Hi, Kristi @conleywoods! Great to meet you. I lived in WA for four years: Seattle. I remember one day we got a dusting of snow there. I have never seen anything like it before or since -- it was absolute mayhem! Chains on tires, people skidding off the road, so many accidents. I have spent most of my life living in MA and VT...oh! I just always think about that one winter in WA -- it was just supreme!

Congratulations @evangsimmons170 and a gorgeous photo2

New year, new motivation! I finally signed up for Supernatural VR on the Quest 2 - if anyone else uses it, I'd love to have some friends on there! Working on bringing my sugar cravings down, which means less sugar and carbs. Going on Day 2 and feeling pretty determined
I expect my weigh-in to be a mess tomorrow with water retention and coming back from the holidays.4 -
@evangsimmons170 Beautiful wedding photo and such an inspiring intro. Welcome back, so glad to have you and looking forward to seeing you slay this year ahead!
@DD265 Good point about stride length.. something I've never thought about before but that would make such a difference.
@metaphysicalstudio Jenn, did your 32 minutes of walking get captured in the 6861 steps, or was this in addition to those steps? Just want to make sure I'm giving you accurate credit.
It's COLD in Manitoba (what else is new) and I've been getting all my steps walking around my Dad's house. Makes me feel like a goof, but it gets the job done. I love my options when I travel now - I bring my yoga mat and some light dumbbells and I'm set. I asked for a jump rope for Christmas and I also have different kinds of resistance bands and of course my own bodyweight so I've left myself with no excuses. I do miss having access to my Peloton but I'll make up for it when I get home
Last full day here with Dad - it's a quiet sleeper town he lives in so it's a very relaxing place to be. Supposed to get some snow today so fingers crossed for good roads for our trip back tomorrow.4 -
Happy Tuesday!
Just read a good article to keep us inspired
Even 1 small change can lead to healthier eating. Here are 6 to consider.

Hi everyone!
It is freezing here and my first day back at work so I drove to work in -40C wind chill. The blowing snow made the visibility quite poor at times. It was a stressful drive and I am not looking forward to driving home.
1/3 exercise:
15,745 steps which included a 90 minute stint on the treadmill and a brisk 10 minute walk in the freezing cold with my hubby.4 -
@metaphysicalstudio I live near Mt. Spokane on the other side of Washington state where we have real winter and can drive appropriately! Ha, Seattle is a total wreck when they get a skiff of snow. We had relatives move here after 30 years in Seattle and it was a bit of an adjustment. They quickly bought there first set of snow tires and now get around like pros. I think every summer we have someone from Seattle move to our road. We will get 10 inches and they usually can't imagine it will get any worse. They are generally disappointed and a for sale sign is up in the spring. I have visited Vermont and Massachusetts once when I was a kid in the fall. So beautiful!2

Ooooh, yum, Sam @happimess01! These are just what I need. When are you delivering them to my house?
hahaha they are super easy to make..get baking -2 -
1/3 exercise:
8250 steps + 20 minutes yoga0 -
@happimess01
Yes, Sam, there IS one weird ingredient in there. Chocolate. Peh. (OK, it's a genetic defect...)
@kellie_erin I hope you get home all right! That cold and snow with those Alberta winds = no fun driving. At least people stop to help you really, really fast if you have a problem! Hot beverage upon arrival home
I am really enjoying this new year whoosh into better practices - hope it lasts! How are you all doing on keeping the tasks you set for this week? If there are any that are not working, what can you change? I have one that is not working and I'm not quite sure what is holding me back, but this is a good time to either change tactics or figure out the block. If it is all going great, keep the pleasure of it front of mind and tell us all about it!

Habits I set for Jan were as follows:
1) minimum 5K towards my 10K step goal to be done in actual steps
2) core strength 1x/week
3) yoga/stretching 4x/week
4) push-ups every second day
So far, so good. I set these goals specifically to vary my exercise, but so far I've been away from home (and my Peloton), so all I have is this variety!
So, got a good head start and I've done yoga three days in a row and I've done my core strength. The push-ups are done. And steps are easier to get here because I have less to do in general.
A lot of the test is still ahead of me, but I'm focused on continuing when I get home!3 -

Rhonda @evangsimmons170 - I enjoyed the determination I read in your entry, and WOW - such a gorgeous wedding photo. I too received a health wake-up call this past year, and I hope to find the strength to deal with it head-on. Thanks for the inspiration.2

@evangsimmons170 Oh my gosh the wedding looks beautiful 😍 Don't hesitate to post more pictures! Glad you were able to make the job change to home. Your to do list must be a lot shorter by now! Good luck on your health journey.
@ashleycarole86 You have done such a great job staying on track while away at your dad's 👏 It's so easy to let things slide when away from home. Not you! Awesome job.3 -

