@Tramboman You are doing great to run on the treadmill when you dislike it so much. Way to push yourself.0

Not too bad. Thought I could probably do 15 miles today, but didn't think it would be the fastest 15 miles in 4 years 😁 Felt unusually good for some reason.8

@rheddmobile - I also read all the James Herriot books and still have them in a boxed set. I had forgotten his cracker dog reference but knew it from somewhere.
@kgirlhart - Great shoe porn!
@quilteryoyo - glad you are getting som 'wuns'! Pretty sure you will be back to your regular runs before you know it and probably just in time for some lovely spring running!
@marisap2010 - Great job keeping the streak alive before going to FL! Hope you get to enjoy some warmer weather there.
Hope everyone on the eastern US (and south too?) avoid another big storm and those in the UK are all safe from the winds and storm there.
Believe it or not we are supposed to have lows in the low 30's - a shocking temp for us! Hope it doesn't damage my plants, especially the tangerines and oranges!
Out for a run with the pup and was hoping to be able to run more. Tripped on the sidewalk as we neared the trail and had to have my husband come and get me. It is never good to lead with your face when you fall. Next stop - urgent care. Good news is no stitches required, no broken teeth (though sore) and my Tifosi running sunglasses didn't break but have a pretty good scratch. Oh and no broken bones! I have a large cut on my cheekbone from those sunglasses, a very sore and swollen, cut up lip, a skinned and bruised knee (my leggings were undamaged??) and an arm I can barely move. Guess I braced myself with it before I hit my face! Kind of feel like I was hit by a truck but feel lucky there is nothing seriously wrong.
Tomorrow was going to be a yoga day but we will see how it goes. Monday's run will depend on how I am feeling.
Today's short one (yes, still counting my 1.5miles) brings me up to 51.81 miles out of 70.11 -
Ouch @shanaber, that sounds like a bad one. Heal quickly!1

Sorry been quiet. Been following my plan this week. And really enjoying it. Did another 13k run yesterday.
Today was a rest day so went for a gentle hike with the kids then played indoor netball (think basketball without the bouncing). Well something was too much because half way through the game my left calf started giving me issues. I sat out the 3rd quarter, and rolled and massaged it when I got home, but still sore.
I'll see how it is in the morning, but I'm absolutely willing to take a week off to be safe. I'll never forget tearing my right one 2 years ago!6 -
@shanaber Ouch! Glad nothing is broken, feel better soon!
Two days off. Took an extra rest day because it was chilly and also because I did lots of lifting on leg day. I finally got my 200 lb deadlift! This was a yearly goal in 2019, but then I ruptured my baker’s cyst and had to stop deadlifting for a while, made it a goal for 2020 and had to stop going to the gym because of Covid, then in 2021 I ended up not pushing my lifting because I wasn’t getting enough sleep due to caring for my mom and felt like I was courting injury lifting on no sleep, and also the max weight that would fit on my home bar was 180. So I just kept lifting lighter and lighter which is the opposite of the way it’s supposed to work! Got a proper set of weights for Christmas, decided to focus on lifting while I got my heart issues sorted, and finally made my goal! Next goal is 222 which will officially put me in the “advanced” category compared to other women of my age and weight. (200 is intermediate.)
Today, ran 5k and walked 5k on the Germantown nature area trails. I’m still sorting out my dosage of beta blockers. On these particular trails I don’t usually run very fast but I have had one heart episode there due to hills. So I decided better safe than sorry, and went with the one quarter dose, slightly less than last time since the pill broke unevenly. So today I took the smaller bit. Trying to see how small a dose I can take and still have it be effective. Well… this is clearly not an exact science, because “slightly less than a quarter” seems like still more meds than I need - heart rate topped out at 151 on my final sprint uphill, and most of the run was well under 138. That’s about 10-15 beats slower than normal for me for the level of effort. My legs were burning like crazy from lack of oxygen going up hills. In fact it felt more like the time I took a half dose than the time I took a quarter dose. It’s not timing of when I took it, since in all cases I am taking it on an empty stomach exactly four hours before my run (max effectiveness supposedly reached at 3 hrs and half-life is about 9.)
It wasn’t a bad run, in fact it was quite doable, it was just more heart rate suppression than I probably needed and would have been easier with a higher heart rate. Since the last time I did this run at this pace, pre-meds, I had an episode of tachycardia, it’s definitely an improvement, just not optimal. It remains to be seen if my body will eventually adjust to less oxygen.
I’m kind of weirded out that I’m taking maybe a fifth of the smallest pill size sold now and it seems like more than enough medication? What happens if I drop to one eighth, will it still work? I should do some reading and find out what clinical studies have found about the smallest clinically effective dose. As slow as my resting heart rate is, I am still dropping into the top end of 130’s at rest, so I definitely want to keep the dose tiny for that reason too!5 -
Oh no @shanaber! I hope you recover quickly.
And @Avidkeo sorry about your calf muscle acting up and @rheddmobile with your not-so-fun adventures with the medicine. Everyone feel better!1 -
@shanaber Glad it wasn't worse. Take care of yourself.
@Avidkeo Definitely take it easy. I hope it heals quickly!
@rheddmobile I'm glad you were able to do the run without having an episode with your heart. I am sorry to hear that it is keeping your HR slower than you would like. I hope you are able to dial it in.2 -

