    Good Morning Airport Friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and for me it is going to be a good day. I have work today and things are going well at work. My husband however I believe has caught a stomach bug. Lots of cramping and stuff and does not want to eat anything. This started last night. He is going to try and make it through work, we will see how it goes. I may have to leave work early to take care of him. If not and he can make it through the whole day I can see him not really wanting to eat anything for dinner tonight. I am glad he is getting this over with before the Holiday though. It would be rough if he was sick over the Holiday. Today I am getting my Flu vaccine. That is probably going to knock me down for a day or two. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not.

@CSEGUIN2 - I hope you do have placement by then, but I do know even if you don't it will not be long that you get something. You test scores are high and that always looks good.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - It does happen. It isn't talked about really so people don't know how to help. I always try to educate people on how to help. I took a course with the Suicide Coalition which made me QPR certified on how to recognize someone in crisis and get them help. That was probably one of the best things I could have done.

Well I hope you all have a great Tuesday.

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Wednesday and it is going to be a great day. I am hoping so. Joe is feeling a bit better. We believe he has Norovirus. That is a type of stomach bug. He did a telehealth with the doc and they took him out of work until Thursday. We are hoping that does not cause too much issue since he is within his 90 days of work, but we will figure things out if it does affect it.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - It was an in person training that I did with the Pride Organization I was a part of. As you know a lot of LGBTQ+ people have depression and are more prone to suicide because they are not accepted. So we took a course and learned to Question, Persuade, and Refer. QPR. I hope some day with what I have learned I can save someone's life or at least help them to get help.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday.

Good afternoon, everyone! It's a beautiful sunny day here today. My daughter says hello to all. She is working at her part time jobs today. Both budgie birds are doing well and say cheep, cheep! I did my strength training workout earlier this morning and I really enjoyed it. I went for a walk after lunch and I feel great! I'll be doing some dancing later on. I played bingo this afternoon and I won a few games. Have a great day, everyone! Take care and stay safe.

    Good Morning Airport Friends;

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Thursday and it is going to be a great day. Next week is Thanksgiving and then the week after that Joe and I are going to the Borgess Bariatric Surgery Center. Joe and I are not doing the Bariatric Surgery, but they also do a lot of other things. We will meet with someone who will run a ton of bloodwork and try to pinpoint the reason we are not losing weight. They will then design a weight loss program with foods and exercise to try and help us lose weight and work with us to tweak it as we start losing weight. Joe and I both agree that surgery will be the last resort. I am concerned about the surgery as all my friends that have done it have had some sort of issue after surgery requiring transfusions. So that has me scared. Like really scared.

Well I hope you all have a great Thursday.

Hey all - I'm still around. Things have not been going well. Part of it is, I need to keep up my calorie deficit, but this time of year is rough. Even though I don't go to parties etc, there are always things tempting me. Also being small with a light frame I need to stay under 1500 calories or so to lose ANYTHING and it's easy to get fatigued at that level.

So I'm thinking I want to recomp for a while. I need more muscle anyway since I lost too much during the initial part of my weight loss. My body didn't need as much muscle to carry it around and I didn't work hard enough to maintain it even though my protein levels were okay. What I'd love advice on is this - does anyone have suggestions for exercise equipment that doesn't make a ton of noise, isn't super expensive, and doesn't suck?

I had a mini pedaler but that gave up the ghost, also I always had to brace it against something. I have a mini stepper but that is super boring to use and is now unacceptably squeaky. I found something that was sort of like a skiier-glider, folded up, and was affordable, but looks like it doesn't have resistance so I'll "grow out of it" pretty fast. I'm going to look into YouTube videos for cardio as I don't have much space and can't go out for walks except for shopping. Circumstances. Also thinking about getting another set of exercise bands, though again that needs a good place to anchor them (even a good door) but of course my office door opens inwards!

I DO have weights, at least some of them, so am using them more. A little more muscle will help marginally and eventually increase my metabolism by a little bit. Anything helps. I figured I'd come here because Thankgiving is loomng and I might get a bit of advice, at least.

