Today‘s card resonates a lot with me. I’m at a crossroad in my career… continue what I‘ve been doing for the last 15 years, what I‘m good at and am respected for in the industry I‘m working in OR doing something completely new, something that I always wanted to do but never had the guts to try. Deep down I feel that I need to give it a shot and it will all work out just fine. I hear that inner voice getting louder each day 😅
@Bumbinella
Oh, my vote is for the new thing! With 15 years of experience, you can always fall back on that old job if the new thing doesn't work out right? So I'd say go for it!2 -
Hello everyone!
I survived the two day drive to Houston. Gained 3 pounds, but lost 2.5. Ughh. Frustrating. The scale is bouncing all over still. Hopefully it will keep going down.
Buddy is loving the warmer weather here, but we are only planning on being here a week.
@PatriceFitnessPal I'm so sorry about your mom and Aunt. My parents still live independently, and my dad almost fell for a scam a couple years ago. He got an email about a large purchase on his Amazon credit card, which he never uses, and clicked on the link to dispute it and was told to purchase gift cards to clear the balance. He went to the local Kroger, bought $1000 in gift cards, and was starting to call this number to give them the card information, when the security guard saw what was happening and took my dad's phone to talk to the scammer. Not surprisingly, the fake Amazon representative hung up and my dad was able to return the gift cards.
One of the most scary things about the situation is that he fell for it and didn't tell my mom because he was embarrassed. To be fair, some of the emails look very genuine, but the gift card should have been a red flag. So, if it makes you feel better, your mom isn't the only one. Its so evil how people pray on the vulnerable. I hope they are able to catch the person.

@PatriceFitnessPal Unfortunately I see this all the time at the Post Office. We are a MoneyGram agent, which is similar to any agents that can wire money across the world.
We are trained to ask certain questions before sending money, and if we do not feel comfortable or think it might be a scam we can decline to send the money .If she would of found the number to call, they probably would of sent her to Western union or a Moneygram agent and they would of asked questions, and they would of recognized this scam right away, and stopped the transaction.
We encourage everyone to call that family member to see if they pick up and tell the same story.
We inform people to report it to the police, unfortunately most of these scams are preying on the elderly who if they report it (due to feeling embarrassed) nothing really gets done, because it takes too much man power to find the network of people who do this. It's a rather large business and they cover their tracks.
Educating ourselves and our family members, also our communities is the best way to stay informed on the many scam's out there.
Let your Mom know, not to be embarrassed. She was doing what she thought was right and helping a family member. I hope her stress goes down and she can be happy that they never got her money and everyone is safe!

@PatriceFitnessPal , I hadn't thought of it until @saveagemsmoose had said something. But a couple of years back I had went into the Walmart closest to me. In front of me was an older woman who seemed a bit slower in mental processing at the service desk. She handed the woman some money and some other stuff dealing with a call from the social security administration. Red flag right there as they won't call, they send out letters here, right? The woman insisted it was a legit transaction. The employee stated she couldn't do the transaction because it was a scam. The woman left, cursing the employee. If it hadn't been for an alert employee this woman would have lost her social security check or most of it I'm sure. Most of our seniors and disabled do not get much as far as monies in the first place or they have a very small nest egg put aside for a rainy day.4

Wow! 😱 Scary stories about all the scams out there, but it’s great that none of the perpetrators got away with it.
I appreciate all the supportive comments and reassurance for my Mom’s situation @Bumbinella, @SavageMrsMoose, @JenHul, and She told me the story today and she said she didn’t tell my (police detective) brother because she “didn’t want to hear it from him.”
Coincidentally, @JenHul, My mother worked for the Post Office for about 25 years. She started later in life (at 42 years old, I think) as a carrier and then moved in doors as a teller so she probably asked those same scam screening questions in the past! 🤷♀️ — I’m not sure she has the energy to pursue it since she’s mixing up many of the details but we’ll see. Anyway, all is well for now. Thanks again, everyone!5 -

