@shanaber That article was interesting. I'm going to have to see how my training plans stack up proportion wise. I usually just pick a plan and go, so I'm not sure how the workouts vs easy runs break down. It would be interesting to see since so many of these plans are written by people who also train elite runners. I do my easy runs around the projected pace the 80/20 calculator said for zone 2 so that's good I guess. Well, usually. I need to get back to that.2

March total: 44.4/75 Miles
3/2: 2.1 miles
3/4: 4.2 miles
3/6: 3.1 miles
3/7: 2 miles
3/9: 5 miles
3/11: 3.1 miles
3/12: 4 miles, 2.2 miles
3/14: 3.1 miles
3/16: 3.1 miles
3/17: 4.2 miles
3/18: 3.1 miles
3/19: 5.2 miles
Went out a little fast this morning then it took a few miles to rein it in. I was feeling good and got caught up. My plan is inching back up in mileage so I need to redouble my efforts to slow down and do easy runs easy.5 -
@polskagirl01 what you are doing is so much more important than sticking to a training plan!
Faceboom reminded me this morning that it's two years ago today that we ran our simultaneous Ran It Anyway HMs. Not sure if it feels like yesterday, or a million years ago...
I agree on Garmins being pretty bad at reporting on time asleep, mine often says I was sleeping while I was working just because I was sitting still at a desk. My Fitbit was really spot on where sleep was concerned, but pretty bad at everything else, lol.
Less than a month now until my next race, so the nerves are starting to appear. It's another mountain HM with plenty of elevation, including the lowest part being around km 17 and then it's pretty much uphill until the end. There will be muttering and swearing, I'm sure.
Then I have another HM on May 1st, trail but flat, followed by a 17k mountain race at the end of the month. There's a road 10k that I was signed up for in 2020 that will now be in the middle of May, no idea whether I'll go or not. Road races just bore me now, and it would make for a very tough month.
I'm trying to decide what to plan for after the summer. I'll probably go back to both the mountain races I did last year. We're waiting to see if a very popular local mountain race starts again this autumn. It's on the range right behind us, the race I ran in January was on some of the same trails. There is a short route of around 17km with a lot of elevation, and there's what they call a marathon though it's a bit longer, with a LOT of elevation. Cutoff time for it is 8 and a half hours. The website is all in Spanish but here it is in case anyone wants to come on an adventure with me 😂 maratonjarapalos
I've been saying that I'll do the short one this year, look for races in the 30k field for 2023, and aim for that not quite marathon for 2024. That's my sensible brain talking.
But my heart is impatient and those mountains call to me like mermaids every time I look that way...

Yes, this exactly. What an unimaginable thing to be dealing with the realities of war.

I managed to survive a half marathon this morning! It was not easy, but it's done. My back held up fine. Everything else was struggling a bit. The last time I ran 13.1 was Jan 30 and the number of miles I've run since then has been shockingly low. And I felt every bit of that lack of consistent running, and moreso that absence of any real long runs. But the weather held out fairly well, a few sprinkles and temps in the 40s. I took my jacket off pretty early, but then put it back on again as the temps dropped the last few miles. This course (Syracuse Half Marathon) is not my favorite. There are quite a few hills and a kind of cruel part at the end where you are within a block of the finish but they send you way past in an out and back. The good part is the start/finish is right outside the convention center and you can stay inside pre and post. They have pancakes and bacon after too. Overall, I feel good about finishing and running the whole thing. This should be a good kick in the pants to get back on track with regular running as well - along with improving weather making that a lot more tolerable.8 -
Excellent job on your HM @katharmonic!
I did 12 miles this afternoon. It was a Hot 75F and 18mph wind, which made it a tough go. But good to get outside.