    @Sand_TIger

I tried all sorts of 'work out from home' things to build muscle, but I just couldn't hit my groove with anything. I've been a gym member most of my life, but had dropped it at the beginning of the pandemic. Bad choice for me - up 50 pounds in 3 years. Some of the things I tried at home - dumb bells, several different online programs (peleton weight classes, beach body, Caroline Girvan, others), exercise bands, body weight exercises, etc.). I bought a peloton bike (love it!!) and that works great for cardio, but it doesn't provide that 'lift heavy' needed for women.
But anyway .... I joined a different gym this time (Planet Fitness) shortly after I started my first 5% challenge. Cheap - no classes that I didn't need. The machines are the best thing for starting out. Easy on the joints. You might need a personal trainer to get started, but find one that will teach you how to progress, not just blindly follow them. Otherwise you become dependent on them.
The other thing is just consistency. I've been following James Clears ideas in Atomic Habits. I set a schedule for myself and always go to the gym on gym days. Even if I go and just sit there. It's about the habit.

@Tabatha_Cain, Please let us know how the center helps. Maybe i should work with a dietician again.

@sgod50, Great advice to @Sand_TIger , I've used the heavy resistant bands with much success in the past. Though this is cardio it helped so much with this,, hoola hoops!! Tightened up my abdominal muscles very much so. YouTube and other sites have a lot of free videos.

sgod50 - thanks for the suggestions! At this point if I had to join a gym I wouldn't ever want to go there often enough to make a difference. Today I cleaned up my office some and loaded up my EZ-bar and dumbbells so got a pretty decent upper body workout, so there's that. Since I noticed that I want to exercise more when watching hypertrophy focused YouTube channels I started doing that more. Lead a horse to water...

    Good Morning Airport Friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Saturday. I am taking Joe back to the doctor. He is still having issues from being ill this past week. So back to the doctor we go. I love that my doctor has weekend hours. That is so cool. I can even see my doctor on Sunday's. They do charge a fee for after hours care but my insurance usually pays that because the fee is less than the charge the urgent care or emergency room would be. They like when we go to our doctor rather than a hospital.

@Sand_TIger - I struggle with having my calories in place as well. I often over eat. I find with my body anything over 800 calories and I am gaining weight. They are sending me to a specialist in weight loss. It is the Borgess Bariatric Surgery Center, but they don't just do the bariatric surgeries. They have medical weight loss as well. They will run a lot of blood work and are suppose to find out exactly what is causing me to not be able to lose weight and help me develop a plan of exercise and foods to eat that will encourage weight loss. I am really excited to go. But as far as exercise right now mostly I walk when I can. I try not to do much strength exercises because I have tennis elbow in my right arm and if I aggravate that I have to have surgery on it. I have not found any equipment that is not expensive. I wish I could be of more help.
@sgod50 - I used to do Beachbody On Demand. I miss it terribly. The price got really bad though. I could not afford it anymore. That was the only home program I really connected with. Planet Fitness in our town is a joke. Things getting stolen out of lockers and people being harrassed. It is horrible.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - I will let you know what I find out. I know they are going to do a lot of blood work and we have our first appt November 29th. I can update you after that.

Well I hope you all have a great day.

Tabatha_Cain 800 cals? Wow. That's pretty amazing - and pretty hard to stay under. Sounds like your body is really efficient at staying alive? My basal metabolic rate is probably around 1200-1300, I think it may actually be a bit lower than all the calculators give me. Of course, it's easy to underestimate calories consumed, especially with the way food packages aren't required to be all that accurate, and to be fair, it would be difficult to be accurate with the natural variation in most foods.

In any case, I'm still working on exercising more. I think I'll get a good set of heavy exercise bands. My old ones were worn out and cat-chewed, so I had to toss them - you have to do that every couple years anyway because elastic is not forever. I was thinking about waiting for Black Friday but honestly I'm not all that impressed by most Black Friday deals so I may not bother. Next to figure out a place to anchor them, ha ha.

Happy Saturday. My BMR is also around 1200-1300. I eat between 1300-1500 calories and burn about 200-300 calories in exercise only. I try and listen to what my body is telling me, rather then do whatever. I know when I over do my lower back sends messages. I have found walking every day has made a big difference. Wishing you all a wonderful day. Hugs and blessings.

Here is a after and before picture, first picture in purple skort weight 196 on 4/6/22, the picture with red shirt was on 11 6 23. Only a few lbs. difference but there is still a difference which encourages me. I found taking these pictures helps me stay motivated and moving forward.

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Sunday. It is going to be a good day. Joe and I are probably going to work on some leaves today. We have to get them bagged and if he is feeling up to it we will give it a go. After Church that is. I think we will at least give it a try today. We can always do it after the holiday weekend even though we are gonna get some snow on Wednesday. Sometimes I wish we could just stay home on Thanksgiving and not doing anything, but Joe wants to be there and I do too it is just a lot.

