last month. His delusions and hallucinations are beginning to make him a danger to himself and others. My mother may not be able to cope alone with him until we can get his medication sorted. She has been trying to shield us from it all but it's just too much for any one person to do alone.
I've been letting my emotions affect my eating and that needs to stop. Food won't make this easier.
Thanks for the support5 -
@conleywoods
Great idea about the 5 things. I had forgotten that one. If you have a minute in the next day or two, could you go ahead and get that rolling? I always love the introductions every month, but having to choose 5 specific things really goes into all kinds of interesting areas. Thanks!1 -
🌼🌼LET'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER! 🌼🌼
Okay friends here is how this works. We just did introductions with our basic information. Now let's share 5 new fun facts about ourselves that others might not know. Think about hobbies, interests or past events 🤔
I will get us started!
1. I played the cello when I was a kid.
2. My first car was a 1982 royal blue Volkswagen bug, the same year I was born.
3. My husband's mom set us up on a blind date when I was an intern at her school.
4. My daughter named my youngest son. She wanted to name him Charlie. We said "what if we name him something else?" Her response..."that's okay, I'll call him Charlie anyways ". Lucky for her I got a new student who was very naughty and had the same name I was originally planning. Charlie quickly moved up the list!
5. I had a beloved orange kitty named Charlie when I was little.6 -
Finished my day on target for calories. I did a 30 minute ballet workout which really helped distract me from the carbs. Made sure I had some protein for dinner to help with cravings. Spent to much time thinking about cupcakes today. Good thing the cupcake shop closes at 6 pm and is half an hour away. It was close but I made it!6

Fun idea @conleywoods and I loved your facts! Fun to know the MIL was vouching for you right from the start eh
Here are my 5 new fun facts:
1. I've lived in 19 houses in my 35 years - let's just say my family liked to move A LOT when I was young. Brad and I built our house in Airdrie just over 2 years ago and I am loving the feeling of settling in somewhere. My previous longest record in one home was 5 years.
2. I played provincial level softball when I was a kid.
3. I got a sociology degree in university and thought I'd end up in some sort of helping role but instead my summer student job at an oil and gas company has turned into a 15 year career and counting.
4. The furthest I've travelled is to the Philippines back in 2018.
5. Brad and I met on an online game called "Song Pop" - we are truly kindred spirits but were living 3600 KM away and this game is not dating related at all but a casual message one day turned into the most amazing love of my life.6 -
Today's exercise was such a mixed bag! I did a little of everything:
-10 minutes recumbent bike
-20 minutes resistance band strength training
-20 minutes yoga
-6177 steps
Brad comes home tomorrow night, so I'm looking forward to that. I will keep it fairly low key tomorrow - try to get my exercise in early and get my flu shot and just chill until it's time to pick him up from the airport.

Not good. I will halt this climb next week.5 -
Good morning Sunday, our clocks changed last night so I'd better get moving as the dark will come even faster this afternoon ...still too many outdoor tasks needing done! I had a good day yesterday, made a huge pot of my favorite, Martha Stewart Vegetable & Bean soup (anyone here long enough has heard this all before )It's delicious and since it's already in my Fitness pal recipes, easy to tweak the grams on ingredients...this batch works out to 108 calories/cup. 2 cup containers now stored in the freezer. Today experimenting with a 'lazy man's cabbage rolls' in the slow cooker - more of a casserole - haven't worked out the portions/calories yet. @conleywoods Charlie is a great name, for cats & kids - one of our favorite cats was a gray and white 'Charlie Brown' and he had extra toes on all four paws.
5 fun facts?
1. I've lived in the same house & garden my whole life except for a brief 6 months (@ashleycarole86 other ends of the spectrum, eh?!)
2. I'm not allowed to donate blood in the US because I spent a cumulative time of more than 6 months in the UK during the mad cow disease era
3. I've walked the West Highland Way in Scotland and a 100 mile walk through Tsavo in Kenya and when I'm no longer tied to the caregiving role...I intend to do more 'walking' vacations- 'the Herriot way' on the bucket list
4. I had a business tending gardens for nearly 20 yrs before switching to a office job 5 years ago.
5. I am a morning person.
Have a great day - make good choices and I will too!5 -

To be honest I cant keep up with all the posts either but I read them for the motivation and comment on the ones that resonate with me. It seems that I have more time for this on the weekend. Nothing wrong with doing your best - or your best at the time.
@conleywoods Love the idea of 5 things! Its funny how moms know things about us.
1. I started my career as an aircraft mechanic, my mom always thought I'd be a lawyer, but most of my career was in aviation safety and the funny thing was that my job was usually about negotiations.
2. I grew up playing lots of team sports (softball included!) but like hiking alone now
3. My family REALLY wants a dog and I've been delaying it for awhile. I don't want the added responsibilities even though I know it would also be great.
4. My first car was a 1971 truck that I had to start with a screwdriver.
5. I make an exceptionally good carrot cake.
Cant wait to read everyone else's 5 things!6 -
Great week of exercise @KellyBgetsfit - do you have an elliptical at home or are you at a gym?
Loving everyone's 5 things! Keep them coming4 -
1. I worked in New York for half a year in 2018 and had the best time ever.
2. In an average day, I write up to 4-5 different tv commercial scripts for brands.
3. In my spare time, I am taking German language classes but I suck at learning new languages.
4. Hawaii has been my dream destination since I was a kid. Can't wait to go there soon.
5. On an average day, I listen to more than 100 songs easily.8 -
OK @happimess01 as a fellow music lover in regards to point #5, what are 3 songs that almost always make it into the daily rotation?3

Five things about me:
1. I’ve lived in Florida in the USA my whole life
2. In 2002 I took a few weeks off work to hire a nanny for my newborn daughter and never went back. I have two kids and was able to be a stay at home dad for both of them. I’ve been a business owner the last few years but I still schedule work around the kids’ sport, school, and life events.
3. My wife and I met on a blind date and have been married 23 years.
4. My favorite exercises are hiking and backpacking.
5. Vacations are my happy place.8 -
Congratulations to everyone who participated this past week. Way to start November out strong!