@eleanorhawkins It sounds like you have some great races coming up. I bet you will enjoy everyone, even though the nerves are getting to you already. Like you description of how the mountains are calling to you.
Great job on your HM @katharmonic ! It would be hard to see the finish line and then have to run on by. I think that would be really hard for a first time HM runner, if they didn't realize they weren't done yet.
Nice long run @Scott6255 !2 -

3-20 - 2.25 mile wun on the driveway
39.80 miles/60 mile goal
Yesterday and today I didn't really feel like running, but wanted to do more than walk, so I did driveway wuns. I almost called today's wun a run since the overall pace was 4.4 mph and the middle part, where I did run part of it, was at a 4.5 mph pace. But, since I didn't separate the two, I'll just call it a wun and be done. LOL Whatever it is called, it is 2.25 miles in the books and I got some fresh air and sunshine.6 -
@shanaber I read that same article the other day. I am working my way through the 80/20 book, and I am going to start a 5K plan using 80/20 tomorrow to get in the groove of the training.
@quilteryoyo, I think I am going to do the level 2 plan. Also, enjoy your new watch. Hopefully, it will learn your sleep pattern soon. I also have a hard time sleeping when I have a change in schedule.
@polskagirl01, That is great that you are able to help some of the refugees. You’re awesome.
@eleanorhawkins, You’re such a badass with all of those mountain races!
Awesome job on your half, @katharmonic!
I wish I could love treadmills, @Scott6255!
Yesterday I ran the Cherry Blossom Road Race Quarter Marathon as part of our city’s week long Cherry Blossom Festival. There were about 300 people running the 5K and 106 in the Quarter Marathon. I ended up finishing 49/106. My pace again remained pretty consistent as my last two races. The course had several looooong hills, but overall it was a nice course, partially through a residential neighborhood, and the remainder on some rural roads. All quarter marathon finishers received a medal.
I’ll start on my 80/20 5K plan tomorrow. I’m excited to try something new to mix up my training.6 -
Great job on your Quarter Marathon race @marisap2010! Those looking hills are killers.0

Awesome racing @katharmonic and @marisap2010!
@Scott6255 - 12 miles in wind and heat = fantastic run! Wow! Glad you were able to get outside and get it done!
@eleanorhawkins - so many races, so little time 😂 I am so impressed with your trail runs! I have too say the little bit I did when we were in Zion made me want to do more! There just isn't much around me that are very interesting.
I got out yesterday and today after a couple of days off due to life requirements. 4.9 miles on Saturday and 6.96 today. I will get out for at least a walk tomorrow if not another run because it is our last day of nice weather this week. It will be close to 90F the rest of the week if not over. I. am at just over 51 miles for the month, so a bit behind. Hoping I can still make the 100 mile club but it will depend on how much I can get out with the heat. I also see the ortho on Tuesday afternoon about my arm. Not sure what I expect... likely will be sent for another MRI I am guessing.6 -
March goal: 60 km
03/01: 5.3 km along the Danube shore
03/03: 7.7. km around the old town

03/08: 6.7 km - rainy Texas, so running on a treadmill
03/21: 5.5 km - hello Dresden!
Total: 32.8 km
I am amidst of tree weeks of work travel across Europe and the US - and try to fit skiing, walking, hiking, and running in different time zones. Back on the run today in beautiful Dresden!

@marisap2010 @shanaber @quilteryoyo thank you, though my family prefer to say I'm a lunatic LOL. Not really badass, the badasses are the ones at the front racing them, I'm just at the back swearing a lot, clinging on for dear life and enjoying the views along the way :-)
It is so good to see everyone racing again, well done to all!5 -
@katharmonic Hills and a cruel finish! Sounds like a tough HM, especially when you haven’t done a lot of long running recently. Awesome work!!
@eleanorhawkins I don’t know that I agree with your definition there. It’s definitely badass to do something hard even if you’re not dominating at the front of the pack! Y’all are just different kinds of badass!
@marisap2010 Congrats on your race! I would love to hear how the 80/20 plan works out for you.
@quilteryoyo Good job keeping up the consistency through your motivation dry spell!

