Lots of steps today! Worked out at the gym and then spent the morning at a fall festival. It was pretty small, but we enjoyed just walkikg around and looking at all the vendors. It was only 65F degrees today, and there was a definite chill in the air.4 -

We are now just past the peak of colours, frost every night, and it feels wonderful. I took quite a hike today - there has been some work done on the smaller power line along our gravel road, and they have cut a narrow swath of trees to get it all done. It goes up to the top of a cliff that offers an amazing view of the nearest lake, so it was fun to follow it along. It is beautiful, but sadly a bit noisy because of the nearby roads. I am used to having silent walks, but this one was accompanied by the many cars out during a beautiful holiday weekend. Peh.AND NOW!!
I am thinking of a WA Team Challenge for November-December. How about working on a goal that enhances our self-definition by January 1st? If you want to say "I am a person who walks for an hour a day" or "I do at least 10 pushups a day" or "I get at least 15 minutes of vigorous exercise per day" or "I only drink alcohol 2 days per week", "I eat 30 grams of fibre daily", or whatever it is you'd like to do. We have November and December to get to that point. We need a specific plan with weekly goals. Then, on January 1, we can say that we are that person. And keep it up! I know it helped me enormously to have goals other than an amount of weight to lose as I headed for a more healthy me.
What do you want to be able to do by January 1st? I know we have people working on running more, sleeping better, doing more push-ups, being able to walk a mile a day, regular exercise, etc. etc. etc. Let's take the next couple of weeks to figure out what our goals are and how we will be able to define that one thing by January 1. We would each need a plan, and I'll figure out a way to track everyone's progress.
If you have a different idea of a useful and doable challenge for the last weeks of 2022, let's hear it! This is just the beginning of a discussion we can work on for the rest of October and then get started for November. Let's make is measurable, clear, and sustainable, but not necessarily weight-oriented (although it can be for some people!).5 -
LAST CALL!
Final weigh-in due for this week - @AshenMoon - are you there? Hope you're ok! Report in if you can. Thanks!1 -
So, I was feeling overly confident and bought a tub of choc.ice cream for my dad who, poor thing, had his upper teeth bridge fall out. Nope. I can not have a whole tub of that in the house. It's gone now. I'm inclined to buy a tub because it's cheaper that way but I'll have to bite the bullet and, if buying for him, only buy one portion from the special ice cream shop. In the meantime, pudding and fruity yogurt are usually pretty safe from me.

@jugar I love the idea of a team challenge for those 2 months! I like the idea you suggested, although I would have to think about what my goal would be. I know that historically for me, November and December are the months where I end up gaining weight, not tracking, and "falling off the wagon" with the holidays which tend to be the whole month and not a day or two.1

Happy Sunday, Gang,
My Sunday weigh-in today is -
PW - 184.9
CW - 186.1
I could see from my daily weigh-ins this week that I would be recording a gain today - I'm sorry about that, team!
However, I have to put it down to muscle in my defense because I have been doing my beloved Caroline Girvan's more regularly. I'm just hoping that my body composition settles down so that I can start losing again - however slowly.
And I love your idea, Liselyn @jugar about finding a goal to aim for between now and January 1st. Mine is "I'M A PERSON WHO WALKS A MILE EVERY DAY". I am having so much trouble walking regularly again, so this will definitely help me.4 -

I love that idea, @jugar!! I read a book that always said thats how you should phrase it. I am a person who..... I am holding on to my September motivation, even though I started the month in red. Today, I checked on scale and it is looking good! I just need to work on my workouts!!!!5
-
@jugar I love the end of year plan and goals! I will definitely be thinking of ideas.3
-
Well done team ❤️
@jugar
I love the idea of the challenge!
Yes, I have 3 goals!
1* to drink alcohol on Fridays ONLY!
2* to log my meals every meal, every day!
3* to practise strength training (dumbells, body weight exercises) 4 times a week 😁
Starting tomorrow 😉
Have a lovely Sunday all 🥰

