Well, my sleeping has improved the last two days since having smoothies. I also slowed down the eating close to bedtime. I get off at 6 so it's a bit of a challenge...but I do eat a very light dinner...I just have to be sure to truly limit my snacking afterwards. Last night I was perfect and it paid off...I feel
today
coffee
green smoothie
beans and rice and onions and peppers and salsa
spaghetti with mushrooms and onions
cantaloupe, Ninja Creamini pineapple

Thanks for getting August started, Nanc! Glad to hear you are sleeping better.
I left the office right at 5:00 tonight and I am going to bed SO early. I'm exhausted.

@magic7155, I’ve noticed the link between eating well and good sleep, too. When I was in my full on sweets eating, chronic snacking habits of the past, my digestion was off, and the blood sugar crashes played with my energy and sleep.
Glad you have found a balance. Green smoothie sounds good. I used to use packaged protein supplement powders until I heard about their having heavy metal contamination. Now I use hemp protein powder when I include protein.
Hope you’ve gotten rest and recovery time in, @Mihani.
Today
B Whole grain toast, nut butter
L (quinoa-rice pasta) salad, white beans, tomato, avocado, greens

Ugh I have been very dizzy this last week. Swimming helps but not the yoga. But the yoga helps my back pain. I thought I might pass out bending down to pick up after dogs this morning. It is awfully hot and humid. I had to cancel my card making workshop for this weekend.
Had vegetable bipibop yesterday for lunch. Brought home 3/4 of the rice. Brooks made stir fried vegetables last night and had that on top of rice.
I have 4 boxes packed to go to our storage unit. We move Feb 2025. We decided to move back into our house and get it ready to sell in 1-2 years. We will have to pay for this move ourselves so our final move will be paid for the military within 2 years time. I figure on these hot days I can pack everything we want to keep but really not using.
Charlie Bear (aka Mr. Grubby Pants) says have a great weekend.

How'd your eggplant saute turn out, Sue? I love eggplant.
Bisky, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Good idea to stay inside and take it a little easier until it cools off. I had asthma when I was younger, and while I pretty much outgrew it, I still have some trouble with humidity. Hi Charlie-Bear!
I am heading to the office. Scheduled a meeting with a client at 9:30 so no rush to get there. Kind of nice to not have to hurry up and drink my cup of tea and get ready to go. Still woke up at 5:30 and normally I'd be at the office between 7:30 and 8:00, but I am not even going to leave until 8:00 or 8:30. I think I should be able to just bring some work home for tomorrow rather than having to go to the office again. I'd like some time to cook and need to do laundry.
I'm going to stop at Fresh Thyme after work. I want to make one of my greens and beans concoctions to get me through a few days, and cook some rice and potatoes.
Plan for today...
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini
L - Dr. McD soup, an apple
D - stir-fry veggies with red rice

Today is clean-the-flipping-kitchen-day COMPLETELY. and LAUNDRY!
COFFEE
matzo brie with just egg and spinach
green smoothie
last of the spaghetti
ninja creaminiHave a great day, everyone!

Did not finish the kitchen...but almost. I have also decided to get compostable containers for work...I am tired when I get home (11 hour days)...everything piles up...all the food prep lock and locks and sistemas...and then on my weekend I am forever cleaning a completely destroyed kitchen.
I need to get MORE ORGANIZED! I am thinking of the purchase of these kinds of bowls as an investment in my free time...I am hoping money well spent. We'll see how my experiment goes this next month or two.
Today, I worked simplifying my menu and meal prep. I am not into recipes right now. I am into TIME. I want more of it, to get to the gym, to swim early, in the shade, on my days off. To walk LULU in the shade AT FIVE AM!
I am going to make my
beans and rice bowl
spaghetti
deconstructed vegan sushi bowl
pasta salads
Taco bowls.
...and
green smoothies
matzo brei with just egg and spinach.
*If I come up with more easy ideas, I will use them.
At least for the rest of August and September.0 -
I was worn out yesterday and went to bed at 8:00 so I'm up and at 'em already. Have laundry going and will have breakfast, then get up to my desk. I'm sure a nap will happen at some point today. Might take a run out to the wholesale club for a few odds and ends but it could wait until next weekend. Need to pay bills today too.
I'm with you Nanc. I only do "real" cooking on the weekends, if that. I just haven't been into fancy much lately and seem to prefer simple meals like potatoes or a grain with steamed veggies and greens, oats with berries, stir-fry veggies, salads with a few veggies and some beans.
Stocked up on greens, broccoli and potatoes on the way home yesterday. Going to cook up some of the taters today and will throw veggies in the microwave steamer as needed.
B - ezekiel toast with tahini and sliced tomato
L - big ol' salad (spring mix, banana peppers, grape tomatoes, steamed broccoli, chickpeas, a little bragg's and dijon for "dressing")
D - baked potato, sauteed mushrooms and kale, might make a cashew "cheese" sauce

