Magic, I think if you retired you would just create a new routine. Retirement isn't for everyone though. My father could retire, but prefers to work. He works full time when the business is busy, part time when it isn't, and takes the summer off. Lots of options out there.

I went for a 30 minute walk today. It didn't hurt my heel as I was doing it. Fingers crossed that it won't start to hurt later in the day. I made sure to do some good stretches. I was planning to take another rest from walking and beat those virtual drums but my arms are super sore from yesterday.

Joe doesn't like cantaloup in particular, so I finally finished off that delicious melon that I bought last week. I am hopeful that the next one will be as good.

We remembered to downsize our Plantage order for next week. It will be an interesting experiment and should reduce my daily calorie intake plus add extra nutrients from the salads. Yesterday and today we're having lentil enchiladas with rice and a cruciferous salad with dressing. Perfection on a plate. Looking forward to it already if you can't tell!

Carla, I've looked at those plant based cruises too. They look like they would be a lot of fun, and getting to see and hear all the "plant based stars" that we've all followed for years would be really cool. Glad to hear your heel is okay.

Nanc, maybe you could just continue to cut back your hours little by little and ease into retirement.

My second day of potatoes didn't work out so well because I got some kind of virus and started throwing up yesterday afternoon. Came home and was sick for a couple hours, slept a lot, and was fine this morning. So weird. Today was nothing but ezekiel toast and yogurt though.

Can't believe how fast this week is going. I am planning on being in the office most of the weekend again, because I have to get some of the backlog caught up while I have a chance.

First time this week I've managed to get up and feel like getting on the treadmill. Got in a mile and a half so I'm nearly to my 5,000 goal for the day already. I'm going to start doing a DVD or youtube video every evening. I like the ones that mix cardio and strength. Plus I need to start doing my yoga every night again. My hips have been a little achy from sitting at my desk so much.

Plan for today is still easy on the stomach toast, yogurt, miso soup.

Sorry for the bad tummy, Mihani. But good for you waking up feeling good and getting to the TM already.

Thanks ladies for the tips on how to maneuver retirement or partial retirement without flaming out.

In my head I take such good care of myself now because I have 4, 10-hour days. I hate having to go through them not feeling the best I can be. I think that helps me on my days off, keeping me focused ... no time for big slacking off binge type deals, cuz I would not recover fast enough, having to be back to work in a day or so.

Anyway, today is what I am dealing with...regular work day and I feel great. I will deal with retirement once the house is paid off.
today... my COFFEE MAKER STORY...not interesting...skip it. 3neb6de8tmks.png

coffee (I ended up with a BUNN coffee maker). LOVE IT! It is a bit different in the set up process and how it works, but so worth it. The coffee tastes like coffee. I don't remember what I had before a Keurig but got that in maybe 2007 or so. Whenever they showed it for the first time on QVC...that's when I got it.

Had Keurig for the longest time...they do not last and bought several upgrades.

Finally got smart and got a French Press. Not the easiest in the morning, but better coffee

Sister got me a Nepresso, oh I guess about 2019 or so. Ditched the Keurig. UGH.

Started using the Nepresso a lot when I had both knees done..so happy I had it.

BUT then, I said, this is too expensive...those dang pods. Looked around...and voila, after a short stint with a Cuisinart which DID make coffee nice enough, it's just that it DID NOT TASTE LIKE COFFEE...

So weird. Somewhere along the line, these coffee makers did something that changed the taste of coffee ☕️!

Anyway, I gave BUNN a try. Made in the USA, around forever. Used in diners. AND now, I am happy.

I did get in on Amazon, but the price is the same on the BUNN website. $119. They have different models...I think mine is the cheapest. I love it. THE END!

Glad your bug went away quickly, Mihani. Great job on the treadmill!

Magic, my coffee makers went from Nespresso to Keurig to my current machine. Made in Holland, but I forget what the brand is. Maybe because I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet? :) I have a press too but I use it more often for cold brew coffee (leaving cold water and grounds to mingle for overnight or longer).

Hope all is going well with the packing and moving, Bisky!

Tonight I'm going to make up several single serve portions of chia seed pudding. I have a mango that I don't want to eat all at once (blood sugar), so I'm going put a little on top of each serving. I got that idea from our Plantage meals. It adds just the right amount of sweetness and flavor.

My walk yesterday didn't have a negative impact on my heel. Yay! Something to be said for building slowly but it sure is hard when you have the energy and are in the zone.

