Looking at the results for the open water swimming. The man who won the 2.5km swim only took 55.36.....in the 85-89 year ago group!!!!

And the winner of the 75-79 age group only took 46 minutes. That is beyond exceptional. Amazing!!!!! :astonished:

That really is amazing. That is why swimming is my exercise of choice, and should the good Lord allow me another 50 years or more, I hope to be swimming all through the years!

Greetings folks and good to see everyone swimming away.
Been away awhile, but swimming even when not logged, though been quite inconsistent for various reasons.
As a result, I now have at least 7 kilos to lose, so down we go again ...

4 miles each the last two nights.
Both night had to dodge a slowski whom I passed almost every lap. Persevered though and got the full swim in.
Today make the countdown shorter. 7 days.

Got an hour of laps/drills in before class last night. Thank god. I had gotten into mischief with a box of Nilla Wafers that I served my preschoolers in the afternoon. I needed 2 hours in the water...

48 (not 50!) minutes of laps. Mixed side strike, backstroke and front crawl. 89.1 degrees in the pool. A little too warm for me.

@fishgutzy Yea you survived another trip.

It was a hard swim tonight as I just couldn't get into the groove of it.
Hit the water and started with a quick warm-up 100m free and 100m breast.
Then tried to get into the flow of a long distance front crawl. It just wasn't happening tonight.
250m Front dropped into a rotating stroke and completed, 250m breast, 100m Back, 100 front, 50 kick and I was done, and not in the good way.

Too warm is not too fun.
Three thermostat had a problem one day on a recent China trip. Made it 20 laps.
I did 90 laps in an 88 degree pool.
    I've done 4 miles in 86 degrees.
It is amazing the difference a couple degrees makes.

Yes! 5,000 in the pool. Hope to get in the lake for open water swimming this weekend. Any open water swimmers out there? Any advise how to loose weight and eat what's needed for swimming. Why does it make me SO hungry. I'd love to connect with some swimmers. Anyone using swim.com? How are you tracking swimming in MFP (I just started MFP last week).

    No swimming this weekend.
10 km Road Race yesterday in 21C temperatures.

Today I was a Volunteer in a Safety Kayak at a Tri-Athlon 1.5km Open Water swim. I was one of the alternates in case some one else could not make it so it wasn't really on my plate as a "Planned" event for the day. I expected to sit on the beach and cheer. So when one of the organizers tapped me on the shoulder and said we need you, in my mind it was :( . But my turn to give back to the different events and groups I am involved in.
I was in the Final Chase boat ( Course Sweeper ), so next to the Lead Boats actually spent the most amount of time on the water. Lots of time shuttling from one side to the other shepherding the wayward swimmers back into the general course. Had a swimmer on the left who kept going left and one on the right who kept going right. It's like they would swim away from the other athlete's intentionally. Grrrrrr. If I could have tied a rope between them I would have. The one on the left I had to give him the Paddle Tap to the top of his back 3 times as he just wasn't sighting on the Course Buoys or listening to the Boat Deck Drumming ( 1st warning ) Air Horn under water ( 2nd warning ). Once the lead swimmers hit the beach the lead boats sprinted back out to help with the rest of the pack. I don't remember having such a hard time sighting when I did an open water swim.
Turned out it was the first open water swim for both of them and they had never practised sighting so had no idea how to do it or how important it is.

So between the Race yesterday and 80 minutes in the kayak ( 20 minute pre race inspection - buoy placement, 10 minutes waiting for start, 40 minutes Safety Boat, 10 minutes post race inspection, buoy removal ) my legs were really bagged and I cramped up the moment I picked them up to step out of the boat, promptly fell over into the water. No Rescue Required :)

    I like this workout.
I have decided that next fall I am going to do a couple of 200IM races. I will have to come up with some of my own workouts since my masters coach has us do mostly freestyle and some pretty boring practices as well.
    I might try this one.

I competed this weekend and came in third in the 200 freestyle. The time wasn't great but I'm working on it.
It was a really great meet because it was the first outdoor 50m meet. Beautiful weather and setting.
First place was a medal AND a bottle of wine. A 2015 Barbera too! Only in Italy!

Second place was a medal and a potted flowers.
Unfortunately, third place only a medal.

Didn't swim on Monday. Having a respiratory allergic reaction to any explosion of pollen here. Sux. Asthma like symptoms. Hard to swim with restricted lungs.
As long add the phlegm stays clear in good.
Leaving China in a few hours. So I'll be away from that pollen.

45 minutes in before class. I watched @aliciamariaq 's videos, and tried to put some of the techniques to use. I had to really concentrate on pulling my belly button in and keeping my glutes tight. As a fairly new swimmer, there's no muscle memory for me. But when I did this, I flattened out pretty well. I also tried to kick up as well as down. In all, a pretty good session (until the 4 lanes of swim kids started butterfly-ing next to me!)

Thank you for the suggestions, guys and gals. It's really helpful. I'm super proud that I'm coming up on my 3 year swimaversary  And it's been 5 years since I started working out consistently. WHO'D a thought?? My 40s have been my healthiest decade in terms of physical fitness. I'm turning 50 next year, and I have high hopes for even more.

First day back after bronchitis. Still coughing a lot.
Managed 3000 yards. Didn't want to over do it.