Hi everyone, checking in. I'm back from my birthday weekend away. We had a good time, walked lots, ate lots too though..
I'm having a hard time getting back into my routine. I had it down before we left but for some reason it's a struggle. I do best with routine, I eat the same things for lunch most days, no snacks and a protein with a vegetable for dinner. Right now I want to snack, and not of nutritional foods of course. Candies, cookies, chips etc. Will power and water are the current attack plan.
I think it's because I feel like my plate is full again and I'm having a hard time making room for good nutrition and exercise.
I'm going to ramble through what's filling my plate - feel free to skip
1. my teeth - (for those that know my story with my middle child) the stress caused some serious tooth grinding and clenching. I have a night guard now, but I have managed to crack at least one tooth, maybe two now. I have crowned the one in the hopes of saving it, but now it needs a root canal too and is causing me lots of pain. The tooth is complicated to root canal so I need to wait for a specific specialist. My original appoint was May 15th, I've managed to get one for Friday this week instead. This tooth has been sore for more than a month already
2. My thyroid I had thyroiditis 2.5 years ago that caused a big spike in hormones being released that caused a very fast heart rate, massive head aches and shaking that lasted a couple weeks. Now I've had pain around my thyroid for the past couple months and I'm waiting to get a doctors appointment. I had an appointment scheduled for the end of February but they cancelled it the day before and now it's booked for the end of March. There is a huge family Doctor shortage where I live. I know it's not thyroiditis again, but I'm at risk of developing an underactive thyroid now.
3. My middle child is back in hospital again, she hasn't actually told me. I know because someone else has informed me. I'm not going to tell her I know, I want to respect her privacy. If she wanted me to know she would tell me. I've texted with her a couple times, but she keeps it short and very direct answers only, not interested in engaging. I'm ok with that, that is her choice and I can respect that. I hope that she can find a way to help herself and accept the help she is offered.
4. We are designing a new house (YAY!!) it is stressful though. We are building a house on my parents lot that we purchased from them a couple years ago. We are building this house for them and us to live in. My parents need help, and it is difficult to merge our two families together. I'm not building a house with a granny suite, I don't want a house that is essentially 2 houses. Now we have to figure out ways to design the house that works for everyone.
If you read this far, thank you. Hopefully writing it out will help me find some more room on my plate for nutrition and exercise.9 -

@CasandraW
Happy belated birthday! I am glad to hear you had a good time. I have the same with routine. I like going to dinner with my dad Saturday and I like getting my mom over again, but at the same time I really hate that it throws my entire routine on its head. It is much easier for me to eat healthy if I figure out a good food plan and just do the same every day. When I struggle to get back on track, I try to just plan in more (unhealthy) snacks, but I make sure it still fits my calories. Of course eating healthy and within calories is best, but if I know both isn't an option, I rather drop the healthy part of it. As long as you can eat within a deficit, you will still lose weight without exercise! Sometimes life happens and priorities shift for a while. I hope you can work it out.
Thank you for sharing your struggles. I am very glad to hear that you got the appointment with your dentist moved up. Being in pain all day is awful so hopefully you will be painfree Friday. The waiting list to see a doctor however is insane and unacceptable to me. Cancelling so late and then move it a month! Utterly nuts. Is it possible to go further away for a doctors visit in the future? I am glad that they always seem to have room fast where I live. Usually the next day, always within a week and if they think it is serious, the same day.
The house designing sounds a lot of fun! And yes, stressful too. It is very normal here for kids to move out when they are 18 and when parents need help, they will usually move someplace with assisted living. I have always found cultures where families stay together in a big house very interesting. I think what you are doing will be much more comfortable for your parents and ease the mind of the family because you can keep an eye on them. Good luck in designing something that everyone will be happy with and hang in there with your daughter.2 -

Good morning Shape Shifters. I left my house around 7:15 to go for a walk in the forest. It was pretty cold again. Though I wore different clothes and I even put on a coat this time, I was still cold! Not as bad as last week thankfully. The weather wasn't really pretty for pictures, but I had a good time. I saw 3 deer (mostly white heart-shaped butts as they ran away from me) but otherwise nothing fancy. I relaxed the rest of the day, played a game, had Tinus on my lap a lot. I have been obsessed with this song for the past couple of days. https://youtu.be/s_nc1IVoMxc I think it is very relatable for a lot of people. I had an early night and slept well. Happy Thursday everyone3 -

