Getting there slowly but surely.
8.2 lbs down, 10.8 lbs to go. I’ve been making healthier choices recently, such as swapping white bread for brown, eating fruit instead of crisps or chocolate, and getting to bed earlier which stops me from eating through the night!

I appreciate all the supportive messages about the loss of our dog, Petey. He brought pure joy to our family and neighborhood so there are lots of memories and fun stories that people will be tired of hearing for years to come. ❤️🐾❤️
Thank you for your thoughtful and uplifting comments! I hope you all enjoy the weekend.5 -
@PatriceFitnessPal aw, I'm so sorry to hear about Petey, sounds like he was an amazing companion. Hope you are taking care.1

@Pupowl Gorgeous photos from your walk the other day! What a beautiful place to walk, is that close to where you live?
I'm also enjoying your daily cards, thanks for posting them!2 -

Happy Friday, friends! We had another busy week and I haven't had energy/time to focus on my nutrition and sleep so my weight is up slightly again. I've been fairly active still with coaching hockey and lately more walking into work, but my losses will come when I'm able to focus on nutrition and sleep. March is still going to be busy for our family, but things should quiet down in April. Until then, I'll keep active and see what small changes I can easily make.

Thank you! It is a national park called Dwingelderveld. I live very close to it, about 5 minutes biking away from the start point of two walks. If I bike 10 minutes, there is another area with 4 different marked walks. It really is awesome. Nice to hear you enjoy the cards as well.3 -

Completed my first longish (40 mi) bike ride this past Sunday as part of an event in Houston. The ride went great and I realized I could have done the 60 mile event. Working on making sure I don't go over my calorie goal most days.3 -

Well, it’s been an interesting week. I finally came down with Covid, but got on Paxlovid immediately and I’m feeling much better. A few strange symptoms, but really, much easier than the bronchitis I dealt with in January. Grateful for vaccines and antivirals because this would have been much more stressful without them. Also my husband developed a strange swelling in his hand, a real downer for a guitar player! Three dr visits, one ER visit, multiple trips for imaging, and we still don’t know what it is! He has an appointment with a new doc today but the current theory is is some kind of infection so he was started on strong antibiotics. Fortunately, the swelling seems improved from yesterday, but we’d certainly like some answers.
So eating has been hit or miss, my appetite has decreased and I haven’t been doing mindless snacking. I’m glad to see the scale drop, but I’m hoping it’s not temporary. I’m going to take the remaining isolation time and see if I can work on some head stuff and habits! I am feeling better, and I do have enough food to make some proper meals for the next few days. Failure to execute seems to be my weakness so that’s going to be my focus this week. Seems like a good time to do a reset.7 -

I'm happy to see this number but I know this happens the first week that I really track and cut out my snacking. It's been more than a minute since I got really serious about tracking. I just haven't been in the right frame of mind to seriously track my food. Anyway, have a great weekend y'all!

Back from a week in DC. I had intended to weigh on Monday before I left, but somehow that didn't happen. Very happy to see where the scale was this morning.
I didn't really track while I was there, but also feel like I did pretty good. I stuck to the no alcohol thing and didn't miss it. One of the days, we were sent on a scavenger hunt as a team building exercise, so lots of steps.
My team at dinner after our scavenger hunt.

Good morning Shape Shifters. I was feeling a little crappy all day; the headache just wouldn't quit. I took my last two pills so I will get new ones today. I worked on a new puzzle a bit and was pretty lazy. I did get in a 24 minute workout in the evening. I rather not have 2 rest days in a row, because in my experience that can snowball into even more skipped workouts. Thankfully it was only a short one, though plenty intense. I had a shower, finished my book in bed and had an okay sleep. Happy Saturday everyone4 -

