Question: What kind of ice do you like? .
@19shmoo69 would it be too personal if I said I'd like my ice in a cube trailed down the side of my neck by Sam Heughan on a hot summer day?
@Katmary71 they sell silicone ice trays that make ice in long bars to fit a water bottle
Cubes from regular ice trays is what I use most often
In restaurants I like small chunks so I can chew on them when my drink is gone
Odd fact: My daughter bruises if she has ice in her drinks. Her naturopath pointed it out and she's tested it out many times. She has issues with low iron so maybe the ice exacerbates the effects

The ice answers are Kool! I'm with you ppl , ice cubes in milk is weird. With that said I used to drink milk all the time. My wife would frost my mugs for me. It caused milk crystals. Now that is AWESOME (spoken in a high pitched operatic voice).
I can't remember who asked but....Yes I would eat the Dr. Pepper ice like a snow cone.6 -
@txcritter69 two dogs we had killed a skunk under my MIL's vehicle. Anyone who rode in it came out smelling like a skunk. We tried everything; cleaners, sprays, vinegar, airing out, etc. What finally worked was closing the vehicle up leaving a candle burning for several hours
@TeresaW1020 and @vegan4lyfe Congrats on the stretch of sugar/cola free days. Be careful when you reintroduce sugar back into your diet. It's surprising how quickly those cravings come back
@trooworld I love all crafts. I do a lot of card making and was featured in a few paper craft magazines, I've been sewing for as long as I can remember and now mostly do wedding dress alterations. I like painting and drawing as well as woodworking. My mother gave me a scroll saw as a shower gift lol. My most recent crafty obsession is cookie decorating but I've also dabbled in stained glass, knitting, crocheting, macramé and quilting
I missed @Katmary71 's post about yesterday being the quitting day and ironically yesterday and the day before was a real struggle. I did the bare minimum for exercise and although I stayed within the perimeters of my diet, I didn't eat in a way that would help me reach my goals. It didn't help that I ran out of vegetables a few days ago and it's been stormy here. I ventured out last night to the farmers market and stocked up on healthy food so I have no excuse not to stay on track this weekend.
As much as I'd like to cozy up in front of the fire and read a book my dog has been staring me down for the last hour which means it's time to don my snow gear and take her out for a long walk