Hmmm... y'all talking about coffee reminds me that I don't think I've mentioned it has been several months since I've had a cup. I just lost my taste for it and don't like how it makes me feel. I have a little 4 cup Mr. Coffee and it's very cute but hasn't been used in a while now. I have a cup of breakfast tea in the morning, and a couple cups of green tea throughout the day.

I've never had much luck with chia seed pudding, Carla. Never seems to become a real pudding texture. Maybe it's not supposed to?

I am still eating mostly toast, yogurt and miso soup. Had a banana last night. I'm going to have some rice and greens tonight, then maybe I can get back to my potato plan. Treadmill done this morning, and want to start adding in some sort of evening exercise tomorrow. Tonight may be cocktails or I may just come straight home.

I'm having a party in September so I need to get started on cleaning up the yard. I'm going to have the cleaning company I've used before come in the week before the party but I have a little clutter on the dining room table to tackle this weekend.

UP and AT EM for a good day ahead...that's all the news I have!de60yhv9w1fd.png

Hope you are back to being 100% by weekend's end, Mihani.

Clean and Delicious on YouTUBE, Dani, makes those puddings...she loves em. I have never tried...they look delicious, Carla.

    Today, slight change...

    coffee
    matzo brei
    rice and broc
    nectarine

    baked potato

4es44fejcqr1.png what's left of it...I have noticed that the shadows of the leaves on the trees against the garage door are changing. LOL, hey, I live in the desert, THAT does signal a changing of the seasons ... hehe!

The sign of changing seasons for us here is a drizzly day. It has been raining lightly all morning. But I know there will likely be plenty of hot (to us) days in September. Our blackberries have slowed their ripening and peak berry season is behind us.

Mihani, my chia seed pudding was too thick with 2 Tbsp seed to 1/2 cup almond milk, but too thin with 1 cup to 2 Tbsp. Perhaps 3/4 of a cup will be the sweet spot. It isn't my favorite. Heck, I don't even like regular pudding much, but when I need a snack or dessert, I feel good about having it. The mango helps a lot.

I can't imagine not having coffee in the morning. The anticipation of having it is what helps me get out of bed.

I did a 45 minute walk today, still at 2.8 mph. I'm stretching before and after my walk even though it is just a simple walk. If I do end up injuring myself, I want to know I did what I could to prevent it.

Dinner last night and tonight is a big salad with tofu nuggets, a fabulous dressing, and a smashed potato.

    Happy Friday!

Well today has been a bust. I got up early, had breakfast, puttered around the kitchen, then went back to bed and slept 3 hours. So much for getting stuff done this morning! Now I'm going to eat lunch and head up to my desk for a couple hours before going to visit family for a bit. Tomorrow I'll go to the office but probably only a few hours since I brought home so much to do and won't get it done today.

Today was ezekiel toast with tahini for breakfast, cheezy mac and BBQ jackfruit for lunch (from the grab and go), and a big ol' salad for dinner.

Going to stop and get some mushrooms and make up a big pot of one of my greens and beans concoctions that cover the GBOM part of the Dr. F's GBOMBS. I like them leftover cold so probably just serve over a bed of lettuce for easy salads this week. Thinking I'll throw some broccoli and red peppers in there for extra nutrition.

    today

    coffee
    matzo brei
rice and broc and air fried tofu
not sure what else...I would really like to make carrot/pineapple juice this weekend. We'll see.

Hiya Nanc... are you off today? How's Miss Lulu doing?

Carla, I'll try your idea for chia seed pudding.

Been a pretty productive day here. Got laundry done then knocked out one big file that took most of the morning. Now I'm making my beans and greens to get me through a few days and I'll head back up to my desk. Talked to the boss and he said he wasn't going to be in the office long so I didn't need to come down if I'd rather not.

I have a big list of things to do before the party. I have 3 weeks but only 2 weekends to get it all done so I better get started doing little bits every evening since I'm working so much weekends. I am taking the Friday before the party off to get everything ready so I'll actually be taking a 3 day weekend! Unheard of. LOL

    Today...
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini
L - will be some of the greens and beans over spring mix as soon as it gets done
D - not sure since I'm getting a late lunch... maybe just more of the beans and greens and an apple

    Good morning!

