Dearest @jugar... Can I pretty please be excused for the week? I'm traveling and I don't have a scale in my hotel room. Back to normal next week. 😊

No problem! Have a good week without TOO much work. Time for walkies, ok?

But....I also ran out of freezer packs for lunch and had to use a bag of frozen chocolate chips for my husband's lunch. I told him to just bring them home at the end of the day. He gave me the your crazy look😆 But hey, a girl can dream!

Just so long as he doesn't use them to ice a sore muscle or anything! Melted, they just aren't the same... This cracks me up no end. I think everyone should get a little crazy over what they use to keep things cool

Busy day here. I'm at 6000 steps at is only 3pm so I am super excited about that. I have a 20 page paper due by 11pm on Sunday so my face might be buried in a book for the next few days. At least the treadmill has a place to hold my book so I can read and walk at the same time.

    Happy Wednesday, Friends!

So my nephew sent out some photographs from his wedding that the family attended in the summer. And I looked AWFUL! You know when you have an idea in your head about how you look, and then you spot a reflection in a shop window and are simultaneously shocked and surprised? Well that was me yesterday. I told my husband and temporarily forgot that I had married the loveliest man on the planet when he said "I just see a beautiful woman, Darling!" Well it certainly brought me up short and I have finally made the decision to make the changes that I need to make.

I'll let you know how I get on.

With regards to No Takeout November, Ben and I were discussing this very topic last night. We have decided to stop our habit of a weekly takeaway and replace it with a nice dinner out every fortnight (no fast-food venues!)

A bit of drama this morning - one of our old (it was originally second-hand) tall kitchen cupboards fell over, (just missing me, by the way!) - so I swapped my workout for sweeping up the contents that were damaged, removing tins and cans and putting storing them temporarily (on my dining table). Finally I rewarded my efforts with a new unit (solid oak, I'm so excited), which Ben and I will be collecting on Friday.

And @DD265 Whenever I read your workout schedule, it takes my breath away. You are so STRONG. I use weights regularly and don't lift anywhere near those numbers. You're very inspiring.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Team Waistaway!

Holy Moly, Yinka! You give us a lot to think about. I saw those photos you posted when you went to your nephew's wedding, and I have to say, I agree with your husband. You looked beautiful. But I know that feeling of remembering an event when you felt pretty amazing but the photo makes you feel bad! I think it happens the other way around, too. I look back at some photos from way back when, and I know at the time I thought I looked terrible, but now I see those photos and want to go back and have a strong word with myself! I DID look good. Maybe not as good as I wanted to, but there was nothing to get negative about in there.

So your view is through the lens of wanting to look as good as you feel, or as good as you want to. That is not a terrible lens, and if it helps you stick to your goals and get even more amazing, then go for it! We can look amazing in all shapes and sizes, but matching the feeling to the reality is the hard part sometimes. Remember @happimess01 telling us about the fear of being at a pool party without his shirt on for the first time? He was afraid he looked terrible, but actually, he was looking pretty danged good. And now he looks even better. So yeah - fear and appearance and the gaze of others - it is all a deep and confusing soup. We just have to laugh about it and move on, I guess!

    Lift those weights, people!

@holymanhibbard it's about the baby steps! It can feel overwhelming trying to make a complete lifestyle change, but if you break it into pieces and take it one day or even one meal at a time, you can do it without being overwhelmed. If you have a bad day, don't let it turn into a bad week, just accept it and move on and do better next time. Progress over perfection is the motto here.
You've got this! Give us specifics on what your biggest struggle is. I'm sure you feel alone but chances are someone here has faced the same struggle and could give you insight how they dealt with it.

I’m feeling very defeated, I feel like I will never succeed, I feel Ike I am destined to be big forever, how can I get motivated to do what I need to. I’m feeling like a big failure

You know what? You came here. That is a big success. As @PlaneMonkey said, from here on out, it is all about small changes. Logging what you eat honestly to see what is real. Cutting out some. Moving a bit more. There are some people in this team who were as hopeless as you, and they have done well - small step by small step. With friends. Like us - I hope you will read back some of the posts from the team and then pick one small trackable thing you can aim to do every day. Just drinking enough water. Cutting out a few calories a day. We're always amazed at how scary it is every single time you have to get started - so don't worry about the scary. Try for one day that is better. Pick a calorie goal and hit it for one day. Come here and tell us about it. We've been there!

If you can, please introduce yourself - where are you? what do you like doing? whatever you want to tell. You're welcome here, and in good company.

    One more thing!

I know you won't want to do this, but it is time for an updated weigh-in for this week. Even if you do not like the number, it is just information. Each week, whether it goes up, down, or stays the same you see what is working and what isn't. This is all an experiment - so please post your weight for this week, and we'll go from there. Reach out and you'll hear lots of ideas!

    Here's a quick update:
I have been really good with food, staying under (but very close to) my calorie goal most days. Unfortunately, I did no workouts but I did pick-up an old rowing machine from someone who didn't want it, so I'm going to try that as I get bored of doing the same thing for too long.