Your plan sounds great. So great that I picked up potatoes to add to my rotation!

My mom passed away 31 years ago, today...August 5, 1993.
I am going to make it a great day, filled with only positivity, making her proud. She died at 73...she had Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. All lifestyle related.
I wish I knew THEN what I know NOW. What a difference that would have made.

Thinking of you today, Nanc. *hugs*
I had a rough day. Didn't sleep well and was out of sorts, and everyone seemed to be going out of their way to irritate me. Decided to leave right at 5:00 and get a good night's sleep, start over again tomorrow with a (hopefully) better attitude.
B - oats with berries, cinnamon, chia/flax, a couple walnut halves
L - baked sweet potato and steamed broccoli, grapes
D - big ol' salad, watermelon

Mihani, I had YOUR day last Friday. Sadly, I get it. I do know we can rise above the fray. I am going to do my best today.
UP at three. Slept pretty well...but up too early.
I am excited to put my food prep in action today...goal is to not have anything to wash for the work week, as far as my meals I take to work go. The food is basically ready, except for breakfast. I make it fresh...but it's easy. I love the combination right now...high protein-Just Egg, with a tasty carb-Matzo and loads of spinach with a touch of TJs organic reduced sugar strawberry jam.
I do love the green smoothies...BUT ...last Friday, I was told that my teeth were green.
They were. I cracked a tooth June 1st, biting on a frozen piece of licorice. Not the front tooth, the one next to it. Pulled on June 12. Implant will not be ready for six months...it's in...but has to grow into the bone, I am guessing on that part. In the meantime, they made an "Invisalign" kinda thing with a tooth in it....(very high tech took pictures of mouth before it was pulled, perfect match)...This way, I am able to face the world...BUT THE DANG GREEN SMOOTHIE TURNED THE INVISALIGN GREEN, TEMPORARILY.
I will have the green smoothie after work. Hoping it helps me sleep. Trying that tonight.
coffee
matzo brei
rice and beans and onions and peppers
watermelon
nectarine
green smoothie (spinach, broc, soy milk, water, frozen pineapple, blueberries)
the end.

OMG, Nanc... sorry but that cracked me up you accidentally turned your smile green with a smoothie. How'd your food prep plan go today?
Better day. Slept better last night. Just overwhelmed with work and not sure what to do to try to catch it all up! It's never-ending.
B - oats with berries and almond milk yogurt, cinnamon
L - an italian bean salad my boss brought me, and half my lunch that I had packed (sweet potato and steamed broccoli)
D - big ol' salad, some grapes for dessert
It has been hot here, in the 90's, and the salads taste extra good when it's hot out.