@PatriceFitnessPal sorry I'm a bit late in sending you virtual hugs for the loss of your great companion Petey.Im sure you feel like you've lost a family member.
@SavageMrsMoose so glad Buddy enjoyed his road trip,he looks such a cutie.
@Pupowl & @LaurieWrobo thanks for the tips on the habit tracker I will give it a try on my phone.Or I could just do it the old fashioned way with a pen & paper.
I track my weight,BMI & muscle etc on my Salter scale.Ive just put in all my measurements today & they are the same since November.I'm happy with that at least they've not gone up.
@cre804 sorry you've had the dreaded covid, but glad that you weren't too poorly.Hope your husband recovers quickly,my Mum had the same things a few years back when she was in a care home.At first they thought it was an insect bite, but a course of antibiotics sorted it.The start of a new month is always a good time to reset your mind & goals, good luck.
Have a great Saturday all 🩷

Thanks again for all the condolence messages @izzyred9400, @Pupowl, @LaurieWrobo, @nancyinmo, @bearchested, @jessicakrall8, @ac204, @SavageMrsMoose, @pedal__power, and anyone I inadvertently missed. I appreciate all the support!
It will take time to absorb the sadness but I’ve been embracing the many happy memories while adjusting to the void and many routine changes we’re feeling without Petey. The memories make me smile and laugh. I’m going to visit my son in Boston next week so I’m looking forward to a hug from him. It will be a quick visit with a number of tasks to accomplish but it might help to stay busy.
Thanks again for all your kind thoughts and comments!6 -
Belated Introduction
Welcome to the new members of our Shape Shifters team! As you can see from the comments above, this is a very supportive and motivating group!
My name is Patrice and started using the MFP app to track my exercise and nutrition in March 2020, when life slowed down due to the pandemic. At that time, my BMI put me in the overweight category at 168 pounds. There was not much I could control related to the spread of COVID in those early days so I decided to concentrate on improving my health. I lost about 15 pounds between March 2020 and September 2020. I’m 56 years old and a little over 5’3” tall so that loss moved me to the high end of a normal BMI range.
I continued to engage in the MFP general discussion pages through May 2021, reading the success stories for motivation and tips. As I got closer to a healthier weight, I moved VERY slowly toward my goal of 125 but needed more support.
So, I joined the MFP Challenge in June 2021 at about 135 pounds and within about three months, I achieved my goal of 125 in September 2021. That was a big boost to my confidence! The regular interaction here has helped me through the difficult process of sustaining my healthiest weight through typical life challenges, but I still haven’t mastered ‘maintenance.’
I was able to stay between 120-130 until I injured my hip in early November 2022 and regular exercise became more difficult. I moved out of my maintenance range on November 24, 2022 when I weighed-in at 130.5. I’ve been hovering between 130 and 135 since then, which feels fine in terms of general measures of health but my clothes are snug and I don’t feel as comfortable and energetic as I do at a slightly lower weight. I know the path forward is through improvements to my nutrition so I’m trying to increase my protein and eat less processed food. For me, it takes a while to cultivate new habits. So, I’m going to add more vegetables, fruit, beans, and other natural ingredients to my diet. I’m also working on cooking at home more and reducing my takeout orders by planning my meals better.
It’s not easy making the lifelong changes needed but it’s getting easier for me to stay patient through the ups and downs. There are no quick fixes - and it’s not a linear path forward - but I’m optimistic that we can find success with the support of this group. Best wishes, Shape Shifters!5 -
@Cre804 - I’m glad you’re not feeling too many symptoms and hope you recover quickly— and I also hope your husband finds relief through the antibiotic treatment. Rest well!2

Good morning Shape Shifters. Another boring day here with a near constant headache. I did laundry, worked on my puzzle and cuddled Tinus a lot. I read on my computer in the evening instead of in bed, so I didn't get to turn off my pc on time. That was fine with me though. I always overeat on Saturday, but I know I will get the weight off fast, so I am not too bothered about that either. As long as it is just one day, it's all good. Happy Sunday everyone2 -

I‘m pretty sure it’s mostly water weight because I took a break from keto last week and started eating carbohydrates again. Don’t like how it makes me feel, though, so I’m definitely going back to keto.2
