    Happy August, Friends!!

    August Goals
    Milage Tracked 70
Apple Challenge: 15 walks of 5 minutes of more. 1/15

Last month I didn't reach my milage goal but did get my Monthly Appl medalian. The heat and air quality can definatly put a damper on things. I ended up being busier with work than I though so that was a bit of a side bonus. I'm not sure what August will look like for work. Being self employed isn't for everyone, and come days its not for me. 😜 However, it does allow me to make my on schedule which help to care for Ryan.

The air quality alert has been extended through Saturday night. Poor Ry is look stuck inside on what normal would be perfect riding weather. When he does step outside he struggles to breath, he syas its like an can't get enough oxygen. 🥲 On the bright side, Sunday look to be rather good on the weather map so fingers crossed we can get out to the Park Sunday.

Today I did my personal training session for 30 minutes and did my theater in the park "workout" tonight. I will post my August goals tomorrow.

    My August Goals:

    1) Complete three of my coach's workouts per week on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. From now to mid-August, the weekly workouts will consist of two personal training sessions + 1 Redline class. Then mid-August and on, I will be doing three Redline classes per week. (Redline is a HIIT strength & conditioning group class workout).

    2) Do Tai Chi on Wednesdays

    3) Walk Dottie and do yoga whenever it works

    4) Attend other workouts for fun such as Step, Boot Camp, etc. (optional)

It's Saturday so I did a short 10 minute walk with Improved Health.
    Air Quality still sucks.

@Elfirose33 I like your Fun/Optional workout goal. Do you use any weights in the Redline class?

Good morning everyone. Vacation is over. It was fun and relaxing, but now it’s back to MFP tracking and slaying goals.

August weekly goals: Track and record every bite of food, three 30 min Leslie, two 20 min Leslie, two after dinner walks, and at least 10,000 steps daily. I really need to strengthen and tone. I know the benefits, especially at 62, but just can’t seem to get motivated. I’ll get thru August and maybe make it a September goal?

Today, I'm taking an intenional rest day. The Wildfire smoke increased yesterday and by the forecast it looks like it's here for another week. 😖 I may have to make changes to your den where the exercise items are and set up the bike trainer for Ryan b/c of the poor air quality. Last night my high school BFF came over and cut Ryan's hair. She been doing this monthly for abotu 3-4 months now it's been a huge help. 1 less appointment to travel for. Afterwards we get to have a few hours of catch up as a nice bonus.

@lclark04957 Welcome back! I'm also working on adding strength and balance traning to my routine. I did pretty good in July. I try to keep those workouts shorter. 10-15 miuntes right now. I've found several upper body workout online. I have to start looking for more balance focues ones next. My biggest struggle is still diet however.

Yesterday I gardened for two hours, slow and easy, as a way to try and recover from a very full, long and intense week so far. Last night I did my "workout" at the theater in the park (hauled music gear and then played trumpet for hours on end).

@Deeder522 Good job on your walk and getting your Apple monthly medallion! So sorry for Ry having to be inside on nice weather days. And now for yet another week, that's awful. Yesterday and the day before that our weather brought smoke to my area, which we were all out in for hours on end at theater in the park. I hope your air clears soon. It's perfect that you are self-employed with an adjustable schedule. And, very cool, haircuts at home are awesome! Double awesome with your BFF. Thanks! Yes, we are using weights, mostly dumbbells, in the Redline class. We start out using lighter weights at the beginning of class and gradually increase up from there by the end.

@lclark04957 Good to see you! Glad you had a nice vacation 💜 Great goal plan for August! Adding strength in September sounds super! And then you get the benefit of a grace period all of August to see it coming and prepare for it, which I think is so helpful. Just a thought:) Aw, thank you SO much for telling me that! So very glad I can bring some inspiration your way 😊

August Goals: Beginning Aug 10: 3 Leslie Workouts per week and TEZ 2 times each week. Beginning Aug 1-Garmin:Step into August: 100,000 steps by Aug 15: August Step Challenge: 300,000 steps in August: 15 hours of walking recorded in August: 20 activities of at least 20 minutes in August: August Step Podium: Ongoing: 91 walking miles by 9/30: Continue Carmino de Santiago trail hike: (487.2 miles total)

Aug 1-20 minute indoor walk: Miles: 6.4

Aug 2-25 minute indoor walk: Miles: 7.3

Aug 3-30 minute indoor walk: Miles:

Well, July was a bust! I only met a couple of goals one of which was completing the Rheinsteig Trail hike😂! YEAH! My son and I hiked one mountain, and we wanted to hike a second one, but we have a herd of moose who have taken over our mountain, so the rangers closed it for hiking to protect both hikers and the moose! Only in NY ya know?????? 🤣 I have loved having my whole family here though and since I lost weight and met my 300,000 steps in July goal, I should be chill right??????

