    Week One Challenge

As a member of the Walking Dead Fitness Challenge you need to be prepared if you want to survive and be a strong leader in the Zombie Apocalypse. Cardio, weight training and balanced eating are all important aspects of staying strong, fast and uneaten.

    Advanced:
Complete a minimum of 90 minutes cardio and 60 minutes of strength training of your choice. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain, stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    Intermediate:
Complete 80 minutes of cardio and 50 minutes of strength training of your choice. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain: stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    Beginner:
Complete 70 minutes of cardio and 40 minutes of strength training. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain: stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    All Team Members:

    1. Discuss with your team which punishment exercise to give the other teams should you win this week.
    2. Check your Character below and see your additional show-related tasks, rewards or punishments. If you don't have access to the videos do a 100 squat challenge 3 times this week.
    3. Post your results on the Scoreboard thread by Saturday Midnight Central.  You can post a day or two early, but no later or your numbers won't be added in with the rest of your team's.

Here are the Character tasks from this week's Premiere Episode. All physical tasks can be included with your cardio and strength requirements. Modify them to your own fitness level and remember to stretch before you get started.

    All Players
The theme of last night's show was overcoming incredible odds with few resources. Everyone did extremely well with makeshift weapons.  So, this week do at least one home workout with no equipment or with homemade equipment. The Character videos are all no equipment workouts. Or you can make your own equipment with advice from sites like here: http://pfitblog.com/2013/06/13/10-ways-to-transform-household-

    Rick:
Rick was able to save himself and others by making good use of his makeshift weapons and by taking advantage of Carol's explosive distraction. He got a lot accomplished with his hands behind his back so try this hands free workout video: http://youtu.be/vPwBZrMZngk
and include it in your strength totals.

Rick was also the only one who wanted no Termites left alive and he wounded Gareth. Give yourself kudos for that and reward yourself by taking the time this week to do a favourite activity or indulge in some new workout clothes or some quiet time with a good zombie book or movie.

    Daryl:
Even without his crossbow, Daryl killed plenty of zombies and enemies and was reunited with Carol. Get to know some of the Team Carol players and try this awesome and hard kickboxing video from fitnessblender. Perfect for a fighter like Daryl: http://youtu.be/UuUBRP3g73A

    Michonne:
As one of the show's best fighters, she didn't disappoint last night, even with a homemade sword. Try this kick-butt kickboxing and abs workout from fitnessblender that suits her perfectly.   http://youtu.be/F_6ps9cyFzo

    Carl:
Carl's optimism and belief in his father and the others returning to the train car gave the other survivors hope. This week, encourage your teammates in the challenge and another person in real life. Then try this fun kid's workout from fitnessblender that's great for adults too.  http://youtu.be/McD6_oOWs-M

    Judith:
Tyreese is responsible for saving her life and for reuniting her with your father and brother. Tyreese ' s weapon of choice is the hammer so try this pendulum lunge exercise with a hammer curl and include it in with your strength training minutes. http://youtu.be/wWZHv1NokMs

    Carol:
Carol kicked some major butt and saved the day. Reward yourself this week with a facial and a candlelit bubble bath! And after so much butt kicking, try firming your butt with this butt-of-course video with Jillian. http://youtu.be/U_JF3VYSuZE

    Glenn:
Glenn was next in line to be killed and eaten, but thanks to Carol and Rick, he was reunited with Maggie. Glen's talent is his agility.  Try this fun red light, green light fitnessblender video. http://youtu.be/Q7eT1RSsT90

    Maggie:
Like Carl, Maggie refused to believe that Rick, Glen, Michonne and Daryl wouldn't return. Share that optimism with your team inside the challenge and with someone outside of the challenge. You are a beautiful lady, reunited with your man so celebrate with this fun and sexy workout. http://youtu.be/ZSNKnkN4JFA

    Beth:
Beth wasn't shown last night but we know she is alive and that everyone is thinking about her. She seems to be in a prison or school type environment.  Do a boot camp workout like this one.
    http://youtu.be/FhXhOwlY2Ck

    Tyreese:
Through his love for Judith, Tyreese overcame a major fear in his life. In your life make a plan to do something that you find intimidating and get it done sometime over the course of this challenge.

