Beccaboo's Lower Carb Challenge and My Daily Tasks for Long Term Success

I engage is cookies and candy too much and don't need any with my blood sugar problems.1
-
I actually only had a few eight ounce glasses of eggnog. Yes, it spiked my blood glucose, but it's so tasty.
I am back to clean eating, and my blood glucose tanked. I am recalibrating my diabetes meds to keep up with the clean eating.
I haven't been doing much as I do not feel up to it. Sis and I are still ill.
I've made some good meals, and took a stab at making a yam casserole. It wasn't hard, and it was quite tasty. Best of all, it didn't spike my bg!!
I made a delicious chicken pasta. Four thighs drizzled with olive oil, parsley, marjoram, rosemary. I added a bottle of Aldi's pasta sauce later, and as it was too sweet (added sugar woes!) I added a nice dose of dry white wine to take the sweet out.
It wasn't my best pasta sauce but it was damn good! Hunt's pasta sauce in the can is the best for tricking ppl into thinking you made the sauce from scratch! 😆
I always add spices anyway. Yummy.
Have to be better on taking my daily vitamins
I've been compliant on my meds.
Exercise to come soon.

I am so sorry you are both sick. I love yam casserole. I am not much into tomatoes of past sauce. If I used jar sauce I liked Prego with meat. And add spices.1

Finally starting to declutter again! I declutterer a portion of the den near my chair. I brought my broken phonograph downstairs to put to the curb, and will be carrying my new phonograph upstairs to set up.
I have to exercise my throw away and give away muscles.
I am compliant on meds. compliant on multivitamin for past two days.0 -
We are working on Xmas decorations. Cleaning, repairing, storing. And just threw some broken knickknacks away.0
-
I already put away the Christmas decorations along with my husband. We don't have that much to put away, as we don't put up a tree. We joke (not around our children) that it will take a grandchild to do that (none in sight).
The design of our house is called 'mountain contemporary', which does not mean that it is a contemporary design (oddly). I think that it refers to it having a few levels, in order to deal with the slope of mountains. We have an open concept on the main floor, of which our primary bedroom is off of it with 5 steps down. We have a lower level and an upper level. So, the main floor, half a level down in one direction, a full level down in another direction and then the upstairs. It sounds confusing, but really isn't. Anyway, the primary bedroom and two of the three bedrooms upstairs have lofts. (It is a fairly large house, but we close off the upstairs unless we have people visiting). Anyway, my husband decided to re-do the loft railings and the ladders. He sort-of jumped the gun on getting rid of the primary room's ladder and the loft, of course, is where we keep the Christmas decorations. We keep our suitcases and such on the loft floor (pushed against the wall, so you don't see it when standing in the room) and the Christmas decorations go in the attic (small, short door on one loft wall. Needless to say, we currently have a step ladder in our bedroom (sigh). In my husband's defense, we work on house tasks in the cold months (camping in the warm) and he has the ladder almost complete. He likes to do carpentry and hasn't for many years, but has retaken it up in retirement. He does good work, I must say. He has built some tables of different designs (night stand, end tables, etc) as well as frames for the various pictures that we have purchased when furnishing our home. He has mostly used reclaimed wood---from our land, as the previous owners left it. (He was happy). We still have a bit of a pile of wood, but it is dwindling--you can't see it from the road, so it's all good.
Another story from the foothills of the CO Rockies...0 -
I love that story! It's good your hubby is good at working with wood, even if the timing of it sometimes may not work so well.
Your house sounds lovely too!0 -
Doing what I can each day without overdoing it. Trying to get my energy back. I keep up fairly well on daily tasks even though I may skip a day here and there. It's the other tasks that haven't been done yet, but I am happy that I am improving overall.
I put a plastic bin with a handle on it and have my current meds, along with my daily vitamin and a pill called DHist which is really helping my itchy skin and breakouts from a probable histamine reaction. I also keep my orange glasses in it for night time, to cut the blue light, and my continuous glucose monitoring sensor. It helps to keep it in bed with me, but can easily be transported to the table when I am changing my bed. It helps me to take the pills first thing in the morning. I say whatever works, as I have ADHD and aging with ADHD is trying sometimes.
My BG is remaining pretty good these days, and I watch what I eat. I found some good lower carb snacks. Two Good vanilla yogurt is great and has 2 grams of carbs. I like it as it is barely sweet. I hate the artificial, too sweet, sweeteners, as it will spike my insulin release level which will ultimately increase my BG even if it doesn't do it right away. It also spikes my appetite.
The only exercise I'm getting right now is walking the house and going up and down stairs several times each day. It works for now as I am still getting my energy back.
I'm on B12 shots again, and bought some L Cartinine shots too. Dr Wahl's says l cartinine is good support for ppl with an immune disorder or MS.
Sis read where the diabetes drug, Metformin, can give you MS. Yup. As I took metformin for over a decade not knowing that it blocks B12 absorption via the oral route, I developed brain lesions, and plenty of them. The brain lesions can be caused by insufficient B12. So, it is unsurprising that they now say metformin can cause MS.
An app called Wysa has been helping me as I have weekly text meetings with my life coach. He is from India and quite good. It is helping me to still meet goals and learn to be kinder to myself. He helps me understand why certain things are and how to work around them. I was so surprised when he tried to make me realize that I don't have to be working all the time to feel good about myself. I was the perfect employee. I always overworked myself, and actually found pleasure in that. Now, I am learning it is okay to just be. Happiness comes from other things, like sitting in nature, doing reiki on me or my dogs, doing some art, etc. That I can "just be," and that's good. I came from workaholic parents who instilled in me a good work ethic. However, even my mom had periods of time where she enjoyed herself with her hiking group and visiting with her best friend. Dad was too busy, but he did make some time for me. I felt well cared for by my parents.
Enough said! 😆