August has started with some troubles for Dennis. Some of you know that he had a stent and heart valve inserted 2 years ago and a pace maker last year. Apparently, when a new valve in inserted, it can cause some of the electrical activity in the heart to malfunction. This did not happen with Dennis right away. However, once the pace maker was installed, they discovered he has developed afib also as a result of the valve replacement. 🙄 He has been asymptomatic until last week when he experienced shortness of breath and heart rate numbers in the 120-160 range, which is not good at all!!!! So, off we went to the cardiologist and they have upped his heart slow down meds, increase his diuretic meds and stopped his BP meds. If it is not one thing, it is another right??? We need to hang out @Deeder522 and commiserate on the issues our husbands have! 😉 Anyway, lest any of you worry, he is very happy with his MD's directive to sit and relax and no Fit For Life workouts until his heart rates numbers are consistently below 80BPM! Dennis is quite happy at the moment, except he has developed a summer cold!!!! Serves him right!!!! 😎

Until today, we have escaped the Canadian wild fire smoke issues that you all experienced in July, but today we are at 131 air quality soooo, even the trees in our mountains cannot keep up! Dennis stays inside obviously, but in truth, we do not see anything on our truck nor does the air seem as dusty as it did last year and we do not smell it as we did last year. The sun is super red though so we are not risking it. My kids come home from downstate today and we warned them.

I will do the best I can in August, but I am planning to be back very regularly after Aug 6 when the last of my children return home! I read everyone's posts from July and you are all rock stars compared to me! But I will catch up! I am so sorry @megd44 that you have experienced so much stress from your work and volunteer actives, but I comfort myself by saying "this too shall pass" as "all things must pass" (George Harrison on the second one). Clearly @Elfirose33 , you kept up in July and my hat is off to you!!! @lclark04957 I am back with you for August and we will rock it and lose a few pounds in the process!!!!

Frankly, I cannot wait for fall!!! You are all the best for hanging in there!🍁🍁

✅ Started off right. If you need a change, this is my favorite Leslie. 30 mins, full body (kick backs, knee ups, front kicks, arms). Good sweat, fast pace.

    August Goals

    Milage Tracked 7 / 70
Apple Challenge: 15 walks of 5 minutes of more. 3/15

I've been doing more gentle walks recently to help balance the addtion of strength training. Today A gentle walk with Improved Health and 10 min arm work out.
Air Quality this AM is 147. I can see it lingering and I could smell it when I took the trrash out for pick up. I've been stuffy. Not like stuffy with a cold just plugged. I'm adding a new supplement this week that is supposed to help sugar cravings and balance blood sugar.

@zichab Welcome back! I'm glad you got a least 1 good hike in with your son. I wouldn't have thought about Moose in NY but here we are. You let me know when you want to do a Zoom chat to comiserate about these husbands of ours.

@lclark04957 Oh gosh! It's been a whiel since I've done that workout. Soemtimes there is so many choices I get overwhelmed. Thanks for reminding me about that one.

@Elfirose33 Nice job using gardening as a recovery event.

Yesterday I did my final theater in the park "workout" for the year as the musicals are now over until next summer. It was all exhilarating and exhausting at the same time, and I'm glad I did it. Today I did personal training for 30 minutes, gardened for 2 hours, and walked Dottie for 25 minutes.

@zichab Welcome back!! Great goals for August! I'm so happy you got to spend special time with your family! Sorry to hear about Dennis's challenges though. Thank you:) And thank you, too, for reading all of our July posts, you're the best! Hang in there, Fall is right around the corner! 🧡

@lclark04957 Looks like a great Leslie workout there, well done! 😊

@Deeder522 Way to go with the strength training! And I love slow easy walks, they're my favorite 😊 All my walks with Dottie are slow easy walks.

This morning a Fast 1600 steps with Improved Health. Then I played around with different Arm exercises. Not much change weather wise. The air quality 👎🏻, and this will be the last decent day before the heat & humidity machien kicks in again. At least we were able to get Ryan to his Chiro appt yesterday. He's gotten a little better sleep the last couple of nights as well. 😀

@Elfirose33 Congratulations on a successful run of workouts at the park. Now that you did it this year, do you think you'll do it again next year?

✅ Finished the Leslie 30 mins again tonight. I had the energy so figured I might as well take advantage.

Today I gardened 2.5 hours, mowed 35 minutes, and walked Dottie 30 minutes.