This week, strengthen that lower body and those hammering muscles by trying this pendulum lunge and hammer curl  exercise and adding it to your strength training minutes. http://youtu.be/wWZHv1NokMs

    Bob:
Bob tried to reason with the  Termites to no avail. Some people can't see reason. Indulge your sensible side with this beginner's strength workout from another Bob. Bob Harper: http://youtu.be/naJtNxEuBqw

    Tara:
Last of the Governor's people, Tara has proven her intelligence, loyalty and fighting skills and perseverance.  She is a good candidate for fitnessblender ' s 100 rep squat challenge. http://youtu.be/mGvzVjuY8SY

    Abraham:
Even though he seems mostly concerned with protecting Eugene, we know that Abraham is a fierce fighter like Rick, Daryl and Michonne. Try this tough HIIT workout. http://youtu.be/cZnsLVArIt8

    Walker Horde:
The poor zombies didn't catch much of a break this episode, but they did get a few Termites including Mary. But with all the zombie fighters still alive you better workout quietly this week. http://youtu.be/gke_wunq7Ng

And, speaking of winners, in our last challenge, it was announced at the end that Team Carol were the overall winners of the season. They were consistent and compassionate, earning a secret power that was going to be revealed now at the start of the new challenge. That power is the Power of Resurrection.  All returning members of last season's Team Carol have the power to save themselves or someone else should their character be killed on the show. Instead of having to become part of the Walker Horde, the lucky player will be able to choose a new character and carry on. However, each Carol can only use this power once.

If you need any help with finding cardio or strength exercises, message me or your team leader and we will point you in the direction of some excellent, free online videos such as the fitness blender series, some of which are posted above. And if you're a newcomer and haven't done so already, join the group: Eat, Train, Progress and read their bookmarked threads for more awesome advice.

So we do the 70 minutes of cardio, the 40 minutes of strength training, stay under goal, AND the video workout? Or does the video workout count towards the 70 min cardio/strength training? Or do all 4 things?

Nevermind!! Figured it out. But I can't figure out how to delete this post...

No problem. You're right. Include all videos/side challenges/punishments etc in your totals.

Is the Michonne workout considered a cardio or strength workout? I get confused sometimes by these videos, as it seems they could apply to both - in which case how would you count it?

It will be different for everyone, depending on their fitness level and how intense they exercise. If you're unsure give half the minutes to strength and half to cardio.

I have a question for those of us who are pretty out of shape (I also have bad knees.). Can we split up the video, or do we have to do it all at once?

I did my workout routine for Team Daryl. If I want to use the video to do my "household item/no equipment" routine do I had to do the video routine twice or does the one time count for both challenges?

It can count for both and also counts towards your cardio or strength minutes.

I did Michonne's workout on Monday and the next day I just started at the top and did as much as I could all the way down. :) Today I start where I left off and go down again. :)

    Week 2  Challenge

If you've you've made made it to Week 2, you can consider yourself lucky to still be alive. Dozens of players haven't reported and are assumed to be zombified and will join the Walker Horde unless they communicate to us soon that they are still among the living. To strengthen the ranks of the the living and in the hopes of finding a cure in Washington, the three late sign ups from last  week will be allowed to choose a Character and play along.

    Advanced:
Complete a minimum of 100 minutes cardio and 65 minutes of strength training of your choice. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain, stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    Intermediate:
Complete 90 minutes of cardio and 55 minutes of strength training of your choice. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain: stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    Beginner:
Complete 80 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of strength training. Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain or gain: stay within your calorie goals for the week. You will earn your team 100 points for each of these three tasks for a total of 300 points provided you report on time.

    All Team Members:

    1. Once again, discuss with your team which punishment exercise to give the other teams should you win this week. This week's punishment will be posted on all of the team's threads once the winners are announced later today.
    2. Check your Character below and see your additional show-related tasks, rewards or punishments.
    3. Post your results on the Scoreboard thread by Saturday Midnight Central.  You can post a day or two early, but no later or your numbers won't be added in with the rest of your team's.

    All Players Week 2 Challenge
There was a plaque on the wall of Father Gabriel's church that said: And let us not grow weary of doing good. For in due season, we will reap. If we do not give up.
We all know that this is especially true when it comes to fitness. What we plan for consistently today is what we enjoy in the future. We all know that if you treat your body like a couch potato you'll become one, (regardless of what you started with) and if you treat your body like an athlete's you'll become one.

