Kim,..my grocery bill has been cut in half just by having the college kid out of the house. It's insane.

I had some red wine with that Italian pot roast I made..it was perfect for the cold weather yesterday. But now it's back into the 80's tomorrow and Thurs. So Cal just can't quite let go of summer yet.

I've dropped the 2 lbs I gained...funny how it happened as soon as I got rid of the stupid Halloween candy.

Kim, those bills are insane! I can't even imagine paying that much for groceries! But then again, it's just me & my hubby at home.

SoCal, way to go on dropping 2 lbs!! That is awesome!

I never bought any Halloween candy in the first place because I have zero willpower & I would've eaten it all!! Once I have one piece, all bets are off!

Husband and I spend a lot on groceries and it's just us :noway: Whole Foods can be pricey but they have such good stuff.

It is completely dark here right now, 5:00 and I need to get my butt in gear and go get my work out done but

Kat, we just got a Fresh Market here (no Whole Foods yet), and I LOVE IT! I could easily spend $100+ without really buying what I would consider a lot of fun. But they have amazing stuff as well!

It's only 4:15, and it is cold, cloudy & rainy outside! I brought my stuff to go to the Y after work...I just need to make sure I go cause if I go home, I don't think I'll really do my workout DVD!! Ugh...I just want to be under a blanket at home!

We don't spend a ton on groceries. Its just the two of us and I only buy what I need for the week, so if we spend 100bucks its A LOT!!!!!! Now liquor stores and beer stores...that's where our money goes. Its so easy to spend 70bucks on a couple good beers. We have priorities

Monday-1 pineapple vodka and sprite zero
Tuesday-3 pineapple vodka and sprite zero...almost went for a 4th but had a spoonful of PB instead!!!
Lenny is heading out to state college for a meeting this morning and won't be home until friday. So after work I will hit the gym and then mostly have some vodka  maybe some wine  we'll see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, will hold out for a zero...

I made 3 lbs. of taco meat, a big pot of beef stew and a pot of chili - I am sure it will be gone in 2 days.

I'll finish up the cauli recipe today... and try and find the sea bass for a new recipe that easy and looks yummy. Here's the link if anyone is interested.

I found a coupon for a free pizza that I had forgotten about. It was in a fundraising packet I bought over the summer. I'm actually excited to have the sort-of freebie.

Well, I ended up having a beer at dinner last night, but only 1! So that makes:

Monday - 2 (small glasses) of red wine
    Tuesday - 1 beer
    Wednesday - will be 0!

    Gary,

I am not sure how they figured out the cals & sodium since it's a brine and you essential throw most of the liquid away when your done cooking it. I was just researching how much brine is absorbed in foods but not finding anything really conclusive. Next time I would use 1/2 of the amount of kosher salt since I do prefer less. I also only used 1/2 of the butter.

I made the cheese sauce but didn't use it because of the calorie/fat content. I did taste it and it was also de-lish. However, I would use as a spread for baquettes and toast them for an appetizer - or - put a dab on steak (OMG, yes!!). The recipe makes a big, big batch of cheese sauce so I would essential skip it next time. I am hoping that it freezes well because that's where it's going.

Anyway, the cauli flavor was amazing after brining and roasting - No cheese

It's the heavy cream that kills it. I bet you could replace that with a lighter whole milk. But that won't fix the fact that cauliflower is ucky..no matter how much you try to make it good.

I'm having a good week eating and exercise wise. Maybe this time I can manage not to undo everything once the weekend comes by eating like crap and drinking way too much. :ohwell:

I have a ton of recipes from a local restaurant that makes the most amazing soups...and albeit, all of them contain heavy cream! So, I'm happy I can make my own lighter version at home by either cutting the heavy cream in 1/2 or even more, and replacing it with skim milk...and they still taste amazing & aren't laden with a ton of fat & calories. I will need to try the cauliflower crust, I LOVE cauliflower!

I got a workout in last night & only had 1 beer at dinner. Tonight I'm planning on hitting the Y after eating at my dad's house. I just have to make sure I force myself to do it!!! I always just want to go home & do nothing, but I do that on the weekends...and I need to lose some lbs!! UGH! I won't sacrifice my Friday night drinks though:drinker:

Too funny!! Sorry, you don't like cauli, I find it yummy. Yes, I replaced the heavy cream with half-n-half and used light feta cheese to try and ease the fattiness of it.

I just woke up from a nice nap...off to get the boys' haircuts and teach those god-awful children about God.

I had a zero yesterday. Not sure where that came from but I will take it. I like cauliflower okay. Its not my favorite but I like to use it as mash potato replacement sometimes.

