Sorry I haven’t been on in a few days.
I was on the road for work this week, so I had several long days. I did get in 5 of the 80/20 runs this week, plus a day of cross training. Three of the runs were shorter and were between zones 1 and 2. One run had hill repeats. Today was 6 miles total, with warmup and cool down in zone 1 and the rest in zone 2. It didn’t feel like I had run 6 miles since it was slow, which is a big part of it, going further without feeling as tired. We’ll see how the next 8 weeks of this plan go.

It was 29F with winds of 15-17 mph this morning at the start of the marathon. Thankfully, I volunteered to shuttle runners from the parking area to the start line so I was in the warmth of my car until the race started. Unfortunately, it was still the same weather when I finished my shuttle duties and was outside. Talking with the other volunteers and cheering on the runners was fun though. The course is on the Virginia Creeper Trail (all but the first 2 miles) and is a couple of out and backs. Runners pass the start/finish area at miles 2, 9, 18, and 25 so it was a busy area. The winner finished in 2:55. The first female finished at 3:15. Amazing to me. My friend did much better this year. Last year she got dehydrated and ended up in the back of an ambulance getting fluids. I ran with her on the last 7 miles which warmed me up. I think there were three runners still on the course when I left but there were enough volunteers still around to cover everything.

I love your margarita coping mechanism @katharmonic! Great idea!

Hope you enjoy your girls day out in Ft. Worth @kgirlhart.

Great job getting your workouts in while working on the road @marisap2010.

    53.30 miles/60 mile goal

Sunday is my "rest" day most weeks. In keeping with that, I walked one mile on the treadmill after church and before lunch today. I had thought about walking 1.7 miles to get to an even 54, but I just didn't have it in me today. Garmin said that I overexerted myself yesterday and had poor quality sleep, so I might be tired today. I thought it didn't know what it was talking about, as I felt fine this morning. But, I started falling asleep in Sunday School. I just couldn't keep my eyes open. So, maybe Garmin was smarter than me. Anyway, I spent the afternoon on the couch watching TV, with a short nap. I think I needed that in more ways than one.

hahaha @katharmonic ! It's cold here too. Very windy which makes it even worse. I like your attitude though. Maybe we should all join you for some margaritas.

@marisap2010 Sounds like you are doing great with the 80/20 plan. And, I am always amazed that people actually get their runs in when they are traveling for work, or pleasure. I am just not good at that.

@Teresa502 I thought about you this morning. I'm glad at least part of the time you were able to be inside your car. I would have probably taken some warm up breaks through out the morning too. Sounds like you did have fun though and glad your friend did much better this year and that you ran the last 7 miles with her. I know what a help that is! Those first place finish times are amazing to me too.

Another chilly morning. I met a friend at 5 am for 5 miles. It was 29F but no wind which was really nice after the last couple of days. So happy they have reopened the gyms at work. When I run with my friends in the town where I work I don't have time to go back home and get a shower so having a facility across the parking lot from my office is very handy. I'm sure my co-workers appreciate it also.

@quilteryoyo – great job getting your mile walk yesterday when you could have easily skipped it and gone straight to the couch! I love Sunday afternoon naps!

I actually was able to get in a long run today and it was lovely. Headed to the forest via back roads. Saw some of the swans, though all in separate locations vs together in a group.

    So beautiful! <3

I haven't been posting much but have been following along and hitting Like/Hug as appropriate. It was super hot here (90F) but I tried to get in a few runs. Then it dropped into the low 80's and yesterday if barely hit 70! I am running what I can and walking when the running makes my arm hurt. I found yesterday that the 'speed walking' doesn't hurt my arm because there is less bounce. It is really hard on my glutes though(?) It was gorgeous out yesterday which really made me want to run more but I tried to 'listen to my body'. I enjoyed seeing so many birds; pelicans, egrets, geese and ducks, killdeer, hummingbirds and swallows. An osprey flew right over us as did a sharp-shinned hawk. I even saw a CA kestrel which was a treat as I haven't seen them in this area for a while now. The river and ponds I run near are a protected bird preserve and there are lots of nesting birds at this time of the year. There are nesting boxes all over and most seem to be occupied. I am looking forward to seeing all the baby birds in a few weeks!

    ky2i9ueyc98s.jpeg
On the spit of land across from the pelicans there is a black-crowned night heron (white spot near the upper dirt edge) and all kinds of geese and ducks that are difficult to see. The other whitish spots are the nesting boxes

    oi38gcn8vizu.jpeg

Have to include a picture of Hobbes the Vizsla looking very hot from a run earlier in the week
    22krn23lmt6w.jpeg

I saw the ortho last week too. He believes I have completely torn the long head biceps tendon. I am waiting to get a MRI scheduled to confirm it and then will go back to hear what the fix is. Most likely arthroscopic surgery to reattach it. In the meantime I am not to do any housework, cooking, cleaning, yard work, etc. (asked if I needed a note 😂) but I am allowed to walk or run as long as I stop if it hurts. He is a sports ortho and understands the desire to workout and to run.