So the challenge this week for everyone is to think about where you want to be a year from now, fitness-wise, and to look at your daily routines and make sure that you are sowing the right seeds for the outcome that you desire. If not, change it up.

    Character Challenge :
Here are the Character tasks from this week's episode.  All physical tasks can be included with your cardio and strength requirements. Modify them to your own fitness level and remember to stretch before you get started.

    Rick:
Your mantra to Carl this week was to never let your guard down. Try Jillian ' s tough Cardio Kickboxing video:
     http://youtu.be/ROb-GUSB5KQ

    Daryl :
Good thing you have great instincts and you were keeping a close eye on Carol. Now you have a chance to rescue Beth! For this week's Character challenge you get to choose between Carol and Beth... I mean their videos from last week or this week. You're a lucky guy to have so many choices!

    Michonne:
Michonne has lost her sword and still manages quite well with any weapon. Keep that upper body strong with this fitnessblender:

No Equipment Upper Body Workout for Great Arms:
    http://youtu.be/CRGrcSDhynQ

    Carl:
Carl showed amazing growth this episode. He showed courage and compassion in wanting to rescue a stranger, but he wisely investigated around the church and noticed important things that his elders had missed. Reward your youthful wisdom this week by doing something you enjoyed as a child. Go to the playground, the zoo, a movie matinee, a sporting event or something similar and add this hero's workout to your strength routine this week.

    Superman Exercises: http://youtu.be/cc6UVRS7PW4

    Judith:
You were the first to vote for Abraham ' s idea to continue to Washington. So, like him, try Michonne ' s video.

No Equipment Upper Body Workout for Great Arms:
    http://youtu.be/CRGrcSDhynQ

    Carol:
In this week's episode, you seemed melancholy and distracted. In an forgiveness themed episode, you were a closed book and were clearly contemplating getting away from the group, despite Daryl ' s suggestion that you start over. Luckily Daryl read your mind and you are now off on an adventure together. So this week, do Daryl's video challenge from last week.
Cardio Kickboxing Workout - Full Length Kickboxin…: http://youtu.be/UuUBRP3g73A

    Glenn:
After tripping over boxes and accidently firing off your gun, it seems like you need to work on your balance and coordination. Try this total body balance workout.

     http://youtu.be/ROb-GUSB5KQ

    Maggie :
It was awesome that you had no trouble forgiving Tara for being part of the Governor's group in the fight at the prison that was responsible for the death of your father. As reward try this super fun Latin dance workout.

    Latin Dance Fitness for Beginners
    http://youtu.be/qa2IWYs3ags

    Beth:
Beth's rescue may not be far off. Hopefully you are keeping in top shape so you can aid in your own rescue. Try  another bootcamp video.

Denise Austin: Strength Boot Camp Workout:
    http://youtu.be/4APrCMWxrjY

    Tyreese:
As close as you are to your sister, you will be devastated if she loses Bob. Join him this week in learning one of the one legged exercises listed below his name and add it to your strength training routine this week.

    Bob:
Oh dear. Despite your optimism early in the episode it looks like you might have to learn one of these one legged exercises and add it to your strength training routine this week.

    Bulgarian Split Squat
    http://youtu.be/RCWkvwz7DoU

Pistol Squat (video details a progression for beginners to try, right up to insanely fit)
    http://youtu.be/1-Yuq9pD7JY

    One Legged Bridge:
    http://youtu.be/Y-6Gonx2Wpo

    Tara :
Good job in asking for and getting forgiveness from Maggie. Reward yourself by trying the fun Latin dance video with her:

Latin Dance Fitness for beginners:  http://youtu.be/qa2IWYs3ags

    Abraham:
Great speech about Washington. You've given the other's hope. You obviously admire Michonne ' s fighting techniques. Give her video challenge a try this week.

No Equipment Upper Body Workout for Great Arms:
    http://youtu.be/CRGrcSDhynQ

    Walker Horde:
This place is about to get crowded. The three previous Walkers can join a Character and do that challenge to make room for all the no shows this week. The no shows must do this old Richard Simmons  video:

I use the "aerobics" for anything like that. I feel like it's pretty accurate. I do Turbo Fire and Jillian Michaels.
