This thread is specifically for posting ride reports. What is a ride report? It can be as simple as numbers (how far, how fast, elevation gain/lost), average speed, etc.) Or, it can be as complex as an intricate and detailed recounting of a specific ride you went on. It can be what you are planning on doing, and then you can post back later on how well the ride went. It's a "sticky" thread, like the "Welcome all cyclists" topic for this group, so you will be able to always see it and get to it easily.

Be happy, be healthy and be at ease on your bike!

Today's planned ride for me: Hopefully a pleasant 43 miler around Southern Indiana. The weather looks good, on the chilly side, but so far, wind is only at about 7mph.

Ok, I'll give it a shot...

Today I just went for my "regular - i've got around 1 hour and need to get a riding fix" ride...

details of route and all the various stuff the Garmin 705 records - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/128125056

Ride's actually a little longer than this - I start and stop the Garmin recording outside the village police officer's house, nearby where I live, just in case someone decides to break in and steal my bike

Today's was a really good ride - made a bit of a late start - 2:30pm so the sun was getting a little low in the sky by the end of the ride, but blue skies, 12c temperatures and sun all the way around - quite a contrast to the weather for the last week, where there's only really been one day where it's not been raining

Felt so good on the bike, I actually caught and passed another bike rider :noway: ON AN UPHILL SECTION - that's pretty much unheard of for me

Awesome ride BigYin! Mine is at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/128166130.

The essential numbers from the Garmin are below, although breaking down the numbers is really not saying much. Seems like the Garmin 305 as of late been substantially different than my Cateye wireless, and they used to be right on the money. I may need to figure out which is wrong, but I suspect the Garmin.

The ride was spectacular. It was a sunny but windy day in Southern Indiana. Really gusty up on the ridge lines where I spent the bulk of the ride. Cool, but not too cold, around 50. And just beautiful. Rolling farmland and sparsely trafficed rural roads for most of the way. I got pretty winded on some hills; I haven't been riding as much. But I loved every second of it!

Oh and I got a new cassette earlier in the week, went from a 12-27 to an 11-28, plus a new rear derailleur, and this ride was sort of a shakedown for the new stuff. I still may need a new chain, got some slips in the small ring, but I am gonna try to make it until Spring on the one I have now.

    Distance: 41.88 mi
    Time: 2:36:39
    Avg Speed: 16.0 mph
    Elevation Gain: 1,973 ft
    Calories: 3,046 C
    Moving Time: 2:35:41
    Avg Speed: 16.1 mph
    Max Speed: 37.3 mph
    Avg HR: 148 bpm
    Max HR: 172 bpm

I've just been playing with the software on my new bike trainer, and apparently it can use the files you can export from programs such as Garmin Connect as a source file for a training route...I really hope this thread takes off, as it could provide me with a really interesting source of rides for the rainy / snowy days to come

The day promised to be a sunny day, and it started that way, but quickly turned to cloudy and cold. My son, Brandon (13) and I decided to ride with mostly tail wind, but the wind was pretty gusty, so we encountered lots of crosswind also.

You can view a map of our ride here:
    http://j.mp/tjxA6E

I'm using new equipment, so I wanted to test out my entire gear range. I found that when I'm in my 22 (44-33-22) on the front, and in my 36 (11-36) on the back, that I can only go about 3 MPH. However, the gear is great on steep hills. Also, the bike will top out at about 25 Miles per Hour in 44 on the front, and 11 on the back. I'm happy with that, as I'm not in to going fast anyway.

Winds were 20 MPH out of the south, but would also swing out of the East. It was blowing us all over the place.

Over all, we were happy on the ride.

First 10.5 Miles were on a 8 foot wide, paved bike trail. Next 2.5 miles were on a crushed limestone trail, which my new Kona handled just fine. Then, the rest of the trip was on 8 foot wide, paved trail with some on road jaunts where trails connected.

If it hadn't been so cloudy and cold, it would have been an epic ride.

Rode up old Route 66 today; it is located 2 miles from my house. 70 degrees, nice strong tail wind. Little bit of a crosswind in spots. Probably the last really beautiful day to ride this year.

Miles 3 through 10 are on a bike trail; everything else is Route 66. Lots of nice historical buildings, and a great shoulder to ride on from Mile marker 16 on up to the end.

Strong crosswinds tonight, so I just stuck to the bike trail. Up and back. Great temps for riding, just lots of crosswinds from the west.

Brilliant ride today - did my West Bretton Loop over 4 minutes faster than last attempt - 2m22s of which was in the big climb.

Average speed up from 12.8 to 13.4mph overall and burning nearly 200kcal LESS... that MUST be something to do with being 15.8lb lighter than I was last time around...

    Todays Ride log at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/129239227
( previous log for comparison at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/121705799 )

And what the statistics don't tell you - it was a Beautiful Late Autumn Day - 6-7c (43-45f) Sunny, 5-6mph breeze and just fantastic to be out and riding the bike

Now - is a 1977kcal burn enough to justify a large coffee and a couple of biscotti

Heck yeah on the 16lb difference, and as for the coffee and biscotti, also heck yes. Especially biscotti with the dark chocolate.

Sounds like a great day, and a great day to ride. The biggest thing I've noticed since the beginning of the year is I no longer break spokes all the time. At the beginning of the year (about 60 pounds ago), I was breaking spokes every two days.

Haven't broken spokes for years - though I did rip them out of the rim on a Mavic 717 rear wheel - pulled the eyelets clean through the rim and ripped the metal like paper! I did also tear the spokes out of a Shimano hub - breaking the hub flange!! - but it was one of the cheapie range, and when I took it back to the LBS they gave me full credit then and there against a pair of Fulcrum Racing 5's (the over-built version I ones - with 27 spokes in the rear wheel - 18 on the drive side 9 on the other)

The owner of the LBS said to me "Break these if you can - I've been running a pair on my racing tandem for 9 months now and haven't even had to touch them with the spoke key!"

He was right - they've been great - a bit harder / less forgiving than handbuilts as with all machine wheels, but i've done about 8k on them so far, and all i've had is a couple of the nipples unwinding on me - a drop of loctite, and tighten 'em up, and they've been sweet as!

Another excellent ride today - roads were just too wet and horrible after last couple of days of fog and drizzle, so I thought I'd take to the bridleways and get the MTB out for a change. As a concession to it being late November, I even fitted the crudguards before setting off. Managed just over 15 miles, mostly offroad, on bridleways and disused rainway lines, but with a couple of quiet roads to lnk up the muddy stuff. Nothing technical, difficult or particularly challenging - in fact it would have been a perfect route for a 'cross bike - a hardtail MTB with a good 4" of suspension up front was certainly overkill

Route details should be available at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/130123347 - sorry there's no cadence data - i've never really felt the need for it on the offroad bike - it's never really been about keeping up a smooth pedalling effort on the dirty stuff for me - it's more about going out, and getting covered in mud, like you did when you were a kid - only now, there's nobody to shout at you for doing it!

Only regret was I couldn't find my over-shoes - and as I hit a 10" deep puddle within the first mile, cold wet feet were pretty much the order of the day - it took a good 10 minutes in the shower before they began to look pink rather than blue...
