@SweetPeasMom55 Is the travel time flexible at all? If it snows? I went to Marque MI in October on the FIRST one year, thinking it'd be easy enough. LOL IT SNOWED!! But by 11 AM, it was mostly melted. I know we can get snow in October, or we USED to before the weather went so funky. Can you both be a little flexible time wise if needed? This time of year, even 4 hours can make a difference. Ehhhh, or pull over, grab a room, and enjoy the impromptu stop?
@Ronnie_happy2ranch It's against the law here in our city to feed the wild critters. However, some still also do it. It's ingrained in some, and they really think "they'll starve if I don't," Or "I just love to see them in my yard." The latter I understand, BUT!! When it's a nuisance for the neighbors, that if it were me I'd want to speak up. BUT people are so insane now, it would be questionable if I would. No one wants to have a neighbor who terrorizes the area. Just remember if you do not want the snow,,, send on ovah! I am HAPPY to take every single flake!1 -
@Dianedoessmiles1 on the way there we are on a tight schedule. She's speaking at Clarkson University. Way home we can always stay with my in-laws and rebook her flight home.

A rafter of turkeys, that a new one to me too!
Today’s walk was at Wall Springs Park. The spring really is shaped like a woman’s head.

@slstover35 yes conqueror challenges do charge, they send you very medals after completing a walk. I usually sign up when they are having sales.
It was a nice day, Don and I are still coughing. We did go shopping this morning and after coming home and doing some stuff we both had coughing jags, glad we didn't do that in the store. Both of us get tired real easily too, but no fever. People around here sometimes feed the wild animals, even though told not too then they get upset when the animals become aggressive for food, especially the black bears.
Got a post card for my Jurassic Coast walk.
Wishing you a great rest of the evening.

@SweetPeasMom55 Ekkkk hopefully, the weather will be good. Sounds like a great time!! I am sure you'll enjoy.
@Sableness COOL Pictures!! Love seeing them.
@Kurtize Joyce, please take care. Hopefully you'll both feel well soon. Love the card!! Those cabins would be fun to stay at, just to enjoy walking by all of the colors. I'd have a hard time picking which one to stay at based on the color. I'd want them ALL!! LOL0 -

@alphafitchick Smart thinking!!! Injuries are not good.
@SweetPeasMom55 Do you remember any foods your Mom made many times when you were a kid? My Mom and Grandmother used a 1960s Betty Crocker cookbook for many meals and yummies. My Grandmother gave me hers. Looking through it brought back many memories for me. Foods I had forgotten my Mom and Gram made. If my Mom were alive, I'd copy some of her recipes and make them up for her if she weren't able to cook. Often, the older recipes are the ones they still like the most. I do want to make Panera's Squash soup. MAN IS THAT'S SO GOOD!! And also Lasagna soup. Both are very easy, and for myself, I can gear them to be low sodium.1 -
@walkintofit - hope the medical appointment go well, and it’ll be nice to have the pneumonia shot done with. Yeah, wimpy days happen. This certainly wasn’t one of my better ones. I had a couple of disappointments and let them sabotage my day.

Made it through the day without my diet soda but it was rough. I came close to crying and so were my coworkers it was so bad today. I wanted that diet soda but I thought it's so bad for me and I could do better.
We have that cook book , My parents were very meat and potatoes. Both I struggle with blech.
2 -
@SweetPeasMom55 - didn’t everyone have that cookbook!? I had Betty Crocker plus Better Homes and Gardens. I hardly ever look at them since we eat about half vegetarian. I feel for you about the rough day. That was me yesterday, and I didn’t do very well. Today was better even though it was very busy. And I’m retired, no less!
suggestions: meatloaf and mashed potatoes, pan-cooked pork chops with onions and/or mushrooms, baked chicken and rice. Those are the sorts of meals my family seniors loved. With a little tweaking, they can be made healthier, and you can sneak in veggies if those are a problem.
1 -
@SweetPeasMom55 try Skinnytaste.com for healthy recipes that still taste good; sometimes you just need to up the seasonings for meals to change a bit. Definitely add lots of freggies for more anti-inflammatory/healthy options. I would imagine your folks would like more of what they grew up with or what's familiar to them. Crockpot and casserole meals would make life so much easier for you and your folks - you can just freeze meal portions in ziplocs or containers for 2 (we can literally freeze in 2-cup souper cubes and cook in their 2-cup ceramic dishes) for my husband and I. I make a really easy ham & potato casserole that feeds us for 3-4 meals each; same with ziti or some type of pasta with sauce and chicken sausage; soups, stews, etc.; sometimes I will just shred or grate carrots and/or zucchini into meals just to get added veggies in. My husband is not a big veggie soup or chili fan unless I add in some meat; he doesn't always know it's chicken or turkey sausage. 😉

