O glorious rest day!!! It's pouring rain, and a lot of our snow has melted overnight, due to the warm temperature and south wind.
@rheddmobile Thank you for the wonderful crackerdog explanation! Glad you're getting your medication sorted out.
I had to read the post by @SummerSkier twice to make sure she wasn't calling me an "old lady with character."6 -
LOL @Tramboman
@rheddmobile sounds promising that the smaller dose might be helpful to you. That is so cute about the little boy.
@quilteryoyo a good cry can be so helpful when stressed. Hope things settle for you. I'm also kind of giving myself a break until March and hopefully a fresh start will help get the running mojo back.
@polskagirl01 aw, thank you. I have running snowshoes. I have barely used them for running. It's very hard! A friend of mine got into it a bit last year but she found it very hard on the knees too. I prefer just walking when I snowshoe. I also have mountain hiking snowshoes that are spikier and have a heel lift to help on ascents.

Yesterday I finally got outside for a run. It was 41 degrees but really windy so I was colder than i expected and wished I had packed warmer layers. Today it's already 50 degrees but again, windy. I ran on the treadmill before strength training again.6 -
@rheddmobile, I’m glad the smaller dose worked better for you!
I had the rare opportunity to get in a weekday morning run since I have to take my dog to the vet this morning. 55F and overcast, so it was pretty comfortable. I got in two miles before getting.
February miles: 37.71
48 day streak3 -
@Tramboman mission accomplished.
4 miles this morning. Still windy. 77.77 out of 100 planned so on track. Tomorrow supposed to be freezing here again. LOL Right now it's 63 f.3 -
Rest day today. It's very windy outside; they're warning people to stay home if possible. We haven't seen any damage, hoping it stays that way.
Re: crackerdog 🥰 I read the James Herriot books as a kid as well. For a long time, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
My back feels totally fine today 🙂6 -

That's great about your back!!!0 -
@SummerSkier Having a race or something probably would help motivate me. Maybe I need to start looking. I would like to do the AF HM in real life, but who knows if it will happen or not. The last 2 years it hasn't and running it solo in 2021 (with help from @Teresa502 ) was not the best way to do a first HM. I'll have to research some other races and see what looks like fun to me.
@kgirlhart I'm so glad that you are back to normal.
Your pace amazes me @SummerSkier !
You are amazing @Teresa502 ! Maybe a race to look forward to is what I need. If it is the angle of the camera, you need to patent it.
@marisap2010 Sorry you had a scrappy run. I hope yesterday's was better.
@rheddmobile Glad you are getting the medication dialed in and hope you'll be back to your speedy running soon. Love the story of the little boy. Kids are so resilient and excited about doing new things.
Thanks @katharmonic . We can start anew together.
@polskagirl01 Glad your back is okay today!
The last two days I have gone for a 2.25 mile wun on the driveway. Yesterday's was between work and church in the afternoon. Today, I got up early so I could get it in before going to work at 12:00. I walked one lap and then ran the flat spots of the driveway and then walked another quarter mile for cool down...not that I needed it probably. Anyway, today I did run a little bit more and the 2nd mile, which was all wunning was about 30 seconds faster than yesterday's second mile. But, the overall time spent was one second slower today. LOL Oh, I did sort-of follow one of the suggestions. When I got up this morning, instead of leaving my PJs on, I did change into my running tights. I left the PJ top on just because I didn't want to put on a sports bra before I was ready to head out. But, having them on did help me not even think about backing out of the wun.

@quilteryoyo happy to hear you got out for some wuns 😃
Cold and windy didn't sound fun, so I did another 6 miles on the treadmill this evening. Did a couple 1 minute sprints every mile to break things up. It didn't suck.

