Ok I’ll set my goal at 9000 steps daily
How does that work with exercise… already included or should I add it on top??
When do I post steps for the week? On my weigh in day?4 -
@DianaGetsFit512
The step challenge goes from Sunday to Saturday, so today is day 1 of the new week.
You can post daily, or weekly, but once the week closes I appreciate you getting your update in as soon as possible so I can issue the step report. I will usually try to wait a couple days for everyone to get the steps in.
So yeah, next Sunday if you can post for this Sun-Sat, that'll be great. Just list your steps by day and then if you had any intentional exercise minutes for other activities that those steps don't have (like biking, strength, etc.) then just give me those activities by day with minutes performed and I'll convert them to steps for you5 -

Got it! Thank you… sorry I’m asking so much lol

Monthly Introduction...
Hi everyone, I'm Brad and I am the proud husband of @ashleycarole86. We call Alberta home - living just outside Calgary. I am an avid cyclist and have just put Celeste (my road bike) away for the winter - I will visit her regularly so she doesn't get lonely living in the furnace room. I will now transition to riding our Peleton stationary bike to stay in shape. Over the course of the next month or two I will be planning my 2023 races - thinking that I will do the RBC Vancouver-Whistler Gran Fondo (again) and the Penticton Gran Fondo (first time).
My weight-loss journey began in March of 2021. I was close to 300 pounds at the time and had a total hip replacement in the fall of 2020. My inspiration was a number of factors:
1) I was no longer in pain as my surgery had fixed that.
2) I knew that I would not get as long with the new hip before requiring a second replacement if I continued to carry that much extra weight.
3) I want to live as long as possible so that Ashley and I can continue the amazing journey that we are on.
4) Most importantly, Ashley had started her journey and I had a few moments where I was sitting beside her watching tv and binge eating in front of her. I came to the realization that this was no different than one spouse trying to quit smoking while the other continues. It makes things unnecessarily difficult and seems very unfair. I didn't want to be "that guy" or somehow sabotage her success.
Since 2021, I have been as low as 170 lbs but I am currently sitting around 185 lbs and I know that my laser focus has waivered a little, but I think much of this is the result of returning to a higher degree of social normalcy - we are now back working in office primarily and along with this comes the social commitments that often center around food. We are also taking part in "extra curricular" activities that often include dining out. If COVID-19 had any positive side, it was that tracking exact calories (vs. estimating) was much easier. Ultimately, I know that is a skill that I need to master and Ashley is much better at estimating than I am (to be honest, I will often give-up on tracking at all on a day that I need to eat at a place that doesn't have nutritional information - I know this is not ideal).
My goals for the month:
1) Drink more water - I have days where I realize late in the afternoon that all I have had that day is coffee and milk with my cereal. I believe in the power of water for appetite suppression and overall health.
2) Tracking more consistently - even on those days that I find myself eating out at a place without nutrition. Although the MyFitnessPal database has lots of errors and omissions, it does a pretty good job of finding a suitable estimate.
Wishing you all a healthy and successful month!

@jugar I am a person who drinks 3 litres of water per day (basing this on: https://www.weightwatchers.com/ca/en/article/how-much-water-should-you-drink-every-day).4

Hi everyone! I'm Kristi and I'm 40 and live in Washington state in the US. I have been married for 15 years and we have 3 kids age 13, 11 and 7. We have 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs. I work 4 days a week as a school occupational therapist at a large preschool center. I'm also working on my masters degree and just passed another class! I have 5 classes left plus a capstone project. I work with a wellness coach right now and meet with her every 2 weeks or so. I'm doing macro counting for my food. I'm really working on my weekends right now. I definitely hit my calories but my macros are way off from my weekly goals. I struggle with balancing my week day goals and my weekend lack of goals.8

@ashleycarole86 Ever since I read the book The Agony and the Ecstasy as a teen I have wanted to go to Rome and see the Sistine Chapel but any place tropical with beaches is also highly desired.3

I tested NEGATIVE on my rapid test today. Wahoo. Now, I have to go back to work after 5 days of no movement. That will increase my steps by 1% for sure.
My granddaughter is still negative. Haven't done much moving today. I think my husband and I are going to go to a park in a bit and take a little walk. I have logged my food today and just finished off a bottle of water. I am still thirsty.
My challenge goal (one) is I am a person who logs my food and gets at least 15 minutes of exercise 3x per week.
Steps (Covid week)
Sunday 7162
Monday 3746 (travel day)
Tuesday 8601
Wednesday 4266
Thursday 5003
Friday 4646
Saturday 3920
Total 37,344 Next week, I will increase this number by, at least 1%. So, at least 374 more steps. I know I can do that!!
This week I averaged 46 fl oz of water. I will increase that by 1% next week to 47 ounces.
This week I had 88 zone minutes. Next week I will have at least 89 minutes.
Yesterday I had 1717 calories. Today I will eat 1% less or 18 calories less.
1% sure does seems easy, doesn't it? Will it really make a difference?7 -