I like the enthusiasm about our ending 2022 challenge. I think we can make it fun and encouraging enough to stick with it. I'll start some kind of a chart so we can keep track and keep after each other. Keep the ideas coming!
As usual, @YinxFed has gotten the week of to its start - with more muscles! That's ok if they did not lead to a loss of weight, it's just great that you are cranking out the workouts and feeling strong. And you are now a person who walks a mile a day! Impressive! Be sure to have bad weather contingency equivalents just in case
So that I don't forget, here is the rest-of-Sunday and the Monday list:
@Rachelw124
@CarolAnnM2
@MoonlitMuse
Let's see if we can paint the week green. We squeaked out a 3rd place finish for last week but only lost 1.7 pounds. I know we can do more than that! Starting with a perfect Monday? Yep.4 -
Week 1 exercise for you @ashleycarole86
If it is too much to do a report for this week with your travel and all, it's no worries to do a 2-week version later. We'll survive!

Well, I over ate at the holiday meal but it was within reason and there was lots of physical activity before, getting my mom's house ready for winter and there will be even more tomorrow as we will be finishing off a few more of our Reno's and getting yard work checked off the list. It was one meal and I won't allow it to be more than a blip.
I like the idea of the challenge, I want to be someone who intentionally exercises regularly, I just haven't found the way to prioritize it. I prefer to exercise after my workday is done, but with the changing season, those fleeting daylight hours are too precious for outdoor chores. I'm going to have to learn to be willing to exercise after dinner instead of sitting on the couch.
You know what I just realized?!? I play hockey after dinner... There's no difference in the intensity of a hockey game or a home workout. There should be no excuses! If I play hockey at 9pm on Thursday nights I should be willing and able to do a Carolyn Girvan workout on a Tuesday at 8pm.
Why have I let the excuses pile up before now? I've proven I'm willing to get my sweat on after dark. I always say I don't want to jump around on a full stomach... But I do. On Thursdays. Every week.
Excuses end now.
I'm a person who exercises intentionally instead of watching tv mindlessly on the couch in the evenings!7 -

Wishing everyone in Canada a happy Thanksgiving weekend!
I'm thinking about my challenges lately and weekend habits are definitely at the top of the list. I want to allow for some fun but I do get carried away. I might need to count up the meals and exercise opportunities for my 3 days off and aim for a certain amount of those being on target.
The weekend was okay and I am less sore. I did get some rest but not as much as I wanted. My dad and his wife brought their trailer up and camped for the weekend. It was nice to see them but I definitely could have used a weekend to myself. Next weekend will be very mellow and I am looking forward to it. My weight is creeping down so that is good. Tomorrow I will be back to my normal workouts. I need to find a way to do more barefoot exercise to help my foot so I might try my workout without shoes.5 -

Off to do garden work for someone, first time in 3 months, I'm sure I'll be feeling my muscles later on tonight. It's a good opportunity to contemplate the WA challenge, "I'm a person who...."5

