Shape Shifters Team Chat - APRIL 2023

@dcresider Welcome! You and I are both the same age and I'm recently retired as well. I split my time between Houston and Colorado. I love my wine too- and to run -albeit not super fast. As a heavier runner, I always feel like I'm a bit of an imposter at races, but I'm getting better about this one.
@ganival Welcome also! What type of indoor cycle do you have ? I'm addicted to my Peloton. There is a group bike challenge on MFP to ride 2023 miles in 2023. You can join at any time. I didn't ride that much last year, so I made it 2022 KM instead. Very motivating. I'll hunt for the link and post it.
The group step challenge is good for runners. Which reminds me- Can I re-join for May? I'd like to keep it at 10000 steps. Easy on running days. Not easy on bike days.
Ugh. The part I've been avoiding - the weekly weigh-in.

Total gain of 2 pounds for the month of April so could be worse.
I know some of this is water weight as I weighed a few times on hotel scales on my trip and my husband found them to read HIGHER than the home one, but here we are. Hopefully that means I'll have a few good weigh ins in my future!
Have a great weekend everyone!

@SavageMrsMoose - I’m glad you’re feeling less like an imposter at races lately. Good for you! I think overcoming our self-criticism is half the battle in losing weight and improving our health. We have to see ourselves as people who are worthy of the best care, and deserve to treat ourselves well. 😍
Your message got me thinking about why I like the ShapeShifter team members so much. We have different goals, shapes, sizes, drivers, and constraints; but, we support one another to reach our individual goals. We’re in this F2F challenge together but we’re each running our own race.
To me, if you run, you are a runner 💪. Besides, when I look at runners at a track meet, I see athletes of all sizes. It’s amazing what the human body can accomplish, isn’t it?!
For me, specifically, it takes me a bit longer to reach my goals than it seems to take others. I think I over analyze everything 🧐🤔🤨 — that’s three emojis for three times the analysis! Still, they say “slow and steady wins the race” and I don’t even care about winning it. I’ve accepted my slower nature in terms of decision making, writing, and habit building. I just want to finish my ‘race’ — to learn how to sustain my weight within the healthiest range. Still working on it!!5 -
Sorry for posting a day late again. This is my Thursday weigh in report. I just forgot to post it here:

Hello everyone and @Pupowl love the daily card. I want to conjure up a healthy lifestyle and weight loss and possible moving to Portugal in a few years. Can it happen? Not sure yet.
I'm holding myself accountable by posting daily. It's a rainy blustery day here in DC. Hubby and I were being very lazy today and ended up booking a 5 days trip to Banff, Canada in late September. I've always wanted to go and the trip will be very outdoorsy and active which I'm excited about. After watching a ton of Youtube vids it was time for me to go down and workout. After a quick change (and a look at the mirror - YIKES !- okay trying to stay positive), I knew what I had to do.
Exercise for today: 5 upper body strength training for 25 minutes, 30 minute hill workout on the treadmill, and because as an aging adult, I had to stretch afterwards which felt amazing.
Food: So far so good on sticking to my 1450 calories and protein intake. However, the day is not over yet.

Apologies, I haven't caught up on all the messages. It's been a bit of a busy but good week. I got enough sleep but didn't track food and didn't get any weight lifting sessions in. Hope you are all keeping well and I'll try to catch up soon!3 -
@SavageMrsMoose I use Zwift! I have a bike set up on a Wahoo Kickr. There are lots of fun group rides to join, worlds to explore but I love to set up custom workouts then zone out to Netflix or YouTube.
Peloton bikes look soooo cool and I hear they have great instructors and music!SavageMrsMoose wrote: »

Please welcome another eager new member - @dancingonstarz should be here soon!
Welcome @dancingonstarz to the Shape Shifters Team. Take a few minutes and introduce yourself and go back to pg 1 of this thread and read our FAQ which should answer most of your questions. Anything else, just ask. If you're a walker/running, please think about signing up for our Step Challenge. You'll read more about that in the FAQ. We have weekly group challenges that start every Sunday and run through Saturday. They're always different and have members from all five of the Fat2Fit teams. Nice time to make new friends and stay motivated. I'll be posting the link for next week's tomorrow afternoon.
On behalf of myself, @Pupowl and @PatriceFitnessPal , again WELCOME!!! We're glad you're here!
Good luck in May and beyond!

@Pupowl @jessicakrall8 can you excuse me for the next 2 weeks please. We started our drive to Orlando this morning and I forgot to weigh before leaving.
It wasn’t a great drive, lots of rain. Rain, rain rain.
We drove from Ontario Canada, through Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and are now in North Carolina

The May team chat is now open! Please continue to weigh in and post stats for this week here through the end of Saturday. Go ahead to the new chat to post (re)introductions, goals, and commitments for the new month:

Only a tiny loss but I'm pleased as I haven't had the best of weeks. As @Pupowl card says "I can do the thing ! " time to get back to good habits & less wine.Which may be difficult as its a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK.Unusually the sun is out, next week we have another extra bank holiday for the Coronation of King Charles.👑
@Pupowl please can you add me to the Step Challenge for May please 15000 steps a day.5 -
@izzyred9400
I think you did pretty good with your steps! Sometimes we need a bit of a break, nothing wrong with that. Adjusting after a holiday is never easy. Got you down for May again. Also, a lot of research has been done about step count, and you already get most of the benefits if you walk at least 7500 steps a day. More doesn't hurt of course, but around +16.000 steps a day, the benefits drop off.2 -

Hoping this means I’m back on track. I didn’t lose as much as I’d hoped this month, but I’m sure there will be periods like that. It’s been an odd month - lots of extended car travel and an injured lev that limited activity for a while. Looking forward to May and dropping below 220! 😊4 -
@izzyred9400 and @Jlswensen - Good job on the loss. A small loss is still a loss!
@pupowl - I like the simplicity of today’s card. I feel motivated by the message on today’s card, and also yesterday’s card, to accomplish some household tasks this weekend. Thanks for taking the time to post the card each day!
The research on steps is interesting to learn. It will help me set some goals as I get closer to joining the monthly challenges in the future. I appreciate your insights!2 -

Guys, I seem to be stuck. The scale really hasn’t moved much in the past few weeks. I’m doing everything right; I am working out much more because I’m training for my audition, but other than that, I can’t figure it out. Trying not to be discouraged 🫤3 -

This month has been crazy busy, but I finally got back into the gym three times this week. My schedule was way off, so I went on different days and different times. The weather has been nice this week, so my husband and I were able to pick-up the youngest from preschool on our bikes.

Again, steps are low - weather has been iffy in WI & now rain for the next 3 days along with highs in 40s - avg is supposed to be 62° - kinda depressing - I was going to walk in the pancreatic cancer walk this morning for my husband, but it's pouring rain when it was to start so I met up with 2 friends we grabbed coffee picked up our shirts and went home2 -