Overslept a little but got on the treadmill anyway. I should still be out of here on time if I don't dawdle. Going to be a busy week with the boss getting back from vacation but I did get some catching up done last week while he was out. I have both lunch and dinner packed so that if I get stuck late I can have dinner at the office.

I want to start tonight with some evening exercise. Plan is a DVD or even just yard work or housework, but basically to get in 30 to 60 minutes of activity in the evening. When I get home so late I tend to just eat something then go to bed shortly after.

    Plan for today...
B - sweet potato and steamed broccoli, a brazil nut
L - oats with cinnamon, chia seeds, 2 walnut halves and berries mixed with almond milk yogurt
D - greens and beans on a big pile of spring mix and topped with a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds

I had yesterday off and today as well...back on my reg schedule, M! Good luck with the party preparations...what's the occasion?

Had a nice visit with my sister and BIL yesterday...hadn't seen them for a long time. Back to their house this upcoming weekend, niece and her fam coming in from Houston. I go there in October for five days. I have a puppy sitter for LULU. Super reasonable. Sleeps over. $40 bucks a day. She is a customer at the dealership I work at...met her and think she is a perfect fit for my little girl.

    today...shocker !

    coffee
matzo brei Just EGG, spinach and matzo
    rice and broc
couple of bites of overnight oats with blueberries.
    1/2 bean burrito
    cold baked potato
    fruit

    make it deeeeeeeeeeeelicous, y'all!

Trying to get all this in, in one day. NOT easy. BEANS, GREENS, BROC, BERRIES

    tomorrow:

    matzo brei (addicted)
    carrot/pineapple juice
salad with sauteed broc and kidney beans, romaine, zucchini, carrots, red onions
    over night oats with berries
    cold baked potato before bed.

    Hello!

I have been packing very slowly and getting overwhelmed. One of my friends suggested we just pay double rent for October and take our time. That is a lot of money. Exposed to Covid 3 days ago but no symptoms yet.

Magic…that was too funny about your dinner the other night. I could see me doing that. I retired 2015 and busier than ever. Brooks plans to work n the civilian world for a few years.

Mihani - Nice you were able to visit your family this weekend.

Carla - I so want to do Dr. Fuhrman’s retreat. I thought it would be a good investment to our health. BUT, no way I could be without our dogs that long. I wonder if they have dog friendly rooms?

Coffee and Pie - are you ok? Seems the last I heard from you…you had blood clots in your arm from an IV. 😱

Well having 5 dogs and more walks resulted in a couple more lbs gone. Plus all the packing, trips to storage and thrift stores. I about have kitchen, dining room and living room finished. Going to start my desk, closet and bedside table this week. Save my craft room for next two weeks. I am trying to be more positive that this gives us a chance to “ downsize, pair down, Swedish death cleaning, etc”. Boy am I glad I got rid of so much stuff in January. Still have a lot that needs to go.

We went to Cava last night. A Mediterranean chain. Kinda like chipolte where you pick what you want..sandwich, salad or bowl. I had lentils, rice, chopped brocolli, cauliflower, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions with red pepper hummus. It was good but next time I will bring it home and add a little sprinkle of sunflower seeds and/ or walnuts and beans. They didn’t have those options. 🤔.
Have been enjoying matcha green tea latte with coconut milk. Friends in Japan continue to send us matcha green tea because it is good for immunity and oral cancer. I found 6 bags. Sent two bags to sister who makes matcha green tea cookies ( loaded with sugar). 😱The same sister who is keto and won’t eat fruits or beans, potatoes etc. because they are loaded with sugar.

We went out for breakfast with some family members to celebrate a birthday. Good food, good company.

I am running behind on some testing I need to get done for work, so I will keep it short and sweet for today.

I did a combo of walking and VR workout this weekend. We went off the rails with food, but back on track now and we'll have a better plan next weekend, with prepared food ready to heat 'n eat.

Tofu, Stir fried veggies, and noodles for dinner tonight.

Hope everyone has a great start to their week!

Nanc, no occasion just felt like having a party.

Carla, hope you get all your work done.

Bisky, sounds like you are making great progress.

Got in my mile on the treadmill again this morning. I did a DVD last night and it was really hard. I haven't done serious strength in a while. Just need to keep at it!

Plan for today same as yesterday.

Good job on the EXERCISE, Carla and M...rock stars.

