You all sound like you're doing great getting back into a routine after the holidays! I don't go back to work until tomorrow, which is great so I'm doing a bunch of meal prep today.
1/2 exercise:
17,362 steps + 10 flights of a stair on a hill, for which Fitbit gave me 80 total flights (I'm not sure if this counts beyond the steps, but it was tough!)
We had a really nice day yesterday - a break in the deep freeze that Alberta is currently experiencing - got up to around 1C. But now it's back down to about -20C. The temperature change wreaks havoc on my body for sure 😅4 -
1/2: 27 minutes weightlifting + 3974 steps3
-
For the step challenge, my goal is 8,000 steps per day.3

Hi all. I did my starting weigh in today. 198. Do I just write it here to report it? Do I sign up for the step challenge somewhere? Do I report here? Thanks for any advice. 🤪
Hi Wendy! Great to see you here - this is the place for everything. You report here, chat here, rant, ask questions, anything you like. I fill in the spreadsheet data every week for weights, and @ashleycarole86 for steps and/or exercise. If you have time, read the posts from the beginning of the month (if you have not yet) and try to drop by every day to keep the level of encouragement and accountability high. It helps a lot! The very first posts here in the month explain how everything works.
I had your starting weight (from when you signed up) as 197, so this weigh-in is your week 1. If that is not correct, let me know!
Bookmark the Fat2Fit home page and check out the full group challenge (new one every week), the recipe thread, the habit tracker, and the weekly results:

Happy Monday! We're at -20C (-2F) today (thanks, Alberta!) but I welcome the real January temps. I know. It's weird, but it makes me happy Mind you, Alberta does exaggerate a bit.
I'm feeling a bit sore from my return to more strength building workouts, but it just shows I needed to get on that and stick with it. The upper and mid back work is what feels the best. Tightening up everything in there always makes a huge difference. Pilates helps, but this is going further.
This week's challenge is a tough one! Every day there are questions to answer - some of them are hard, but it is all a good way to deepen the new year energy and form a better idea of what steps to put into place. If you haven't been over there, check it out!

Feeling more motivated than I have in months 😊3 -
Got outside for a nice, long hike yesterday during our short respite from the bitter cold here in Alberta. Now it’s -25 again (-35 with the windchill) and snowing like crazy. I’m planning to use my treadmill and watch a guilty pleasure program later this afternoon. I try to save those guilty pleasures as an incentive for treadmill time. One more week of crazy cold before we get back to reasonable temperatures.

While it's a step challenge, your daily steps from your tracker AND your minutes of intentional exercise will all count.
Please let me know if you're joining for January (returning members will be automatically re-added unless you tell me otherwise), and provide me with a daily step pledge (if you'd like to make one) so I can include you in those stats as well.
Then, report by the end of the day Sunday for the Sunday-Saturday of the previous week. You're also welcome to report daily like me, or whatever is easiest for you. As long as all the week's stats are there by end of day Sunday wherever you live, your steps will be counted in my weekly report.
I can attest to having to report in making it easier to get the exercise done. If you're motivated by the same, join us, and let's get inspiratin for by one another. No matter your goals, all are welcome!
Can you include me in Step Challenge for January? I will use my tracker and other activity using the StepConversionChart posted here for counting the steps1 -
I made Boo's ridiculous brownies today and they turned out great. Easy to make, delicious, huge quantity and low macros(366 kcal for 9g carbs, 14g fats, 40g protein), what else is there

That looks really good @happimess01!
I went for my run earlier and clocked in around 9.5k, which is the longest for a while. I wore the chest heart rate monitor and found it to be more consistent against the watch - maybe my weight gain means it's a bit tighter so I get better readings.
Food has been on point today, but I do need to get more water in before bed. Back to work tomorrow so it'll be easier to drink water, and maybe a little more challenging on the food side, particularly if I experience the afternoon slump. Having plasterers working in the hallways will hopefully dissuade me from heading to the kitchen.7 -
Hi! I'm Kristi and I live in Washington USA. I'm 39, married for 14 years and we have 3 kids age 12, 10 and 7. I also have 2 dogs and 3 guinea pigs. I
work 4 days a week at a preschool center as an occupational therapist. I am getting close to 3 years of a slow weight loss journey. I have been with this group for 2 years. I am just finishing up a 12 week diet break that also included about a 1 month exercise break. I had hoped to keep my gain to 5lbs or less and did so until we lost our dog to old age. So I have one less dog and 10 extra lbs. Bad trade for sure. I am looking to get back on track and I am always looking for the most sustainable way that works for my life. I have gotten to a lower weight but it hasn't always been sustainable.
Glad to see everyone in here old and new!8 -
Some inspiration for you all!

Just love those step reports @ashleycarole86 ! Let's see how far we can get this week
I had a great snowshoe today - it was cold so I didn't have to take off my hat and mittens, undo my coat, tie my scarf around my waist after the first couple of hills. Everything stayed on today! It was a crystal clear day, so the view when I got to the highest point on our land was beautiful. There were lots of tracks made by our resident coyote - it seems there is one, but it might be a pair.
@dd265 I hope everything goes all right with your renovations. That is quite the big project you have going by the sounds of it, together with going back to work, your OH's new job - lots has been happening. You're the boss at meal prep, though. You should give us a seminar!
@conleywoods
Thanks for the photos of the fun cards! Those are always a blast.

