HOW IT ALL WORKS: The August challenge runs for 5 weeks, from July 30 - September 2. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Welcome to August 2023!
This is our home for the month, where all of our joys and challenges take place. Please (re)introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month and the new year. Focus on the small every day choices, and you will get where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86 . I live in rural Québec, and I'm a retired university professor of music. It was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise. As of October 2022, I hit 10 years on maintenance, always refining and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link and how-to info are under "Announcements" on the main F2F page. Or just jump to it here:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10895990/habit-tracker-august-2023#latest
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. Let the chatting roll!1 -

Aloha!! Please feel free to call me Toni. Antonia is my Italian mother’s tribute to her brother Anthony. I am 62 years old and I’ve been retired for two years. We live on the Island of Hawaii, better known as the Big Island. It’s very easy to fall into the much slower island pace of living and that translates into visiting neighbors, talking story and eating. By the way, Spam and rice is delicious.
My goals are simple. I want to lose some weight, become more active and enjoying my retirement.
Thanks for having me.

Wow, it's the August challenge. This is my 2 year anniversary with the team!
I'm Courtney, 42, married, step mom to an 18yo and the smothering mom of 3 cats. I'm a Civil Servant with the government of Canada, working a desk job after years of a physical shift work position with an airline. I'm adjusting to the office lifestyle but I stay active with landscaping projects and playing hockey.
I've been a yo-yo dieter my whole adult life after a very athletic childhood. My problem is always portion control. I don't have a sweet tooth, and I'm usually pretty good about not bringing junk into the house unless I'm expecting company or having a weak moment. I've lost 50lbs with the support of MFP tracking and this team. I would like to lose another 10-15 lbs and get more strength and better cardio recovery to be able to play sports at a higher level and keep my mobility as I age. I'm currently dealing with an injury to my thumb that's limiting my activities and I'm very prone to tendonitis so I need to be careful. With my portion control issues I'm fearful that I'm one injury away from having to slow down on the physical activity and then I would have to slash my calories to not rebound.
This is the longest I've ever been able to keep the weight off but I've seen it in all of my female family members. A knee injury leads to weight gain, almost without fail. I want to stay active but need to be careful!
My goals for August are to up my water and fibre intake, and to obey the physiotherapist! I'm not going to get back to logging just yet. Soon!
Welcome new team members! Can't wait to get to know you.
This IS our community @micki48, you are my people and know I'm here to listen, commiserate, and cheer alongside you. The support and acceptance with accountability is what's this work. ❤️😁6 -