A wee bit of a change in my menu...

    coffee
    matzo brei
salad...romaine, sweet bell peppers, zucchini, red onions, cukes, a few craisins...croutons.
    bean burrito
home for the last of the rice and broc
    apple slices

did not make the carrot/pineapple juice...next weekend will try and find time to make carrot/apple.

    I had never watched Grey's Anatomy...it's on Netflix...hooked. Season 9 I think. Pretty crazy, that's all I can say.

    make it deeeeeeeeelicious everyone.

Magic, that's a great price to have someone stay at your place and take care of Lulu. Awesome! Nice to have a trip to look forward to.

Mihani, I hope your party prep continues to go well. How fun! If only we were all close enough to attend. Maybe one day we can all get together.

Bisky, grats on the weight loss!

Yesterday I took a rest day. In more ways than one. I didn't do my workout, and I went to have a quick cat nap but ended up sleeping for 2.5 HOURS!!!! what?! I haven't been sleeping well, but still, that was very unexpected. Unsurprisingly, I had trouble getting to sleep at bedtime. Now to avoid napping and get back on track today.

Finished my walk for the day and now getting back to work. Tonight is our first night of having a salad followed by half a plantage meal.

I haven't ever watched Grey's Anatomy either, Nanc. Maybe I'll catch some episodes on the treadmill. I can't seem to maintain interest in any one show for long lately.

Carla, I was thinking the same thing wishing my ETL gals could be here for the party. How'd it go adding a salad and cutting the entree to half?

Third day in a row mile on the treadmill. I did a strength workout Monday, and will do that again tonight and again on Saturday. I think if I do 3 strength sessions a week plus some yoga evenings, that should be a fairly easy to maintain habit. Getting sick last week was a bummer and broke a pretty good streak of daily treadmill.

    Plan for today...
B - sweet potato and steamed cauliflower
L - oats with cinnamon, berries and yogurt
D - greens and beans stew over a bed of lettuce

Need to make a Fresh Thyme run on the way home for greens and broccoli, and more sweet potatoes. Will need to make another batch of greens and beans tonight.

Carla, sleeping is such a tough one for me as a senior...but I was never a great sleeper to begin with...HOWEVER, I have found my sleep is really affected by what I eat in the evening, especially if it close to bedtime. I do try not too eat close to bedtime...nothing heavy for sure. But keeping in very WFPB works the best.

A cold baked potato works. Tonight, I will have my the last of my broc and rice after work. Mostly broc, very little rice.

Knock wood, I have been sleeping better. I used to take all kinds of supplements...always looking for the latest and greatest herbal -type sleep aid. Last Christmas I guess it was, I was so sick with upper respiratory infection, I stopped all of that. Never started it up again. Do sleep better now when I do sleep. And lately I am getting at least 5-6 hours a night. That is great for me!

    Today...

Magic, you're right about eating late, and what you eat, impacting sleep. I normally don't eat after 5 pm if I can help it. My MIL is 75 and believe it or not she takes a sleeping pill every single night. And has been doing that for many years. I wonder about long term side effects. And also being able to wake up if there's an emergency.

Nice job on your workouts, Mihani. Getting back to it is far more important than a few missed days, and especially when you're not feeling good. I didn't eat much of anything last night so I didn't have the meal plan, just a small salad with a few chickpeas and pumpkin seeds. Probably not tonight either but we'll see.

I have been having a lot of trouble with acid reflux and digestion. That is why I barely ate dinner last night hoping that if my stomach was empty it would help. I have also been having trouble with my breathing. I realized last night it is likely the same problem Joe was having before: acid reflux causing breathing trouble. I am starting an antacid medication today that should start helping in the next 2 to 3 days. I'm also cutting down to 1 cup of low acidity coffee a day, and having cantaloup because I read it is good for lowering acidity.

I've still managed to keep up with my walks. They don't seem to make my breathing any worse. 35 minutes yesterday. I know my goal should be closer to 10k steps a day, but since walking on the TM, I always get over 5K and that is better than I was doing before.

We were looking into going on a cruise with my in-laws, but the one they chose is more than double the price of the other cruises we were looking at, so we'll take a pass this time around. I'm looking into various trips but it is hard to choose. Right now I'm thinking of Croatia. They have some beautiful national parks and nice architecture in the various old town centers. Something to motivate me to keep walking. I have been watching youtube videos on town walkabouts in Croatia.

Glad to hear you've been sleeping better, Nanc. I agree eating late in the evening tends to disrupt my sleep although, overall, I don't have much trouble with sleeping.