I downloaded the app Libra to track my weight daily. This is a tricky issue for me as I have a compulsion to weigh daily but then reward/punish myself with food. I have tried sticking to weekly but find that hard so I'm hoping the tracking will rewire my brain to accept the daily fluctuations. Anyone else do this?

Logging food used to work a treat, helping me lose weight quite consistently but now I worry that age has slowed me down, I'm turning 40 soon. That's another thing to work on- patience...

    Have a wonderful day everyone

    @YinxFed firstly I think you're gorgeous!

In terms of strength, I used to be very weak. I was lucky that I found a physio who trained me from the ground up, and I think it was going on 12 months before we even picked up a barbell. Thankfully, despite not training for over two years, that foundation has stayed in place and just needed to be activated again with the help of a sports injury therapist. It took a while to believe that myself, but that invincible feeling I'm chasing is starting to show up for fleeting visits.
I’m feeling very defeated, I feel like I will never succeed, I feel Ike I am destined to be big forever, how can I get motivated to do what I need to. I’m feeling like a big failure

Is there one thing you can do to take some control? Maybe drinking X amount of water or swapping a chocolate bar for an apple. It only needs to be small and easily achievable, and motivation will build on top.

@Pearl4686 I weigh daily. I find the fluctuations easy to explain; "oh I ate something salty last night" or "I drank loads of water". I remember a WW coach being horrified that I weigh in daily, but I see it as information so I can make an adjustment. If I've lost/maintained then I can think about what worked from the day before and keep doing it, and if I've gained, then I can look for the probable reason and plan to minimise that whilst understanding that it's not a terrible thing and is totally normal for weight to go up and down. A lot of people use an app that shows the average trend, or average the week for their weigh in. I have Garmin scales so these feed into MFP and I just use whatever the weight is on a Monday.

@Pearl4686 I also weigh daily and absolutely love seeing the data. You definitely have to be in the right headspace about it - you'll have a great day and be up because you ate later than usual or drank more water or something like that. As long as you can look at that logically then I think weighing daily is best. The data has helped me so much and over time I actually don't feel bothered by the number when it goes up but like @DD265 it allows me to think about the reasons and if I do have legitimate reason to make a change, I can do that.

@holymanhibbard We live in Alberta and we love mountain hiking too! Great to have you with us. I am sad to hear things feel so helpless but being here for yourself is a great first step. We are all finding our way in some fashion... looking forward to being part of your journey!

@jugar you did not miss my weigh in. I didn't post Wednesday because I was mad at my digestive system and today I totally forgot to step on the scale, so I apologize, but I assure you, there will be data from me first thing tomorrow am.
I should become a daily weigh person and then use the weekly average like some other do. Makes for less fluctuation maybe.

I should check into my macros or the nutrient values I'm logging as it seems I need to up my fibre intake.... Things just aren't processing as quickly as I would like! 😉🤣

@PlaneMonkey: I feel your pain. I started eating atkins endulge bars (peppermint patty, chocolate mousse, chocolate caramel squares, and coconut are all good). They have a lot of fiber and all but the coconut ones are low calorie and low carb.

I'm 67 - and yeah, logging gets old sometimes! But gradually we get it through our heads that it works, keeps on working, and while breaks are OK, I know at least for myself that non-logging for too long usually pushes my weight up. I have a very boring eating routine most of the time, and I know when I'm on target usually, but then the "treats" slip in if I'm not logging. And once they do, it is hard to shift them out again! When I'm feeling the need to be extra careful, I log before eating. Every time. Or read the labels and put the thing down!

Daily weighing can be useful as long as you don't take a dip as a reason to reward yourself with food, or a gain to beat up on yourself. It is information about how your previous day went, but then there are all the unexpected elements like salt, exercise timing and intensity, hormones, and probably a million other things. I have weighed daily for 10 years, with a few exceptions for travel, days when I KNOW the number will be bad (just skip those sometimes!), or just taking a break for a week or so to see how I do. I like having the information and then thinking about what might have influenced the day's numbers.

Hi everyone, I am truly grateful for the kind words you all offered to me, I’m just in a place of hopelessness that I won’t be able to lose the weight. I’m going to pick myself up, and keep trying, and start doing a few things. I live in maine, and absolutely love mountain hiking, but have been really busy, and not able to do much, I also love to do woodworking. I recorded my weight, and this is where I stand:
    pw: 219
    cw:219.5

Wonderful! You're off to a start. Maine is gorgeous for hiking - I'm only an hour and a half from the Maine border in Québec, and I have had many a happy time hiking there. But even a 20 minute walk outside helps make the habit. No need to go for a huge exercise session, a long hike, or anything like that at first - short walks are a great way to start. And then if you do more because it is just so great outside, you feel like a hero.

I am amazed! We walked from North Dakota to Texas?? What a feat with our feet

I have had a very low step day today - I started off well, my nose is less plugged up, so I did a good Pilates 30 minutes with upper body work, and it felt good. But then after lunch I spiked a crazy fever and decided to let it burn for a while to kill off whatever it is I am fighting (covid test was negative!). So I guess it will take a few more days to get rid of the thing. Hmmph. Makes me grumpy. No exercise bike tonight again.

So gang, we are heading into the last couple of days of Week 1 November. Time for