Hello August! Wow, this summer and year are flying. Since I started a new job in early May, it almost feels like the earlier parts of this year, at a job I despised, were a fever dream.
I'm Kay, 28, living in Boston and working in finance downtown. I struggle with binge eating, which is the result of a restrict/binge cycle that started in my early college years, and an all-or-nothing mindset where I can throw in the towel on a given day or week very easily if I get slightly off track. I joined this group initially in Aug 2020 and then dipped out for a bit in 2021, came back, and dipped again for most of 2022. I am near my highest weight ever but looking back on the last few months, my movement has been really consistent week to week which I want to pat myself on the back for. I am still healing some tendonitis in my right foot, but I'm lucky to have alternative options for exercise that are not on my feet, namely kayaking on the Charles River, swimming all year round at my apartment building's indoor pool, and using the FitOn app which has tons of videos in the "low impact" category.
My goals for August are:
1. Monitor my protein intake on a normal week - I've never really tracked macros (and now that feature is only available in MFP pro or whatever the paid version is) but I am working with a weight management specialist and she was really pushing protein, throughout the day, on me in our last chat. I want to see where I land naturally, and then perhaps add in more sources + a protein powder in the fall if I am really short.
2. Be a little more consistent with strength training day (1 per week for now but potentially upping to 2 days by end of the month)
3. Increase water intake on the days I work from home - I have a really big water bottle at work that I have 2-3 full turns of but I drink way less at home on Thurs/Fri.
4. Try to check in here at least 1 more time per week outside my weigh-in post on Fridays.
My habit tracker for last month was about 50% there I would say, which is fine for the first month back with this group. I've kept some of those habits and switched some out. Getting up in the morning with my alarm has been a constanttttt struggle as some of you may recall me saying before, so trying to be more strict with that.
I just got home from 88 min of active paddling on the river plus a picnic lunch amongst the lily pads. The humidity finally broke with a big storm last night (I LOVE watching lightning from my small patio), but temps are still pretty high (85F right now).
About to swing into some meal prep for the week. Happy Sunday all and welcome to the new folks!5 -
Hi
Hi Waistaways!
I'm Ellie, 45 years old and married mum to 3 teenage boys. I'm with Waistaways for a long time. Lately I'm up and down and up again. Here's hoping it will go really down in August.
This photo is my Before photo and hopefully it will motivate me to carry on.
At the moment we are on holidays so Liselyn can I please record
CW at STS 227.7 lbs
@jugar
Have a lovely week everyone ❤️7 -
Hello everyone!
My name is Lauren, I am 37 years old and I live in NC. I have been obese almost all of my adult life and I have tried losing weight several times. I end up gaining any weight that I lost back. I have been with this team for at least a year and a half.
I am super proud of myself this past month and hope to carry this momemtum into August. I am currently visiting my family in RI and it is so hard to make smart choices when all the bad choices are in front of you. I will say, this is probably the best I have ever done visiting my parents.
My goals for August are to continue tracking every day and to increase my water intake. Some days are better than others, but I really need to make this a priority.
I hope everyone has a great month and welcome to all the new folks!6 -
Here are my step and exercise stats for the last 7 days:
Sunday 23rd July - 2431
Monday 24th - 6200 / 35 mins Caroline Girvan Fuel programme, Day 15 - Dynamite Dumbbells & Burpees
Tuesday 25th - 6034
Wednesday 26th - 5969
Thursday 27th - 15663
Friday 28th - 1977
Saturday 29th - 3137 / 40 mins CG Fuel Day 16 - Superset Quads
I love working out, but I've been having a hard time this week, for some reason, getting myself into gear this week and feeling enthused about what I'm doing.
I'm also feeling a little low - I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago and I'm having a really hard time dealing with that number. I think that I'm feeling a bit like you, Michele @micki48. I told hubby, but he doesn't really get it. He was very pragmatic and said all the right things, but I don't think he really gets it.
Looking forward for this week, I am going to focus on logging and water intake.
TTFN Friends!

Hi team, August already eh?
I was one of the folks that had July go by in a whirlwind. It was my worst month for checking in here, I got lost in busyness, and I have a lot to build on for August. I am left wondering where the month went and what the progress was (or the damage?) Checking back now I see I lost 0.8 pounds in July which can be called nothing more than a lucky break. Ready to get back to a focused version of myself.
I am your co-captain with @jugar and I look after the step challenge. I took an unintended break for most of July and I apologize for being so delinquent - I am not someone who drops commitment easily but something gave. Anyway, my apologies for not keeping up with the level of commitment of my lovely steppers and for being absent as your co-captain. I read every post.
My main goal for August is to check in here again regularly. I am also working intensely on my mental health with my new therapist and I'm feeling really positive about that. I lost the weight but I haven't fixed my mind and those are the issues that I really need to work on.
Of course I'd also like to make some progress on weight loss in August. That isn't going to happen if I'm not tracking, exercising, drinking my water, and looking after myself. So, I'll be working on that as well.
Interesting theme that a few are struggling with milestone birthdays and the significance of what that means in each of your lives... understand that those are some complex feelings. I know Brad just turned 50 earlier this year and that one was important for him.
We also have so many team members that I'd like to welcome.. thanks for your intro @Antonia2050 .. also happy anniversary @PlaneMonkey .. your consistency and the way you've managed maintenance at your current range is inspiring. Also wanted to congratulate @lauren_989 for a green month despite the challenges of being in old environments that used to be more challenging.
Let's make August great!8 -

I also love how realistic you are - not all days are great. Tracking helps. Water helps. Making this a priority is important. Great lessons for all. Thank you!
For those of you who are new - you will see in the results that there are losses by % and losses by pounds. You'll see that the person who loses the most pounds is not necessarily the person who lost the most by body weight percentage. We always use % as the first indicator of how anyone is doing. It is easier to lose more pounds when starting at your highest weight, and we feel discouraged when we lose less and less as time goes by. If you look by percentage, though - you might feel pretty danged good! Steady 1% losses per week are fabulous.

