HOW IT ALL WORKS: The October challenge runs for five weeks, from September 28th - November 1st.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leader board. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get October on the road! 😎

Welcome to October!
I am Lauren, co-captain of team WaistAways, but filling in for the wonderful @Megan_smartiepants1970 She has unfortunately been sick for the past few months, but hopefully will be back here soon!
I am 39 years old and from North Carolina, USA. I have been on a weight loss journey most of my adult life. I have done a lot of the yo-yo thing, losing a lot of weight in 2012 and then gaining it back. Over the last few years, I seem to be gaining and losing the same 10-15 pounds.
September was a rough month for me and I gained 2 pounds overall. I need to get back to tracking every day now that I am back from vacation. My other goal is to get 7,000 steps daily.
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time (but don't sweat it if you have to use a different day sometimes)! Put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, you can request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can be moved to the "Support Team" where you still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try
Step Challenge
Anyone is welcome to join our weekly step challenge! All you have to do is pledge a number of steps (set a goal) of how many steps you would like to get a day. Then at the end of the week, post your steps! You are challenging yourself and staying active is one way to hit your health goals! 🚶♀️
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. We all have information to share, things we can learn, and lean on each other as a team for a successful month!

Hey good morning @lauren_989. This may be a duplicate, if it is, I’m sorry. I had just entered my numbers at 9:30. I then went back in to check my entry and got a reply saying the “September” chat was closed and to go to the “October” chat. Well I check both and do not see my entry in either. So I am repeating it here just in case my earlier entry is lost in cyberspace. Here goes:
Member: rwillemsWeigh_In Day: Sunday
PW: 258.2 lbs
CW: 258.8 lbs.
As I said, if this is a duplicate, I am sorry, just ignore one or the other.2 -
@rwillems and team - I have been noticing this the past 2 weeks with MFP. I 100% believe you post, but then nothing actually shows up. Just FYI in case you want to double check.

Wowzer!! I got rid of 4.3 lbs 😁 I’ve been putting in the work for months and ecstatic that I am seeing progress on the scale. Apparently consistency & perseverance does pay off 😁😂😁🤣

@gillis1118 what a great scale victory this week! I describe it as a whoosh and love when it happens! 🎉

There are 60 days until Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), so I am going to stay on track for these days (minus some candy on halloween). I need to get back to basics and just look at one day at a time. I look ahead and schedule my exercise for the week, but my goal is each night to sit for 5 minutes and plan my food for the next day.

Weigh-In Day: Sunday
PW: 161.6
CW: 160.4
I had a couple of days where I went over my calorie allotment, but I definitely didn't want that to be the trend, so I buckled up and made sure that I did some extra exercises during the week. Eating oatmeal instead of a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast helps me a lot and it is an easy switch.

WOW, only 60 days until Thanksgiving 😳and only 98 days until my cruise. I’ve got goals to meet. Honestly, after months of working out & tracking meals I think I’ve finally gotten a successful routine. I pre-track my day each morning which helps me a lot. I am definitely physically better than I was when I began in February 💪

Hi Downsizers! My name is Nancy and I am one of the Motivators on the Shape Shifters team! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself.
I am a native New Yorker who is now retired and living in Miami, Florida. I worked in human resources for many years, but switched careers mid-life to become a high school English teacher. I've lost 100 pounds since starting my journey, and have been able to help keep it off by living a more active lifestyle here in sunny Florida. I am addicted to Zumba, pickleball, tennis, and I teach aqua aerobics as well. I live with my husband, and our 23-year old daughter lives about an hour away in Boca Raton. We enjoy traveling, reading, and concerts (I took my daughter to Lady Gaga earlier this month, and I'm taking my husband to Vegas to see Duran Duran for New Year's). It's never boring lol.
Did you know that our Fat 2 Fit group has a book club? You can find the Page Turners & Portion Burners Book Club page under "Announcements." We read a different genre each month, and then we vote on the next month's selection from titles that are suggested by book club members. For October, we are reading a historical fiction novel, The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano. And, we are also having a GIVEAWAY for our October read! Head on over to our page and check us out! We are a relaxed, fun group😊 Hope you'll be joining us!

