Hello Sober October!
Well, here we are at day 1.
I am actually on day 17 alcohol free, and it's been a game changer for me.
PROS
more energy
better mental clarity
more motivation
more time on my hands
improved sleep
mid-day fatigue gone
I have dropped 6lbs.
cravings for junk food and snacking between meals completely gone
Saving money
Cons
NONE!
Joined this sober October but in reality, I'm 100% done drinking the poison for good.
I have attended multiple gatherings alcohol free, and it is getting easier to deal with the peer pressure crowd that simply can't accept that someone chooses health over alcohol. But in the end, I don't care what people think. If they don't like it too bad for them... lol
This month's challenges will be our Canadian Thanksgiving. In November I have 2 weddings. December well Christmas. I am determined to do this...
Cheers!

Happy October 1st!
This is Day 20 for me--planning on going dry through October and indefinitely beyond that.
I'm down about seven pounds so far--it is so much easier to make better choices when I'm not drinking. Hoping to lose another eight pounds for October.
Weight:
Oct 1--226.8
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

I have nothing to post today ☹️5

I am down 3 lbs on Day 8 AF but I am not doing it for weight loss but that is an added plus. I'm doing it so I don't drop dead of liver or heart disease. Not to mention improve all my relationships.
@Xbowhunter I love your list and your attitude!7 -
@SunnyDays930 I have a long list of reasons to quit drinking. But the main reason is what you said, "I want to do it so I don't drop dead of liver or heart disease".5

I'm happy you posted anyway!! That's ok!
Tomorrow is a new day. Give yourself the love you would give a friend who is trying her best.6 -
I gotta say that I am in the "resentful stage". But today I am sober.
I am getting ready for company from out of the country. Cleaning the house after work and making a big pot of bolognese. A bottle of wine would hit the spot.
But I will have a little bit of ice cream instead.5 -
I was listening to the podcast Sober Powered on Spotify. Today, I listened to the episode called "Alcohol and the Heart".
I try to listen to one podcast on the way home from work each day.5 -
@RubyRed427 I had A LOT of ice cream! Whatever it takes in these early days of sobriety. I also watched a 3 minute Sober Powered YouTube about how she finally quit and she said, " you tell yourself I will not drink. I will not drink no matter what." You have to make a total commitment. If you say, "I HOPE I won't drink," you are leaving a crack open. I thought this was really powerful.6

I had my last drink 10 days ago. Ten days ago my resting heart rate was 79. Today it is 69! That is 10 less beats per minute. That is a significant, positive effect of being AF.5

Go RubyRed!! You're doing amazing!3

Going alcohol free is 90% mental and 10% physical. I look at alcohol like I look at bleach. Would I drink bleach? Hello no it will kill me and so will alcohol.
I am now engaged in events that usually were filled with consumption. Last night I worked on a drywall project at my daughters. Last time I did this I had multiple beers. I noticed I had way more energy and when I drove home, I felt great and not tired. Another small win for me! lol5 -
AF now 31 days straight. The happy honeymoon feeling of life is just amazing is over and the wine devil is now starting up in my head, about 2-3x a day, the thought of "you should drive out to Total Wine and get a variety pack of wines for your trip". And "oh they have the rose you like for $9.99 and it's ok to splurge because you've been so good".
So yeah for me at month 2 the challenge becomes me challenging my "damaged" thoughts that pop up at random times with no warning and talking back to my wine devil to say no thank you, keep your fattening poison to yourself. I just hope the frequency of this dwindles and goes away in the coming months. It's can get exhausting to be challenged like this.
You guys are all doing great - this is our month to raise the bar and expect great outcomes from ourselves.7 -
Hope everyone has a great day!3

@SunnyDays930 I googled Sober Powered on YouTube. I found she has a channel with lots of videos. I will try to watch some of them.
I'm not going to list everyone. But you are all doing awesome!3 -
Just checking in!
Tonight, I'm seeing a cousin and his wife that I have not seen in 30 years. I made a nice dinner for us. By text, I asked the couple what they would like to drink. My cousin said he'll drink water, and his wife said she'll drink anything. I was happily surprised. Water! Me, too, cousin!!! LOL
I think it's key to change routines when you're going AF. Change it up. Go somewhere new- coffee shop or tea house.... find an AF bar (they are popping up everywhere). Go workout or take an art class.
I did lament for a minute about Football Sunday coming up, but then I said at least you won't have a hangover on Monday morning and have to drive through McDonald's for a hash brown, breakfast sandwich and a Coke!!! Saving money already!
I also like to search online for "Quitting alcohol timeline: What to expect in 1-3 weeks."
10 AF days in a row
Oct.
2 days AF

@globalhiker Think of the cost of no hangover, no Day 1 again, no guilt and shame at 3 am with a racing heartbeat. Those things are priceless. Hang in there. You've come so far!4

Day 20!! Congrats! Probably Day 21 by now. Keep up the good fight.1 -
@xbowhunter You're doing well! I like your positivity!!
I saw a quiet, older man at work the other day. He said "There's so much to be grateful for." I was stunned because all I said was "hello". It was like a God wink.5