I finally got approved for my Saxenda. I've already been walking more and watching the snacking. I really sit and think about whether I'm hungry, bored, or tired. Being tired really ups my want for carbs and sometimes, I just give in. My bloodwork looks great and I've actually lost a couple pounds from my Dr appointment earlier this week; but my weight fluctuates daily so I'm bouncing between 260-270 on any given day.
It has definitely been chilly here in Central NC. When I went to work on Wednesday at my PT job, it was 26F at 1000am, which is not super common for here. I grew up in NE Ohio but I haven't lived there in almost 19 years. But next weekend, we'll be above normal and probably get even more rain. It's been a wet fall/winter already, thanks El Nino lol
My favorite ice is crushed.
I'm working on track all the foods which I have not been doing.4 -
@TeresaW2024 – From the sounds of that Juro spider, are you sure you’re not actually in Australia?!? LOLs. Regarding the fast, I am confident you can complete it. When I first went vegan, it was due to doing the Daniel Fast for Lent. It was the very special, personal time with God that helped me through it with ease. Good job on the loss this week…every little bit in the right direction is a step in the right direction! Nice insight from James Clear. He hit the nail on the head.
@morenin – Not gonna lie…I thought you were talking about your dog at first…that you put sneakers, dress and coat on your DOG. Hahahaha! I need some caffeine!
@Cornanda – Nice loss! And thanks for the chuckle…Gus is goofy!
@Veta2018 – Nice loss!
@trooworld – Nice loss for you, too! And thanks for the recipe! Gonna give it a go this weekend! Violet is such a maniac! How awesome that you kept yourself in check at work. That IS a victory!
@865jessica – So glad your hubby was able to fix the plumbing!
@Jactop – You are so naughty! I had to google Sam Heughan cause I didn’t know who he was. Yes, I’m sure you’d like that! Hahahahaha And no, I am not planning on drinking soda again. I’m feeling way too good without it! That is awesome that you’re published with your card making! So crafty!
@bethanie0825 – So glad you finally got your med approved. Being bored is what makes me want carby snacks. Hang in there! We can do this!
Hello from the depths of Frozen Land…it warmed up to 19F here, but another storm warning was issued. In effect from now until Saturday morning we can expect 12” to 18” of snow. I am working from home again today cuz I didn’t want to deal with the few inches that fell overnight. My sweet coworker just appeared at my house and started brushing off my car and steps and made a path to my driver’s door for me…just in case Sydney goes into labor
I thanked her. She was going to do more, but I told her I hired our other friend’s son to shovel today. Just waiting for his dad to drive him over. He’s excited to have a paid shoveling gig (he just turned 15). Syd’s got about 2 more weeks, but I think she’s only going to make it for one more week. I’m betting on a January baby
I’m still doing great and feeling good. I want to bake up a couple blocks of tofu, but I have to wait until my avocados are ripe so I can make the sauce that I top it with. Avocados are hard as a rock! So I’ll probably make some soy curl fajitas today. YUM!
Just made another gallon pitcher of my cold tea infusion. I talked about it maybe a year ago, but I’ll share again. This is what I’m drinking in place of soda. In a gallon pitcher, I put in 4 teabags of Celestial Seasonings Zinger tea. Sometimes I’ll do all 4 the same flavor (the Tangerine Orange is a fave…reminds me of Tang), but sometimes I’ll do 2 Lemon and 2 Raspberry. Mix and match for your favorite flavor! Here’s a picture in case you’re unfamiliar:
I hope everyone continues to stay warm! Remember to let your faucet farthest from the water main drip if it gets to 20F or below so they don’t freeze!
2024 Mantra: YES I CAN!

@trooworld That IS a great hummus recipe. I'm glad to hear the good scores and comments about work, that's awesome! Wonderful job not turning to food when you were upset, you did great!
@865jessica Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about your pipe bursting! Sounds like your hands are full at home. I'm glad your husband figured out how to repair it!
@TeresaW2024 Sounds like your Mom should've had the elementary school's number to track down that list! You're doing awesome right now I'm so glad you're feeling better. We'll need pics of you modeling those clothes! I love the quote, a great example of that is with holidays, if you're eating healthy and working out the rest of the time one Thanksgiving dinner won't change anything. Funny I was listening to a “change how you think” podcast at the greenhouse today!
@Jactop Hahaha most interesting ice cube answer so far! Hubba Hubba I don't think ice can stay in a frozen state around him he's so hot! I had to Google him. Interesting about your daughter and ice, I wonder if it's the low iron of something else? I Googled that too and it can be related to iron. I'm learning all kinds of fascinating tidbits today! I'm glad you're not quitting, congratulations on getting to the farmer's market and stocking up on healthy goodies.
@19shmoo69 I love iced mugs for beer.
@bethanie0825 that's great news on your blood work and losing a couple pounds! Great news on the Saxenda too. We're about to get rain again but haven't been that low temps like you and most of the country, hang in there spring isn't too far away. Being tired I think has us off because of cortisol, I usually crave carbs then too.
@vegan4lyfe2012 LOL I thought @morenin was talking of stuff for her, I missed that it's the dog's gear until I read your comment! That picture looks SUPER cold yikes! What an awesome coworker you have. I love those teas, I can't find the blueberry in stores anymore. I'm currently on a pitcher of Wild Berry Zinger. Keep being awesome so glad you're feeling good! If you like licorice Stash's licorice spice is really good cold, I've been getting that a lot lately but ran out.
Hi friends! Spent the morning at the greenhouse and got a lot done, I have some serious thinning to do of the spring stuff then I'll see what's up from today's summer seeding. I'm getting anxious for my last two seed orders to get here so I can get my stuff going. Speaking of I need to go look in the yard after this and see if anything here is ready to be harvested. I decided not to go to the store and took a nap instead, storm's getting to me. I have minutes to do for the board then back to my book. Tomorrow's an open house of the non profits, not sure if I'll go but both the charity and food bank farm will be there. Have a great night and wonderful Saturday! We're celebrating my brother's 50th birthday tomorrow, I was going to get him concert tickets but was being nice and asked my SIL if she was interested and she still hasn't gotten back to me so I bought Disney bucks for their Disneyworld trip instead. Should've just bought tickets for Steve and I but I'm trying to include my SIL too and she listens to more mellow music than us.3 -