Wow @lauren_989 !!! I can’t believe Thanksgiving is coming up so FAST! Thanks for your support for being in the green!
Happy Tuesday Everyone!
What healthy habit are having the hardest time doing, and what is one baby step you could take toward your goal?- One healthy habit I should be doing is going to bed a little earlier. One baby step I could take as I have in past is set a time scheduled.
- I was on a great sleeping routine until we have moved to Texas. I just need to go to bed earlier. :). We have been busy at the ranch and be time we get inside its later than when we were in FL. Thus, I have pushed dinner later and going to sleep as well. This will be soon fixed as well with it getting darker earlier!.

Hello October!
As the team motivator, I am excited to help motivate and encourage all! Let’s have an awesome October!
A little about me:
I was really focused on my nutrition and working out, however, over the last year and a half I wasn’t as disciplined. I have let weight creep up on me and now I know I need to make a change to my diet and exercise program. I am excited to do so (45 yrs old)! Bye, twenty pounds! Let’s do it together!I am now retired from my professional job. We recently moved from FL to TX (North of Dallas). I throughly love horseback riding and have two horses: Ravello (Dutch Warmblood) - dressage and Hollywood (Quarter Horse) - western pleasure. Since my childhood I have loved horses and use to jump, dressage, english/western pleasure and show. I love to garden as well. Next spring I will plan our new garden! I wasn’t able to have a garden this year due to our move.
Welcome back all teammates and Hi 👋 to all new members! I look forward to getting to know you!
Goals for October:
Nutrition
- Track 🎯 Macros 40/40/20 and calorie consumption. I use Fitbit. Cut back on vino. 🍷Exercise
- 10K 🏃♀️ steps per day (6 out of 7 days) - - Ride Peloton Bike/4 x’s a week and strength training! 💪Mind/Spiritual
- Read Bible daily 🙏Weigh-In Daily Tracking Sheet
- It helps me to weigh-in daily. I don’t obsess over it, however, I like to track things, haha my analytical background! Love excel! :)My fitness pal goal is to be more involved with all! Sorry the last few weeks we have been busy at the ranch. Let’s GO TEAM!

@HorsesRock9999 Your property is beautiful!
@lauren_989 I can't believe its only 60 days to Thanksgiving!
This is the hardest time of year for me to stay on track. I think as it gets colder my body just wants to add another layer of insulation! Anyway, our eldest is getting married November 1st and I would love to be down another 4-5 pounds by then. So, I am going to try to be more active here and I have put habits into the habit tracker. They aren't huge goals, but I am hoping that by tracking daily it will help me meet my goals for the month.
As an added bonus and just a weird side story, my sister gave me a 15 POUND cabbage this weekend. I had no idea they even came that big! My husband made me a bunch of cabbage soup for my lunches this week and we still have about 75% of the cabbage left!
2 -
@AnnaZimm70 I have never seen a cabbage that large! And a 4-5 pound weight loss is very realistic!
@HorsesRock9999 that is a beautiful ranch!
For the question, I have more than one thing that is hard right now 😂 - consistency, tracking, snacking, water, sleep...I guess the biggest (well smallest) step I could take would be to track my food. Good, bad, ugly. But to make it even smaller, I will make sure to track my dinners. I tend to have the same breakfast and lunch, so tracking my dinner would be helpful.

Weigh-in - Wednesday
PW: 144.7
CW: 143.1
Loss: 1.6 lbs
Very pleased with this loss. I've been sticking to my calories and it worked. It's my husband's birthday and my parents 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday so there will be a lot of cake.

To answer the question about a healthy habit I need to work on. I would have to say that it's being consistent with getting workouts done. I prefer morning workouts but the mornings sometimes get away from me. A baby step I'm going to try is to move my workouts to the afternoon.