@SweetPeasMom55 When I stopped drinking Pepsi, it was hard, hard!! I haven't had any alcoholic drinks since Oct 2023 (WOOHOO now 23 years!), that was HARD, but quitting Pepsi was WORSE!!! Maybe it's because there aren't any support groups? Nah, it was the caffeine I was withdrawing from. Once I had, suddenly my thoughts became clearer, and my anxiety which was high went to very low over time. HANG on in!! I do drink soda still (I know I should quit, I know the chemicals in diet soda is horrible for us). I admire you!
@Sableness Mac and Cheese, also, YUMMY meatloaf!! I think I'll make some tonight for tomorrow!! Sundays are extremely busy and hard for me. That'll taste YUMMY!! And it drives my poor neighbors CRAZY when I cook this late. Hehehehe!! WOOHOO on getting out everyday and the swimming!!

We'd be working on getting that down. I am still smiling.

@SweetPeasMom55 hubby is meat/potatoes guy, too, and yeah, it does get boring. Would chicken pot pie work? EZ, delicious: I use one refrigerator crust, roll it thin enough to have extra for strips across top (crust does NOT have good numbers, lol, but I settled on that to keep it 'right'), chicken breast, cut up (I boil some when I bring it home, freeze, then it ready to use in stuff), a bag of frozen mixed veggies, can of cream of chicken (I use healthier version, but it's def not as tasty, lol), 1/2 can of milk, use a chicken seasoning (I use one called chicken sh☆t, but it's probably a MI thing) and garlic salt w parsley mix to taste. Bake til crust is browned. It's simple, but SO good, can have it in pie plate ready so all you have to do is bake when you get home. I left a message for you on last seasons overall, not realizing I was on summer 🙃.

@walkintofit Hello, glad to 'see' you here! Left a message for you on the summer main chat, didn't realize I was on the wrong one!
Glad to hear your brother got out of hospital.
My gift suggestion for anyone older is anything that GETS USED UP (gift cards count, lol), an 'experience' or outing, tickets to something, a 'groupon' or you can buy groupon gift cards which might encourage them to find something to enjoy there, a simple outing where you go too, and you plan it all out, (like a hike and you take a a food basket for lunch, or an outing to a nearby town's flea market, festival...whatever) food they love but is too pricey for everyday, flowers if it's something they enjoy, with prices these days, even a hand-made fruit basket with only the stuff they love but don't buy on the regular because of price. If you want funny, a years supply of toilet paper, heehee.
Happy to hear you got some help battering down the cooler for winter. Hope things are going well with the new friend, and that you are enjoying the ride! Are you continuing to work, or have you decided to retire? Hope work has been better!
Medicare.gov/plan-compare and shiphelp.org which is a free unbiased help trained person to help choose a plan for your state are good. You have to be very careful, because you see a lot of free help to choose the best plan, but many are people hired by companies to steer you towards their plan. It is not easy stuff to understand!

@Sparkuvu and @walkintofit, yes, it’s that time of year for Medicare. A friend and I have fun going to Medicare seminars. We get dessert, a drink, and grocery store gift cards! One agent and care center provide a full restaurant meal. We have a couple more this week. My husband went with us to one last week. They served homemade key lime pie, his #1 favorite. He changed his plan and his doctor.
Good thing I went out in the pool earlier. It’s pouring rain right now. I’m squeezing in every day I can till the water is just too cold for this Florida wimp. Once we give it up for the season, husband will dismantle it. That pool held up really well; five years is quite respectable for an above ground pool in Florida sun and heat. Our nephew will help us put up a new one to be ready for spring. As long as our knees can handle the steps, we’re good.0 -
@Sparkuvu chicken pot pie is on the menu this week. Also slow cooker stew. I had to buy so much stuff today. I am trying really hard to stock up my parents pantry. I told my brother he is in charge of Thursday as that's the day he will be in town.
Mom hid the house and car keys in a really good place. Yep I have been searching the house for 4 days and have yet to find them. She has agreed that come spring the car is gone and we will put up a mail box. I have the spare set of keys and the deal is if she doesn't have the keys she can't drive. I have a new rule there are only a few places she is to hide things. Granted she can't remember where I told her. I told my siblings and said as soon as she states she hid something find out where.
rough weekend as mom was sick Saturday, Dad on Sunday. I can't keep up with the leaves and that's also bothering my mom. Fingers crossed I have my Dad's huge lawn and leaf machine sold. too large for me to deal with. Plus will free up a ton of space in the garage.
I have mom and dad all set for their insurance but am struggling with Hubby. He wants everything in writing and getting info is hard. I have to see if there are any places he can go for help. Getting him to go will be my next battle.