Well I’m now on the right track! Still have a lot to fix per se. like impulse buying then eating. My hubby has promised to go shopping with me to help in that area. I started some mild exercises this week and hey it didn’t kill me like I thought lol. I know I haven’t been posting this week but I have read and kept up to date with everyone on here. It has been a sad week for me cuz I had to put my wonderful kitty to sleep. I truly believe work should have bereavement days for pets because they are so much a part of your family and sometimes I think the bond is stronger because they listen to all your woes, dreams and challenges without any judgement. They just love you unconditionally. Today I’m not doing too much just groceries and tidying up around the house. It’s -20C here today so it is definitely an indoor day. I hope everyone has a good day and that the Canadian s on here stay warm.6 -

@trooworld- Violet sounds like a handful, a very cute handful. Congrats on your excellent review and having a healthy day. Nice loss!
@865jessica - thank goodness your husband fixed that pipe! Yikes!
@TeresaW2024 - Whahoo on your loss! I get those James Clear emails too and that quote resonated with me. I just remembered to look up that spider and it is SO disgusting!
@katmary71- Yay! we didn't quit! A new year of your green thumb- I know you love that.
@Jactop - that sounds like some nice ice! I enjoyed hearing about all your crafts. I tend to have high ambitions for crafts, but not the skills to make them happen. You have the skills!
@19shmoo69 - Milk crystals hmmm.... said in a regular voice.
@bethanie0825 - wishing you well with the Saxenda and tracking!
@vegan4lyfe2012 - You're going to have cabin fever if it doesn't stop snowing. A new grandbaby will definitely perk up your winter though. I love seeing the creative meals you are making for yourself. I might give those teas a try, are you saying they taste more fruit-ish than tea-ish? I like tea OK (don't judge me @19shmoo69) but I tend to buy them, drink a couple, then leave them sit unused so trying to avoid that.
@tammymccrady6278 - I'm so sorry about your kitty and I agree about bereavement days. 55 pounds is amazing! Keep up the good work!
Not much going on here this weekend. Going to mix catching up on my housework with some relaxing.

Good morning Slims,
It's cold here this morning. 10°F. It's a long underwear day. I've got my best hat. It's crocheted in camel stitch, with a double thick brim to keep the ears warm. I've got my fleece neck gaiter. I've got my gloved fingers inside mittens. I have to walk without my glasses because they'll frost up. At least the sun is shining! 🌞
I got all my cleaning done, I got all my errands run; I've got the whole day to myself. I think it's time to tackle an adventure! My adventure day is supposed to be on Tuesdays, but I've missed the past few Tuesdays because of work, weather, and illness. I'm heading off to College Woods for a hike. My first adventure of 2024. I don't think I need snow shoes, but I've got the spiky ice grippers on my shoes, and I'm bringing ski poles.

