Hello everyone. I was looking around the website for a group to join. I am an empty nester, divorced and still working. I am back focusing on my healthy goals that I have struggled with most my life.

I started back to the pool daily about a month ago. I like to walk and want to incorporate simple weight lifting to get stronger.

I have gained and lost the last three years so I realize it is a mind game for me to meet some of my goals.

Welcome to our group, Irene. We are all going through what you are going through so let's get it done this time.

My husband and I have been retired 10 years and love it! Our daughter and her family live about 3 miles from us. We watch both our Grandsons during the week. Collin is 2 and we have him in the morning. Ronan is 8 and we have him after school. These boys keep us pretty busy!!

I have my trainer three times a week for 60 mins. and try to walk the other 4 days. The walking doesn't always get done…😁 My trainer is ill today, so I'm putting on my shoes to go out the door now. I'm going to what we call the Ruins and back.

    That's it for now.

Wednesday: 10 minutes full body stretch, 25 minutes full body strength and 30 minutes treadmill on incline.

Welcome Irene. This is a small group of very fun and supportive ladies who are determined to meet our goals.

I’m 6 years retired and spent the last 5 years being the caregiver for my parents. They have both passed so I’m learning how to live my life again on my own.

Chris my bestie and I have committed to starting to walk more when I get back from vacation.

Shelley my birthday is May 26. I’m so happy you’re enjoying retirement. It only gets better.

Paula the scale is moving again for you. So happy.

Take care ladies I leave May 20 and return May 27th. I will post when I’m able.

We had Collin this morning and Ronan this afternoon. I had my trainer for a 60 min workout this afternoon.

Wednesday I did get 5.05 miles done in 107 mins, and Thursday both Pat and I took Collin out in the stroller to the farm and around. So many squirrels out and about! WOW!!! It was beautiful.

It really windy here. It's supposed to be 22 mph tomorrow morning at 8:00 when I was planning to walk…hmmmm…we'll see.

23 mph wind has kept me inside so far today. Pushes you around. I think it's a good excuse to sit, read and drink coffee.😁🌬️🍵

    Chris,

I think you made a good call. Those gusts can seriously knock me off balance nowadays. If you're the same, the last thing you need is to be knocked down again!

I just got back from helping friends (with bad backs) pick up folding chairs and tables for their potluck tomorrow - I was the muscle, LOL! Grateful that Sue's son took pity on us and helped with the hills!!! When I volunteered, I'd forgot that moving stuff in La Honda involves long steep driveways.

I got 5.42 miles done in 110 mins to the post office and back yesterday. Then DH and I made soup.

Today we have Collin right now…we are playing w/dragon, eating yogurt and waffles and playing w/play doh! I have my trainer at noon and then Pat p/u Ronan from school.

Then I have to clean the house before our housekeeper gets here tomorrow morning.

    That's all for now.

In Keto, I usually avoid carbs but sometimes my body needs fiber (despite the carbs) just to run right. Last night I had a couple of corn thins (like mini rice cakes) and dozed off. Hunger pangs are more common than cravings in Keto. So this morning, mild cravings piqued my curiosity.

I wondered if those carbs had primed* my metabolism? Since I hadn't had breakfast yet (thus no Keto fuel was available), maybe it'd been slightly triggered to look for carbs as alternatives? Maybe I needed to redirect it to proteins and oil?

I ate some walnuts with Keto fudge (1 scoop protein powder + 1/2oz unflavored olive oil) and sure enough, no more cravings. Gonna try to remember "If craving carbs -> offer Keto fuel first." I hope it works again.

*My body seems to prefer carbs as fuel. If no carbs (or alcohol) are available; only then will it look for fat as fuel. It takes weeks of carb-abstinence to force it to stay switched. But once it's in a fat-burning mode, it is not easily derailed by a few carbs.

A lot of carbs, however, are a different story. It seems easier to switch back to carb-burning, only requiring a few days of carb-availability to revert.

So, a few carbs are okay. But even a normal meal of carbs, in one sitting, will trigger cravings - and put me in a “fight for my health” mode. And giving in to an average amount of daily carbs - for 2-3 days - will completely kick me out of Keto.

Paula that keto plan for cravings sounds interesting. Let me now what you discover. Thewind here in Wyoming can knock even healthy men off their feet.

Chris I am so glad you are walking again. Ronan in 8! How did that happen. I remember when he was a baby. He was a happy little guy.

Kathy I am so happy that you are working out with friends more all the time. That really is the key to success.

It rained all day. Went to yoga this morning. Then had brunch with hubby. One egg, one muffin an a bite of some fancy bacon. Yuch. I will stick to thick cut bacon from now on.

I did manage a few laps around the house between cloud bursts. And then went to look at a large aquarium in a vets office. They can't find a replacement person to care for it. I was looking to buy some of their rocks. In the end I volunteered to help with the tank until they could find someone else. The tank is 500 gallons. And the fish are huge. They wouldn't survive a transfer probably.

I have leg day tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Irene nice to meet you. Share some recipes with us. I could use some healthy meals to try