Heyyyyyyyy team ! I'm Vikki, been here on and off for yeesh almost 3 years, I lost almost 30lbs the 1st time I took this seriously, but gained most of it back. I am 51, and have been struggling to lose weight pretty much my whole life, I was successful in losing it and keeping it off for about 10 years, from 30ish to 40ish. So I know it's possible.
I am married, and work full time doing accounting so I am sitting alot. I need to change that. You see in 2020 I had this great vacation planned, and I got in fairly decent shape for it, then covid happened, and it just killed my motivation, then I had back /neck surgery. So exercise fell off completely, and I just haven't been able to get back to it.
Just 2 weeks ago, I rebooked that vacation, although it is slightly different this time. This one is an active tour, where we will be hiking 5-6 miles daily for 8 days, so I have 9 months to increase my stamina, cause if not, it will be my last vacation as I will likely die of exhaustion... kidding, I won't die, but it will be HARD, and I don't want it to be.
Anyway, my goal for August is to be present, to lose a little weight and to build a foundation of exercise, to increase weekly.
So this week I am going to commit to doing a 10 minute of my video every day. (they are leslie sansone walk away the pounds, which is like low impact aerobics)

@jugar Can I rejoin for August, please? I fell off due to family stuff and a ton of travel earlier this summer. I'm ready to hop back on the healthy train!4
-
@Gidgitgoescrzy You are going to love that hiking vacation! Get out walking asap. Start easy - then add fun things like hills, rough ground, maybe a weighted vest or wrist weights - you have a good amount of time to get ready. Where will you be going?3

Thanks @jugar!

Hello all! I'm Adrianne, 46 yr old mom to a 12 year old, married, work from home. My life and routines have changed a lot in the last 3 years and I am trying to create a new normal that supports my health goals.
Both my parents have/had heart issues, kidney problems, and diabetes. I've been advised maintaining a healthy weight, being active, and managing inflammation are my best tools to combat my genetics. I want to be a vibrant and active old lady!
I have done a lot of fun traveling this year but it's made it hard to get into a good routine. That is my focus for the month of August.6 -
Greeting Team!
I'm Kat and this is my first time participating. I'm 38 and live in California as a government worker, working on a journey to get fit by 40 (15 months). I've not been very motivated the past two months so decided to try something to add accountability. My high weight was 258, so down 15lbs so far, but have a lot more to go!
Weigh In Day: Monday
PW (Previous Weight): 243
CW (Current Weight): 243
My goals for August are to actually move the scale downwards (5+ lbs would be amazing), track every day - even when I don't make the goals, and to get moving (5 workouts a week).7 -
@Gidgitgoescrzy You are going to love that hiking vacation! Get out walking asap. Start easy - then add fun things like hills, rough ground, maybe a weighted vest or wrist weights - you have a good amount of time to get ready. Where will you be going?
We are going to Ireland. I plan to start actual hiking when the weather gets a little bit better, No need to practice in 90+degree/75% humidity weather, it is just quite nasty here right now.4 -
Welcome @littlemzkitty .. those goals sound very reasonable! Congrats on the first 15 ... that is a great milestone to build off of!4
-
This Monday really felt like one - so tired at work today. I have to try to get to sleep earlier than midnight.
I just finished a 35 min walk and beat the rain but my foot is hurting worse than it has in months so that's disappointing. Gonna ice and compress with dinner.
@Gidgitgoescrazy that sounds like a very intense vacation!5