@Sand_TIger - I am hungry all the time, but I do just know that I gain if I eat more than that. My doctor knows and decided to send myself and my husband to the Bariatric Surgery Center. They do way more than the surgery. They are doing bloodwork to find out what diet and exercise we need to successfully lose weight and they will help us come up with a plan for food and exercise to get the weight off. I am also not impressed with the Black Friday deals this year.
@Kurtize - I would love to be walking everyday. I do need to do that more. Looking good in those pictures. I do see a difference.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

@Sand_Tiger, GREAT JOB on figuring out how to do your exercise in a way you enjoy!! Nicely done. Our Planet Fitness the last time I went was very nice. It's in an area that's not great, but yet, it's also a very upcoming area (Lots of fancy condos going into a neighborhood that has been very run down but it's changing). The workers really care, that makes a dfifference. How are you enjoying the 5% Challenge?
@Tabatha_Cain, that's not many calories, hopefully they can figure it all out for you. I'll be curious if they can help you, I'll see if we have one, well, I know they do. I may also check into it.
@Kurtize, you amaze us!!! Joyce and I are on the same team. Keep up the great work!!

I hope you are all having a good morning. Today is Monday. It is a short week for Joe and I. We both only work until Wednesday of this week since we have Thanksgiving on Thursday and Black Friday on Friday. Our offices never work those days because they are not beneficial in being open. No one will come in and get insurance and no one really bothers with the doctors office on Black Friday. They are to busy shopping the deals.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - I will definitely let you know if they are able to help. Joe and I are doing this together. I am sure there is something they will be able to do.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Monday,

@Dianedoessmiles1, I got a bad taste in my mouth from the Planet Fitness I saw in my area with their mockery of weight lifters, so I'm really glad you are having a GOOD experience instead. I was with Vasa for a while and enjoyed it when I could get to their location but then Covid hit and I was at home. I'm still at home, Vasa is quite far from my house, and it is not very fun going all the way there and back just to work out. That's not something I will be able to do. Used to have a workout partner but he kept getting back issues and having to cancel, so that's a no go too. So, whatever I do really has to be at home. The new set of exercise bands arrived yesterday and they are just top-notch! Very pleased with the quality. I think they will help. May have figured out a good place to anchor them too.

In general I'm enjoying the challenge but I stopped losing after Halloween, so what I'm doing is going through the motions and staying the course and putting more focus on weight training. That way when I can eventually start losing again maybe my energy needs will be a tad higher and give me a little boost. Essentially, give those calories something to do other than only building fat.

Looks like it's going to be a nice morning today! I have mixed feelings about the short week. Going to try and do some art over the long weekend if I can. I have lettuce coming up and potatoes getting a lot nearer to harvest. The beans need to come out soon.

@Tabatha_Cain, I hope your day went well!! I imagine its a slow time indeed. People are more into saving money here and there, and spending it elsewhere! WOOHOO on the long weekend! Will you both be traveling to Joe's family?
@Sand_Tiger, I did belong to Planet Fitness when the pangdangitall happened. I also as did many leave them during it. It wasn't worth the germs!! I love now and prefer a home workout. If you have a 5 or less store I got some of my weights there, and you just never know what else they'll have. I also got my weight lifting gloves there, they are very nice with a great grip. Now I can't use some of the stuff I have (I am in heart failure which also happened during the pangdangitall) if I try to do much above shoulder level I feel it in my heart and it just doesn't feel that great. I am more into cardio, which I can't also can't go fast, but it does not keep me on my rump all the time either, I aim for 30 to 60 mins a day of exercise, done slowly throughout the day. Some days I go way over, but I pay for it. When I pay for it though it's been so much fun I smile through the days of OOPS!
@Kurtize, I LOVE THAT!! It does look familiar, I WONDER WHY? LOL We are both on the PS4L team.

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Tuesday and since we have 3 days this week we are half way through the week already. That is weird to think about. I am so excited for the holidays this year. It is going to be so different with Joe's son in Minnesota and not anywhere we can see him for the holidays. Plus Joe's daughter is now married so not sure when we will see her. My daughter is currently not talking to me. I made her mad and we haven't spoke since July or August. So that is a big thing. I just feel like I have to make this a good Christmas for Joe and I.

@Sand_TIger - I too have heard really bad things about our Planet Fitness lately. I am glad you are going to be working with the bands. Those sound like they are a good idea. I do need to get out there working out more. Joe and I just don't seem to be able to coordinate with working out.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - Yes Joe and I are both going to his parents for Thanksgiving. Not sure what we will be doing for Christmas this year though. My Mom wants us to visit her this year for Christmas. It is a big mess this year and we have to figure something out.

