@LoraineGB That's an adorable house! I love the little tower building.CarolAnnM2 wrote: »
Today I did my longest and hilliest snowshoe route just to make sure there aren't any trees down or other obstructions. Whew! Even in regular shoes over nothing deeper than all the fallen leaves it is a challenging walk. I have some wind and endurance to build up before I'm ready for the full route on snowshoes! I'm always way more in shape in winter than any other time, so this will inspire me to get going out there. I enjoy a walk more when it is challenging, so there we go. The views are great now that all the leaves are down.
Happy one-day-late birthday @ashleycarole86 !!! I know things are a bit of a battle with work stress and all the big changes, but I think you are doing an amazing job. You slip a bit, and get back up. You take a deep breath and do what needs to be done. Be sure to add "basking" to your tasks for the month. Soak up some light in a sunny window or sheltered place outdoors, take some really deep breaths, just be for a few minutes every now and again. You deserve some basking! Including in praise from everyone who knows how fabulous you are
@KellyBgetsfit You are hitting a great stride! I love your idea to exercise your way through when you need to bust some stress. Every tool we can use to avoid those bad food and drink choices is one to hold onto and use with vigour!
@CupcakeCrusoe Casa Cupcake - this has me picturing a very silly version of the gingerbread house
I hear you on the peanut m&ms. They are the only candy I like, and they can get kinda scary sometimes! I hope they're gone!
I have now enjoyed this moment of procrastination. Time to move on...3 -
@ashleycarole86 Happy Birthday 🎂🥂🎁
7 years ago this month I was five pounds heavier than I am now. I popped my right calf muscle and couldn’t hold myself up and that resulted in my losing 48lbs and keeping it mostly off for the following 6 years.
This last year has been a whole lot of upheaval and distress and I have steadily gained month on month. Today, I felt a pull in my left calf muscle. My body does not like this extra weight, it’s hard to carry around and deal with. No clothes fit so I am wearing the same leggings and tees and it sucks, it’s my own fault, a direct consequence of my actions. Time to do better.

Not a great start to the new month 😕 I have been sick the past few days, didn't get to the gym yesterday and luckily don't have any more access to candy.
Happy Belated Birthday @ashleycarole86!!
@CarolAnnM2 many people definitely walk the 5k and they have a 1.75 mile fun walk. I will most likely be jog/walking but want to increase the amount of time I can jog.
@micki48 Yes! That neighborhood is beautiful with the lights! We drive through it every year, but have not done that race. Definitely something to look into!4 -
I was on plan to have a good yesterdayGreetings Waistaways,
Now that we have Halloween behind us I can begin to think about Christmas! I married a Halloween baby, so we never refer to Halloween as anything other than Ben's birthday. And out of respect to my darling hubby, I don't refer to the C word until after his birthday! But today is the 1st of November. It's been a good day so far - I had a morning virtual training session with a group of learners in 6 different countries! Good fun! And this afternoon I plan to put together an assignment for the apprentices that I lecture each week - we have an online session planned for tomorrow morning.
I love your decluttering plans @CupcakeCrusoe because I really want to make big inroads in my own decluttering project by Christmas - a dear friend will be coming to stay for a few days. Added to which, Future Yinka lives in a house that requires very little maintenance, so once I've made some inroads with Project Declutter, I will feel better about getting a regular weekly cleaner. Future Yinka is looking to engage this essential service after January.
Enjoy the rest of your day, Team.
I love 'Ben's Birthday', my sister's birthday is 17th December and she will not put up a decoration or card until after she has celebrated her day.
We had to seriously declutter when we moved out of our house and into our apartment so we were brutal with our decisions on what to keep. I have about 8 more plastic buckets to go through but I have 8 months to do it as we won't decide if we are staying or going until August next year.

