Hello everyone. I was looking around the website for a group to join. I am an empty nester, divorced and still working. I am back focusing on my healthy goals that I have struggled with most my life.

I started back to the pool daily about a month ago. I like to walk and want to incorporate simple weight lifting to get stronger.

I have gained and lost the last three years so I realize it is a mind game for me to meet some of my goals.

Welcome to our group, Irene. We are all going through what you are going through so let's get it done this time.

My husband and I have been retired 10 years and love it! Our daughter and her family live about 3 miles from us. We watch both our Grandsons during the week. Collin is 2 and we have him in the morning. Ronan is 8 and we have him after school. These boys keep us pretty busy!!

I have my trainer three times a week for 60 mins. and try to walk the other 4 days. The walking doesn't always get done…😁 My trainer is ill today, so I'm putting on my shoes to go out the door now. I'm going to what we call the Ruins and back.

    That's it for now.

Wednesday: 10 minutes full body stretch, 25 minutes full body strength and 30 minutes treadmill on incline.

Welcome Irene. This is a small group of very fun and supportive ladies who are determined to meet our goals.

I’m 6 years retired and spent the last 5 years being the caregiver for my parents. They have both passed so I’m learning how to live my life again on my own.

Chris my bestie and I have committed to starting to walk more when I get back from vacation.

Shelley my birthday is May 26. I’m so happy you’re enjoying retirement. It only gets better.

Paula the scale is moving again for you. So happy.

Take care ladies I leave May 20 and return May 27th. I will post when I’m able.

We had Collin this morning and Ronan this afternoon. I had my trainer for a 60 min workout this afternoon.

Wednesday I did get 5.05 miles done in 107 mins, and Thursday both Pat and I took Collin out in the stroller to the farm and around. So many squirrels out and about! WOW!!! It was beautiful.

It really windy here. It's supposed to be 22 mph tomorrow morning at 8:00 when I was planning to walk…hmmmm…we'll see.

23 mph wind has kept me inside so far today. Pushes you around. I think it's a good excuse to sit, read and drink coffee.😁🌬️🍵

    Chris,

I think you made a good call. Those gusts can seriously knock me off balance nowadays. If you're the same, the last thing you need is to be knocked down again!

I just got back from helping friends (with bad backs) pick up folding chairs and tables for their potluck tomorrow - I was the muscle, LOL! Grateful that Sue's son took pity on us and helped with the hills!!! When I volunteered, I'd forgot that moving stuff in La Honda involves long steep driveways.

I got 5.42 miles done in 110 mins to the post office and back yesterday. Then DH and I made soup.

Today we have Collin right now…we are playing w/dragon, eating yogurt and waffles and playing w/play doh! I have my trainer at noon and then Pat p/u Ronan from school.

Then I have to clean the house before our housekeeper gets here tomorrow morning.

    That's all for now.

In Keto, I usually avoid carbs but sometimes my body needs fiber (despite the carbs) just to run right. Last night I had a couple of corn thins (like mini rice cakes) and dozed off. Hunger pangs are more common than cravings in Keto. So this morning, mild cravings piqued my curiosity.

I wondered if those carbs had primed* my metabolism? Since I hadn't had breakfast yet (thus no Keto fuel was available), maybe it'd been slightly triggered to look for carbs as alternatives? Maybe I needed to redirect it to proteins and oil?

I ate some walnuts with Keto fudge (1 scoop protein powder + 1/2oz unflavored olive oil) and sure enough, no more cravings. Gonna try to remember "If craving carbs -> offer Keto fuel first." I hope it works again.

    Paula

*My body seems to prefer carbs as fuel. If no carbs (or alcohol) are available; only then will it look for fat as fuel. It takes weeks of carb-abstinence to force it to stay switched. But once it's in a fat-burning mode, it is not easily derailed by a few carbs.

A lot of carbs, however, are a different story. It seems easier to switch back to carb-burning, only requiring a few days of carb-availability to revert.

So, a few carbs are okay. But even a normal meal of carbs, in one sitting, will trigger cravings - and put me in a “fight for my health” mode. And giving in to an average amount of daily carbs - for 2-3 days - will completely kick me out of Keto.

Paula that keto plan for cravings sounds interesting. Let me now what you discover. Thewind here in Wyoming can knock even healthy men off their feet.

Chris I am so glad you are walking again. Ronan in 8! How did that happen. I remember when he was a baby. He was a happy little guy.

Kathy I am so happy that you are working out with friends more all the time. That really is the key to success.

It rained all day. Went to yoga this morning. Then had brunch with hubby. One egg, one muffin an a bite of some fancy bacon. Yuch. I will stick to thick cut bacon from now on.

I did manage a few laps around the house between cloud bursts. And then went to look at a large aquarium in a vets office. They can't find a replacement person to care for it. I was looking to buy some of their rocks. In the end I volunteered to help with the tank until they could find someone else. The tank is 500 gallons. And the fish are huge. They wouldn't survive a transfer probably.

I have leg day tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Irene nice to meet you. Share some recipes with us. I could use some healthy meals to try

We had Collin this morning. Ronan is here now playing w/Grandpa and doing homework.

I finished cleaning up before our housekeeper got here. Now I'm doing nothing. Hot outside and windy today.

    That's all.

Chris I bet she loves you for it.