I am also keeping up with everyday stuff but need to up my game.
I am doing fine with taking my pills right now.
I don't like yogurt and don't like the taste so can't handle ones that don't mask it some and can't handle Greek yogurt so I end up with Carbmaster yogurt. I would do better if I had a CGM as I am not going to stick myself constantly. I had to do it 5 times in one day and barely could use my hand after that it was so sore for a week. I don't use a lot of sweetener though.
It sounds like you are in a better place right now and I'm happy to hear that.

Thank u, Tish. I have a good doctor again which helps.
She gave me a sample of trulicity which she said is a lot tamer than the victoza I was on, plus it's a once a week shot. I got into the zone she wants within a day. It helped me with not eating last night, too. She wants to decrease my insulin in the long run as she said after a while, the insulin stops working well.
This all leads to diet! Doing well with lower carb again, and having more veggies in my diet.
Doing well taking meds and vitamins with my little carrying case on my bed.
Trying not to stress and just relax. Life coach tells me I have to do something twice a week which takes me away from my sis and the dogs--just me time. Plan to start walking outside again to get that break.0 -
I like the idea of the me time for you. We all need that.1
-
BG still in range today. Doc wants it from 120 to 180. Diligent with my food consumption. Planning to incorporate more legumes in my diet.1
-
I eat a few beans every day. 30gms1
-
Beans, beans, the musical fruit! 🤣
Love those beans.
I split my tresiba in half to take it twice a day per the doc, but forgot to take the other half last night. I woke up with my BG good anyway!
Today, we had a BLT and tonight it will be tuna salad and tomato over a bed of spinach. I'm sure something else will be eaten along the way, perhaps a stuffed baked potato, so my BG won't go too low.0 -
Becca. It sure is a balancing act!1
-
Becca, you are doing great!1
-
I've come off a lot of insulin with trulicity!
Still doing well taking meds and vitamins. Still eating well.
BG was 93 at midnight last night, so I ate leftovers if my pho noodle soup. I usually don't eat pho (or eat that late), but the restaurant has decreased the portion of the noodles, and I eat 1/2 a bowl. I still woke up in range at 161 even though I took no rapid insulin after eating.
Decluttering a min of 10 minutes most days. Sure wish I had more energy.0 -
Excellent. I have been spending a lot of time outside. Still eating well though and getting some exercise in.0
-
Great!
Compliant on almost everything now. Decluttering gets paused on days I'm doing dishes and laundry. I really need to shampoo some rugs someday soon.
The good news is that I am starting to go out again to have some fun in spaces that aren't crowded with people.
Petey is better.
Daisy is better. She started coughing bright red blood the other morning. I took her off her NSAID and started her on sucralfate. That's what the vet did the last time this happened. It seems to be resolving well.0 -
So glad Petey and Daisy are okay. Also glad you are getting out some. We go out shopping but will always wear a mask.1
-
Had a funny situation with my blood glucose monitor. It gave me an improper lower reading. I was eating gluten free carbs just to bring it up! Yum, yum. Now, i am wearing a new sensor and am back to reality. 🤣😳0
-
LOL. I would love to have one.1
-
I don't think it's fair that the ppl who need it most can't get one. 😢 They have to wait until one is a full blown diabetic and on insulin therapy to get one.