@Katmary71 There is NO quitting for me!! I’m staying very connected to the reasons why I’m striving so hard to reach my goals. I think when we lose our “why” or we think doing what is good for us is somehow a punishment then we quit. I know that has been the case for me over the years.
Happy birthday to your brother!
@Jactop I like your ice fantasy!
That is an odd fact about your daughter bruising when she has ice. Yeah, I know that adding the sugar back in will be when the real test to see if I can control it. fingers crossed That is good that you went and got the foods you need. I think the worst thing we do is not set ourselves up for success. I’ve been working on doing that too.
@bethanie0825 I am glad that you got approved for the Saxenda and I hope it continues to work for you!
@vegan4lyfe2012 Yeah those spiders are NO joke! We have been dealing with them for three years, and they say every year will worsen. I might need to move! I do love that my 40-day sugar fast is God-centered and I’m praying for His strength and help daily.
Love your tea idea! I love Lemon Zinger and I know I would love those other ones too. I’m going to give this a try! I forgot that you were near St. Joseph! That is where Joe’s youngest son and family live. The ones that will be here for Easter!
@tammymccrady6278 I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty. They truly are our family members. Brr on your weather! I would stay indoors too. Congrats on your weight loss this week.
@gemwolf110 Yayyyy for your loss!!
@Cornanda Yes, those spiders are awful. The only redeeming quality they seem to have is that they like to be up high in their giant golden webs and not crawl around everywhere. We have this one road that I drive to work that is really long and lined with telephone polls and they build their webs between the lines. There will be hundreds of webs and in the sunshine, it’s like a horror show. They also like to build their webs between the columns of the church and we have to make sure they are sprayed each week so people don’t walk into them. Soooo gross!
@trooworld Sorry for your migraine. Good job on doing some meal prep. I love barbacoa!! Have fun at the zoo. I love jazz music.
Good morning! I have had a productive morning so far and got my cardio workout done, hubby and I showered (not together!
), got the laundry going, bathroom cleaned, and paid some bills. That is about it for today. I’m going to work on my puzzle and chill out. I did watch this very interesting video from an influencer that I follow about the many uses of Castor Oil. She had done one a few months ago and I bought some and have been using it on my eyebrows and eyelashes which I swear are thicker and longer. I’ve also been using it on my whole face, lips, and cuticles. I love this stuff! She talked about how it helps with constipation and other IBS issues which is something Joe has been dealing with. So, tonight I’m going to pour some into his belly button and rub some around his abdomen and see what happens. I’m sure it will take more than one treatment.
Anyway has anyone else found uses for this miracle oil? If you want to watch the videos look up Shey Whitney on Facebook or YouTube and search castor oil. Have a great day!

@tammymccrady6278 Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, huge hug to you. I agree when I lost my last cat I did a lot of hiding in bathrooms crying. I'm glad you're on the right track despite the sadness in your life right now.
@Cornanda No quitting here! Sounds like the perfect Saturday! The teas @vegan4lyfe2012 posted are all fruity ones, I think the sangria may have spice but can't remember for sure. They're herbal teas and Celestial Seasonings has done great with fruity flavors, Jennifer talked about a blueberry the other year and I'd finally found and loved it and it's no longer at that store but it was THE perfect tea for spring to me. I usually add a chunk of cinnamon and ginger but they're good on their own.
@trooworld Have a great time at the zoo, good meal prep! I still have to try that recipe! Rain is perfect for jazz.
@micaroo4 That IS very cold yikes. I love your hat! Enjoy the hike, stay warm!
@TeresaW2024 Thank you! Glad quitting isn't in your vocabulary these days! I use castor oil on my legs and feet sometimes, I've added rosemary oil (I made it with EVOO from my garden) to it so it's not so thick for pain and for my hair (have previous combo plus Coconut oil mixed and put on the night before I'm washing it). I have the black castor oil and regular, the black reminds me of smoking as it's a smoky and I don't really like the smell but I'll use it up. I've also used it on my abdomen for digestion and it seems to help keep things moving. I'm supposed to try it with cayenne pepper on my feet but it's been cold so I've stuck to warm socks over putting produce bags and cheesecloth on my feet at night (that's where one of the women at the holistic clinic lost me since it's winter). I've listened to a bunch of the podcasts on YouTube about it and had started using it on my dark under eye circles but forgot I was doing that until I was thinking of what I use it for. OK most interesting tip is if you get a wart in the early stages you use castor oil and baking soda and rub it in then place a band-aid over it and continue until gone it goes away super fast! Most of the times I try this kind of stuff it doesn't work but that's impressive! If it's an old wart it takes longer.
Hi friends, have a batch of tea going and wanted to check in before I leave. I have a beautiful head of cauliflower to go harvest and have to get dressed and curl my hair. Have a great Saturday night and Sunday!

