    Hello everyone,

Happy Weekend! Looking forward to more hours of daylight!

Hi, @sunnydays930! Thanks so much for your post, above! I love your attitude! I hope things ease up a bit for you! I how you feel better soon!

I do not like this new editor. It doesn't look like it's saving drafts anymore and it seems like "@" tags aren't working either! Boo.

From today through March 19th we have 12 days. I will be resetting my fitness pal starting date to Thursday, March 20th. I will also rest my Sober Time app on the 20th, even though I'm not planning to have any more alcohol until then. I will make sure to post honestly if I lapse. I'm still going to keep a food and activity diary; however, and I will also post my Thursday weights.

    Enjoy "springing forward" tomorrow!

    💞 Carole

I don't like the new editor either and I am too old to learn new things!

I had plantar fasciitus for a year once. It was so awful, so I feel for you. I tried everything to get rid of it. I wore a boot at night that flexed my foot all night. I tried physical therapy for weeks. I tried a specially made insert by the foot doctor.

One thing that helped was always wear a shoe around your house. It could be a house shoe with support (you don't wear it outside). No barefeet until it clears up. I even tried a very painful cortisone shot the doctor put into my foot. Ouch! That didn't even help. So, I have no other tips except for always wear a shoe until it's gone. Then magically it disappeared.

From then on, I never wear flats or shoes without a good support, even if they're ugly shoes. LOL

I had that cortisone shot in my heels too, when I had it years ago.

Hi! My SPRING into SUMMER group will be starting up soon. It will run 13 weeks from Thursday, March 20th through Friday, June 20th, in which time I hope to lose 10-15 lbs. You are welcome to join me there!

    Enjoy your day,

Ruby Red, do you only wear one shoe around the house?

If anyone is in need of some escapism tv, we are enjoying "Shrinking" on Apple TV +. We weren't going to add anymore streaming services but we had to see what all the fuss was about Ted Lasso…that did not disappoint. Besides, I spend what it costs for a month of this service on one cocktail at happy hour. And since I am on Day 8 AF it has more than paid for itself.

    Happy Sunday, everyone!

No alcohol yesterday. (This is Day 2 of my "detox period" before Sober Time app reset on March 20th.)

@SunnyDays930 - Your story about the cost of indulging in a streaming service for a month vs. having one cocktail is a great way to help us understand how expensive alcohol is and how we can soothe and treat ourselves (and "escape") in other ways!

For example, I bought some pine nuts and toasted them before adding them to a quinoa pilaf I made yesterday. It was so good! After rinsing and toasting the red and white quinoa, I cooked it in veggie broth with onion, garlic, spices, ground turkey and green peas. I wouldn't have splurged on the pine nuts if I had been out drinking. It was a very special meal! (I also have leftovers for two other meals.)

Today I'll be doing some spring cleaning. It's sunny and crisp in Boston and the gusty wind we've had for a few days has finally calmed down.

    Enjoy your day!

    Hi everyone,

My heel pain is almost gone (right foot) and I have a cream called Penetrex that is helping with the pain in my top left foot. (I also have compression socks on.) I want to start my commute walking to and from work again 2.3 miles, each way; so hopefully I can get rid of this so I can work my speed back up to 4mph.

Looking forward to the longer daylight today!

    Have a nice evening,

    ❤️ Carole

I am on Day 12 without alcohol. I am stuck on my weight right now because I have had a burst of cravings for sweets. It is ok, I expected this and I am not denying myself, just trying to control it a bit. It has been a little more tempting to drink some wine as the weather is beautiful and I would love to sit on the sunny deck with a cold glass of Chardonnay, but I am powering through.

    Hi everyone,

Happy Weekend! Still having foot pain issues, but it's gradually improving, day-by-day.

So I've been drinking again, off and on, but I hereby pledge that over three next five days before my brand-new, official Spring reset. I'm not going to touch ANY alcohol so I can start fresh 100% alcohol-FREE!

I'm placing to be extra careful with calories as well, and I will try to get more activity in.

The scale said 159 on Thursday. That's not great, but I'm not discouraged. I'm really looking forward to Thursday, March 20th - the first day of SPRING!🌱

I will check back in then.

    Enjoy your day,

    💞 Carole

    Hello everyone

It’s been a beautiful Spring day here in London. The Sober Spring challenge kicks off today in the UK with support from Alcohol Change UK, the charity that runs the Dry January challenge. Sober Spring runs for 92 days through to 20 June and is intended for those wishing to reboot if they fell back into old ways after doing Dry January. The three months fits in nicely with the weight loss challenge being run by Carole @Walela617 so I’m hoping for a double boost.

