I am a person who runs a 5k
My goal is to become a jogger/runner. It is awesome the feeling I get after finishing a jog. My plan is to jog 3 days a week (minimum) at orange theory and run a 5k on New Years Day. There is a 5k called running of the lights but it's at midnight on January 1. I always thought that would be a fun race to do but as I get older, I'm in bed by 10 pm most nights 😂 It may be jogging 5k in my neighborhood on new years day.
I am glad halloween is over. I have eaten a lot of candy the past few days. This is our first year in our house and our neighbors said they ran out of candy last year. We bought 500 pieces and we only got 44 trick or treaters and have at least 250 pieces left. I am planning on bringing them to work and then avoiding going into the snack area as much as possible!4 -
@lauren_989
Your goal resonated with me.. I may have to join you on a New Year's Day 5K! I used to run a long time ago, but it's been a while. I can't explain it, but sometimes when I'm walking I just want to run!!! So, I may mull that over a bit
Oddly enough I haven't had any candy yet, which is unlike me and normally I would just plan it in, but I think it's only beacuse there's been so many other indulgences I don't have room for that too!
Doorbell is still ringing here.. the kids are getting older! Getting my steps running to the door and back for sure6 -
So tired but popping in to say hi. A few small candies were eaten.4

Good morning WaistAways!
My PW for November, per today's weigh in, is 177.8.
I've felt bloated the last couple days, and the water quality at work is suspect- typing that is a reminder that it is time for me to go fill up my big water bottle to bring with me.
~~15 minutes later, lol~~
Alright, got my water bottle filled and ready (the thing is like half a gallon, so plenty for work). Breakfast is egg whites and chicken sausage, lunch is tilapia and steamed veg and potato (one of the little boxes of steamed mixed veg, yummm). My snacks are an apple and a protein bar, and I've finished my coffee and treat (one reeses cup from yesterday). I've even got room for another reeses tonight. Today is On Track.
Thinking about who I want to be in January. We've recently made the room in our budget, now that we've paid off the house, to have a maid service come by biweekly, so our first clean is this week. That will help me a lot, I think. My littler child is still developmentally in the messmaking stage, which is hard to keep up with. We're all constantly tired. And a lot of that is just a glut of toys and little trinkets she gets at school events and stuff.
I think, along with the cleaning service, the thing that would help me the most, day to day, is to reduce the amount of Stuff around here. There are some things in this house I know no one has touched in months.
So for January:
I am a person who has just enough stuff.
Action plan:
- Declutter the hall closet, one week. Right now it's filled with odds, ends, saved wrapping paper, and our coats.
- Declutter the playroom, spread over three weeks. Get rid of all broken toys or toys missing pieces. Then talk to the girls about what toys they don't play with, and donate them. Then organize the toys left so that they know where they go.
- Declutter the master bedroom, one week. Get rid of all things you haven't touched since last year.
- Declutter the children's books, one week. Get rid of all the books that too broken to read, and make it easier for the girls to put them away.
After that, the ramp up to the holidays gets insane, and I don't want to ask anything of myself until after the holidays. We'll see what I find out about myself and the house as we go.
Clothes are another whole thing I'm going to have to do, but right now the clothes situation is not that out of control.
Hall closet is an easy win to start, so by next Tuesday, we'll see where I am on that.
Geez, I hope that's it, haha. Have a great day, everyone!

@lauren_989 Running The Lights sounds like it would be fun. I'm sure you can reach that goal. What a novel New Year's Eve activity. If they did Walking The Lights I would consider it too.
@CupcakeCrusoe Purging can be very rewarding. I know it was for me when I did it 5 years ago. Great Action plan!3 -
good morning all, I'm Sylvia here in Massachusetts, and a longtime Waistaway. My weight has swung up and down through life but never staying down for long...I would like it to be forever, I feel better, but I know that for me it will be a lifelong battle and I'll always have to be conscious. I'm a snacker, a too-big portions, and a stress eater. I did great in 2020 and then you'll see the story in my chart below. Quite a few stressors in the mix but things have calmed down mostly and I feel now is the time to refocus. I need just today to really think on my 'I am a person who..."