Lovely day here in New England. Hubby and I went for a long hike. We saw a red-tailed hawk.

@alphafitchick Aww thanks!! Some may wait until week 8, but it helps to tell ourselves daily what it is we did well. Oftentimes, we are quick to tell ourselves when we do something foolish. Yesterday, I found myself saying "Stupid" and at once questioned myself, "Huh? Oh, okay, what I did was an oopsie, I dropped food in my lap and at once said, "Oh, no big deal! It's okay. And Oscar got a treat!" I smiled again.
@Sparkuvu Your recipe sounds wonderful!! I am quite the troller on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook for recipes. I'm going to try to make bread if I feel well enough this week. It's only water, flour, salt, and dry yeast. If I ever need a gift suggestion, I'll ask you!! Those are awesome ideas! TY TY TY!! I giggled at the TP, then I smiled, because that is ALWAYS welcomed. I have many friends in their 80s; sadly, as time goes by, I lose them slowly. We help each other and the family (if they are local) to clean out their places. LOL First one in usually looks for TP and PT (Paper Towels). LOL Now, as a joke, many of us, though single, buy a 48 or more pack just for giggles. I think we are SICK PUPPIES!! LOL
@Sableness LOL, I love what you and your friend do. I have a few friends who would enjoy that. Thanks!! I use an agent. She represents, as you mentioned, 6 companies. This is my 3rd year using her; however, if I do not like what she offers, I know ZERO loyalty to any insurance company. Like them, I am out for what will benefit me. I have United Health Care PPO it's doing me extremely well. They are covering a med that is 900. My care card gets 171 a month to be used by the end of the month, for healthy food. It also strangely covers my cat supplies at one local grocery store. Since I do not drive now, 48 trips (24 round) to the Dr's office within 20 miles or shopping.
@SweetPeasMom55 GOOD Job on getting the menu and food. YO! Plus, you work, do you work full time? I had to stop hiding things, LOL I can't ever remember where I put them!! I was having a friend and her H coming here years ago. I put aside 600 for them to play with. I could NOT FIND IT!! Months later, I remembered I put it in a cereal box. Hmm, I had also thrown OUT the cereal box. Money now goes into a specific area. AND in the bank.
@Lopeyp Oh, how cool the red tailed hawk picture!! WOW!! He blends in so well, I had to look again to see him.
I went to my religious meeting today. After that, 8 of us went out to eat. Hmm, 8 people are a fun group, but the cross talking though funny, can be a bit much. I was smart and sat with the 3 I knew it would be laughter and more laughter. The 3 of us did NOT disappoint! I got a burger with mango salsa on it, WOW, it was super good!! With hand cut fries. I ate 30% of the fries and half of the burger. Tonight I ate another 20% of the fries (They are very good, but!) and the rest of the burger. I have an air fryer, they are great for reheating and of course, cooking foods we may normally fry without all the nasty grease. Well, okay, I ADORE fried food, but the air fryer and I are well acquainted, and my food is healthier, while still yummy.
WOOHOO and the PATS WON TODAY 31 to 13 over the Titans. YEAH YEAH Pats are finally at the top of the Eastern Division.0 -
Hi Sparkuvu and Sableness, good to hear what u are up too. Miss the ole' team. I'm doing ok. Working full time for now. Getting on part B but haven't heard from ss yet. I have to have part b before I can sign up for the part d. Work is gearing up for the holiday season and it is stressful. New boss is all over the place looking to run things like the higher ups want. I think good luck to her for all she is trying to do.
Started meds for osteoporsis, not a fan of the meds. Hoping I don't get a reaction from it. I was surprised by the diagnosis as I do walk and row a lot.Oh ya Happy Monday…