2/15: 4.51 miles
2/16: 5.15 miles
2/17: 5.20 miles
33.19/30 miles completed for February
I guess I underestimated my goal this month because the 5 miles that I ran this morning got me over 30 for the month. It was difficult to know what to set since February is a short month, we often have bad weather and I started the month with Covid.
The run today was not really bad or good. It was about 58°F when I started with a light mostly west wind. So I wore shorts and a t-shirt which was OK. But about half way through the wind picked up and shifted to the north and a cold front blew in. I was kind of cold and wishing I had brought my sleeves and gloves. I was expecting the cold front this morning, just not as early as it got here. Other than that it wasn't a bad run. I did see a skunk. Twice. I think it was actually the same skunk. I saw him when I was headed out and then again on my way home.
I got new shoes today, but they came with the mail so I didn't get to run in them yet. My feet are starting to get some niggles that I think are shoe related. I have about 375 miles on this pair. I have been thinking I needed to get some new shoes and this weekend I got an email from Saucony about a free t-shirt for "Galentines Day" so I figured that was a sign that I should order the shoes.
Thanks @rheddmobile and @quilteryoyo It definitely feels good to be getting back to normal. I am glad you are getting your medication sorted out rheddmobile and glad you were able to get out for a wun quilteryoyo.

Still here but our internet is playing up - usual story with the internet provider insisting we do have service, even though we clearly don’t. It’s making my work incredibly difficult but it’s not their problem, it’s also cramping my social media life!
However, more importantly, I’m still running. My body was (relatively) great after my half (possibly because I took it so slowly) and I’ve had three runs since.
I hear ya @quilteryoyo about the lost mojo - I we through a big wobble recently, and have to admit I’m not fully back. For me, the key is to get out there anyway. It may not be pretty and it may be slow but, as they say, no one ever regretted going for a run.5 -
@Scott6255 You did great. I'm glad the treadmill run didn't suck. I find breaking it up with sprints or doing a ladder really keeps the boredom to a minimum.
@kgirlhart Thanks. Love the new shoes and free shirt. AND congrats on making your monthly goal.
Thanks @ContraryMaryMary . Glad you feel so good after your HM. I hate dealing with companies that insist something is one way when clearly it isn't. I hope you get your internet fixed soon. I have issues all the time and it is really frustrating.2 -

Yesterday I ran 4 miles at lunch. The sun was shining and it was 64F. The wind was really strong but it was so warm. My electricity went off for about 3 hours in the evening and I’m sure it was due to the wind blowing a tree down on the lines. This morning I ran 5 miles. The temp was 45F which is great for 5 am and it was still a little breezy. The temp has continued to drop since and last time I looked outside it was snowing.
Nice shoes and bonus shirt @kgirlhart!
Another gorgeous picture @Aine8046!

Great picture @Aine8046 What country are you in?
I had a busy morning and just did a quick strength workout. Really just the minimum to get something on the calendar.3 -
You have a beautiful place to run @Aine8046 !
Hahahaha @Tramboman !
Glad you got out early when the weather was nicer @Teresa502 . It was cold here, but no snow.
I had a CT scan of my heart this morning - a one year + follow up from the aneurysm surgery. I will see the surgeon next week for the results. I was very happy that the dye didn't make me feel really hot like it does sometimes. I had other things to do while I was out, so didn't get home until 4:30. I was really tired, so just did a mile on the treadmill. I did speed it up and bit and did 3.9 mph. It felt a lot faster than 3.8 mph. LOL5 -

I hit day 50 of my streak today. We’re going to Clearwater, FL to visit hubby’s parents, but I got up and did 1.5 miles before taking the dogs to the kennel and heading to Florida. It was 32F, but it didn’t feel too bad. I’m happy that I’ll have some warmer weather for running for the next week.
February miles: 39.315 -
@Tramboman You are doing great to run on the treadmill when you dislike it so much. Way to push yourself.0
-
Not too bad. Thought I could probably do 15 miles today, but didn't think it would be the fastest 15 miles in 4 years 😁 Felt unusually good for some reason.