@Deeder522 Great quick steps and arm work! Sorry to hear the poor air quality ruined the nice weather. Glad Ryan got some sleep though. Thank you! :) Yes, I will do it all again next year too, that is, if the musical has trumpet parts written into the score (luckily they've needed trumpets for the last 15 years' of musicals that I've played with them). The musical we just finished on Sunday was my 27th musical show performed with this group. It's always intense, but fun, and I always grow from the experience 💛

I'm taking to morning off, at least. Just kind of feeling like I'm dragging today. I hope after some food my body will come around for a workout.

@lclark04957 Nice way to use some evening energy.

@Elfirose33 27 Shows! What a great experience for everyone.

I got my after dinner walk in. I was tired and didn’t want to do it but committed yesterday with my SIL. I can see where a workout buddy would be motivating. I so wanted to skip it , but didn’t want to let her down, and she was thinking the same thing.

Today I did not go to Tai Chi because I was not feeling well (tired) so I took a nap instead, which proved to be a good idea in the end. Then I pulled myself together enough to go do 40 minutes Redline (a HIIT strength & conditioning group class at my personal trainer's gym). I was the only one who showed up there today besides my coach, so it ended up being like a personal training session. Tonight I walked Dottie 30 minutes.

@lclark04957 Way to go! The buddy system works very well.

@Deeder522 It truly is a great experience for everyone!

Health Heart 1 Mile with Leslie this morning. I feel like I have a small but working it's way through me. Yesterday, I didn't manage any workout unless you count the waves of nausea I was on. 🤢 I feel a little better today but I think I'll keep it easy where I can.

@lclark04957 Buddy system is a great method. I count this board as my buddies b/c I can't find a buddy in my real life.

@Elfirose33 Bonus personal session for you! 1 with the trainer and 1 with Dottie. 😉

@Deeder522 I did the Heart Healthy today too. It’s enough for me but not too much where I talk myself out of it because it’s too long. I’m on a 4 day streak. Hopefully the weekend doesn’t derail me.

I know I said I'd start Leslie on Aug 11, but I decided there was no time like the present since everyone is GONE!!! Well, they are gone from my house, but still in the USA … thanks to United Airlines!!! Lord they are the worst!

There was a computer glitch at United yesterday and the FAA grounded all United Flights at several airports including Newark where my kids are leaving from. However, United put them on a plane, hauled them out to the taxi way and sat for 4 hours. Came back to the terminal to "refuel" and then the crew left having run out of flight hours!!! Then chaos ensued as United cancelled the flight and their personnel seemed unable to handle the whole situation. The kids ended up in a hotel (along with about 40 other people from United's other cancelled flights) at 2 AM, having been in the airport since 3:30 for their 6:00 flight!!! I am sticking to Delta for sure!!!! No more United for us!!!! 🙄

Aside from that, it is going to be hot tomorrow and for the rest of the week and you all know how much I hate that!!! I have a boat, car and truck to detail and I do not have time for 89 and muggy!!!! The weather hates me! 😏

@Elfirose33 LOL when does a musical ever NOT need trumpets??????? I do not think I have ever seen a score without them! I think you can plan on being needed every summer for a long time for along time! Guaranteed workout for you!!!

@lclark04957 Like @Deeder522, it has been a LOOOONGGG time since I did that workout, although I probably should have done it tonight. It would get me back into aerobic training right away! 🤣 However, a ton of laundry has warn me out today!!! How do people keep up who have 4 children and their linens??????? It is a good one though and I may do it before the end of the month. Thanks for the reminder.

@Deeder522 I am with you in that this group is, and has been, my accountability partner for a long time. Everyone around here walks outside and until fall the the horse flies and other biting bugs DIE, I cannot do it. In Michigan, I could not commit to a particular time and most people had walking "schedules." When I found this group, I realized after a year or two, they were my accountability and walking partners and most of them had the same problems you and I do finding people to work out with. I wish I knew what happened to texasgardnr, pinkypan, and AnnofB. They all seem to just disappear. Thankfully, we are still here!!!!👍️

Update on Dennis: His heart rate is coming down … slowly! He has not been over 100 in a few days now, but is still in the 80 and 90 beats a minute range, which is still pretty high. We see his cardiologist on Monday, but he is living the dream right now as no one asks him to do anything. 😂

    Stay cool!!! 😎

Anothee gentle walk with Improved Health and Arm routine with Fit By Mik. The Heat is back and we're still not big fans of it here.

@zichab I'm sorry the kids got suck in the United Snafu. You could focus all tha frustration into cleaning. 🤣 I came from a family of 3 and have a family of 3. I don't know how bigger families manage. I always wonder from time to time what happened to those who used to checking so much. The 3 you mentioned, it doesn't look like they've logged into MFP in well over a year. I'm thankful for a new walking friends. Good report on Dennis. I'll keep my 🤞🏻for Monday's Dr's visit.