OMG! My renters are buying a house 4 doors down which means we will be moving back! I am excited. My loving supportive older sister (sarcasm) said to me…..I hope the stress of moving does not cause you to gain you weight back? Seriously? That the first thing that comes to her mind? More later.1
-
That's very exciting news, Bisky! Yay! And your sister... ummmm... this is not the forum in which to use words I would like to use in response to her comment.
Feeling mildly better about life in general. Nothing has changed and still stressed out, but trying not to let it get to me and remembering to do my mindful breathing throughout the day. I just keep reminding myself four and a half more years and I can retire. That helps.
Plan for today...
B - oats with berries, cinnamon, almond milk yogurt
L - sweet potato and steamed broccoli
D - big ol' salad
S - grapes and/or an apple

Hey gang...I kept quiet, did not say a word. It was NOT one bit funny.
Bisky, I wonder if our sisters are the same people. When I cracked my tooth and told her it had to come out...mind you, it was a front tooth...my very caring and sensitive sister said, "well, I guess no corn on the cob for you this summer." Lovely
And Bisky, explain to me about your renters buying...you will then get to move back into your own? I am confused. In other words, if they weren't going to buy, you did not want to kick them out so you could live in your own home?
I am with with Mihani...I'm quite a bit older but I am hoping to retire in 32 months...I have an app (free) called COUNTDOWN. Get it in the app store. You can put in days, hours, months, years for your countdown...make it fun and colorful. Check it out.
May 1, 2027 is my target date. It all depends on paying off my home. Once that is done, I am free. My car will be paid off Sept 2026 and then just the house.
The goal is once those two things are paid off...Lulu and I are free...and she gets me FULL TIME. We will then think about adopting a little sister for her...trial basis. But since I will be home, it just might work.NOW, I just have to figure a way of being happy at work, while surrounded by people that are not easy to deal with. SALESMEN!I SLEPT ...6 hours. It's been months since I slept that long. SO EXCITED.
Today...
coffee
matzo brei
bean and rice bowl
grilled tofu salad bowl
ninja cremini
THE FRUIT I BOUGHT IS HORRIBLE.
Make it deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicous everyone!

We rented our house out when we moved to Japan to a dual AF couple…he is a pilot and she is a nurse. When Brooks got cancer we felt it would be unfair to ask them to move out. They have a very sick child who was in and out of the NBICU with Covid, RSV and several bouts of pneumonia. So we moved on base and let them continue to rent our house. They had stated they want to live there until we needed to move back in. So last week I stupidly gave them a 6 months notice. They panicked and put a bid on a house in the neighborhood immediately and it was accepted so now instead of March 2025 we are moving next month. I have found movers that have base access and lined up to move the heavy stuff. We still have a storage unit and just last week before we found all this out…I had packed up 6 boxes worth of stuff we weren’t using and moved them into storage unit. Yesterday I had 5 more boxes packed and a load to the goodwill. Toughest area is always the kitchen. I had done that Swedish death cleaning in January and got rid of quite a bit. I am distancing myself for a while with my sister. That remark was uncalled for and fear mongering. I do worry about gaining weight back as I have in the past. Thank god for my eating disorder therapist.0

Mornin' all, I have got a little better sleep the past couple nights so I've been able to get treadmill time in the morning. Glad to be back at that. It seems to help my mood and energy for the rest of the day.
Bisky, it's a good thing you had already got a start on clearing things out since you are now moving sooner than later. Distance from your sister sounds like a very good idea.
Nanc, yay for good sleep!
Didn't get out of the office until after 7:00 last night. I am hoping another couple weekends things will settle a bit and I can get out of there for a long weekend or something.
Plan for today is pretty much same as yesterday, although I'm meeting up with friends tonight and will have a cocktail.

very happy it is
up in the middle of the night ... crunching numbers... seeing if I really can retire May 1st 2027 barring any unforeseen major expenses!
It is a ways a way...so many things could happen. But given my present circumstances and finances...I am thinking I would ask if they would cut my hours and days in half. That would be TWO, TEN HOUR days. I think I would feel comfortable leaving Lulu just two days...not ideal, but then we would have extra pocket money to take road trips to cooler temps during the summer and rent places for four days at a stretch. LIKE Prescott and Flagstaff.
Anyway, all these scenarios do keep me up but also keep me going at work ... fun to daydream.
Bisky, thanks for the explanation...glad it is working for both families. And as far as your sister goes, she is very toxic. Put up a barrier around yourself so she can no longer harm you. Stay here with us...we will protect you.
Mihani, I am most excited for you to retire...your work schedule is grueling...I hope they are paying you what you are worth...sounds like you keep that company afloat.
meals today...pretty much identical...in fact...yes, the same.
coffee
matzo brei
beans and rice
oh wait, here's a switch...little Gardein burgers cold (2) with ketchup
some kind of dessert when I get home...very very light...hoping for a great night's sleep so this weekend is spectacular!make it deeeeeeeeeeeeelcious, everyone!