@jugar oops forgot to post my new year statement
Struggling between being tough on myself and being realistic but I’m going to go with:
I am a person who works out atleast 3 times a week
(The other statement was : I am a person who doesn’t eat after dinner… but that is my biggest struggle and I don’t want to fail miserably)
So Ive been really struggling with feeling like a failure.. I sneaked on the scale today and it hasn’t really changed. I thought my weigh in last week was sodium retention so I expected to be down 2 lbs now.. but I guess I really did gain like 4 lb in the last month. I get super upset with myself because I just can’t believe that Im back where Im at. I know I haven’t made the best choices all the time, but I also don’t think Ive made horrible choices! Im not tracking everyday and I wasnt active last week so I shouldn’t be surprised but still ughhh just having a day!5 -

@DianaGetsFit512 maybe your statement could be 'I am a person who makes a healthy choice if I eat after dinner' and then have a basket containing a selection of items you'd be happy with. As long as you factor it in to your calorie goal if that's what you're working with, then no harm no foul. I've found that it's much easier to stick with a planned evening snack like 'I'm going to have a chocolate bar at 8.30pm', than it is to try and go in totally unplanned, but that having a choice of small chocolate bars in the moment stops me from feeling restricted.
@jugar I've been wanting to do the LOTR Conqueror challenge for ages, but the cost is prohibitive. We did use something at work for team activities, I will see if I can dig out the details. There may have been a small cost on the host account, but it was free for participants.
It was another terrible drive home last night; multiple accidents on the motorways, torrential rain, dark, twisty roads I don't know etc, took almost 3 hours. I had already said we needed to plan on fast food because I had no idea what time I'd get home, but I couldn't face adding to my journey home so just as I got in the door the takeaway delivery driver pulled up. Whether it's because they did the wrong thing (beef instead of chicken) or my headache or what, I only managed half and saved the rest for lunch today.
I'm glad to be home and back in my regular eating routine. I will need to think more carefully about how I can manage it the next time I am required to travel, but I plan to write a few pointers this weekend whilst it's still fresh in my mind. Where I travel to, and what I'm doing when I get there, can vary massively which is part of the challenge!
I'm feeling like there's loads to do, but focusing my to do lists (work and personal) to the priorities to give myself breathing space. It's just after 12, and I have a meeting at lunch, so I'm going for a quick walk to check on the allotment - it will be too dark after work - then I will have my leftovers for lunch. Looking forward to some fresh air.4 -
@DD265
Thank you… very true… the issue is I have dinner pretty late because of work so I really shouldn’t be eating anything after dinner and usually grab multiples just because1 -

I went to a Malaysian vegan cooking class last night just for fun. I am getting sick of the same old stuff I make every day and thought it might help! We had a blast. The guy giving the class was so happy and kind, the group was fun, and the food delicious even though there was a heck of a lot of tofu which does not always agree with me! We cooked in little teams of 3 and shared everything, made 3 different dishes, and now I have some great recipes to adapt, lots of info about certain ingredients and where to find them, how to store them, etc.
Today is my new program starting with my new trainer - lots of new. It's a gorgeous day and looking like a very warm weekend. I'll be heading down to see my dad in Massachusetts tomorrow where it will be even warmer Lots of car hours so I'll have to be sure to get in some steps before and after, or maybe stop somewhere with nice trails on the way down. Anyone feel like a hike somewhere in New Hampshire?6 -
@jugar I'm going to take a pass this week. I'm still sick and ended up with pink eye on top of it. I'm mostly living off crackers and soup. I never even made it on the scale. Hopefully I will be back to normal before work on Monday.4

Happy Thursday everyone!
As I work in HR, this week has been very busy with our end-year meetings on performance ratings, so I have been working 11-12 hours every day this week. I’m actually only working 10 hours today which feels like such a reprieve! Unfortunately, it’s going to pick up again with some other end-year meetings next week and so I am going to have to figure out when I work out. I don’t really want to wake up at 5am but that may be the only way to give myself that workout time.
I am looking forward to tomorrow; after work I am getting dinner with my brother and his family and we are doing BBQ! Then we have friends visiting on Saturday to hang out for the day. I associate gatherings with food and drink so I will do my best to listen to my stomach and not eat/drink too much.2 -
@conleywoods I hope you feel better soon! Soup and crackers are sometimes nice and comforting, but the reasons are rarely good. Take good care of yourself
The new workout from the new trainer is going to be good, I think! I have 2 versions of the same set of exercises - a slow controlled version to develop strength and stability, and a circuit version for aerobic development and coordination. I like the guy's approach - we'll see how well it goes!

