Off to do garden work for someone, first time in 3 months, I'm sure I'll be feeling my muscles later on tonight. It's a good opportunity to contemplate the WA challenge, "I'm a person who...."5

Greetings team and happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadian teammates.
We are back on the plane flying home after a whirlwind three day trip. On Friday, we visited my brother-in-law and his wife in Toronto, drove north and visited Brad's adult stepdaughter in Peterborough, and then finished the drive north to Brad's mother's town in Ontario cottage country. Saturday and Sunday were spent with her including a ready made turkey dinner that we picked up from a neighboring town.
The visit was sedentary- the warm daylight hours were taken up with visiting and not enough time outside of those hours was spent focused on how I could add steps in. When things are rushed, the details tend to fall to the wayside.
I will do my best to catch up on step reporting asap - I owe a September summary and October week 1. I will also be in for the Waistaways challenge Nov-Dec and just need to decide what I want to ingrain as a habit.
When we land we have plans to walk the dog so my goal is to ensure I get back to my 10K steps today!5 -
Happy Monday, everyone!
It makes so much sense for North American continenters to have Thanksgiving at the end of the harvest time...and not in November a month before Christmas. Oh well. It just shows how *with it* my Canadian friends and family are!
More soon. xoxo5 -
OMG I had to survive a serious shopping expedition today, and I seriously hate shopping. Yesterday, I tried on my fanciest concert dress after being told in no uncertain terms that I had to wear something absolutely chic and spectacular for my upcoming concert in France. I love my old dress, but it is now ridiculously too big, and the fabric is too fragile to alter it again. I already altered it once when I lost weight, but now it has gone too far So.... I had to go out and buy a fancy dress. Ugh. For once, I was happy to have the internet. I looked up every clothing shop in our nearest biggish city (Sherbrooke), and found 2 that might have something I could stand. I went straight there, tried on 3 things, and it was easy to pick one. And it was not the super expensive place I was trying to avoid! I will be simultaneously flashy and subtle, but not broke. I will miss the old dress (it was my grandmother's!), but will enjoy the new one. The process reminded me that we can all do the same almost any time we need to eat out at a restaurant. Plan and save the stress.
So instead of eating a big meal with family, I went shopping. Then I stopped by my son's and watched him eat his own meal all by himself My taller half was out in the woods with the chainsaw. I guess we are not much on feasting together for thanksgiving!
I hope you are all off to a good beginning to Week 2. @ashleycarole86 happy steps tonight - we all know you will be back to inspiring the heck out of the rest of us pronto. It's good you could have the whirlwind trip to see family, even if it meant sitting around more that you wanted to. It's all good.
Update through TUESDAY:

Glad you found a dress @jugar
I too hate shopping with a passion. Glad the pre-planning made a difference. You're going to be fabulous (musically, fashionably fabulous!!!)
Thanks for the boost, too... I kept things on track tonight, but it feels like it's harder right now. I am definitely stressed, I'm back in normal life, all the things that were hard before are creeping in.
I also do think there's something to maintenance being a harder mentality. Which can't be my excuse because I have to lose again, because I worked too hard, because it's possible to maintain! (Etc etc etc...)
I will do great things again tomorrow.
I will post a loss on Thursday!
I will check in before bed tomorrow night.7 -
Happy thanksgiving to my Canadian friends
We went to the funfair on Sunday evening with our friends and their 3yo. The guys went on one ride and we all enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere. It's Nottingham's Goose Fair which is one of the biggest travelling funfairs in Europe. There were so many tempting food stalls, but we settled on Yorkshire pudding wraps.
Over the weekend we've dug out the area for the greenhouse at the allotment; it was hard going because this is where all the 'big' weeds were quite established (docks, nettles, brambles). This meant I was aching before training this morning, and now I ache some more! We were doing more work on the overhead squat, and finally managed to find the balance between squat depth and body/bar position. Alas, my home work is Pilates, which I find dull, and foam roller-ing, which I detest.
I've managed 5 of 5 'change days' for my BED plan and still feeling totally committed. I've been marking down binges, but I'm not so sure they're binges as instances of overeating - I need to re-read his definition. I'd like to get to the allotment this evening, and it's car insurance shopping time. My day will mostly be spent wrapped up in a heated throw at my desk, as the temperature has dropped!5 -
@ashleycarole86 it's probably 'just' the stress you're under at work. I know it's easier said than done to stop it having an impact, but you're so strong, you've got this!
@jugar I'm sorry it's time to stop wearing your grandmother's dress. I'm sure you will be fabulous in the new one.
@Kali225 I would recommend the book I think. Admittedly I am still in step 1, but it's been easy to stick to and the book offers a lot of guidance for if it isn't easy to stick to, which I think will be useful in the later steps.4 -
Happy Tuesday! Make it a good one5

Tuesday Weigh-in:
PW: 255.?
CW: 258.3
My friend was visiting this weekend and we ate out for every meal. It was delicious, but it's just a lot of food and we couldn't outwalk the gain.
@jugar could I be put on support team until November weigh-ins begin? I still have many busy weekends ahead of me including a lot of travel and I just don't see myself shaking out of this mood until they are behind me.4 -

No problem - there are weeks like that! I'll pester you before the November challenge starts.0 -
Don't forget! weigh-ins due through Wednesday:

