WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the February 2022 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10855281/february-2022-monthly-running-challenge/p1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until March 1, 2022 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

Note: we also have a group on Strava and Facebook.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso

“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." - John Bingham
You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃
'sleasy' - Slow and Easy
'sneasy' - Slow Not Easy
'scrappy' - mix of Slow and Crappy
'wun' - mix of Walking and Running
'wog' - mix of Walking and Jogging

Hey all!
My goal this month: climb our local mountain!
Info in the spoiler
Mount Taranaki is the second highest mountain in the North Island of New Zealand. Its summit is 8261 feet above sea level. It dominates the local skyline and has always captivated me. I haven't always lived near it, but now anytime I see it I feel home.
Climbing it has always been a dream, and hopefully, weather dependant, I'll be climbing in just under 2 weeks!
For running, follow the coaching plan, and not get injured again.10 -
Thanks for setting us up again @Scott6255!!
I am going to be optimistic and go for 100 miles in March. Not sure what will happen with my arm but hopefully no matter what I will be able to at least get out for a good long walk, if not a run. Definitely hoping it will be more running though than walking.6 -

Thanks Scott! I’m going to make a stretch goal of 125 miles out there this month 😎😳😎5
-
Thanks Scott! Having ended up with over 160km last month unintentionally I'm going to set myself a conservative goal of 120km for this month.
My next race is another mountain one on April 16th and the next 6 weeks should include a lot of specific training for it, which means lots of power-hiking/scrambling/climbing/crawling on very technical goat tracks 😅

Thank you Scott! I have several trips abroad this month and plan to ski at least two weekends, so not sure how much I can run. Let's put 60k and see how it goes

March goal: 60 km
03/01: 5.3 km along the Danube shore
Total: 5.3 km

Thanks Scott for setting us up for March
I am not setting a goal for this month other than to do better than last month. Which should not be hard!
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
03/01/22 :::: 3.0 :::: 3.0
Starting off on track with 3 treadmill miles this morning.

March Goal: 100 Miles
1/1: 5.15 miles
5.15/100 miles completed for March
I started March off with a fabulous 5 mile run. I got started a little bit later than I really need to on a workday, but that ended up being worth it since the sky was starting to get light and it makes me happy to run in the daylight. I enjoy seeing the stars and moon, but sunrise is really nice too. It was kind of chilly starting out, but I was dressed just right. I am doing the Fit Project, which is part of the Run the Edge group. Each month they have different playlist on Spotify and today I listened to Bagpipes. I was a little worried that it would be annoying, but I actually enjoyed it.
When I ran past the courthouse I saw that they had it lit up in blue and yellow for the Ukraine so I said a little prayer for the people of the Ukraine and for @polskagirl01 and her husband in their humanitarian efforts to help at the border.
I start out running west and when I turned back east is when I noticed the sky was starting to get light. I was keeping an eye out for skunks and never saw any, but as I passed the park I saw a couple of deer 🦌 crossing the road. They stopped to look at me and I stopped to look at them, but they bounded away before I could get my phone to take a picture. It's probably just as well since my deer pictures never turn out good. They sure were beautiful.
It was light enough out when I left the park that I turned off my noxgear. And I even took a picture of the sunrise. The pictures never really do justice to how pretty it was.
I started out February not running because I was sick with Covid. It was so nice to start March out with a really good run. 😍🏃♀️

@kgirlhart and I are Tx twins today, 5.01 miles out of 150 strrreeetttch goal for the month. I already miss Tramboman
It really was a gorgeous morning to run and I watched the sunrise the entire time.5 -
Morning all.
Taking a rest day today. I've run 3 days in a row since my calf injury and don't want to risk anything. It feels fine, but I'm learning from my past and not pushing.
Working evening shift tonight, then day off tomorrow so will be a good day for a run tomorrow anyway.6 -
3/1: 3.56 km
March Total: 3.56 km
March Goal: 125 km
@kgirlhart and @Aine8046 - What beautiful pictures.1 -
@Avidkeo Looking forward to seeing your report on the mountain climb. You are going to do great. It's a beautiful mountain from afar. I'm glad your calf is feeling good. Taking the day off is probably a good idea. Hope you have another great run tomorrow.
Another beautiful place to run @Aine8046 !
@kgirlhart Great run to start out the month! Beautiful sunrise.
I only ran 6 times last month and wun 4. I did walk at least 1 mile every day. I'm not really sure what I will be able to do this month, so I think I will make my goal to walk and/or run a total of 60 miles. That will be 10 miles more than February.
I didn't sleep very well last night and worked in the baby room at daycare from 7:45 - 4:45 today. So, I was tired when I got home. It was really nice out, so I walked one mile doing driveway laps.
8 -
7 miles tonight. It was a 'sleasy' run in part as an homage to @Tramboman, and in part as a recovery from Sunday's long run.
And speaking of that...it seems as I am the lone (or at least one of the very few) males left on this forum now. Not sure what that trend signifies, but it feels a bit lonely.
6 -
Thanks for setting this up Scott. My goal for March is simply to be better than February. Bit of a shaky start missing the 1st but I did run today!3
-
@Scott6255 I'm not sure why all of the males are leaving us either, but I, for one, am glad you are are here. Maybe we should recruit some others so you won't feel so lonely. I love that you did a 7 mile sleasy run to honor @Tramboman.1