I don't think I will make the 100 mile club again this month but will hopefully get a couple more outings in before the end of the month. It is pouring rain today with thunder and lightening. Yay! because we need the rain so badly but I am not going to go out for a run in it. I suspect agility class will also be canceled but even if it isn't I am not sure Hobbes or I need to take a chance running on wet slippery grass.

    119.27/100 miles completed for March

I didn't post yesterday, but I did run 4 miles before I went to Ft. Worth. Ot was perfect running weather and I had a great run. It was also a nice day for a drive. Bass Hall in Ft. Worth is about 2 hours away and I rode with 3 of my sisters. We met our Mom and oldest sister there. It was a great time. We always have a lot of fun when we get together.

I took today as a vacation day and so I slept in a bit before running. I had decided that I wouldn't try to run long yesterday and so I ran 10 miles today. It was really nice again but warmer than yesterday. Yesterday it was 56°F with a light wind. Today it was 61°F at the start and 71°F by the end. There was still a light wind so it wasn't too bad. And I am over the cold weather so I really didn't mind. I did get kind if thirsty though and about halfway through the run I realized that I hadn't rinsed my bottle out well and it tasted soapy. For a lot of the run I felt like I could run forever. I was ready to be done by the end though because it was getting warm. My husband took the afternoon off so after lunch we took the dogs up to the park for a short walk. The path there is 1K and at 12 and 14 that is really about all the walk they can handle. They seemed to really enjoy it though.

Love all the birds @shanaber. I hate to hear about the arm.

Hahahah @Teresa502 . They probably are. I don't have showers available in town either, so, if I play tennis before work, I always take a bag with a wash cloth, etc so I can at least wash off and change clothes before heading into the room with the kids. They have no filter, so I'm sure I would hear it if they thought I "smelled."

@SummerSkier Is getting another horse to care for a possibility? I hope you can find some friends to play tennis with. It's hard when your circle doesn't include that. I found mine by joining a league for a couple of years. Even though you don't really want to do that, it is a way to connect with other tennis players that are at, or near, your level of play.

@shanaber I'm sorry that running hurts your arm. Sounds like speed walking is a good alternative until you get it repaired. Love your pictures and Hobbes is hot, but adorable. Good idea to skip a slippery agility class, if they have it.

@kgirlhart Sounds like a great time with your family. So, you are one of 5 girls? Any boys in your family? Sounds like you had a great run yesterday and a nice walk with the dogs and hubby. I hope your return to work today goes well too.

@katharmonic Congratulations on your bench press PR!

Great mileage this month @SummerSkier. Hope you can find some fellow tennis enthusiasts.

Gorgeous photo @Aine8046 – welcome home!

I can’t even imagine running in the 90F weather yet @shanaber. It’s been so chilly here the last few days. What a treat to get to see all those birds and I love Hobbes! I hope you can get your MRI scheduled soon so that you can get your shoulder all fixed up.

@kgirlhart – nice running! Glad you had fun in Ft. Worth.

Congrats on your weight lifting PR @katharmonic!

Thanks! The next couple of days are supposed to be really nice. Of course I have to work all day in the office where I'm in a cubicle farm and can't see outside both tomorrow and Thursday and have a work-related dinner on Thursday evening. But the paycheck keeps coming so I will stop complaining! Spring fever is a real thing!

    124.42/100 miles completed for March

I ran 5 miles this morning. The weather would have been perfect if it wasn't for the 20 mph winds. All in all it was a nice run, but I was feeling kind of tired. Only 2 more days of "streaking". I don't know how @alphahowls does it.

We did have a good time in Ft. Worth @scott6255, @Teresa502 and @quilteryoyo and yes, I am one of 5 girls and no boys. My dad was outnumbered, but he ended up with 9 grandsons and only 2 granddaughters.