My niece is trying to join us but she is having a difficult time getting to this thread and being able to comment. She has a different phone than me, so I’m having trouble helping her.
I have met my step goal today. About to go finish logging. Working on the water. No actual exercise. We had a windy rainy storm last night with snow today. Got a call from my daughter at 7:30 am. They lost power and needed to come over. My daughter has her interview tomorrow. I’m having all kinds of feelings about making a move, especially while navigating a COVID surge. Ughhhhh So I never got to my Pilates. Boooo. I will have my granddaughter early tomorrow while Kirsten has a 3 hour zoom-like interview.
Anyway, really going to have to work hard to keep it together this week. I will take all your good vibes if you don’t mind.4 -

You're in - glad to have you!
If you want to make a step pledge to be counted in those stats, let me know what you're targeting to.
Just to be clear, you don't have to worry about doing the activity to step conversion yourself - I do that on the spreadsheet (but you can always see the details in my formulas if you want to see how things are being assigned).
Happy stepping all! I'll be back in a bit with the December month-end report.

Always glad to see you here and hope your niece finds her way as well. If there's anything I can do to help her find us, just let me know! I have an Android.

That thing that might not happen, and certainly will not happen today, don't let worrying about that thing keep you from your 15 minutes of Pilates or a wild session of marching around the house if it is bad weather. Your daughter is having an interview. You are having a good day. Gooood vibes from Mom. And from all of us to you!3 -
Today was a wash, I don't think I slept at all last night, i couldn't get comfortable and I had hot/chill flashes constantly... I was just miserable... I went into work but only stayed an hour, cause I just wasn't feeling it. It snowed today, and was cold. I will work from home tomorrow because it's going to be very icy and luckily my work understands that a slip and fall would be really bad for me at this point.
Food was good today. I really didn't have an appetite, so if anything I under ate...
Here's to a good nights sleep and a better tomorrow... 😴

@DD265 I'm going to channel my inner Katie and make some freezer meals and dinner prep. Just bought a new crock pot today to replace my very small one. Hope your home renovations go well and on time.
@micki48 Hang in there. If you move, you move. If she doesn't get the job, you stay put. I know it's hard to not let your mind run wild with a possible move to do list. It's obviously important that you guys are all together. Sending hugs3 -
@conleywoods I still love those cards! Enjoy the results of your meal prep - and the prep itself, if you can lol
@micki48 I would be stressing about a potential move as well. Your daughter is very lucky to have you supporting her.
@jugar it's not a huge house but yes the living area and hallways make up a big chunk of it. We've been here almost 3 years and the state of the hallways/living room has always bothered me. Old tatty carpet, walls and skirting I could never get clean no matter how much I scrubbed, and horrid textured ceilings. I know it'll be a weight off my shoulders so well worth the temporary disruption and cost.
As far as meal prep goes, I kind of "levelled up" as follows so it wasn't a horrendous shock:
1 - meal plan each week in advance
2 - don't scale down recipes - there are 2 of us, but most recipes serve 4 - and freeze the extra portions
3 - double recipes that suit it; stews, curries and soups all cook better in bigger quantities IMO, and taste better reheated
4 - cook one extra meal per week for the freezer
5 - cook several freezer meals in one weekend
I do want to incorporate a few more 'fresh' dishes each week, like stir fry, but we desperately needed some freezer space this week and using our freezer food allowed us to come in under the month's food budget.
@ashleycarole86 thanks for all the effort you're putting in to the step report! If only I took shorter steps, I could increase mine by 50% but it's actually quite a lot of effort. I take after my dad and have a long stride, which I need to keep up with OH, but when I walk with Mom she gets way more steps than I do. Perhaps I shall try it on my next walk; more effort means more calories burned, right?
Early start this morning for training - we talked about my next goals so C can put together a program, and then began the preparation for one of them which is to be able to hold a handstand unsupported for 10 seconds (because why not?). We'll also be focusing on running, then in a couple of months when the weather has improved for us to train outside we can look at the overhead press. Came home and did some last minute prep for the plasterers, and now the cats and I are holed up in the office. Some of us are happier about that than others!2 -
Happy belated New Year, everyone! I'm Rhonda from Central Texas, and I'm 53 years. I'm a school administrator for an online public school and work from home. Best. Job. Decision. Ever! I've been in absentia from this group for a while due to so many great things happening all at once. In the last 4 months, I've gotten engaged, moved, sold my house, gotten married, went on my honeymoon, and finished another doctoral course, all while working. Needless to say, my health did not make the priority list at all. After a routine EKG in my cardiologist's office last week, I was told my heart is in atrial fibrillation, meaning that I have an irregular heartbeat. They put me on a blood thinner and increased my blood pressure meds. Talk about a wake up call!
Rather than get depressed about this recent diagnosis, I've chosen to do something about it. One year from now, I will graduate with my doctorate in educational leadership. One year from now, my Christian devotional book will have been published and on the market. So, I started thinking that one year from now, my health could be completely improved and I will have lost about 100 pounds or so. Sometimes envisioning the possibiities can be such a great motivator. Where do I want to be one year from now? Then, I broke that down into increments. Where do I want to be in 3 months? What does that future look like? Some things are not as out of my control as I assumed. What I do today will affect the future me.
OK, well you get my point. So, I'll stop my 'stream of consciousness' for now. Thanks for letting me share. I wish all of you God's best this year! I'm glad to be back.
@jugar my starting weight is 364.4, and my weigh-in day will be Thursdays. (Yes, as in 2 days from now. I have to go out of town this weekend for my mother-in-law's funeral and don't want to wait a week to get this ball rolling on my journey to a healthier me.)

@jugar: really cold here, too, in Massachusetts USA. But I took the dog out for an abbreviated walk by the lake. The ice spooked her a bit. Stay warm!

@waifer003 What a beautiful photo! We've got the freezing temperatures here in Massachusetts USA, but no snow to speak of yet, which makes me sad.