    Hi everyone,

So glad you are still here! I quit (again) a day BEFORE Spring, (March 19th) because sometimes the first day of Spring falls on the 19th and I want to be able to celebrate my Soberversary every Spring! (Sure, I'm optimistic, aren't I?)

Anyway, I will report Alcohol-Free as "AF" from the start date and will also post milestones coinciding with those in my Sober Time app.

AF since March 19th, 2025 - HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!

Milestones so far: "First Five Minutes", "Clean Hour", "Day One".

My scale said, "158.4 lbs." as of 6:30am this morning. (I will post more stats on my Spring into Summer challenge board.

Hi @LowTechForever I love the idea of a Sober Spring challenge like they're doing in the UK. I'm totally IN!

Have a great day. I will try to check in daily going forward so I can keep accountable.

03/20/25: 2,060 calories (Fasted on the 19th and most of the 18th due to colonoscopy prep), 9,628 steps.

I just remembered that I didn't have any alcohol on the 18th either (again, due to the colonoscopy prep - nor on the weekend before Monday, but I'm still just counting from the 19th.

Day 20 AF. 30 Days until Easter which is the end of Lent which is my challenge. If I make it 50 days it will the longest I have been sober since my last pregnancy 34 years ago.

I am thinking much more clearly. My skin is glowing. My sleep is better. My mood is stable though I still get bouts of depression about various goings on in the world but I know alcohol will make it worse. My weight is stuck but we just ordered a treadmill and I know I will use it. I used to go walking on one nearly every morning at our old community center at 6 am but the CC here where we moved doesn't open until 10. That doesn't work for my schedule. Anyway I hope this gets me out of my weight rut. We will see.

    Happy weekend to all!

    Hello everyone,

    Happy Weekend!

@SunnyDays930 - 20 days! That's wonderful! It's really inspiring and encouraging, especially your sharing about how much better you look and feel!

I didn't know Easter was in 30 days! It's pretty late this year, right?

We're all experiencing bouts of depression these days. My son (41) even went to the doctor about his. You are managing very well!

It's awesome that you got a treadmill! That gives you a lot of flexibility for activity without travel time!

AF since 03/19/25 (After 24 hours' "detox")

Today is supposed to be sunny and near 60° in Boston. I plan to be doing housework and how to open my windows.

Enjoy your day. I will check back in tomorrow.

    💞Carole

    Hi friends,

Congrats Sunny Days on your 20 days! I imagine you are feeling amazing! You should be proud!

Hi Carole, Congrats on 3 days! It all makes a difference!

Regarding depression, if it's mild, you can take fish oil capsules. They are tasteless and in the vitamin aisle. I once attended a seminar on brain health, and the expert said during the winter months in cold climates where there is little sun, we need more than just vitamin D, we need fish oil vitamins. They take a while to work, maybe a month. I take them all winter long and I think it helps. I'm happy your son is going to the doctor. 💙

    Hi everyone,

GREAT news, @SunnyDays930! Where are you going to keep the treadmill? Can you tell us the make and model so we can check it out?

My "treadmill" will be the commute to and from work (whenever my feet and the weather cooperate, that is). I also have workout DVD's. I hate to call them that because activity should ideally be something we enjoy, not "work"! Many of my DVD's are dance videos as well as some walking, strength training and yoga videos (also Zumba). I want to get into all that again. It really helps me mentally and emotionally as well as physically. I have hills hope as well. Hooping always cheers me up. I might start that again too...

    AF since 03/19/25

Today's inspiring quote from the "SOBER TIME" app is: "It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop."

Great news! When I had my colonoscopy on 3/19, my blood pressure and heart rate remained substantially elevated the entire time. Today, after 5 days alcohol-free, the reading was much better:

This is much closer to my typical readings when not drinking, which is below 120 for systolic and lower 60's for diastolic.

I will take my readings again next Sunday, but I'm encouraged by this improvement!

    Hi everyone,

AF since 03/19/25! (Completed 7 days; next day is counted at midnight, but I wanted to post this morning. I'll post the 8 days once I'm "safe at home base" this evening. Tomorrow is Weigh-In Day for my challenge!)

    Latest "Sober Time" milestone:

(I figured out how to make it smaller!) - Does anyone know how to center text now?

Today's inspiring quote from the "SOBER TIME" app is: "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."

    Helpful tip:

**If you're on a desktop computer or laptop, Shift+Enter should give you a single line return (instead of the default double line). I haven't figured out how to do this from the phone on the app yet, but if I do, I will make sure to share with the group!**