Good morning!! I introduced myself in the October thread but I guess I need to do it again. My name is Cristy. I'm 48, married with 2 adult girls (19 & 23). I started off 3 weeks ago at 165 lbs and am now down to 157.2 with a goal of 145, but would love to get closer to 135 if I can. I'm struggling with pre-menopause and all the fun that goes with that including the menopause belly and difficulty in losing weight. After getting my lab results from my Dr 3 weeks ago that indicated I officially have high cholesterol after being borderline for a while, I decided it was time to get my life together. I don't want to take medication if I don't absolutely have to, so I changed my diet, starting taking natural supplements, and exercising. I'm going back to the Dr in 3 months to run labs again, so I'm hoping all of these changes will make a difference.
One my biggest challenges currently is that I have daughter playing college basketball 3.5 hours from home, so I'm going to be spending a lot of time on the road and am going to have to be diligent about packing healthy snacks/meals. It's going to be a lot of late nights and I don't want to give into eating a bunch of junk just because I'm too tired to care, ya know?
I'm looking forward to getting know you all and being part of a supportive group. Thanks for letting me join!7 -
Greetings Waistaways,
Now that we have Halloween behind us I can begin to think about Christmas! I married a Halloween baby, so we never refer to Halloween as anything other than Ben's birthday. And out of respect to my darling hubby, I don't refer to the C word until after his birthday! But today is the 1st of November. It's been a good day so far - I had a morning virtual training session with a group of learners in 6 different countries! Good fun! And this afternoon I plan to put together an assignment for the apprentices that I lecture each week - we have an online session planned for tomorrow morning.
I didn't do a workout this morning, but tomorrow morning I will get back on track. And go shopping. And pack. Ben and I are going to Belfast for a short city break on Thursday, so I need to prepare for that trip. I am really looking forward to it - we both need the break.
I love your decluttering plans @CupcakeCrusoe because I really want to make big inroads in my own decluttering project by Christmas - a dear friend will be coming to stay for a few days. Added to which, Future Yinka lives in a house that requires very little maintenance, so once I've made some inroads with Project Declutter, I will feel better about getting a regular weekly cleaner. Future Yinka is looking to engage this essential service after January.
Enjoy the rest of your day, Team.4 -
Happy Tuesday!
I am having a great time collecting everyone's "I am a person who" statements, goals, and plans. I'm seriously inspired. I'm thinking of joining The Conqueror and trying one of the events to get myself inspired to walk more again. For some reason, I'm having trouble getting out the door just to walk. This would help! @jane_76 and @CarolAnnM2 - and anyone else who wants to give one a try - maybe we could form a team?? I'm not sure how that works, just throwing the idea into the pool.
I went this morning to the geriatric research institute attached to the medical school in Sherbrooke Québec, hoping to join a study on dementia prevention. After all the blood tests, medical history, etc., they administered a cognitive test - and I did not have enough of a deficit to be included in the study! They maybe should have started with that. In any case, it is good news that my memory slippages and things that sometimes worry me are not yet bad enough for their purposes. It was interesting to learn all about the study in any case, and encouraging that so much research is going into dementia.