I've been in range 85 percent of the time this last week, up from 30 percent of the time.1 -
It is stupid not to allow people to have them. They can actually cost less in the long run. Prevention is the way to go.1
-
It would cost less in so many ways!
Plus, a sensor for my dog is only $40. They charge medicare $200 for 2 sensors, and you must get a reader; I forget if medicare was charged $200 or $400 for the reader, whereas, Petey's "reader" is a free phone app!
If they ever let medicare negotiate prices, some things would be better.
I've been without an appetite lately, but the good news is Petey is finally better!
Trulicity is having a shortage too. Went to pick up my meds at CVS and when I inquired about the trulicity, ..."well, we just put the order in yesterday, and they haven't delivered it to us today." It's been a week, and I need to drive out there again, probably to be told they didn't get any.
My insulin pens are cheaper, a month's worth is $35 instead of $109, but they raised my acrabose from $15 to $140. Thankfully, I have enough expenses to itemize on my taxes.
By the way, the $109 would get me 3 months of insulin instead of one month before. It's a numbers game.
I am back with the acrabose now instead of weaning myself off it due to the trulicity shortage. I believe it is due to rich ppl following a popular trend by getting a continuous glucose monitor and a trulicity prescription through an online doctor when they don't technically need it.
My goals are to do what I can day by day. Things are getting better little by little. I am turning to art therapy more and leading a more balanced life.
I still need a lot of rest, and am doing just that! 😆0 -
Maybe I need to pretend to be a dog and get a sensor. LOL. So glad to hear about Petey!

I’m sorry you’re having so much difficulty getting needed meds; test is so concerning for individuals as well as the broader picture (having shortages at all, other meds too). Glad your fuzzy is better!0
-
Thank you very much!
Spa dog day was today, but petey didn't get to go out. He had another seizure, but not as large as before, plus we were changing his insulin regime under the vet's instructions. That didn't go too well--he went to high.
Petey was feeling a little better later so I trimmed his cute little poodle puff. I will trim a bit off him each day, and bathe him with a warm washcloth.
Daisy, Lou, and Marty look and smell great! We gave the groomer zymox shampoo to use instead of her shampoo. The groomer said to give her a call when petey is better, and she'd fit him in which I thought was nice as her schedule is crazy!
I've been going low on my BG even though I've halved all my meds including the insulin. My pal suggested it may be the cbd oil. I did find a report online (nih) that reported on a man who told his doc he was coming off his insulin and going on cbd. They expected his A1C to go up, but it didn't. It even improved some. The report said it may have been the cbd, but there's no definitive proof. However, they did acknowledge that cbd provides both micro and macro improvements in vascular structures due to its anti-inflammatory effects.
Now, I've been on lower carb and cbd for years now. My friend suggested I try BlueGrass Hemp made in KY. I did so, and that's the only thing that's changed! It also appears to help my arthritis pain! I guess it is a quality CBD! I only take it once a day!
I may have to get some BlueGrass Hemp for Pete! Haha!

Wow! You can tell if I’m using my phone to reply--typos. Help me out, do you buy cbd oil and topically apply it where it hurts? Asking for a friend..ha, ha. My husband has tried cbd for pain, unsuccessfully.0

The CBD Oil sounds great.0