@Scott6255 Wow that’s windy. We had some pretty strong winds also on Saturday. At one point, I turned a corner into a headwind and it was still strong enough that it pushed my posture up and I kind of did a step almost in place before adjusting to it. Resistance training!2
-
Great job on your QM @marisap2010 ! I hope you like the 80/20 5K training plan.
Nice running @shanaber . Today and tomorrow are supposed to be nice here, but then have rain and cooler temps toward the end of the week. Hope you get answers from the ortho.
Nice that you are getting exercise in while traveling @Aine8046 ! Beautiful picture.

I haven't kept up with the thread over the weekend. But I did get a little running in to keep my streak. Friday I ran before we headed out and had a great run with perfect weather. Saturday morning in Austin was just beautiful. I ran 1.5 miles and really enjoyed it. I even saw my first bluebonnet of the season. We are about 200 miles north of Austin so they always get the spring flowers before we do. The redbud trees were blooming too and I also saw a few dogwoods. I didn't really see a lot of bluebonnets yet, but they are starting to pop up.
Sunday I didn't get to run before we left. We did go for a walk with our daughter. There is a really nice trail by her apartment complex and she wanted to show it to us. It was awesome. We walked 2.25 miles. I would really like to run there sometime. I was glad she has such a nice area to get outdoors. The RTE Streaker Challenge does count walking or running, so I almost let the walk count for my streak. But after we got home we took the dogs for a short walk and I decided to go ahead and run a mile to keep my streak a true run streak. We put the dogs in the house and my husband ran about half the way with me. So I managed to keep the streak alive.
The forecast for today was supposed to be rain and thunderstorms starting around 9 am and lasting until 5 or so. When I got up it hadn't really started raining yet so I went out for a quick run and ended up with 1.25 miles. My weather app and the radar didn't show rain yet, but it was already kind of drizzly. So far we haven't gotten any storms and I think the rain chances have decreased, but it is still damp and drizzling out there. I hope we do get some rain in this area. There are some pretty serious fires south of us and they definitely need it.
I haven't read through the thread yet. I thought I would get this posted and then go back and try to get caught up.

Congratulations on your half marathon @katharmonic! Even though you were on the struggle bus, you didn’t let it run over you!
Love your new Garmin @quilteryoyo! Glad for the report on @polskagirl01 and good to see her check in.
@kgirlhart you are doing great on your streak!
Great job on your quarter marathon @marisap2010! I love that medal and ribbon!

Ran after work but made sure to get out before the inevitable tornado watches this evening. It's warm and we already have winds about 20mph and some rain. I managed to avoid the rain and even got a couple minutes of nice tailwind! And concentrated on slowing down. It's easier to slow down when I run in the afternoon because my legs just feel more tired after work. In the morning I am fresh and ready to go!4 -
I started the 80/20 5K plan tonight with a "Foundation Run" consisting of 5 min in Zone 1, 30 min in Zone 2, 5 min in Zone 1. It feels so slow, but I am going to trust the process. I ended up with 2.42 miles. Hubby walked the route behind me while I ran.
I'm way behind on miles for the month. I'm only at 30.43 miles, so I certainly won't make it to 75, but I'm going to change my focus to following this plan as closely as possible.6 -
Thank you @scott6255, @quilteryoyo, @marisap2010, @shanaber, @martaindale and @Teresa502 and those who liked and hugged.
@marisap2010 great job on your quarter marathon! How are the cherry blossoms?
@eleanorhawkins you have quite a schedule coming up with your races. You sound ready for all these challenges! I think you really want to sign up for that long mountain race. I hope it happens this year.
@shanaber 90 degrees already, yikes. Good luck with the ortho appointment.
@kgirlhart great job keeping up your streak. I ran in Austin in the spring a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

I agreed to meet a friend for an "easy" run before my strength training class tonight. It was 50 degrees out, which is the nicest it will be all week, so I wanted to get a run outside instead of the treadmill at the gym. I wasn't feeling too sore from the HM yesterday, or so I thought. We did 1.6 miles out and I realized I was wiped out, breathing really hard, and my legs were complaining fiercely. But we had to get back so I could make it to class on time so I couldn't just walk back. My friend kept me going with her encouragement and chatter, but I felt like I was reliving the end of the race yesterday, lol. It was rough. But we made it.