OK - a version of our 2 month endeavour for January 1st glory will be on the way soon!5 -
Happy Tuesday all.
I am visiting a customer, so staying in a hotel. I drove down last night and had an awful 2.5hr journey in torrential rain, arriving at 9.30pm with a massive headache. It's been a good day today with a colleague and the customer, but I have found it impossible to stick to my planned eating. Thankfully, it's just for two days. I did bring cereal bars with me, it's just we were so busy/they weren't accessible. Tomorrow I'm aiming to keep one with me so I can be a little rude and eat whilst we work.
I have however, been doing my CBT consistently and I'll do more tonight.
The hotel is nice, with a pretty lake and if it wasn't a) pouring with rain and b) pitch black, I suspect it would be a lovely area to walk in. Heading home tomorrow after work and expecting to get back late. I'm very glad that work-travel is the exception, rather than the norm!5 -
I think I'll join the January challenge:
"I'm a person who gets up with their alarm" and "I'm a person who exercises four times a week".
I think both of these are challenging but doable!3 -
I am a person who walks in the evening.
no commitment on how many times/week, how long or how strenuous. Just to be sure to get out there in the dark and quiet evening, look up at the stars, walk for a bit and BREATHE.3 -
@jugar and @jane_76 I would totally be up for a Team Challenge at The Conquerer. I got this off their website:Teams are a fun way to take part in The Conqueror Virtual Fitness Challenges. **Note that each team member is required to purchase their own entry into the challenge. Each team member will receive their own medal at the end** Basically you share the distance with the other people in your team. Your team will have their very own team icon on the map. Each time a team member posts a distance, your team icon will advance along the map. Your team will also be represented on the leaderboard. You will also be able to see information about your own personal achievements and rankings separate from the team. The distance doesn’t have to be divided evenly among team members. You can team up with guru athletes and people just starting out! So hustle up your friends or workmates and join the fun!
All we have to do is decide which Challenge to do and probably a team name.0 -
Here is the first draft!
I have put in everyone's statements, steps to get there, and some interpretations of what you have written - please feel free to edit any of it!
First off, I changed the statements from "I am a person who" to simply "I ____ " I thought it might be more direct, but if you prefer the first way, please feel free to change that too.
How to make changes? Two ways:- Edit yourself - the shared spreadsheet is at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Wi0i87iKT7THzfMInln_oyb5IQAfsiSPBaHwWGfCA4c/edit?usp=sharing
- Just post here and I'm happy to update it for you.
I'll also post screenshots here as we progress through the weeks, so it won't just be some invisible spreadsheet somewhere - and I hope that anyone who wants to jump in, no matter what kind of change you're building by January 1st. You can change your mind, update your steps, propose changes to the whole challenge, whatever it takes to make this a useful tool.
More people are welcome to join in, of course!1 -

