1 hour yesterday, due to be a rest day but after an hour of tax/ pension/ finance paperwork inside on a sunny day i went for an overdue haircut then shower/ swim/ jacuzzi combi.
new strength routine from today, so just 20 min swim to see how i feel tomorrow as cardio after strength was previously leading to serious DOMS.

I had that too when I swam after circuit training.

Definitely, it absolutely counts. You're gonna burn a whole hell of a lot between swimming & running around the park......

    Back in today after a week off, all freestyle: 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 1500, 1000, 500, 250 yards.....

It's amazing how much rust you can build in just a week, when I left off a week ago I was feeling really good in the water - felt like my form was back & I was feeling nice & strong. Today, it took almost the whole workout for my arms & shoulders to feel like they were starting to loosen up & I felt like I was flying out in all directions. My body was trying to convince me the whole time to just bail out & go home, but yet again thoughts of you guys kept me pushing through it. Here's hoping today was all I needed to shake the rust off & Monday goes much better......

Mac, the limbs flying out in all directions is how I usually feel, but you guys keep me in the water too! It's more than accountability; it's all of the encouragement that you give. I know that especially for those of you who have swum for years, you have been where I am now, and you know that it will get better, but that I have to work through it.

This is a great community of support here. And I'm sure you know it, but you'll be back to feeling like your usual swimmy self in now time!

Thanks, Curly - when I speak of you guys I mean it as encouragement more so than accountability. I take inspiration from all the posts about people pushing themselves to go further, how their times are dropping, how they're trying new things, how they're concentrating on certain areas & getting tem. I do feel a small sense of accountability in that I would feel hypocritical commenting if I wasn't willing to push through myself, but's it's so much more taking motivation than it is anything else. I think it's also somewhat therapeutic to be able to vent about not feeling it, & I think we all take something from it when we see that other people go through it too.......

No swim for me till Monday - Easter weekend means closed pool today and Sunday, and I don't go on Saturday's.
1650m in 60 minutes. I got to my 5th sprint set (25 sprint, 25 recover, 50 stroke work) and I was just kaput. Wasn't until I got out of the pool that I figured it was probably because of Masters+Run yesterday that I was so low energy.
On the bright side, I was maintaining a good DPS even when I was so tired. :)
Kida, what's DPS? And I know all about being absolutely kaput!
Distance per stroke - though really it's more like 'strokes per 25m'. I was taught that it's a much better way to gauge how something is working or how you're holding up when you're tired than speed.

see ...im a gamer geek ....DPS is 'damage per second' ...a measure of how effective your character is in a combat-centric game

52 minutes today ...felt totally outclassed by the guy a lane over today. He was 'lapping me' over and over.

Kida - a few days off isn't necessarily a bad thing, gives your body a few days to rest & repair the muscles....

Stephen - Doesn't matter what somebody else was doing or how fast they were doing it, you're there for you & to get done the things you want to do. When I coach the kids I always tell them that they aren't competing against anybody else & nobody else in the pool matters, they're swimming against the clock & if their times trend down they are doing what they are supposed to. For workouts, if you get in the work you want in the timeframe you want & you keep feeling better you're doing what you're supposed to as well.....

Laps last night, water fitness class this morning. It's going to be tricky to fit laps in on Saturdays now. I used to just hop over to the lap lane after class, but my daughter's lesson ends as my class begins, so it means that she has to wait almost 2 hours if I want to get laps/hot tub stretch/shower...

    Yes.

Fighting the dreaded Spring cold - no swim's for a few days until I can breath again.

52 minutes ...1400m, mix of strokes. Missed my swim yesterday, first day in two months ...feel a tad guilty for breaking the streak

Juliet - smart move, a few days off now to recover prevents a lot more days off after getting sicker....

Stephen - Although it's great to have a streak, time off is necessary too. No reason to feel guilty, it's a good thing for the body to have a chance to rest & let the muscles repair.....

    Happy Easter!!!!

    All freestyle today: 250, 500, 1000, 1500, 1500, 1000, 500, 250

What I was hoping for came to pass - after a week off I really felt the rust when I swam on Friday. I was hoping that the rust would be gone & I would feel better in the water today, which I did. I felt stronger than Friday & (more importantly) my stroke felt much more like it was closer to where it should be. I didn't feel like I was all over the place. Here's hoping it carries through to tomorrow, especially the strength part, since I'm doing the IM workout.....

    Have a great day, Folks!!!!!!!!

Ah-ha, Mac!! So it worked! Awesome :) I love to hear that. Those rusty swims are so hard to work through, but when you get the swing back, it's such a good feeling. Great swim!

I gave up after 1km today - to many darn kids around, and I was in a lane with one really fast 12 year old and one pretty slow 60 year old. But I got my drills in, so that's something.

3 miles continuous. Don't know the time; 90+ minutes. I usually forget to keep track of my starting time. Not that important to me at this distance.

Master's practice. Different coach today, so different style of workout. Some were complaining that he didn't really give any tips - I got some, but only because my arm was hurting after he told me to keep my elbow up and I asked questions. Apparently still need to rotate more!

Yep, grabbed 30 min after work. Working on that weaker side breathing among other things.

Masters practice. I think I probably got in 1800 yards of various drills in an hour. I got to wear my new suit! Our coach is not one to give a bunch of tips unless you are a new swimmer. I don't necessarily agree with it but that's her style.