Beautiful photos @Pupowl
Still in Houston, taking care of miscellaneous appointments. Got new front doors installed yesterday- the old ones had a decorative design which was separating in the direct sunlight- not very sturdy. New ones are metal.
Went to do a 4 mile easy run before the workers came. The garmin still had the speed workout scheduled so I did my best. It was really hard, but I did 1 mile at a 9:01 pace! Very pleased. I still managed to get some bike riding in so I'm still on track for my year long challenge.
Another couple days of the same and we plan on driving back to Colorado Monday. Hopefully, I won't gain 3 pounds this time!
Have a great Thursday everyone!

@jessicakrall8 , here's my delayed weigh in for this week:
Pw: 224.6
Cw: 220.8
As far as my cold, my energy started coming back some Tuesday. I was able to run errands yesterday. I did lose my voice, what I get for talking whilst sick, right? But it's back. I still have congestion but it's way better than what I've had this week.5 -
@izzyred9400 - Thanks for the reminder about focusing on our positive attributes on International Women’s Day! Although we have a long way to go in terms of economic, political, and social equality, I think people are getting better at recognizing women’s contributions and are more willing to negotiate a more balanced path forward.
@Bumbinella - I’m so glad to hear you are gaining clearer insight on your decision. I’m at a similar crossroads (at an older age) so I’m trying to bring the two roads together into a softer ‘merge’ but it’s taking longer than I expected because of some detours. It’s great that you are finding a way to take a calculated and planned risk to pursue your field of interest. 🎉🎉🎉
I’m gradually working past my detours. My husband was eager to make home renovations, which are dragging on longer than planned but should wrap up within the next month. I spent unanticipated time providing family support and care to relatives, which felt like the right decision but took time from my business. I still have some grief to work through because of the death of my dear cousin, the daughter of a family friend, our fun and loyal dog, etc…, but the family member who has been in crisis is more stable now and we’re building a circle of support so I suspect I will more into more of a secondary role of providing love, encouragement, and limited accountability.
My website development project hit another snag because the city’s Small Business Development Center decided to change vendors due to the poor performance of the previous team. I’ve been limited by the delays but I hope I can improve the content I’ve been preparing on my end since I’ve seen the way the first website developers interpreted (and sometimes misinterpreted) the material I shared with them. I’m going to make some improvements during the transition time being lost as the new vendor gets ‘up and running.’
Because my husband’s business is more profitable at the moment, I’ve been giving some attention to the minutiae of business administration for his company to free up his time for more of the substantive content and relationship building. I’ve been taking on more of the mental energy for compliance and coordination with the accountant, bookkeepers, payroll, and retirement managers. He seems to enjoy business lunches and creative work while I manage the mental load of guiding our adult children (who work a few hours each week for his company) so I guess this all underscores the need for International Women’s Day 😂🤣😂 but I realize he probably feels more pressure to act as family ‘provider.’
So, I’m looking forward to building my own business so we can feel more balanced. My work is rewarding and meaningful so I can definitely live with less money but could really use the kind of support I’m currently giving my husband. I’m trying to get better at expressing my own needs so that’s going to be my intentional practice for this month (or more).5 -
@Pupowl Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it.
@PatriceFitnessPal that's a lot. I feel your situation, our husbands sound like they are similar. I gave up my career to support his and take care of the kids. I take care of the organizing, bookkeeping and quoting for him now. I keep flip flopping back and forth if I want to do something of my own. His business is more profitable then anything I would do, and I have the responsibility of taxi driver for our youngest still. Unfortunately taxi driver cannot be a shared responsibility.
I hope you find success in growing your business, it can be very rewarding.
@SavageMrsMoose you are a rockstar! I love reading your running and cycling success.