Sunny, low 20s F, and a gusty wind from the south today. Heard more red winged blackbirds today and have started to see a lot more rabbit tracks. I think the boy rabbits are out looking for a little sumfin' sumfin'... It'll really be the start of spring when I smell my first skunk.
@shanaber Hope you recover quickly!5 -
Ouch @shanaber! That fall sounded painful 😣 Hope you heal quickly!
@Avidkeo sorry about your calf. But good for you on taking it easy after that.
@rheddmobile glad you got your run in and hope you get your dosage dialed in.0 -
@shanaber how awful. I run on the street because our sidewalks are so awful here with tree roots shifting them. I am sure you feel pretty broken today but hope something gentle works. Be careful with the teeth. There can be latent damage/cracks which show up in the coming weeks and months.
@rheddmobile I have another friend who is recovering from aneurysm surgery and ended up with random AFIB, Her Dr increased her dosage of beta blockers but to me that doesn't truly address her root problem. Interesting about your body (not just your legs!) not getting enough O2 when you are pushing by the drugs keep your hr down. Have you checked your O2 level at the top of a hill? would be curious.
@Scott6255 congratulations on a great long 15 miler. And best in 4 years?!!! WOW sounds like you are finally recovered from your slump.
Did 7 miles today. So I am at 94 out of 100 planned for the month. Unless we have "weather" I might even match my Jan mileage. I ran 5 then walked for 30 seconds and ran 2 more. Remembered why I had gone away from the racerback running bras as my back was really aching after the long run (for me). Also a bit disappointed that my shoes which do not have that many miles on them appear to be breaking down early.
@quilteryoyo you keep up with the group SO well. I can't follow just this one thread much less the added accountability thread. And even if you aren't running running you are getting some wuns and walks in daily so to me being active and doing what you can physically and mentally counts more than running mileage. Hope you get some good results from the testing last week. I don't recall my Dad having follow up to his AAA surgery but he probably just didn't tell me about it or I have forgotten.
@kgirlhart waiting to see how your long run went today with new shoes and pack! I think the humidity is creeping back up as it was a bit more of a struggle for me today than recently.

@Tramboman forgot to mention that yesterday was my first "skunk" route. I haven't seen any like @kgirlhart usually does but every once in a while I see them. I can see some of my annual plants starting some green shoots out but it will be spring for me once my Purple Martins return to my colony housing.4

You get Purple Martins. Capistrano gets swallows. Ohio gets buzzards...5 -

It’s still freezing here at night but we have already had the first sign of spring - two nights ago at sunset I saw a bat!5 -
Morning
Calf feels better but a few "pulls" when walking. I'm not risking it. Id rather take a whole week off than end up out for 4 months again. So today will be rest day. Tomorrow will be bike, and I'll see from there. It might be over kill but a week off won't hurt and I would rather that than the alternative.
I was looking through my old insta and found out that one of my pairs of shoes are a year old now. I think that might be the issue. I've got a new pair a week ago but still have the others in rotation. I'm going to have to ditch them. I've been getting knew niggles for a few months but have put off buying new shoes as long as I could. Times up lol.
Glad I've still got my stationery bike5 -
I am in the mountains and loving it today! Took a "little" hike that ended up taking a longer than I planned, but it turned out that my family had found things to occupy their time and didn't mind my being gone for hours. It was around 15km/900m elevation. I got to go up my "favorite" mountain from a new-for-me direction, and it was a windy, wintery challenge. I then went in a direction I haven't been before and got to see the sights from that side. Very nice. Ski lifts are closed near where we're staying due to wind, but it wasn't too bad for most of my adventure. It did blow me over a couple times, but I more blame ice under the snow for that. I only wore microspikes for part of the time, because on one side of the mountain, the snow was sticky - perfect for making a snowman or giant snowball, but not when the snowball is accumulating on the bottom of your foot. I got tired of stomping it off every couple steps. Some places the ice under the snow was really slick, and some places it was just crunchy/grippy. But it was all very pretty and my 3 layers kept me warm.
The one picture is where someone was apparently pushing a bike(WHY?) on the trail, and was struggling with staying upright due to the hidden ice. They didn't make it very far, as there were equally fresh return tracks.6 -

I wanted to run some place different today so I drove to a rails-to-trails and ran 10 miles. I waited until 10:30 to start. It had warmed up from 19F when I got up to 38F at 10:30 and the sun was shining brilliantly. After the run I texted a friend and she joined me for a 4 mile walk. She’s 75 years old so we didn’t set any speed records but it was great to have the company and to catch up with her.
Nice 15-miler @Scott6255!
Oh my goodness @shanaber. That sounds like you hit hard. I’m so sorry for your fall. I bet you are really sore today.
Hope your calf injury isn’t anything serious @Avidkeo. Glad you are being smart and letting it heal. As a great runner on this thread used to say – let it heal until it feels better and then give it another day.
Congrats on making your deadlift goal @rhedmobile!
What beauty @polskagirl01! Glad you stayed warm.
