Good morning, @SunnyDays930 and anyone else checking out this board.
    ~Still AF as of 2/07/25.~
z1ai7ui1vvvq.jpg the scale is going down too! I won't post my weight until my official weigh-in day (Wednesday). I'm in a weight loss challenge on two other boards one ending 3/19/25 and the other ending 4/30/25.

My starting weight was 153 lbs. on January 1st, but I've had A LOT of ups and downs since then. My goals are to get down to the 140's by Spring and to get my BMI below 25 by Summer. I know that if I avoid alcohol 100% that I can and will DO this!

The most important thing in life is to stop saying 'I wish' and start saying 'I will'. - Sober Time's message for February 17, 2025.

    Hi everyone,

I renamed our challenge "SOBER (AF) CHALLENGE (Ongoing)", but left this thread as is so hopefully you have it bookmarked so you can come back to it easily.

    Hello everyone,
I have been stop/starting over the past couple of weeks but am recommitting to a sober streak from today. Same goes for weight watching too but that’s for another board discussion. Was feeling sorry for myself after rolling my ankle while out for a run but am on the mend now.
    Best wishes.

    Hi, @LowTechForever,

I'm so glad you're back and wish you 100% recovery - all around! I quit alcohol again as of February 7th, and though I slipped up on February 11th into the morning of the 12th, I decided not to count it because I want to keep my Soberversary date of February 7th ("Hug an Addict or Alcoholic Day!") and also because my Sober Time app doesn't count until the next day anyway. That was the only, minor lapse I experienced and I will make my very best effort NOT to repeat it!

It's a lot harder to stick to abstinence and/or weight loss efforts when one is injured and in pain. That's completely understandable. What's important is that you're healing, you're still here and you have NOT given up! We can DO this!

Enjoy your day and best wishes for your fresh 🌟*RESET*!🌟

Thank you for your kind words Carole. I agree that it is hard to focus on anything when physical pain is involved but I’m feeling much better and am finishing up my AF evening. I must confess that I’ve never heard of “Hug an Addict or Alcoholic Day”. I will check if it’s a thing in the UK or occurs on a different date. Hugs are always good!

Hi @LowTechForever, I googled it and it looks like it's just a national holiday in the US right now, https://nationaltoday.com/hug-an-addict-or-alcoholic-day/, but no one says someone outside the US can't adopt it if they want, or why not pick your own, special day? A friend of mine and her husband had their 30th anniversary this Valentine's Day and decided together to make it their shared "Soberversary Day" as well.

I am 10 days AF today. Now it is time to tackle the sugar. Yesterday I had various amounts of: Cookies, chocolate cake, gingerbread, peanut butter M&M's, a mini cinnamon roll.....I may be forgetting something. Anyway I do not want to develop diabetes as well as gain weight so today I will try not to consume any sweets.

Hi everyone, Hope your day is going well!
    ~Still AF as of 2/07/25.~
Congratulations on your 10 days AF @sunnydays930!🏆 Wow, that's a LOT of sweets in one day! Fortunately, I don't really crave sweets at all (though I really like dark chocolate), but what gets me in trouble are crunchy, spicy, savory and CHEESE! I also love bread and pasta but I have found reasonable facsimiles that can keep my high carb processed food cravings in check. I have a friend who lives on sweets almost exclusively, and she's 90 years old. She's my height (5'3") and always weighs between 170 and 180 lbs. Have you tried some of the protein meal replacement bars? They can satisfy your sweet tooth and help you feel full, plus many contain lots of protein, fiber and nutrients. This morning I had a "Pure Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter" bar: 200 calories, 20g protein, 7g fat, 17 carbs, 1g fiber, 2g sugar. It does have sucralose though; so if you're avoiding artificial sweeteners, you might not want that. I usually get the "Quest" bars (SO many flavors), because they usually have a lot of fiber so they're more satisfying.

    Have a great day!

