Here is your Team chat room for December 2023. HOW IT ALL WORKS: The December challenge runs for 4 weeks, from December 3 - 30. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!

Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!

We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.

To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):

If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.

Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.

In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.

Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the last month of 2023 begin!!

Hi everyone! I'm Kathy and I'm Mission Slimpossibles team motivator, we have the wonderful @trueworld and awesome @broncobuddee as our team captains. I'm 52 and live in the Sacramento area in CA with my two cats. I've been on MFP this round and in in this group going on 5 years next month (think I started this team a few months after I joined and it's the one group that stuck). I just had a lower back fusion (L3-L4)/fusion revision (L3-S1) and am a month out, I'm currently doing home PT and walking plus chair cardio when I'm not up for walking. I volunteer at the food bank farm, have a garden, am secretary for a local charity, and do some part-time claims stuff when I can. Weight is up a little but I'm focusing on maintaining for now. I have chronic pain/nerve issues and health issues and am focused on staying as healthy as I can and hopefully get my pain decreased.

@trooworld I'm so glad things are better with the pups, I was worried about them. I ended up getting a tea sampler instead of an advent calendar, it had really good reviews but the tumeric ginger didn't have much flavor. Hopefully it's the only dud and I picked a bad one to start with! Good luck with the pups tonight!

@BadNoodle Oh you look beautiful! Great NSV to be posting a full-body photo rockin that dress!

@Veta2018 Oh no I'm sorry to hear about your night in the hospital, upper back and shoulder pain can feel a lot like something is wrong with the heart and if BP is higher from pain it confuses things. I hope the cortisone shots kick in fast! I was talking with two other people who have had multiple back surgeries and we were all saying we wished we could stay on steroids all the time. 150Lbs here you come!

@vegan4lyfe2012 DavidsTea is really good, a friend on MFP sent me a couple to try and they were so good. Like I said to Chris I'm hoping I started with a dud one as this tea had great Amazon reviews but of course can't always trust reviews. I should've asked here first! That'll definitely be fun for you and Hunter to do. Your nails are beautiful and festive!

My step goal is going to be around 4000, I'm not at that yet but am headed out for the night and plan to be walking around.

    Let's have a great December!

I'm Lis, 60 from the uk but been living in Spain for 22 years. I spend 8/10 months of the year travelling in my rv, it's my happy place where i control my eating with no problem and exercise loads. Just done 3 months visiting some fantastic places!
I started on mfp in August 2021 at 276lb. I'm currently 181.2 just 5.2lb away from my goal of 100lb lost! Hoping to get there by the end of 2023 but it's a challenge as now I'm back home which means less exercise and more socialising but I'm determined to finish my fantastic 60th year on a massive high!

Welcome to December! I am Linda and I am one of the team captains along width Megan who does an amazing job. I am married with 3 adult children. I have 4 beautiful granddaughters ranging in age from 2 to 18. I have two fat cats named Lady and Nick.

I started my weight loss journey in February of 2019. It’s been slow going but I finally reached my goal weight in November.. I have binge eating disorder and in 2018 started therapy. I learned to manage my binge triggers and reduce the binge eating. Getting this under control was a big help in my success. I joined this group right at the beginning of my journey and never would have reached goal without it. Thank you to all my present and previous teammates for all your support.

My fitness definitely needs work. I lost my motivation months ago and have not been going to the pool as much as I should. I am working on improving my walking. I have a bad back(nerve issues). This along with neuropathy and venous reflux causes quit a bit of pain. I can’t go for long walks anymore so I do mini walks. I started a new medication to help with the neuropathy pain but it will take another 2 or 3 months to get to the proper dose. I have increase my steps over the last few months and I feel my walking is getting better. This is so exciting to me. I am going to try increasing my steps to 4750 for December.

My biggest NSV to date is being insulin free for the last 2 years. Losing weight is the best thing I ever done for my diabetes. I wish I could have figured this out years ago.

    Goals:
    Maintain my weight
    Close my rings daily
    4750 steps daily
15 minutes minimum of walking each day

Just wanted to add a few things.

Please add myself @lindamtuck2018, Megan @Megan_smartiepants1970, Lis @Slimmersixties and Nach @NachDeezy as friends. I promise we won’t bombard you with messages.

This one in particular happens a lot in December. Please continue to post your weight even if you are up. I know people tend to struggle more during the holidays but by posting your weight no matter what the number keeps you in the group and still here once the holidays are over. Personally, I tend to struggle in August to late fall. I found by continuing to keep post my weight it kept me from totally giving up and gaining all my weight back. This is a very supportive team. Remember, we are here for the good, the bad and the down right ugly.

Finally I will be posting the introduction questions over the next few days instead of all at once. The first is:

Tell us about yourself. What is your name or what you would like to be called? You could include a little about your family, where you live, pets , work, hobbies, etc. Share as much or as little as you would like. Most of you have done this before but it is good to share again.

Hello Downsizers, my name is Jim and I live in St. Louis, Missouri with my wife Susan and our youngest son who's a high school senior (soon to be empty nesters). We have another son in college and two adult daughters. We're big travelers and have taken the kids to all 50 states to visit all the capitals and many National Parks (45+) along with a few Canadian provinces and Caribbean islands. I used to travel a lot for work (many times overseas) but changed jobs 7 years ago and now it's all pleasure trips at this point.

I've been overweight for probably 20 years but once was in great shape and so I know I have it in me to get back to that (relative to my age now). I had dropped to 205 lbs about 2 years ago but regained most of it back and am now hovering right around 240.
Pros: I eat pretty healthy and otherwise have good medical history
    Challenges: Workaholic, insomnia, portion control

I'm glad to be a part of this team and am looking forward to sharing in our collective success (1 week at a time). We recently celebrated with some friends at a Christmas-themed pop-up restaurant. I'm the one at the end of the table on the bottom right and Susan is on the far left side on the bottom left. Everything was very festive and we had a great time and I had an arugula and beet salad and split a turkey sandwich with Susan (good choice!) ... but also a few too many drinks (oh well, no one is perfect right?).

Welcome aboard Jim and Susan. We take it one week at a time and try to support everyone's efforts. Things change as the nest empties out, the road trips for work end, and much of the workaholic pressure subsides. Transitions are good. No time like the present to start working on getting back down to that 205 physique. But no matter what, your friends on this team will be here to help. Nice Christmas picture, by the way.

Hi everyone! I'm Darlene and this is my second round with the Downsizers. I am retired, 63-year-old, married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty). I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023 and have lost 63 pounds to date. My original goal was to get out of the obese category - but made that last month. My new goal is to get to "ideal" with a five pound buffer, so I have about another 30 pounds to go. I also had a goal in 2023 to walk 2,023 in 2023 and completed that in November as well. My new goal is to get to 2,400 by the end of the year, and complete a 10K on Jan 1 (walking). Walking is my main exercise, with my current goal at 17k steps a day. I try to strength train 3 days a week, and some kind of stretch exercise once a week (don't love the stretching!). I will be changing my username shortly (when one of my other groups completes the round); hoping that it won't mess things up here - I'll let you know when it completed (thinking 17KStepsADay). My goals this month:
    • 4 pounds (always my goal), although with the holidays will be happy without a gain.
    • Average 17K steps a day (I usually "rest" one day a week)
    • Strength train 3 times weekly
    • Stretch train once weekly
    • Hit 2,400 miles walked in 2023
    • Be better about checking in here!