Nanc, when are you thinking about cutting back hours? That's exciting!
Got up early and did a mile and a half on the treadmill. Making some rice and will steam some broccoli to take for lunch, then heading to the office. Will hit up Fresh Thyme on the way home to restock fresh veggies, potatoes, mushrooms, fruit.

Cutting back hours ... not until my house is paid off May 1, 2027 (if all goes according to plan!)
Up ... getting ready for the day. Haircut at noon...but first, nice walk with LML!
coffee
last of the matzo brei
bean burrito
rice and broc, peppers and onions.
I have to find some fresh fruit for dessert.
Otherwise, Ninja Creamini.
Have a great day everyone...make it deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!0 -
Been reading a lot about budgeting and retirement...
Bottom line: Retirement should be a time of enjoyment, not financial stress. Be wise with your spending, and you’ll have a much happier retirement.0 -
today's plan (flippping can't sleep!)
coffee
matzo brei...
bean burrito
sauteed broc with rice (tamari/maple syrup/touch of roasted sesame oil/water) YUP...I love broc again!
smoothie bowl
Making smoothie bowls in the food processor. Better than the Vitamix...use less milk, thicker and Lulu loves it.
Yesterday we had blueberries, pineapple and banana...she was so happy. I made her a little cone.

Mornin' All,
Nanc, great job keeping your goals front and center and planning accordingly. Both for retirement and eating for health.
Slept in a little this morning and feeling kind of sluggish so no treadmill until this evening. I want to get to the office earlier today. Didn't go in until about 9:00 yesterday. One of my coworkers is coming in to help. Yay!
Plan for today...
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini and sliced tomato
L - oats with cinnamon, berries and yogurt
D - steamed broccoli with red rice
Getting back to very simple and easy to throw together meals this week.
0 -
UP again in the middle of the night...grrrrrrrrrrr!
But I am excited about my meals...so simple and repeats everywhere.
coffee
matzo brei with loads of spinach and Just Egg
broccoli and rice ... maybe some air fried tofu
bean burrito
smoothie ice cream cone...blueberries, strawberries, banana, pineapple, soy milk
peach!
make it deeeeeeelicious!

Bummer, Nanc. Was hoping your sleep was getting back to normal.
My coworker and I got through a lot yesterday, and I have things sorted and prioritized on my desk for today. Hopefully it won't be a crazy day and I can actually work on some of them.
I haven't been posting my food plans because they have been so repetitive, but today will be:
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini and sliced tomato
L - red rice with steamed broccoli, an apple
D - big ol' salad with a variety of veggies and some chickpeas
S - almond milk yogurt sprinkled with a few tablespoons of grapenuts
0 -
Good luck at work today, Mihani. I did fall back asleep...three hours later. Today, check up with the dental implant guy...see how I am doing. The "invisalign kinda temp fix" is a pain in the neck. I need to be able to wash my mouth out (take the dang thing out) when eating certain foods...so I am limited at work. Another five months of this. Fun times.
I haven't made broc this way in forever. I have been steaming in in the sistema thing a ma jig. Now, with the stir fry method and some pretty yum sauce...I can eat more broc again.
Dr. Gregor is a huge proponent of the benefits of broc. Yay, us!
The beans I am getting in by way of the little burrito...and the spinach by way of matzo brei.
I did make some overnight oats with chia seeds and flax meal...that is a good one to take to work.
Off to shower and get ready for dental.Have a deeeeeeeeeeeelicious day everyone.0 -
While at Sprouts, yesterday, I picked up Brazil nuts for the selenium and also a few walnuts, daily, for brain health.0