    Hi everyone,

Hope your day is going well.
    ~Mostly AF as of 2/07/25.~

(I'm just being honest about above, because frankly I have had a couple of slip-ups since my latest restart, but I still want toc ount the 7th as my start date because that's when I really started to get serious about my efforts to remain truly alcohol FREE! For the most part I actually have abstained (with a couple of minor lapses), but I don't intend to repeat those going forward, because it's definitely not helping me to achieve my wellness goals, and I simply cannot stay within my budget limits and continue to lose weight if I keep slipping up!

I promise to admit openly to this group of I fall off the path again, but I am hereby committing to stay sober from now on!

The lady from whom I adopted my cat is supposed to visit from Rockland tomorrow; so I have to use this time to clean house and get ready for her. I've been stalling (I'm on my third cup of coffee right now) but I've got to get moving! I will sign off for now, but I will check back in soon.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Hi everyone,
    ~Mostly AF as of 2/07/25.~

I'm so glad it's warming up in Boston and all the ice and snow are starting to MELT - YAYY!

Maybe I'll be able to walk home all five days this week (2.3 miles each way). HOPE so! I need to incorporate more activity.

The lady from whom I adopted my cat came to visit yesterday and guess what? NOW the cat is hiding from her! I'm going to seal off the other rooms so I can try to keep her in the living room when Rachel comes again in April.

    Have a great day!

I will check back in tomorrow.

Hi everyone (or maybe just "Hi, me" for now),

That's okay; I'm hanging in there, because imperfect though I am, I'm in this for the long haul!

I slipped up again; so I've decided to cancel my latest effort and kickstart again. I will set my new "Soberversary" date as March 1st, but I am quitting as of right now! >BOOM!<

I will use the next few days (Wednesday through Friday) to "dry out" and "gear up", in order to get ready for my official, fresh reset on Saturday! (It's hard to believe we're almost in March!)

I hope to hear from some of my friends on this board soon! I wish you well - whatever you decide - and send you love and prayers!

I will plan to rename the challenge, "Sober Again" or something but will leave this board as is so you can easily find it again.

    Ciao for now!

    Hi Carole,
You can get right back on track. I am on day 3 AF. I wasn't going to post until I had 7 days in a row. That may be tough because we are going away this weekend, and we love wine and dine. We shall see.

    Ciao! <3

    Hi Carole,

Thank you for keep saying "Hi everyone"!

I too fell off the wagon again and am back on Day 3. Also off this weekend to see our son in Cardiff so there may be some eating out involved.

    Hi, everyone,

@RubyRed427 and @LowTechForever, so glad you're BACK! You are both 3 days' FREE ahead of me! That's fine. It's not a "competition" - we're more like a support group, although I am challenging myself!

No alcohol today and I won't have any for Thursday or Friday either (I have literally NO money available until March 6th!) but I will plan to reset my AF counter on Saturday, the First day of March!

Have a great evening. I will make sure to check in daily!

I went 15 days AF then drank the last 2 nights. Last night I had an entire bottle of wine and I threw up all night and felt like %$#! most of today. I may have a stomach bug too, or more likely, I just can't handle it anymore. My face looks like I have the measles with broken red capillaries all over it. For me, alcohol is truly poison. Then I just saw on the news Michelle Trachtenburg just died after a recent liver transplant. 39 years old. So sad and a wake up call for those that don't see the harm in drinking.

    Hi everyone,

    ~Last alcoholic beverage: 03/01/2025, 6:30pm.~
Dear @SunnyDays930, I'm so sorry for all you went through over your recent bout! My skin is horrible after a drinking binge as well. I agree that alcohol truly IS poison! (Very sad news about Michelle!) I hope your symptoms are all gone by morning. 15 days AF is a significant accomplishment!

I reset my Sober Time app to 7pm, March 1st. I really went overboard with both eating AND drinking over the past few days, but all that ends NOW!