Oh my gosh, @conleywoods! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders; the stress was off the charts. Too bad that doesn't translate into losses on the scale because Lord knows I'd be down at least 50 pounds! LOLOL4 -

That was my mantra leading up to the wedding: I didn't come to play; I came to slay! LOLOLOL2 -

I’m giving myself a little grace today. My steps are barely 6,000 but I’m tired. I did get my Pilates done. Had the busy grand all day. She doesn’t let me out if her sight. My daughter’s interview went great! We should hear something official very soon. I’ve logged most of my food. Ate a little bit of junk under stress.4

I did well on exercise today - and now I'm going to have some nuts and dates. And herbal tea. Enjoy your reliefs today!6

1/4 Steps: 4,353
I woke up sick today and didn't hit my step goal. Tomorrow I'm going to have to go back and catch up on all of the posts! Y'all have been busy the past couple of days, and I'm behind!2 -
Today is off to a productive start so I'm happy. I've resolved an issue I thought we might need an electrician for which is always a bonus.
I managed to stay within my calorie goal yesterday; having had a yoghurt AND a banana AND a cereal bar in the morning (usually I'd have one of the three), I halved the bread quantity with my stew for tea and didn't put butter on it - was fine and I was still satiated afterwards. I was hungry when I woke up this morning so will do battle all over again today. The meal plan is roasted sweet potato and carrot soup for lunch, and lamb rogan josh for tea, both from the freezer.
Running after work with my friend and her co-worker. I'm always a little nervous about running with new people in case there's pressure to go faster or whatever, but I am sure she'll be more nervous and it sounds like she's only recently gotten back into running.
The biggest challenge I have at the moment is fitting everything into my calorie budget. It's not a small budget but the side dishes are adding up, which makes it harder to fit a snack in which makes me more likely to want to rebel. For example, I'll have bread with lunch (188cals), and naan (293cals) and rice (143cals) with tea - those add up to over a third of my daily calories. I think I will halve the portions of the sides and see whether I still feel full (like last night).
How do other people handle side dishes?2 -
Things are going well here. Feeling better, but didn't hit my step goal yesterday. I ended up working late.
I am a bit jealous of you all being able to exercise! Although since I can't bend over, I have become quite good at squats. 😆
I've been eating pretty good this week. The scale is happy with me, so cross your fingers I keep it up till Sunday.
Have a great day!4 -

I want to throw my scale out the window. I know it is just a number, but after being so off last week with my food and exercise, I thought I would definitely see a loss this week. 🤷♀️ I have hit 10,000 + steps and logged everyday since Sunday. I feel good about my week, even if the scale doesn't agree.5 -

Sorry I haven't introduced myself yet, I've been under the weather and am waiting for the results of a covid test to confirm Omicron got me! The symptoms have been more like a strong sinus cold but the sniffling and dripping has kept me inside and on the couch.
I'm Courtney, 41, married, with two cats and a teenaged step daughter we see on weekends. I live in beautiful Val-des-Monts Québec and am so grateful we bought our fixer upper of a home before the pandemic was on the horizon or else I'd have never been able to afford our little slice of heaven. Covid definitely made a lot of people in our area decide cottages are a better vacation choice than international travel and even places like mine that need serious work have been snapped up for ridiculously inflated prices.
As for my career, I used to fix airplanes and now I'm a bureaucrat writing policy on how to fix airplanes. Biggest change for me is now I can work from home which adds 1.5 hours of free time to my day that I'm not commuting, but I no longer get as many steps in just from the nature of my job. Luckily the home reno schedule has kept me moving.
I have been with the group since I had an epiphany in August 2020 after gaining 25lbs in 3 months from pandemic stress eating and day drinking. I reached my first weight-loss goal of 190lbs in late spring 2021 and have managed to maintain it within a 10lb pendulum swing. I would like to eventually see if I can make it to 175lbs but I'm giving myself grace these days as life has been throwing hurdles.
My father was admitted to the hospital to deal with his dementia and has since had severe side effects to medications along with a UTI that has caused delerium and stroke like symptoms. My mother is his primary caregiver and isn't altogether healthy herself so there has been a lot of added stress all around. I know that eating junk food isn't the solution and I try to keep the voices of the people in the group in my head when I reach for that certain cabinet door to remind me moderation is key and backtracking on progress isn't going to make me feel better.
Everyone here is so inspiring with their journey, I'm very grateful for all the little tricks I've learned.
I'm giving myself until Sunday to wrap up my bad habits and mini pity-party and I will get back to logging and goals next week.7 -
@happimess01 I am definitely going to try those brownies!
@evangsimmons170 welcome back! Congratulations on your wedding.
@Gidgitgoescrazy Welcome back. I know how much you love your workouts, but it is better to let your body heal after back surgery.
@micki48 I think your such an amazing mom and Grandma. Hopefully your daughter finds out soon to relieve your stress. Moving is stressful but it is a different kind of stress then not knowing.2
