How many bags of tea go in a cup? How long to steep? Does coffee count? 🤔😉

One bag. String optional as definitely not part of the canon. Steep until it's the colour of old leather (only needs about a minute if your teabag is a strong blend). Dash of milk. Ditch teabag. Enjoy.

Nope...no such thing as builders coffee. No self-respecting british labourer would fuel himself on coffee. Coffee is for parvenus and poseurs.

Oh and it's always a MUG of builders tea, never a CUP.

The bigger the better, and a nice chunky non-poncy one, definitely not bone china....

No builders tea here in Texas. Only kind of tea available in most places is iced and so sweet as to make your teeth ache. In fact one has to practically beg for unsweetened tea! Sacrilege!
Now hot black coffee boiled until a spoon stands upright in it - no problemo.

    Hold on Bella!

So just a punny single bag of English breakfast (since I'm sure that the Earl Grey I prefer would be for poncies🤬) will stand up a spoon after a minute??????🤣🤣🤣🤣 in a pint mug?

Pretty sure Twinings don't make such bags!

My spoon don't move in my coffee! Even if I lift my pinkie!!! But given that's not strong enough, even *I* would either go for a 3 to 5 minute steep or 2 bags at least if doing tea!!!!!🤯🤔 If I wanted something strong that is!

(These days I no longer use sugar or milk)🤷‍♂️

I always use these teabags. My mug holds 350mls so one bag steeped for a few minutes does the trick. I just made one for Kim and steeped it for the usual time and it seems I’m rubbish at estimating time because my stopwatch told me I was pottering around for 4 minutes while it was brewing, so clearly 1 minute was an underestimation. If you make a pot of tea you always use one bag per person plus an extra one ‘for the pot’ .

We’re talking tea here, so this can’t compete with tar-like Turkish or napoletano espresso for strength and richness. Hubby and I save our espressos for after dinner, when we each have three Napoli ristrettì, giving us a lovely caffeinated jolt to see us through till bedtime.

Now that's a tea box I have NOT seen on our shelving... .have you Laurie? I only see the "regular" English Breakfast ones around.

I see that Bella does understand taste and caffeine... but AFTER DINNER? That would definitely extend my "get in bed time" maybe a bit too much.

So now if you're steeping 4 minutes... that's a different song that ONE!

I have not!!! I've been playing around with different teas lately because I couldn't find my usual. I discovered Irish breakfast tea this year and really enjoy that. But just ordered some Ceylon - which is supposed to be particularly robust....will report once it arrives :)

This MUST be a joke?????? Except, before they came up with "Steeped Tea" (pre steeped tea in a pot - very much like they have pots of coffee on hand) employees at Tim Horton's - our "national" coffee place frequently made tea this way. Milk in the cup, then a tea bag, topped off with hot water  Just the worst - and if you tried to explain to please put the hot water in before the milk (marginally better) people often looked very confused.

Funny - I came her to post about tea and we have a full on tea conversation in place :)

This morning I have a cement pourers mug of tea :)

To make sure my tea has adequate steeping time, my morning tea ritual is to make sure there is enough water in the kettle before I go to bed, and then in the morning on the way to the bathroom I flip the kettle on. When I'm back to the kitchen the water has boiled - I quickly prewarm my cup and pour a tea that steeps while I feed the dog and make my "special breakfast" - at least 5 minutes probably closer to 7 or 8.

This morning, in my flurry, I dropped 2 teabags into the mug.

I'm ready for anything now :)

MFP app. Spare phone. Various accounts. What-a-mess. Have pictures. But MFP won't take them from the phone. And google photos is not uploading them at all/to any account I can access from the desktop at this time!

Side of fruit with the omelette was really good and "appropriate". Hash brown little cubes were not overwhelming either. But the denver omelette was definitely as large and calorific as the 6 minute steeped tea was black! :hushed:

So today has been one of the relatively rare days where a large breakfast has NOT led to multiple-hours of not worrying about seeking extra calories! And when one considers how large it was... really I should have been on the off position for the rest of the day. I think that it is the TEA'S FAULT!

I used to own that very same tea pot! It was a gift from a friend - and I have since regifted it to my daughter in law :) Cool to look at - but didn't feel quite right - so I'm back to a regular china pot.

Those are VERY tiny potato cubes!

I"m not sure if I am reading your post correctly? Does this mean that you were left hungry? Seeking extra calories to eat?

    Not physically hungry, obviously.

But wanting to munch/occasionally munching on things when really.... why!

Have added 30g choco wafers 49.5g roasted almonds and 86g Winnipeg rye (city bakery) for just about 670 Cal between the 10am breakfast and 6:40pm

I grew up drinking strong brewed black tea with milk. My mom took it that way, from her grandmother (nanny) who immigrated from England. I've been drinking it at night at work (albeit decaf). Decaf Tea is way better than decaf coffee BTW.

On a related note (maybe), I've not had caffeine in nearly 4 months and I don't find I miss it. I used to drink a liter or more of coffee daily. I am debating wether I will reintroduce it or not. We brew freshly roasted, Ground at home coffee that is so good. Decaf coffee is just not where it's at.

    Ah....

My God Dog's owner is in love with rye bread from Winnipeg - he introduced me to it this past week. A fan who was in town from Winnipeg went to see his show on Thursday and brought him a loaf of said rye bread - but actually only brought a half loaf because, he apologized, he couldn't resist eating it on the way here :)

Just can’t get into tea - coffee all the way I guess. The only time we had tea is when we had colds or respiratory infections. Hot tea with honey and lemon and maybe a touch of whiskey 🥃.

Went in for my blood tests this morning in anticipation of my annual physical next week. There was fasting of course. Afterward hubby and I went for a quick breakfast out. Breakfast on a bun at Whataburger- bacon🥓 egg🥚, cheese 🧀 - 350 calories of goodness. And lots of black coffee ☕️strong enough to strip enamel from your teeth. 😬

Yup a funny face almost every day. He is definitely a keeper - had him for nearly 50 years! The most endearing things aren’t the grand gestures. It’s the little daily things that warm your heart …..
