Today, I was leading a group session about alleviating some of the stress that comes with end-of-year statewide assessments. The staff and students are all feeling it — and so are the graduate students we work with from the masters and doctoral programs.
I showed a portion of the video below, How to Make Stress Your Friend, which led to some good conversation and ideas we can put into practice. So, I thought I’d share it with our group in case anyone is interested. The full video is 15 minutes long but the first 7 minutes convey good points so I think even half the time is well spent. Here’s a link to the TED talk:

Greetings, I'm new for the May challenge, let's Go!
I won't break your stride for April though, so I'll be back on April 30th to start properly.
Not much to say about myself, I'm heading into age 50 with an empty nest and 3 house cats. I think I'm fitting an archetype. I know having a group will really help me stay on track. I have about 60lbs to lose, prediabetes, hypertension, heart issue, just the middle age starter pack I guess. I'm about to progress to the level where I know my doctors hobbies and the name of his dog. I'm pretty much retired because of my health issues but paint landscapes, take photographs, tell stories, and make illustrations. I started in art at around age 5 with my Mom who was an artist, and then my daughter became a professional artist so it's kinda a family gig! I'm eternally curious about everything and really like people but have fairly bad agoraphobia and social anxiety so it's always at war with each other I suppose. My family has a history of moving to, exploring and existing in very remote places that are extremely isolated so... I think I inherited that also. I live on the edge of a 7 mile woods. I spend a lot of time watching critters and writing and illustrating stories and painting. Well cheers everyone! Hope I can add to the vibe and kick off the next phase for the shape shifters!8 -
@CasandraW Thanks!
@PatriceFitnessPal Thank you! I also find it hard to be motivated. That is why I ordered the plants already, before I had even started clearing the area. It has come to bite me in the butt a little bit because I got an email that they will be here this morning!!! In like 2,5 hours! I had a good sleep and I just finished some more work in the garden. I think I will just leave the plants in their pots today and put them in the ground tomorrow. Otherwise it will be way too much. We also get a lot of rain on Friday, so the timing will be nice. Though I really wasn't expecting to get the plants this quick. Oh well...

Welcome and thank you for the nice introduction! Another crazy cat lady. It sounds like you live in a lovely area, I love the woods. If you ever want to share your art or pictures, I am sure we would all love to see them. Good luck on your journey.4 -
Here is the card for today. Happy Wednesday everyone4

A little update on the garden. I still need to tidy up a lot along the fence, but I have enough space for the new plants. Those aren't the spots they will be in, just wanted to get them out of the box because it is going to rain. The tiny tree is a viburnum called Tinus! How fun is that (my cat is called Tinus if you didn't know yet). I might do some more weeding today, put in plants tomorrow and then hopefully I can show what it looks like when it is finished. Besides the tinus plant, I also got oregano, eryngo, globe thistles, goldenrods and 3 different colors of coneflowers.

Good Morning everyone!
I’m starting out in May with this group! I’m super excited! I’ve been trying this on my own for a while but really miss the accountability a group environment brings. A little bit about myself, I’ve just hit my mid 40s and I’m also almost at my highest weight outside of my pregnancies. I’m really struggling with consistency and meal planning. I work full time and I’m a mom of busy active children. In the past few years I switched from a moderate active job to a desk job and my body is really feeling the effects of the sedentary lifestyle. I tend to put exercise last and therefore am usually too tired to go walking or work out. I love the outdoors and I’m really looking forward to spring—when it decides to really show up!

@ Itadakimasu7 nice to meet you! I’ll be starting on this journey with you. I just have to say-I love your humor—that you’re almost at the level of knowing your doctor’s hobbies and dog’s name. Here we go, on this journey! Looking forward to meeting goals!4

Just finished the garden work for now. I still need to tidy up a bit around the lavender, but I don't have any tree bark left. Maybe I will get some more with my dad next week so I can finish that little bit. Quite happy with the rest of it though, but it was exhausting.3

Hi all. I was told to introduce myself here. A little about me: I'm a Washington, DC resident (hence my nickname DCRESIDER) and a recent early retiree at 53 as of January of this year. While I've been enjoying my downtime, it seems menopause and the sedentary lifestyle has affected my weight so it's time to reboot. I've gained about 15 lbs. the last couple of years and as a petite gal, every pound over shows on my body. I can't wait for this challenge and this group accountability.
Current exercise: 2-3x a week HITT exercises but not consistent with my workouts, so would like to do more. I used to run and strength train too, and would like to start that up again as a May challenge.
Diet: I'm a foodie and I like my wine but have recently limited my alcohol intake, increased water, and increased by protein intake, and started to track my macros.
Today: I have a 25 minute HITT workout scheduled, then I may have a short run.6 -
Welcome @dcresider! Congratulations on your retirement! I live nearby in Alexandria, VA and spend a lot of time in DC for work. It’s always great to have new members!3

hi everyone! i'm Val and i've been on mfp for many many years on and off but never seen a fun group initiative like this. i'm super excited to join and see how things go!
about me - i'm on the west coast of canada and work full-time in marketing/communications. 100% remote which means stretchy pants and proximity to my kitchen hasn't done me any favours - hence the return to mfp!
i'm a super slow runner but i love running and indoor cycling, lets be honest - it's an opportunity to shop for cute gear! i also love coffee and can't get enough.
some food habits i'm working on - 1. tracking each day (my diary is open and i'd love more friends with open diaries, for inspo never judgey) 2. break my sweet food addiction. i say sweet not sugar because i've tried the zero cal/stevia foods etc.. and it doesn't work for me 3. stop eating at 730pm

Hi @PatriceFitnessPal - Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad there's someone near me.3
-
@ganival, send me a fr. I do the open diary as well, and use my diary to help me meal plan and prep.
Spring rains today yall. Tenderness in the joints. Or as I've always heard, rain bones predicted.3 -
@pupowl LOVE today's card and your garden/yard looks amazing! I love the metal art on the fence...gorgeous!
Hope everyone had a great Friday Eve today! My day was too busy, but productive. Pushed myself on walking today, but garmin defaults to running when I speed walk on the treadmill...trust me...it's always walking.
No choice but to eat out today, but I did ok on choices and calories...
Tomorrow is Friday...WHEW!!! Can't wait for the weekend to begin!!

@jessicakrall8 Thank you! Could you excuse me from weigh in this week? I hope you have a nice weekend.2