Have a pleasant Sunday. I will check back in before the end of the day. Take care!

On tonight's newscast, a drunk 23 year old hit a 16 year old high school Jr. and killed her. Countless lives traumatized forever.
I am giving up alcohol for Lent and hopefully longer, but that is my immediate short term goal.

    Hello everyone,

Back on Day 3 again. Went out for a couple of meals while visiting my son in Cardiff over the weekend. Saturday was St. David's Day, the patron saint of Wales, so it was very lively and plenty of daffodils on display. Didn't overindulge despite the great atmosphere and sunny weather in the capital city, and restricted myself to a couple of glasses of wine with the meal.

Day 4 AF and like I said, I intend to stay dry through Lent, at least. I've been having vertigo so it has been easy not to drink for now.

    Hi everyone,

I've been having a really "off" week and my lifestyle has gone "off the rails" with eating and drinking alcohol.

I started over again around 7pm on March 4th, also known as "March Forth"! That's what I plan to do. What's done is done; so back to square ONE!

    AF since 03/04/2025, 7pm.

"Get ready to march forth and conquer your goals on March 4 – also known as March Forth Day! This unique holiday encourages people to take charge of their lives and move forward with determination and courage."

    STILL not giving up!

    Have a great day,

    💗Carole

Well, my goal of no candy for Lent has already been ruined but not really badly as I had 2 Hershey kisses yesterday. But, I am staying AF which is far more important to me. Still a little sick and going to the Dr tomorrow. Today is day 5 without alcohol. It is easier doing this for a reason (Lent) instead of just for myself. My weight has been up and down and was down yesterday because I have been sick. It is actually good that it is up 2 lbs today as I was really dehydrated. I have been drinking a ton of Gatorade. It makes me feel a lot better. Have a healthy day, Friends.

    Hi everyone,

So, the verdict is IN! (I promised to be honest…) I weighed myself this morning and was 157, FOUR POUNDS higher than my January 1 weight of 153. My best hope at this point is to get back to 153 by Spring and then set my sights on losing ten pounds (or more) by Summer (June 20th). I still think I can do it.

I injured my feet. I have plantar fasciitis in my right heel and some kind of pain on the top of my left foot (NO idea what THAT is)! I will try to walk more but I definitely cannot go fast. After I walk for about 5-10 minutes the pain starts to ease up. I hope it goes away soon!

In the meantime, I plan to be more diligent about keeping a food diary and absolutely NO alcoholic beverages will be consumed! I set my maximum calories per day at 1,450, but if I can go below that to try to speed things up, I will. (My appetite is so HUGE!)

    AF since 03/04/2025, 7pm.

Have a great day, (S*P*R*I*N*G is now only TWO WEEKS away - YAY!)

    @SunnyDays930, Day 5 - that's GREAT! I hope you feel better soon!

    💖Carole

Okay...TRUE CONFESSIONS: I'm sitting in a bar right now having a beer with a friend - so OOPS!

PLEASE, don't get me wrong - I am taking this seriously, but I've decided to jumpstart EVERYTHING on March 20th: Logging, activity, abstinence -the whole shebang! I'm even planning to reset my start date with MFP!

I've updated the description for this group as follows:

"Hello and welcome! I've decided to "reboot" my alcohol-free challenge to coincide with my brand-new, MFP "SPRING into SUMMER"🌼 reset! Feel free to jump in and join this challenge, wherever you might be on this journey. This is a judgement-free, supportive group and we welcome anyone who would like to join us! 🎉" The ultimate goal is to quit alcohol completely, but I know that there are sometimes "bumps in the road". Here we go again! 💞

I'm on my 6th day AF. Started before Lent because frankly, I was sick. I intend to keep going until Easter without exception, even though between now and then we have my husband's birthday, St patty's day, and our anniversary. I will have to flex some willpower muscle in there!

Have a healthy day and a fab weekend, Everyone!