Went to two of my granddaughters concerts tonight. They had one singer and the rest was band. They were very good.

Planted some more annuals today. And one miniature orange rose. I really like mini roses for a pop of color. And they are so easy!

Still doing yoga. I noticed it helps my leg day. Nice, since I dislike leg day.

Spent a couple hours cleaning 2 of my aquariums. They look great. I even used twizzers and caught some nasty bristle worms also. Now I am resting.

    Kathy have a great time!

Paula I bounce all the time.

Yoga this morning. Then time at the cabin. A trio of mountain lions took down a deer on our property a week ago. They were triplets. They will separate soon.

Getting ready to plant a clematis on Friday. Prepping the area now.

Shelley, what are your Granddaughter's parts in the concert? Sara has one coming up on June 8th that we'll be going to. She loves to sing!! Wow!! mountain lions on your property!! Crazy scary!!!

I am up and down on the scale, too. Makes me crazy!!

We had Collin this morning then I had my trainer for a 60 min workout this afternoon. I'll be so glad when I can start lifting weights again!! We have Ronan right now. Pat will be taking him home shortly.

That's all I have for now.

Yeah, it's a little tougher to get my walks in with the Grandsons here every weekday…sigh…I'll just deal with it.

We had Collin this morning, Ronan was p/u early from school by his parents after they finished packing the car for their trip to Disneyland for the three/four day weekend. There is no school tomorrow or Monday. It was 80 degrees w/20 mph wind after they left which kinda made the decision for me. I have my trainer tomorrow so Saturday and Sunday are looking good…maybe…🤔

I'm going to try and finish my book today.

Mountain lions make me nervous also Chris. I would be heartbroken if they got one of my dogs. I think I will be carrying my weapon up there.

Kathy what a coincidence. We have the same middle name. Bounce!

Paula was there anything in the spoiler? I expected to open it and have a very large kitty jump out at me. 😃

So a few years ago I planted some Lily of the Valley for my grandmother. She loved them.

Well that was a mistake. Now I am going to have to dig up the entire bed. It is 33 foot long bed. It will be a spring project for next year. I will just keep cutting off any green I see for now.

    IMG_4491.jpeg IMG_4466.jpeg

Here is the bed in question. Every little root has to go or it will be right back!

What did I miss, Shelley?? Why are you digging up the pretty flowers? I wish my bed along the fence in the back yard looked like that. I have male gardeners and I'm lucky to have a few rose trees for color…sign.

Had my trainer this afternoon. It is really nice outside. I hope tomorrow is the same.

Kids are at Disney having a ball!

I'm going to eat Ritz crackers and pb, drink coffee and read now.

I did 6.09 miles in 130 mins this afternoon. It was a good walk until the last mile and a half…my feet were cryin' and I was so slow! Plus it got a little warm out there. I did take my umbrella. There were a lot of folks out there and puppies and squirrels and one lizard.

Well, I'm gonna drink coffee and read for a while. I hope you are all having a great Saturday.

We've got gloomy overcast for the last couple of days here on the coast. It's strange knowing how beautiful the rest of the bay area is.

Good weather for working out though. I did a quick 15 minute walk this morning. And this afternoon, I used a weed whacker for the first time. I only stopped after noticing my arm was getting tired. I can barely pick it up, it's just drained.

I suspect it'll have that "really good worn out" feeling tomorrow.

    Paula

  • zumbaforever
    zumbaforever Posts: 7,181 Member

Kathy that will be a great feeling. I can see you using it. Get it girl!

Chris that bed has lily of the valley taking over. So it's going to get an overhaul! Maybe I will turn it into a rose bed.

Ok now have you ever thought you wanted something a certain way. And then you see it and realize it wasn't what you really wanted?

I wanted a 10 foot tall trelis for my new clematis. Like really? What was I thinking? And Rocky and I did it. My arms are a bit sore from helping carrying it. Then lifting it into place. There is 32 inches below ground.

    IMG_4519.jpeg IMG_4513.jpeg

Before and after we set it into place. Just have to remove the board used to help carry it. Then I can plant my newest clematis.

    Whoa, Shelley.

That looks even taller after it was planted in the ground - more than when it was propped up against the fence.

Shelley, it's sooo tall!! Good luck with it. We'll need pictures you know.

Got to sleep in this morning! I did nothing today except drink coffee and read. I'm pretty happy! I'm gonna say it was too windy at 20 mph right now.

I have my trainer tomorrow and nothing else. i wonder if the gardeners are gong to come or if they are taking the day off. We'll see.

    That's it.

    Chris

  • zumbaforever
    zumbaforever Posts: 7,181 Member

Hmmm, Paula it does look pretty tall either way. Should have seen s carry it over to the fence. Barely missed my apple tree. That thing was heavy. The wood was really green. Which means it was still wet and heavy.

Chris you earned days like that. Just recharging yourself. Have a great workout today.

    IMG_4516.jpeg

Here is a photo of one of the holes Rocky dug for the trellis. About 33 inches deep.

    IMG_4527.jpeg

And the 2 baby clematis planted. Soil was amended first . They better get growing.

We went on a 2 mile hike with the dogs. Took them onto the mountain. They had so much fun. Asuna tried to make friends. But the other dog wasn't up for it. It was a beautiful day.

    Happy Birthday Kathy!