Well I hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Morning all! Sunny here, as usual, though we had a couple days of rain. My garden likes that better than the chlorinated city water so I'm happy when it happens. Feeling better today.

So far my exercise has gone pretty well. I already had some weights so I reconfigured those and made more room in my office to use them. WIth the new exercise bands I can hit most parts of my body pretty well. Just going for a simple prgram of alternating upper and lower body during the week with a little running/dancing in place then getting some extra cardio on the weekends in the form of yard work and errands. Also watching inspiring YouTube videos, I love the ones with PHDs who are absolutely jacked and train by science.

As a female with a mostly functioning estrogen factory (for now anyway, until perimenopause hits) I have better recovery on average than a male so training each part of the body twice a week or more should be just fine and has been in the past. I still want fat loss but am going to prioritize muscle growth through the winter, because I would love to get my metabolism a little fired up and I lost way too much strength during my main fat loss phase. I lost 100 pounds in total and have kept 80 off so far. In future I might just do one of these challenges (like the one we're in) for fat loss, maybe alternating two months on and two months off? Having dieted for a long time, the fatigue is real, so I think this might be a healthier way to lose that last 20-30 pounds of fat.

Hope everyone has an excellent day.

@Tabatha_Cain, lol when I worked for the city of Portland (Maine) I swear we had more days off (paid) than we ever worked! Turkey week was always fun work Mon, Tues and a half day on Weds off until the following Monday. Same with the school before the pandangitall.
@Sand_Tiger, WOW! Great job on the loss!! Oh WOW!! Also fantastic job on the exercise! You're doing amazing. It's fun to read your posts! With the 2 months on/off do you mean job the challenge or with more intensive exercise? Some members do take a challenge off at times others like myself stay because it helps us with the support.

Good afternoon, hope your day has been going well. It is 52 out a chilly, need a jacket or sweater when you go outside. Got my hair cut, went grocery shopping, the store was busy today, can imagine what it will be like tomorrow. Other than that nothing exciting here. Hugs and blessings.

@Kurtize , lololol it's a turkey taco! I also went to the grocery store today. Surprisingly it wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought. Lolo I was nice and polite saying loudly "Oh its NOT busy" lolololi had worked there. They groaned. Lolol it's the way FYI guarantee they'll be super busy!

@Dianedoessmiles1 Thanks for that! I thought at first "what does she mean congrats? I gained since the beginning of this challenge!" And then reconsidered and thought "well I still haven't gained back even quite a quarter of what I lost, so that's not so bad."

In researching this mental fatigue I've been experiencing I ran across a concept called "fat loss periodization" where instead of trying to lose weight in long marathon with maybe brief cheat days you lose it in diets of two to four months in duration, and then have long periods of maintenance in between, at least as long as the diet lasted, sometimes longer. The goal is to make steady progress and train you in habits that will enable you to keep all your losses. I think that sounds a lot nicer considering how little I have to consume to truly lose. It'll be easier to stay focused if I have clear goals and a set end date. So I will probably sync those up with these challenges, like do one in fat loss mode then run one in maintenance, etc. It'll also allow me to gain muscle a bit better, which is definitely a priority for me especially before I hit menopause in 5-10 years.

Anyway, as I'm sure is obvious, I love learning about this kind of thing, the more I know about how weight loss works, the easier it is to optimize things and not struggle so hard!

    Good Morning Airport Friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Wednesday. It is the last day of work for Joe and I. Joe got a Christmas bonus at work but won't tell me how much it is for. He just says he is not sure what he will use it on yet. I wish he would share it with me, but I cannot force him to share the amount with me. Today we are packing to go to Joe's parents. We will be gone until Sunday. My son is coming home to take care of the animals.

@Sand_TIger - You will have to let me know how that goes. I am really struggling. I have about 60 pounds left to go. I am going to be getting help though through a weight loss center to help me plan my meals and exercise. So hopefully that will help. I need something to help me get the last bit of weight off. I seem to be stuck.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - We are loving the thought of the 4 day weekend right now. Not sure how long that is going to last though. We may end up coming home early from Joe's parents. Depends on how that goes. We will see.
@Kurtize - I could not imagine stepping foot into a store right now. The day before Thanksgiving. Not going to happen for me. I will not do it.

Well I hope you all have a great Wednesday.