Sorry for the short post, but it's been a heck of a day. I fell while walking my doggy, and while I'm okay, I am a bit banged up. I will be moving a lot less for a day or two because of a deep bruise on my knee. I might give chair yoga another shot.4

Two pound gain in a week, so obviously I'm not thrilled. I've been careless with my eating, lots of sugar and not much produce. I also have been consuming a LOT of sodium.
Oddly, despite my weight gain, I've lost inches over everything but my boobs. Hips/lower stomach, calf, and ribs all saw measurement losses. Very strange.3 -
Good morning Slim Peeps,
Congrats to everyone who lost this week!
@vegan4lyfe2012 Congrats on no soda for 27 days. I hope the meds for ADHD work and they don't have to play with the different ones.
@TeresaW2024 I used the vinegar and dawn soap. Which worked fairly well. Great job on sticking with the no sugar. Keep up the great work I believe you will be able to lose that last pound this week.
@morenin I am so glad I live in the south. I cannot do the cold weather. I am a bear in winter. My house is my cave. I only leave if it is a must.
@Katmary71 We should all be wanting to drink everything with Ice, it is said that it helps burn calories. When you drink cold drinks your body has to use calories to warm up the liquid up to body temp. I don't use ice because i have sensitive teeth. I prefer all my drinks close to room temps or hot.
Diesel still has the faint smell of skunk and we continue to whip him down with a wash cloth in the face area. I read not to use tomato juice. They say to use dawn soap to break down the oil in the spray along with the baking soda to absorb the spray while also using hydrogen peroxide to naturalize the smell. Vinegar will also help as a naturalizer.
@trooworld the smell is fading but I still find it when opening closets and on Diesel when he wants me to love on him. We put drier sheets in the air return so when the heater comes on the smell doesn't circulate and it cleans the smell out in the ducts. It is so crazy how that smell will make it way in to every crack and crevice.
I love your pics from the zoo. That is amazing how they interact the cheetah cub with a dog.
@865jessica Glad your hubby was able to fix the pipe. Thanks to youtube we save so much money doing things ourselves.
@Jactop That is interesting about your daughter. When I was low iron I craved ice. Being able to air out the house Thurs helped a lot. Then Fri and yesterday we used the fireplace and candles along with glasses of vinegar sat out around the house.
@19shmoo69 I guess I am weird, when I was able to use ice I would put it in my milk. LOL
@bethanie0825 I'm glad they approved the Saxenda. Good luck with it.
@tammymccrady6278 I'm so so sorry for your loss.
@micaroo4 You are so much braver than I, as stated before I do everything I can to avoid going outside in the winter. I live in the south so I do not have to deal with such cold temps. We do get those real cold days but they don't last long. We did have to survive snovide back in '21 but that was only 2 weeks. Farmers almanac claims we are going to get another bad winter in Feb. so we will have to see.
So I believe I am caught up with everyone. If I left something out, forgive me. It has been a week. The skunk smell is gone for the most part but I still get a whiff of it here and there. I fell off the no snack after dinner wagon but am going to try again this week. I am surprised to find I did not gain anymore weight this week but stayed the same. The last part of the week was a stressor. I am finding that stressors are a downfall for me. This week I will try this again. As @Katmary71 stated the other day this is where most people quit. I will not. I will have to dig deep to find my will to get this done. The weather here is going to be raining and cold so for the most part I will remain indoors. I hope everyone has a blessed day.

I had a great hike yesterday, but oh, so cold! I'm glad I had the ski poles. I was able to go faster without fear of falling, and walking with poles gets my heart rate up even higher. Great workout! It was beautiful in the woods. I had just got out of the car to start up the trailhead, when I saw the first white-tail deer, a buck. I saw more deer as I was walking and LOTS of tracks in the snow. I didn't see another soul until I got back to the car an hour later. Someone was just getting out of his car to start the hike. By that time, we had lost the sunshine, so I was glad to be finished and on my way home to a hot cup of tea.