Ended up going for apps last night...I must get some drinking will power this week. I work Fri, Sat, Sun so maybe that will help. Although, I have to admit last weekend I worked after a night of bowling and I was HUNGOVER. I hate being that way at work, makes a long day. I decided no vodka at bowling & no spiking with the flask.

Hopefully the sea bass is thawed today, new recipe has it cumin crusted and easy to make - also, kale salad with cranberries, golden raisins & toasted pine nuts. Maybe, I'll use that cheese spread for a baguette and make some mini-croutons with it.

Ron bought me a new cookbook from the local grocer that I have been wanting. I am happy to have all the recipes from their deli because their food is divine!!

Kate, the pineapple vodka you keep having sounds delicious! I might have to give that a try!!!

Last night was a big 0! Tonight will probably be as well. I go workout with a friend after work on Thursdays (she is a boxer, and I do it just for cardio), and then off to my other friend's house to watch Parenthood!! Then tomorrow is my 1/2 day at work!! WOO HOO!!!

I was thinking the same thing about that pineapple vodka!! I am just so bad at moderating when it comes to vodka though...red wine seems much easier for me to stop at 1 or 2.
I've had a good workout every day this week and am sore as hell today after heavy weights yesterday. So just cardio today and then some time by the pool...might get in although the water is chilly.

Is anyone else having a tough time with this time change? I'm ready for bed by 7pm. I hate when its dark so early. My body clock just says sleeeeeep.

Yeah, I tend to overdo it when I drink vodka as well...but I am not as bloated the next day! LOL. I love my craft beers though...which I have been trying to cut down on. I only really drink on Friday nights now, and maybe one or two drinks on Saturday nights, but usually not. So, I think that is ok!

SoCal, you've been having wonderful workouts this week!!! Way to go!

I personally love this time change cause I like going to bed really early. I swear, I'm an 80 year old in a 26 year old's body! HAHA

Vodka can definitely be deadly....I just have to limit as much as I can and log it every drink until I start feeling guilty...during the week anyway!!!

Bridget, craft beers are my heart  That's why we started brewing!!!! But, again, we still spend a ridiculous amount of money on them. I try to limit it to one day a week...4-6beers which is easily WELL over 1000cals, probably more like 2000, but once a week won't kill me. I was imbibing much more than that previously!!!
Saturday, we are brewing, that plus beers plus soft pretzels go hand in hand

Daylight savings....doesn't bother me too much as far as sleep is concerned (I'm in bed by 830-9 anyway) but makes me kind of miserable cause its dark when I get up in the morning and dark when I get home....it can easily lead to laziness too!!!!

Wednesday - 3 small glasses of red and then I opened one of the boxes of wine leftover from Bonnaroo and had 2 small glasses of that so about 3ish glasses. Which means lots of pinot grigio coming my way. Hoping to put a dent in it tonight with a friend and Friday with my parents.

I have wanted to be in bed before 10 most nights this week, which is about 30-60 minutes earlier than normal. I love sleeping and don't typically do it enough.

Polished off the pineapple vodka last night...3 drinks!! Its pinnacle, btw. Not a great vodka but inexpensive and mixed it isn't bad. I don't like to do shots of it but it does the trick

Len comes home today. His coworker is going to drop him off at my work. I am super tempted to stop for a beer on the way home but will probably just head home. I will probably have a few drinks tonight but not really sure what yet

Oh yeah....that's why I don't ever keep boxed wine in the house...... I can't even begin to guess how many glasses of wine I had. I drank a bottle of red and then drank pinot grigio with my BFF in the hot tub for several hours. I reckon the box is 1/2 - 3/4 of the way gone. Which means I probably drank a bottle of pinot grigio too. Ugh.

Ah yes the box o wine.....we learned that lesson too......they are no longer allowed to live in our house

Kate, I actually love Pinnacle vodka! Lol. I think it's yummy. But as for shots, I don't do shots of anything anymore. Too much of that when I was younger, and I'll all burnt out!

I'm so excited it is Friday!! It is my 1/2 day & I'm leaving at 12! YAY!! I'm debating on if I want to go to the Y or not, or just do my errands that need to get done. I'll see what mood strikes me when I get home. Grocery shopping must get done today...ugh. Not going to be fun putting them in my trunk with 40 MPH winds outside! Sometimes I'm not a fan of Kansas..

Tried the roasted cauliflower that Kim talked about. It was great! I followed her instructions and cut down on the salt in the brine. It really didn't need it. It was sad to use two and a half cups of wine in the brine.. :frown:

Here is a pic of how it turned out. We had the roasted cauliflower with grilled salmon and sweet potatoes. (sorry about the picture quality)
