1000m
750m front crawl - was going to do it all in one go, but the pool is too hot and I got a headache.
250m with hand paddles after a rest1 -
Big swim day yesterday
masters swim in the morning - another one with all the kicks
300m warm up
200m kick
200m free build
4xs through:- 4x25 sprint kick
- 4x25 free fast
- 100 IM
100m cooldown
Then took my new tri kit and sports out to the lake for a test swim after work. Tri kit was great, figured out the bra was too small cup wise, so I'm getting the next size up. I like to unzip the tri top when I get on the bike to air things out a bit and it was all rather gratuitous. Need the next size up apparently for more coverage.
2500 yards in an hour and 6 minutes, which is good enough to make a half ironman swim cutoff (2112 yards in an hour 10 min). Granted, this was in a really calm lake, but also it was with no wet suit, which gives me a not insignificant improvement on speed. Of course, OWS is a crap shoot, so who knows what race day conditions would actually be like.

Thinking about pushing further on Saturday.
With these trips to China I have nothing but time to kill one the weekends. So I might as well make good use of it.

Hard to get a good swim on when the pool is 88 or higher. Body gets overheated too fast.
I wad loving it one winter morning when the heater cut out during the night. The pool was 73 in the morning.

That's why many people got out after 1 or 2 laps.
A couple weeks later they had a new rule. 77 minimum to allow people to swim. Apparently it is a rule set by the insurance company. Concern over hypothermia.0 -

pool was a lot cooler today and I am putting more focus on swimming over running for the next few months. Trying to get back up to my 2-2.5km most days. A mile nearly killed me this morning!
Am still in awe of @fishgutzy - I just cannot get that amount of time in a pool!1 -
@beerfoamy , it is easier when I am on travel to China. Nothing to do in a city. So I have plenty of time to swim in the weekends.
At home, I swim mostly when the rest if the family is sleeping.
The three driving factors in distance swimming are technique, persistence, and time. For many, the hardest part is time.1 -
No swims for me the last few days. Massive work stress and have subsequently become quite sick so will rest up and try to kick the bug.2

No swims for me the last few days. Massive work stress and have subsequently become quite sick so will rest up and try to kick the bug.
FWIW, I have found that swimming helps greatly reduce stress and increase my threshold for handling stressful work or life calamities.
When you recover, if your schedule and your gym schedule allow, try getting a swim in before with. Getting that chlorine and endorphin hit before work can help throughout the day.0 -

I swim before work for exactly this reason - I get so much more stressed if I haven't done my swim prior to looking at my emails! hehe
@emma0902 - hope you feel better asap and can get help with the work stress.
2000m for me today
1600m front crawl
10 mins break to chat to a mate I haven't seen at the pool in a while
400m front crawl
I have lost quite a lot of my endurance for longer swims since starting running! Back on it now!

Swam yesterday and today. Not long, rather on the medium to short side, but feeling better. I cannot explain why my swims ebb and flow as they do, except that I don't have that muscle memory from being a lifelong (or even childhood) swimmer. In any case, they're getting better, and my endurance is definitely improving.0
-
Yes I definitely use swimming for stress management and life balance etc but not while I'm laid up in bed sick lol. But definitely not before work - impossible with four kids and starting work at 7am! I'm a lunchtime or evening swimmer.2

Managed a short 2200m but didn't do the full session that I was meant to do.
