  • My next race is the Glass City 1/2 on 4/27, it is my tune-up race to see what training program I'm going to use for my summer/fall marathon training.

I'm only planning for one specific race right now - Grandmas Marathon (MN). I will likely choose a fall marathon later. If any smaller, convenient races come up along the way I'll run them too :)

My first half marathon - 16th of March. Its crossing the border, heading from Newry in Northern Ireland to Dundalk in the Republic. Have driven the route countless times, so will be fun running it ( gulp)

Just registered for a very fun race: The Scream half marathon in North Carolina. Since it descends over 2,000 vertical feet, it is super fast, and known as a PR course. I would never count this race as a PR, but this year I'm thinking about trying something a little tougher: Starting early at the finish line, running up to the start, and then doing the race.

Tomorrow, the Bath Half marathon, I was hoping for a new PR, but I have been selling my house and trying to buy a new one. Very stressful which has impacted on my training, and now, for the last week , I have had a sore throat, cough, and cold, you know "man flu", so we'll see.

I'm running the MudDogs 10k on Saturday, the last in a winter race series. Don't know what to expect. I PR'd in the February race, but my training has been a bit off since that race between bad weather, illness and now a nagging pain in my right foot. All 3 of my sisters and a niece are running too, so this time I think I'll enjoy the time with them and not worry about my time.

I'm scared to do a downhill race...won't that shred your quads? I guess that is only if you are holding back though...I agree it would be fun to go super fast downhill the whole time! Good luck with the trek up! :)

@Daisy471 Did you like that series? My parents live there and I have always contemplated doing one of the races while I was visiting.

    Yes, yes it will.

You can minimize it by doing downhill repeats in training. :)

I've got my sight set on a New Year's Eve marathon in Bellingham, WA called "Last Chance". Took a break from marathons after a dreadful experience at the Portland Marathon in 2010 but am itching to get back to it! Nice to meet you all!

    Completed:
    January 19 Carlsbad HM
    March 9 San Diego HM
    March 23 Hot Chocolate 15k
(I had less than amazing times for all three of these races)

Coming up the rest of the year:
    April 27 La Jolla HM
    June 22 Kona Marathon
August 17 AFC HM (San Diego)*
October 19 Nike Women's Half San Francisco

*I'm not registered for AFC and still debating whether to do this one. I may not be ready so soon after the marathon and the 10-day vacation after. :D

I don't have any other fall races planned yet. I want to do more new courses though. And other Southern California runners out there?
  • A slow race start to the year but am starting off my long distance races on Sunday with a 30k Road Race!

Around the Bay 30K March 30
    Limestone City Half April 27
Ottawa Race Weekend Half May 25

    What else?!?!?!?!

I'm signed up for the Smoky Mountain Relay on an Ultra team, April 25 and 26. This after swearing I would never do another Ultra relay! 215 miles on trails and gravel roads in North Carolina, with 5 other nutso runners, so we're doing nearly 40 miles each.

The difference this time is that you are free to run your legs in any order. My previous ultra relay involved running every 6th leg of 4-12 miles, a total of 6 legs each. There was no changing of order, and no substitution unless a runner dropped out completely. You only got about 3 hours of downtime between each leg, which meant there was little time for resting and recovery.

This time we are planning on running two legs at a time -- 10-15 miles, which means we'll have longer breaks, maybe 7 hours or so, and only three separate runs over the entire event. So hopefully it will be a little less painful than last time!

I probably posted on this board awhile back, but I did finally get my 2014 schedule finalized through October. I'm intentionally waiting to actually register for November & December in case I start to get burned out (don't want to sign up for more long races if I don't think I can handle it).

(Oh and my goal for 2014 is at least 1 race per month):

    Completed:
Jan 12 - Walt Disney World Marathon
    Feb 15 - Moab Red Hot 33K
    March 22 - 24 Hours of Utah - Moab 50K

    Upcoming:
April 19 - Desert R.A.T.S. (race across the sand) Trail Marathon
May 3 - Girls on the Run 5K
    May 4 - Cimarron 50K Endurance Run
May 17 - Black Canyon Ascent (6 Mile Run, 2000' gain)
May 18 - *HOPEFULLY* Colfax Marathon (I'm still trying to decide on this one, but I really want to do it because it's the day before my 26th birthday, and how cool would it be to run 26 miles for my 26th birthday?! But it's expensive, and I'm already pretty busy this month, hence the hesitation)
    May 26 - Bolder Boulder 10K
June 14 - Leadville Trail Marathon
July 19 - Aspen Valley Marathon or Half
August 17 - Pikes Peak Marathon
September 27 - The Bear Chase 50 Miler
October 4 - Black Canyon North Rim 20K
October 19 - Denver Rock'-n-Roll Marathon or Half
November - TBD (probably Moab Trail Half or Rim Rick Marathon)
December - TBD (probably Westminster Fa La La Half Marathon)