Back as promised!! As I stated yesterday:
I will do great things again tomorrow.
Well, I came home from work and crawled right into bed and had a good cry until Brad motivated me out of bed to eat some supper at least. Back in bed now. Don't feel like I did great things BUT:
-I did eat under my calorie goal
-I exceeded 10000 steps
-My sleep apnea retest is in and the results are great. Went from severe obstructive sleep apnea to mild. Meet with the sleep clinic on Friday (saw my family doc today) but I think I won't have to use the CPAP anymore. A great health improvement
I will post a loss on Thursday!
Things remain on track.
I will check in before bed tomorrow night.
Here I am, pulled out of my slump enough to post. Counting that as a win. Going to bed early in hopes that a good night's sleep helps
20 days till Halloween!! Who buys candy too early?? Who has kiddos going out in cute costumes?
My wedding anniversary is next week and my birthday is Nov 1 so there's a few fun dates on the calendar coming up.6 -
I chose soup when I got home last night from my late night at work. That felt like a win. One step at a time to try to claw my way back to when my clothes felt good.
@ashleycarole86 Hugs to you as you heave out of your slump. It can be very hard. Not buying candy...at all...I know myself too well.
@jugar your new dress sounds perfect in all ways but missing the sentimental factor. How amazing that you were able to have and wear your grandmothers dress all this time. I've been such a slacker on this thread that I'd missed the news of you off to France. How fun! Dad and I watch a LOT of concerts/symphonies/operas on Youtube. If your concert will be on the internet, let us know.
@Kali225 Socializing and food control are not often compatible, right? I might need to sink into hermit mode over the winter, ha!
@DD265 a good workout in your allotment and now you have the winter to plot & plan all that you can grow next year. A woodchuck has turned up in our garden and I'll let it hibernate under the shed but then he/she and I will have to have a good talk in the spring about who gets what. The veg garden is now fenced against the deer/rabbits but will have to reassess for woodchuck-proofing in the spring.
From one of my successful weight control periods in life, using The Sonoma Diet book, I remember a tip they had - try cooking something you've never cooked before, use new-to-you ingredients. My big batch of soup was from a huge bottle gourd given to me along with a host of other veg from a Chinese friend who had too many...and they grow huge. Another item in the haul is Chayote - I tried one last year, raw in a salad..a nice nutty crunchy veg.
Have a great day everyone.

It should have been a little bit lower but I had an afternoon snack attack and a HUGE dinner.
I am not sleeping well. I fall asleep fine, but then wake up for hours in the middle of the night. I sleep better when I workout but I am now too tired to workout. I am trying to do 2 sets of 5 exercises every morning. It is better then nothing.5 -

I had a great week! Now if only I can keep it up.
@ashleycarole86 I hope you feel better soon! That is great news you may not need your CPAP anymore! We bought 2 large bags of halloween candy last weekend. We moved into our house after halloween last year, but our neighbors said they ran out of candy and had to shut off their lights 😯 I keep the candy in the sealed bag in a room I don't go in often so it doesn't tempt me. Plus I try not to buy my favorite candy 😊6 -
I am a person who.... has good intentions and then falls through in the moment.
I have an alarm set for every evening to do that workout I want to achieve (Caroline Girvan 20 minute dumbell) and things just don't seem to align for it to happen. It's a work in progress.... Maybe next week. The goal is for this to be a habit by New Years, right? It's only been a couple of days, I have to give myself a chance to make it happen before I quit!
@ashleycarole86 crying can be cathartic and help release all the negativity. I'm glad @bowens1973 was able to help you perk back up. I hope the job gets easier. You spend more of your waking hours at work than you do at home in a week so it's really rough on the sanity when that much time is spent unhappy.
@Kali225 I hear you on the social food commitments! This friday I'm going to a retirement lunch and then will likely be eating dinner on the road afterwards so I will have to find lots of extra rocks to carry around this weekend to compensate. Shouldn't be too hard, there's plenty to trip on over here.
A box of halloween candy has already been consumed in our house... there are no kids in this neighbourhood so no reason to buy more! I will do my best to stand firm. Hubby is the candy monster in the family so I'm usually able to resist while I'm shopping, but he occasionally comes along to the store and thats when the treats start to sneak into the cart.... We all know that once the temptation is in the house, it's harder to resist!2 -
@PlaneMonkey you are so right about the temptations making it into the house - from that time on, it is game over. I bought a big bag of peanut M&Ms yesterday to leave for the boys to eat while I'm gone... yeah, right. Luckily, I stopped myself while there was still enough to leave that does not look like a token amount. But man, I sure don't want any more of them today! Then I'll be off to the airport later, and will hopefully not get into any overpriced goodies there.
I think we can all do better at being the person who does not buy the things we know we should not eat - but that is a really tough one. Timing, a tight list, and a firm mantra of NO, NO, NO - usually it works, but then sometimes it all evaporates. We can get there!!
I'll probably have time for a quick check in later - all packed, and now I have time for a nice walk in the woods before leaving.3 -
@ashleycarole86 So sorry work has been so hectic and stressful. Maybe it's time for a job search? Maybe you can ask for less responsibility or a role change at work? I gave up a job role as the lead therapist about 4 years ago. It was hard to do and a lot of co workers gave me a hard time about it during the process. It was one of the best career decisions I have ever made! Sometimes having other options but deciding not to take them can give you a sense of control and that you are not stuck. Sometimes we put on a brave face at work and no one even knows we're struggling. It never hurts to ask and you might just get exactly what you want. Sounds like work obviously values and trusts your abilities.2

@jugar have a safe flight and a great trip!2