@rheddmobile - I also read all the James Herriot books and still have them in a boxed set. I had forgotten his cracker dog reference but knew it from somewhere.
@kgirlhart - Great shoe porn!
@quilteryoyo - glad you are getting som 'wuns'! Pretty sure you will be back to your regular runs before you know it and probably just in time for some lovely spring running!
@marisap2010 - Great job keeping the streak alive before going to FL! Hope you get to enjoy some warmer weather there.
Hope everyone on the eastern US (and south too?) avoid another big storm and those in the UK are all safe from the winds and storm there.
Believe it or not we are supposed to have lows in the low 30's - a shocking temp for us! Hope it doesn't damage my plants, especially the tangerines and oranges!
Out for a run with the pup and was hoping to be able to run more. Tripped on the sidewalk as we neared the trail and had to have my husband come and get me. It is never good to lead with your face when you fall. Next stop - urgent care. Good news is no stitches required, no broken teeth (though sore) and my Tifosi running sunglasses didn't break but have a pretty good scratch. Oh and no broken bones! I have a large cut on my cheekbone from those sunglasses, a very sore and swollen, cut up lip, a skinned and bruised knee (my leggings were undamaged??) and an arm I can barely move. Guess I braced myself with it before I hit my face! Kind of feel like I was hit by a truck but feel lucky there is nothing seriously wrong.
Tomorrow was going to be a yoga day but we will see how it goes. Monday's run will depend on how I am feeling.
Today's short one (yes, still counting my 1.5miles) brings me up to 51.81 miles out of 70.11 -
Ouch @shanaber, that sounds like a bad one. Heal quickly!1
-
Sorry been quiet. Been following my plan this week. And really enjoying it. Did another 13k run yesterday.
Today was a rest day so went for a gentle hike with the kids then played indoor netball (think basketball without the bouncing). Well something was too much because half way through the game my left calf started giving me issues. I sat out the 3rd quarter, and rolled and massaged it when I got home, but still sore.
I'll see how it is in the morning, but I'm absolutely willing to take a week off to be safe. I'll never forget tearing my right one 2 years ago!6 -
@shanaber Ouch! Glad nothing is broken, feel better soon!
Two days off. Took an extra rest day because it was chilly and also because I did lots of lifting on leg day. I finally got my 200 lb deadlift! This was a yearly goal in 2019, but then I ruptured my baker’s cyst and had to stop deadlifting for a while, made it a goal for 2020 and had to stop going to the gym because of Covid, then in 2021 I ended up not pushing my lifting because I wasn’t getting enough sleep due to caring for my mom and felt like I was courting injury lifting on no sleep, and also the max weight that would fit on my home bar was 180. So I just kept lifting lighter and lighter which is the opposite of the way it’s supposed to work! Got a proper set of weights for Christmas, decided to focus on lifting while I got my heart issues sorted, and finally made my goal! Next goal is 222 which will officially put me in the “advanced” category compared to other women of my age and weight. (200 is intermediate.)
Today, ran 5k and walked 5k on the Germantown nature area trails. I’m still sorting out my dosage of beta blockers. On these particular trails I don’t usually run very fast but I have had one heart episode there due to hills. So I decided better safe than sorry, and went with the one quarter dose, slightly less than last time since the pill broke unevenly. So today I took the smaller bit. Trying to see how small a dose I can take and still have it be effective. Well… this is clearly not an exact science, because “slightly less than a quarter” seems like still more meds than I need - heart rate topped out at 151 on my final sprint uphill, and most of the run was well under 138. That’s about 10-15 beats slower than normal for me for the level of effort. My legs were burning like crazy from lack of oxygen going up hills. In fact it felt more like the time I took a half dose than the time I took a quarter dose. It’s not timing of when I took it, since in all cases I am taking it on an empty stomach exactly four hours before my run (max effectiveness supposedly reached at 3 hrs and half-life is about 9.)
It wasn’t a bad run, in fact it was quite doable, it was just more heart rate suppression than I probably needed and would have been easier with a higher heart rate. Since the last time I did this run at this pace, pre-meds, I had an episode of tachycardia, it’s definitely an improvement, just not optimal. It remains to be seen if my body will eventually adjust to less oxygen.
I’m kind of weirded out that I’m taking maybe a fifth of the smallest pill size sold now and it seems like more than enough medication? What happens if I drop to one eighth, will it still work? I should do some reading and find out what clinical studies have found about the smallest clinically effective dose. As slow as my resting heart rate is, I am still dropping into the top end of 130’s at rest, so I definitely want to keep the dose tiny for that reason too!5 -
Oh no @shanaber! I hope you recover quickly.
And @Avidkeo sorry about your calf muscle acting up and @rheddmobile with your not-so-fun adventures with the medicine. Everyone feel better!1