Hi everyone:
I just completed my first month with the WaistAways, and although October kicked my tush, I learned a lot from the information shared on here. Grateful to be a part of this team.
My background: I'm 47 and have struggled with my weight most of my life. Overweight before high school, lost a lot of weight in high school, maintained in university, gained in early twenties, and then I got into running in 2009 and lost about 100 lbs which I kept off until 2015 when life sort of imploded. Bit by bit, the weight crept back on over the past 7 years (and then some). I'm at my all-time highest weight and ready to get back to me after jumping in to be an in-home caregiver for my mom with my dad at the beginning of the pandemic. Sadly, my mom passed away in January this year, and although the grief/emotional toll of all that transpired over the past four years remains very present (as I learned in October - hello, emotional eating), I am continuing along on my health and fitness journey in the hopes of moving closer to feeling more like myself again with each passing day.
My goals for November are to be more engaged on here (even on the "bad" days), remain committed to my C25K program (w/13 runs in Nov), move 30 minutes every day, and focus on my water intake/eating clean.
@CarolAnnM2 - congratulations on all of your successes to date. I wanted to share that I have also started a Conquerer Challenge - Road to Hana - as some additional incentive as I get back into running. I'm really enjoying it so far, and I'm super motivated to get my first Conquerer medal by December 31st!5 -
@jane_76 Thank you! I have no doubt you will get that medal by December 31! Hawaii will have some beautiful sights, too.2

kellie_erin wrote: »Hi everyone, I'm Kellie. I live in Alberta, Canada, I'm married, early 30s, full time process engineer (EIT), trying to finish an MSc, and constantly trying to lose weight.My husband and I had talked about going some place warm in February and I was hoping to be much closer to my goal weight. But given that I can't seem to lose anything lately, I don't know if the trip will happen.
My weight has yo-yoed since puberty. My highest weight was 227.8 and I got down to 168 before my wedding in 2018. My lowest weight was 145 in my early 20s. My weight has crept up since my wedding and then gone down and now it's going back up.
This yo-yo-ing is frustrating and I'm mad at myself for letting it happen. But stress seems to really impact it and this MSc has been extremely stressful. I'm also dealing with constant pain (which is hopefully improving), sleep issues, and depression (for which I'm medicated but is getting worse due to the other issues I'm dealing with).
I'm still trying to keep at it. Here's hoping for a more successful November
OK. I have to call you on this. You say you do not know if this trip will happen somehow because you are not losing weight lately? You should take this trip no matter what your weight is. You are not a better person if you lose weight, or a worse one if you do not. The sun shines on you either way, and the water feels amazing, and you can enjoy yourself no matter what. You are here with this team to try to lose some weight, but even if you do not, you are still working on feeling better. It sounds to me like this trip might feel pretty danged good - so, mission accomplished. Look past the weight and love being young, healthy, and able to enjoy some time in a warm place in February with someone you love and who loves you. We love you too! All of us have been through/are going through times where our weight is not "ideal". We are good people anyhow, and so are you. SOOOOO many hugs flying your way.6 -
@ashleycarole86 yes. Thanks for the reminder that our goals need to be realistic but push a bit. I have been realistic but not pushing enough lately - a few things need work.
Cut back on alcohol again after the trip to France.
Cut forward on challenging exercise again.
Get back to the mid-range of my maintenance.
I am looking forward to my new program for exercise with the cool trainer.
I am back on my app for alcohol tracking and aiming for 5 dry days per week.
I am tracking calories more strictly again, and will try to lose 2 pounds this month.
Steps. Exercise bike. Strength. Sit as little as possible. Sun while it is here! Snowshoeing soon4 -

Four days under goal but it was the last week of my mum’s visit and the weather didn’t cooperate for a few days. I’m very proud of her, she walked most days for a minimum of 2 miles but hit 4 miles at least three times. For reference, she is 87 and walks with a stick. Her pace improved from a 37 minute mile to under a 35 minute mile, she also lost half a stone (7lbs) while she was here 👏🏼👏🏼4 -
I’m Loraine ,
I moved from Las Vegas to rural MO in January this year. It wasn’t a good move (for many reasons) and I’ve put on about 30lbs since this time last year.
At the end of August we sold the house and moved to an apartment in Springfield at the end of September. We moved in on the Friday and got it straight by the Tuesday when my mum arrived from England for a month.
I spent the whole time she was here being totally present and focused on my time with her. I hadn’t seen her in person since March 2020 so an in person visit was long overdue. We had a lot of fun and made lots of memories but she has gone home and it’s time for me to get focused.
Today I started Intermittent Fasting and I logged everything I ate. These will be two of my goals for November along with drinking 2L of water.5 -
Fantastic beginning of month energy! I'll try to gather up everyone's commitments in one place so we can keep track and keep each other on track.
For right now - reminder for Monday! Weigh-ins due from:
@CarolAnnM2
@MoonlitMuse
@ashleydlevinson
Keep the news rolling too - hearing about everyone's experiences and how it all influences our eating and health patterns is so helpful.
Thanks!4 -