Good News! I think I recall you lived in Greensboro, where I lived the last 11 years. That race is called Running of the Balls and it’s in Sunset Hills. It is on December 10th at 6pm. The light balls are soooooo amazing. Here’s a link. https://www.facebook.com/therunningoftheballs/
Even if you decide not to race (you can also walk the 5k) you should DEFINITELY go see the neighborhood after Thanksgiving. It is other worldly. 🪩3 -
If anyone wants to see a clip of what it looks like here is a news clip on the light balls.

@micki48 Thanks for the link! That is a lovely idea and I'll bet it's a fun 5k to do.CarolAnnM2 wrote: »@jugar and @jane_76 I would totally be up for a Team Challenge at The Conqueror. Ooooh! That could be a fun way to get through one of the longer ones without it taking too long, but of course that means we'd each be paying for more challenges Shall we try one anyhow?? Or we could all sign up for one but each complete it separately and still encourage each other as we go. Since you're starting the Road to Hana @jane_76 we could join you either as a team or separately. Plotting!0 -

We are an impressive group!2 -
Thanks for the spreadsheet @jugar.
I logged today. The good, bad and it was ugly. Almost 2400 calories and the ones that sent me over were definitely junk I could have cut out. Sadly, I did not have that discipline. BUT, I logged it anyway and that’s a start to being a person who logs.
I am happy to report I have now had two negative Covid tests and feel just fine. Hubby still has some cough but it could be his normal cough. My daughter is feeling much better but still testing positive and my granddaughter seems to have dodged it. At least, she never tested positive.
We are excitedly watching baseball here in Philly as our Phillies play the World Series. It may not be a perfect week for food. Speaking of that, the scale was up and definitely NOT my friend today. But, I will log!!
Til tomorrow…4 -
I am a person who chooses to workout instead of drink when I am stressed.
My husband and I had a fight, but I choose to stick to my plan to get on the elliptical for 15 minute, even though I wanted a glass of wine. Yesterday, I prelogged a Baileys drink, which was a lot of calories, but I was too tired after trick or treating. I am definitely feeling confident about tomorrow's weigh in.
@CupcakeCrusoe YES!!!! I love to decanter! I want to make a plan of attack for that too.
@jugat its weird to hear you say you don't go walk as much. I think of you as a walker.🤷♀️
@eggfreak you got this! Evening walks are the best!
@yinxfed Happy Birthday to your husband!!! I love, love love, Christmas, but I wait until November too. I actually like to put out Thanksgiving decorations, then switch to Christmas Thanksgiving weekend, but I will start watching movies and listening to music this month.
@ashleycarole86 Great job resisting the candy!!! I took the kods trick or treating yesterday and definitely saw a lot of older kids out and about. I feel like they missed a year or two due to Covid so as long as they are in costume and being respectful, go for it! How many steps do you think I got yesterday????😉
3 -
Oh, and I was being kind of funny with I am statement above. I was proud of my choice, but drinking when I am stressed isn't actually a problem for me.3
-
Good morning WaistAways!
@CarolAnnM2 I think that sounds exciting! I don't currently have a pedometer so I can't quite participate (I have to leave my phone in a locker while I work), but I'll be watching avidly!
@jugar I love a good spreadsheet, this is exciting! Clearing out the hall closet will probably wait until Life Calms Down around here, but the accountability is going to make me go through with it, for sure.
Whooshed back to 175.4 this morning, probably having to do with all the water I finally drank yesterday.
I was super stressed yesterday, there's a lot going on in Casa Cupcake, so before dinner was out of the oven I'd eaten 5 packets of fun-size peanut m&ms. Logged them all, ate my dinner so I didn't feel bad when I went to the gym, and that was that. Ended the day at around maintenance, so not too terrible.
The gym was great- I tried a new class and found that I really liked it. And then I got invited to a photoshoot in a couple weeks for new pictures for the website, so that's exciting.
Have a great day, everyone!4 -
Weigh In Day: Wednesday
PW (Previous Weight): 157.2
CW (Current Weight): 157.2
Well I didn't lose any weight this week, but I feel super bloated and yucky today, so I'm counting the fact that I didn't gain any weight as a win! My kiddo has a basketball game tonight so that means 9 hours on the road for a 2 hour game, but I also wouldn't miss it for the world! I'm going to take some healthy snacks with me and try to make good food choices.
Have a great day everyone!3 -

Last call for week 4 steps for October @jugar and @CupcakeCrusoe (I will go back tonight and ensure I didn't miss them but I don't think so.. if so ignore me!!)
Yesterday was my 36th birthday. We also started getting a crazy amount of snow that has continued into this morning. So, commuting is slow to say the least. We went out for supper last night to a place that has games too - played some pool, shuffleboard, and arcade games. My weight is good - hoping for a small loss tomorrow but it will require a perfect day today.
Good weigh in @KellyBgetsfit and way to choose exercise as your stress reliever. I need to be doing this. I haven't been myself the last few months - the work stress is old news to this group but I am having trouble righting my mind. Need to figure that out.
Stay safe and warm my fellow Calgarian @kellie_erin
Loving everyone's pledge statements for the rest of the year. Lots of great ideas5 -
@ashleycarole86 Happy Belated Birthday!! 🎉🎉
With all the snow, I'm working from home today and have convinced my hubby to drive me to an appointment because I hate winter driving!
Drive safe too @ashleycarole86 ! It seems like people are mostly taking it slow🤞1 -
Lucky snow people! @ashleycarole86 and @kellie_erin (and probably on the way for @CarolAnnM2 ) I'm jealous. You know me and snow - never too soon, never too much! My daughter is trying to send the Alberta snow directly to me, but so far it is not working. I'm glad you could work from home, though, Kellie - that makes it a lot easier.
My steps for last week! yikes. I totally forgot I had not done this yes...