Bloating at the beginning of the month strikes again, so this weigh in looks wild right now.
@ashleycarole it's probably too late, but I've attended 4 classes, so 240 minutes, so far this week!
The cleaners came yesterday, it is truly a joy to walk around a house I didn't clean but it's clean. Every room feels like someone came in here and showed me love. Definitely going to keep this service.
As to decluttering- I was so busy moving the Stuff around for the cleaners to come that I haven't tackled the hall closet yet. This weekend!
Have a great day, WaistAways!5 -

Should be happier with this weigh in, but I really thought that 226 was bloat and I was really around 223… guess I was wrong. I really did gain some weight in October.. oh well… glad I joined this group to keep moving downwards! We got this!!
This weekend will be tough with my baby’s 1 year old birthday party. Hoping to keep up with my activity and not go overboard. Was making the goody bags last night and had a few too many treats myself.6 -
Hi team,
I'm late to the game this month. Sorry I haven't reintroduced myself or caught up on the last 6 pages of the chat.
I'm Courtney and I joined this wonderful team in August 2020 after a serious bout of self-indulgence during Covid lockdowns resulted in my gaining 25lbs on top of the extra I had already been carrying from my last failed yo-yo fad diet attempt. The support and accountability of MFP has allowed me to get to my initial goal weight and I have hovered around it for the last 16 months.
I keep thinking I will reset, buckle down, and lose the next 15lbs to get down to the size I was when I was a teenager, but I never make much progress as I'm not willing to put in the time and effort consistently to do it. When I was a teenager I was an elite athlete with nothing else on my "plate" but school and exercise. I'm now an adult with all the extra pressures and expectations that come with it. That said, I am so glad for the progress I have already made and maintaining this loss for this long is a win in itself.

@jugar I'd like to withdraw from the team competition and declare I'm in maintenance. This is me, this is where I'm going to stay.
My maintenance range is 185-195. I'm happy here. I'm going to focus more on what my body can do and less on what it looks like (although I'm pretty happy with that too) I'm going to concentrate on muscle strength and joint health.

Congratulations! The maintenance place is a good one - you look amazing and play hockey on the regular. What more can we say? That is beautiful.
In the "Goal Zone" part of the team, you still weigh in every week, just to make sure to stay within your range. You get bumped back to the competition if you spend 2 weeks above the top of your range, and go right back down as soon as you spend 2 weeks back inside the range. Keep checking in for inspiration (and to offer some too!). I love it when the Goal Zone grows!!4 -