I have been thinking a great deal about the November-December challenge and “I want to be a person who eats legumes three times a week.”. I want to get more of my protein from legumes because I am already on medication for high cholesterol but my levels have not come down quite enough.4 -
@CarolAnnM2 Team Legumes! They are wonderful - can be creamy and satisfying while still being loaded with fibre and completely lacking in fat and cholesterol. I'll post my "mishmash" recipe that turns lentils and a whole lot of vegetables into the best stuff ever put over rice, on a bun, or just eaten with a spoon. And lots of others! I'm a bit of a legume freak3
-
I am a person who eats to nourish my body and intentionally move my body daily.
I did a 15 minute Barre workout this morning and got on the elliptical for 10 minutes. I prelogged my food and will stick to the meal plan. It does include an adult beverage for after trick or treating.
I would really like to be down 5 pounds by New Years. 2.5 pounds per month seems doable. I know there will be days that I indulge during the holiday season, but there are plenty of days that I can make perfect.
3 -
I am a person who prioritizes my health during the week and weekends equally
I have been sick since last Fri and stayed home from work today and probably tomorrow too. I tested negative for covid. My food hasn't been great but my loss from last week is holding. We are still taking the kids out trick or treating so I am resting up before we head out. Luckily my husband's aunt and uncle are getting dinner for everyone. All I really have to do is get my costume on and walk around with kids. I'm not congested so it's doable!6 -
@jugar THANKS! I look forward to the recipe.
@KellyBgetsfit Great attitude, accept the inevitable and move on to the positive. I have no doubt you will reach your New Years goal!
@conleywoods Hope you feel better for Trick or Treating! Great goal for November-December.0 -
I am a person that Intermittently Fasts
Today was a perfect day.
It started with a 30 minute bike ride. Nothing like @bowens1973 or @ashleycarole86 but my first ride in over a year. I ride for pleasure at a leisurely 7/8 miles per hour - that’s code for I can only go 7/8 mph 🤣
I walked to the UPS store and then the supermarket for some groceries so I got an hours walk there.
I cooked mince and potatoes for dinner and I honestly tracked all day. I also hit my water goal.
I’m now sitting on the sofa, drinking a cup of tea and watching ‘Welcome to Flatch’, I’m going to sleep well tonight ☺️
2 -
@LoraineGB 👍🏻 a perfect day! I need to get me one of those.2
-
Agree @jugar - loving the start of a new month energy!
@LoraineGB What a good mix! Exercise, walking for errands (my fav!), honest tracking, water, self care, a plan for a good night of sleep! They can't all be perfect, but darn it feels amazing when they are!!
@conleywoods What a great statement! The weekend is so easy to let it all slide for so many people. What a great intention to set. I definitely get stuck in "celebration" vibes, doesn't even have to be a weekend. It's good to incorporate plans no matter what to treat yourself, AND look after yourself at the same time. I think it stops the pendulum swinging back and forth so violently.. at least for me. It's not something I'm doing so well right now. Anyway, hope trick-or-treating was fun despite not feeling well... glad you are up to getting out at least.
@KellyBgetsfit Sounds like a realistic plan. I think when we know how to gently push ourselves without going too crazy and setting ourselves up for disappointment and near-guaranteed failure, that's the best. What I'm trying to work on right now is that first part - how to gently push myself at the times I should be so that the off-set when I have a bigger day is there.
Day 2/2 getting my 2L of walking and doing my 10 push-ups. We did get our flu shots last night and I'm not sure if it's that or coincidence but I feel a bit meh... not really up for anything more strenuous than walking but I have been getting lots of that as well. The food is still not cut back to where it needs to be. It's scary how easy it is for me to overeat - it makes complete sense how I could climb to nearly 300 pounds.
The doorbell keeps ringing with kids off to haul the candy away - gotta run! Bonus points to anyone who wants to share adorable photos of their kiddos in costumes!!3 -
What a gorgeous moon we have tonight - super bright half moon with cool clouds floating around and past it. Excellent for Halloween! Of course, no one ever comes to us - all the people as far out in the middle of nowhere as we are go into the village for trick-or-treat. We used to have a good time taking the kids there, but it was rare to have the weather as nice as tonight.
I will finish work on our "I am a person who..." project tomorrow and get it all ready to roll. It is feeling really good already.
Now, I'm trying to be like @LoraineGB and others - getting on the exercise bike to try to finish this day in perfect mode. I have not made all my steps, but everything else has been good.
Weigh-ins are due from:
@MoonlitMuse
@ashleydlevinson
We have no Tuesday people at the moment, so it is a good day to catch up and make good progress to the day you have to weigh in next!3 -
It looks like everyone had a pretty good day today with great exercise and food/water intakes today.
@conleywoods - I hope that you feel better soon!
I did eat over in my calories today but I don’t feel stuffed or like I ate too much. I also drank a lot more water today versus yesterday. I did a 40-ish minute workout this morning focused on upper body and it was pretty challenging. We spent some time after work to walk around the neighborhood with our dog who was dressed up like a little demogorgon from Stranger Things. So many people thought he looked so cute!
Tomorrow I have to go into the office in the city early in the morning, so I am challenging myself to make sure I do my workout when I get back from the office.3