Carla, over 5k steps per day is excellent! I used to try for 7,500 and would feel like a failure day after day. I can make 5,000 even with a fairly sedentary job so it's a much better goal mentally and easier to be consistent.

Ohhh, planning a vacation is fun! When are you going?

I stumbled across Baba's Hummus which has no oil. It does have tahini so it's still higher in fat than making homemade but as long as I keep an eye on serving size it works into my nuts/seeds allowance. I have just found that eating any type of oil is not good for my stomach or my weight and better off sticking to nuts and seeds for healthy fats. Plus I'm still hoping to get my cholesterol under control before my next doctor appointment. I'm fairly convinced that my months of eating things from the grab and go that have oil is what made it shoot up. The food is very healthy otherwise, and she does use minimal oil, but Dr. Essy says even small amounts of oil can be damaging.

    Plan for today...
B - sweet potato and steamed cauliflower, brazil nut
L - oats with cinnamon, berries and chia/flax, a few walnut halves
D - either a salad or a hummus and arugula wrap

My greens and beans stew was very tasty Monday and Tuesday, not so much yesterday. I just can't prep far ahead anymore because I want things fresh.
  • Carla_wfpb
    Carla_wfpb Posts: 1,384 Member
Good tip about Baba's hummus. I'll keep an eye out for it. I use tahini in my homemade version anyway.

The OTC antacid is already helping. I had a much better sleep last night and my breathing is still not great but noticeably better.

I ended up having 2 cups of lower acidity coffee today but still better than the 3 or 4 I normally have.

45 minute walk is done for the day. That alone got me a little over 5000 steps.

I am thinking about traveling in May, Mihani. Not too hot yet but nice weather, and shoulder season to reduce the crowd sizes in more popular areas. We'll still probably avoid the most popular tourist spots. It's not really our thing.

Tonight I'll finally have the salad and half size plantage meal. I think it is going to work well for us. We've already signed up to do the same next week.
  • Mihani
    Mihani Posts: 4,133 Member
Happy to hear the antacid is helping, Carla. Yeah, tourist season would be awful for me too. The more people, the more I wish I was back home.

I way overslept this morning which means there may not be any treadmill since the plan right now is to meet up for a cocktail after work. Tomorrow being Saturday, I can double up on the treadmill time but I'll do my best to get in 5,000 one way or another today.

    Plan for today...
B - sweet potato and steamed broccoli
L - oats with the usual goodies
D - hummus and arugula wrap, an apple

    Gotta go!

We are booked for a cruise in Spain this March! We kept going back and forth on other spots, like Croatia and Albania, but thought for this trip we would keep it simple and relax while the ship takes us around to various Spanish ports. Of course this means we will be in larger and more popular spots, but hopefully since it is March it will be quieter. It could be spring break for some, but there's no set spring break dates as far as I can tell so fingers crossed.

Nothing exciting going on today. Tomorrow we're planning to head out early and go for a drive down the coast and then a walk at one of the parks.

    Happy Friday!

Packing away. Have high hopes to get almost everything done. Brooks just found out yesterday if we submit our receipts the military will pay 60%! And or does not count as our final move to where ever we want. Just saying…we could keep our house in San Antonio and in 2 years buy a small house or apt in Italy, Portugal or Finland! Or WA, NC or Maine.

Dogs to groomers yesterday. Need to get “Bones” aka Obi reweighed as he looks a little chunky compared to 3 months ago. So sad that they were neglecting him. He has been happy lately having bursts of energy and zooming around us with toys. Mr. Grubby pants was not happy going to groomers. Cleo looks like a puppy.

Bisky, looks like you are making great progress on the packing and sorting. Great news on the moving reimbursement. Love the pupper pics.

Got up at 5 am and did 1.25 miles at 2.8. Going to have a cup of tea then get ready and head to the office. One of the other gals is coming in to help. I think I'll go in tomorrow as well, and take Monday off to start getting the house ready for the party and get some of the shopping out of the way.

Plan for today is a total repeat of yesterday. I'll hit up Fresh Thyme on my way home so I'll have to think about what I want to eat over the next week. The scale is trending down slowly but surely. It's just kind of veggies, beans, potatoes, rice, oats, fruit. Nothing fancy, no recipes or meals really, just eating good WFPB food when I'm hungry, and focusing on hunger cues and not eating when I'm not truly hungry.