Finished the Fast Walking 30 Minutes again this morning. Not sure why but I am loving that routine this month so I’m going to go with the renewed interest until it passes. It’s definitely more challenging for me.
The nightmare story of the airport and flying sounds horrible. I’m thankful I don’t have to travel.

I am also grateful for this group. I’m retired with no consistent accountability buddies anymore. I look here for motivation and inspiration!

@Deeder522 Oh no, so sorry you've not been feeling well. Take good care and I hope you feel better soon! 💚

@lclark04957 Good job finding and doing the perfect workout for the need at hand, and great 4 day streak! Hang in there this weekend, you can do it!

@zichab Nicely done on your walks and miles, and good goals for August! There has been at least one musical that I know of that did not need trumpets, and that unique pit was mostly guitars and drums and the like. But you're absolutely right, trumpet-less pits are very rare, thankfully! Wishing Dennis total healing and recovery 🙏

I did a simple Walkign with Weights this morning. I woke up late so it was a short workout this morning.
Our cable box wen out this week so, Spectrum sent us a new one, which ended up being a dud too. So we wait for another one to be shipped to us again. In the meantime, we hooked up out little antenna to the TV so we can get 1 local news station. We've talked about getting a bigger antenna that we could mount to the garage. We don't watch much cable except 3 stations and that mostly for local news. Ryan has never been a big watcher and it's become mostly background noise for me. Our kid pays the cable bill and we've told him he can cut it when ever he wants. We still have a decent collection of DVD's and free streaming channels and the library can fill in the other areas.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and gets to do something fun for themselves.

The oddest thing just happened! I copied my Aug 8 data from Aug 1-8 and then refreshed the page and my post is gone. I am not sure how to delete a post, but apparently that is how you do it. MFP does the strangest things. Anyway, I went for the 3 Mile Walk today!!!

My kids are back in Netherlands all safe and sound finally. In my last post that seemed to vanish, I mentioned that they could not get a flight to Amsterdam until Sunday, so they took a flight to Brussels, rented a car and drove to The Hague. They are tired but glad to be out of an airport and far away from United Airlines!

@Deeder522 We found ourselves in the same boat with cable. When I was working, I watched cable TV every night, mostly ID or Oxygen to fall asleep (I know weird choices for sleeping right? 😂), but once we moved here, we found we were not watching it at all, so we got rid of cable and just have Hulu. We like to have something in case of a local disaster.

@lclark04957 In my disappearing post I said that finding the motivation to work out is the had part and if you love a workout and want to do it, do not quesiton the universe, JUST DO IT!! You know it will eventually pass! 🤣

@Elfirose33 Thanks for sending good wishes for Dennis. He is annoyed at how long it is taking but the meds need time to work and he wants things fixed NOW!

It is HOT here and if it is HOT where you are, stay cool! 😎🏊‍♂️⛄️

It was a Dottie Day! This morning I walked Dottie 20 minutes then brought her over to my house so she could hang out with me for the day ~ a Girl's Day! 💜 Dottie got a bath today, which was definitely a workout! 😄 Then I walked Dottie 25 minutes tonight.

@Deeder522 A gentle walk is perfect.

@lclark04957 Cool! Fast walking sounds like a good one!

@zichab Great miles! Good to hear your kids are home safe! You're welcome:) Oh dear, hoping he can hang in there a bit longer with it all.

No routine yesterday, but I did haul gravel in a wheelbarrow up and down the driveway to shovel next to new pavement so I’ll call that my exercise. I worked new muscles and got up a sweat so good enough. We’re going sailing today with my daughter and her boyfriend so I doubt I’ll reach any goals, but it will be a great mental health day and that is just as important. The weather is gorgeous. Now we’re hoping for a breeze or sailing can be a little boring. Have a great day every!

You all are crushing August!! Way to go.

@Deeder522 the air quality has been so bad, think last night's rain may have finally cleared it. For now.

Just came home from a week at my family's place on a small lake. Siblings are the third gen if owners. It was Siblings, nieces and nephews and the greats. And awesome week with lots of water play, some easy walks with my sister and her pup, and the best full-body toddler hugs.

Not tracking anything has been odd and a bit nerve racking when it started. And saying no to stuff was also hard. But I have been doing it and feeling much better.

Keep is up crew, you are all doing great.

I did another gentle walk this morning and by gentle I mean, my legs did small movements while my arms were all over the place. 🤣

@megd44 I'm glad you popped in here with an updates. A week on a small lake sounds wonderful to me.

    @Elfirose33 A girls day with Dottie! I'm a bit jealous. 😉

@lclark04957 Sailing on a Sunday sounds liek the perfect wasy to recoup from Wheelbarrel work.

@zichab It's still hot here but we have a bit a wind and clouds. I'd rather hve the clouds move out by nightfall we Ry & I can get outside and look for the metor showers that are starting to peak.