Greetings team and happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadian teammates.
We are back on the plane flying home after a whirlwind three day trip. On Friday, we visited my brother-in-law and his wife in Toronto, drove north and visited Brad's adult stepdaughter in Peterborough, and then finished the drive north to Brad's mother's town in Ontario cottage country. Saturday and Sunday were spent with her including a ready made turkey dinner that we picked up from a neighboring town.
The visit was sedentary- the warm daylight hours were taken up with visiting and not enough time outside of those hours was spent focused on how I could add steps in. When things are rushed, the details tend to fall to the wayside.
I will do my best to catch up on step reporting asap - I owe a September summary and October week 1. I will also be in for the Waistaways challenge Nov-Dec and just need to decide what I want to ingrain as a habit.
When we land we have plans to walk the dog so my goal is to ensure I get back to my 10K steps today!5 -
Happy Monday, everyone!
It makes so much sense for North American continenters to have Thanksgiving at the end of the harvest time...and not in November a month before Christmas. Oh well. It just shows how *with it* my Canadian friends and family are!
More soon. xoxo5 -
OMG I had to survive a serious shopping expedition today, and I seriously hate shopping. Yesterday, I tried on my fanciest concert dress after being told in no uncertain terms that I had to wear something absolutely chic and spectacular for my upcoming concert in France. I love my old dress, but it is now ridiculously too big, and the fabric is too fragile to alter it again. I already altered it once when I lost weight, but now it has gone too far So.... I had to go out and buy a fancy dress. Ugh. For once, I was happy to have the internet. I looked up every clothing shop in our nearest biggish city (Sherbrooke), and found 2 that might have something I could stand. I went straight there, tried on 3 things, and it was easy to pick one. And it was not the super expensive place I was trying to avoid! I will be simultaneously flashy and subtle, but not broke. I will miss the old dress (it was my grandmother's!), but will enjoy the new one. The process reminded me that we can all do the same almost any time we need to eat out at a restaurant. Plan and save the stress.
So instead of eating a big meal with family, I went shopping. Then I stopped by my son's and watched him eat his own meal all by himself My taller half was out in the woods with the chainsaw. I guess we are not much on feasting together for thanksgiving!
I hope you are all off to a good beginning to Week 2. @ashleycarole86 happy steps tonight - we all know you will be back to inspiring the heck out of the rest of us pronto. It's good you could have the whirlwind trip to see family, even if it meant sitting around more that you wanted to. It's all good.
Update through TUESDAY:
@Rachelw124
@MoonlitMuse
@Kali225
@JEB03253
Thanks!5 -
Glad you found a dress @jugar
I too hate shopping with a passion. Glad the pre-planning made a difference. You're going to be fabulous (musically, fashionably fabulous!!!)
Thanks for the boost, too... I kept things on track tonight, but it feels like it's harder right now. I am definitely stressed, I'm back in normal life, all the things that were hard before are creeping in.
I also do think there's something to maintenance being a harder mentality. Which can't be my excuse because I have to lose again, because I worked too hard, because it's possible to maintain! (Etc etc etc...)
I will do great things again tomorrow.
I will post a loss on Thursday!
I will check in before bed tomorrow night.7 -
Happy thanksgiving to my Canadian friends
We went to the funfair on Sunday evening with our friends and their 3yo. The guys went on one ride and we all enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere. It's Nottingham's Goose Fair which is one of the biggest travelling funfairs in Europe. There were so many tempting food stalls, but we settled on Yorkshire pudding wraps.
Over the weekend we've dug out the area for the greenhouse at the allotment; it was hard going because this is where all the 'big' weeds were quite established (docks, nettles, brambles). This meant I was aching before training this morning, and now I ache some more! We were doing more work on the overhead squat, and finally managed to find the balance between squat depth and body/bar position. Alas, my home work is Pilates, which I find dull, and foam roller-ing, which I detest.
I've managed 5 of 5 'change days' for my BED plan and still feeling totally committed. I've been marking down binges, but I'm not so sure they're binges as instances of overeating - I need to re-read his definition. I'd like to get to the allotment this evening, and it's car insurance shopping time. My day will mostly be spent wrapped up in a heated throw at my desk, as the temperature has dropped!5 -
@ashleycarole86 it's probably 'just' the stress you're under at work. I know it's easier said than done to stop it having an impact, but you're so strong, you've got this!
@jugar I'm sorry it's time to stop wearing your grandmother's dress. I'm sure you will be fabulous in the new one.
@Kali225 I would recommend the book I think. Admittedly I am still in step 1, but it's been easy to stick to and the book offers a lot of guidance for if it isn't easy to stick to, which I think will be useful in the later steps.4 -
Happy Tuesday! Make it a good one5

Tuesday Weigh-in:
PW: 255.?
CW: 258.3
My friend was visiting this weekend and we ate out for every meal. It was delicious, but it's just a lot of food and we couldn't outwalk the gain.
@jugar could I be put on support team until November weigh-ins begin? I still have many busy weekends ahead of me including a lot of travel and I just don't see myself shaking out of this mood until they are behind me.4 -

No problem - there are weeks like that! I'll pester you before the November challenge starts.0