As of Monday I am now officially retired. The last month was hard. My emotions were all over the place, and I was back to all my old eating habits. I hadn't realized how much my identity was tied to my job.
I saw my diabetes nutritionist and confessed all. We came up with goals I can buy into and plan to stick to until my February appointment.
6 -
Congratulations on hitting maintenance @PlaneMonkey!
Congratulations to @JEB03253 on your retirement; I'm sure you'll have it figured out quickly.
I had my health check today - they were able to take the blood on the 4th go! Normally they'd stop at 3, but I'd asked them to do the blood test first as I was nervous, then to give it one last try at the end because I didn't want to go back. I did some star jumps, and that did the trick. I know that my blood pressure is good; the other results will be 2-3 weeks. If it all comes back good then I suppose that's positive, but I'm not sure it'll help me get that dietician referral. I have decided that I'll pay for one out of pocket, if I must.
The rest of the afternoon/evening I haven't felt like doing much, so I haven't. Mostly it's been snuggles with one of the cats, and I'll go back to that soon. Washed up after tea (baked a couple of potatoes from the allotment), organised the freezer ready to start batch cooking again and done the meal plan so I can go food shopping tomorrow. On the menu are a roast dinner - it's been a while - a pork stew, a lamb curry, spag bol and a chicken stir fry. We've agreed that rather than doing big batch cook sessions, we'll make extra of regular meals and add to the freezer without removing things for a while until it's restocked. Hopefully this will make it feel less of a chore.4 -
Today has been really *kitten*. My master's supervisor cancelled our meeting two weeks ago and then just didn't show up for our meeting this morning. It was a Zoom meeting so I could do work while waiting for him. But it seems impossible now that I'll be able to finish this semester as the defense requires six weeks of notice to book. I'm waiting on him to pass along results from a simulation so I can actually write the thesis (he has access to the program and I don't).
I took next week off of work to write the thesis and I told him that when he cancelled our last meeting.
I ate my feelings at lunch instead of my healthy lunch that I bought in. And I did go to the gym. But I injured my already injured ankle/foot (that has been tentatively healing after months of physio) in a new and exciting way. So now I can barely put any weight on it.
Right now most of me wants to give up6 -
My weight was up a pound today. @jugar I’d like to wait and see if tomorrow is any better.
It’s been a baseball week here, not with the outcome we wanted the last two games. It’s not over yet!!
Hasn’t been a perfect week but I survived my first week back at school after Covid. And it was Halloween too.4 -
Apologies, @jugar - requesting another pass.
It’s been a tough week. I received some health news, and although I’m going to be okay in time, it derailed me.
I’m hopeful for a better week next week. I’m disappointed in my starts and stops here.
Have a good start to the weekend, everyone.4 -
@JEB03253 It is so good to see you back! Retirement is SO difficult. I found the first year intensely challenging. It is easy to feel useless - the need to decide and direct our own activities after all those years of knowing exactly what needed to be done is a real bear. It hit me much harder than I expected it to, so be assured you are not alone in finding it tough! Let the anger give you strength, the disquiet give you energy, and any other negative thing give you some other gift. It is certainly not easy, but you'll get through it - and we've got your back! Hang out here whenever things get ridiculous.
@kellie_erin I have said it before and I continue to think that your thesis advisor needs a stern talking to! So sorry you are fighting that and then re-injuring your ankle. Arrrrrrgh! Stick with your exercise any way you can - even if it is in a chair and using a lot of arms. Kneeling push-ups, lots of mat exercises - anything that gives your ankle a rest. Hang in there
@micki48 and @jane_76 you also - tough times. Keep coming by to share how things are going. Hugs!2 -

There is a concept that really resonated with me on the Half Size Me podcast that @DD265 is agreeing with in her suggestion and it's basically "know what your nature is, and work with it".
So, it sounds like this is happening quite frequently for you, and it's challenging to change. Rather than fight that and feel like a failure, I sort of agree you flip the script here. Be a person who plans her after dinner treat. Let it be what will satisfy you. If you have your planned treat and a craving for something else comes up, pre track it for the next night and that way you've made a commitment to yourself that you CAN have it, just not right now.3 -
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was a good week. Thursday night a dear friend took me out for a birthday supper and last night my trailer neighbor and another dear friend turned 77 so we went out for supper with him and his wife.. we are nearly birthday twins. I have felt a bit more composed on the healthy choices scale- feels better. Exercise is still way down. I'm not at my best mentally, in fact in some ways at my worst, so the fact I'm not in a big weight gain slide when in the past I've been someone who has ate my feelings in a big way feels like a win.
Have a good time in Massachusetts @jugar
Congrats on shifting to maintenance @PlaneMonkey
Retirement is a major life shift @JEB03253 .. work takes us so much of our time that I imagine it's a really jarring shift. Look forward to hearing you found your groove.
@jane_76 I think in the face of tough health news it's expected your progress might halt temporarily. I am glad it will be okay in time but that's still not easy to take. Be kind to yourself at this time.3
