I read part of A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane. I wish I hadn't. It was so bad that I quit. As far as it goes, it was supposed to be an irreverent Western, but it fell completely flat for me. I guess it was based on a movie that I will never watch.
Now I am reading Sentinels of Fire (World War II Navy book 3) by P. T. Deutermann. I like this historical fiction author. Not as good as Jeff Shaara, but not many are.1 -

Game of Thrones, book 2: Clash of Kings
I avoided the GoT books for years, figuring if non-fantasy peeps liked it, I wouldn't. But for once, the public perception was correct, and I've enjoyed these books immensely.1 -

I'm kind of in that boat too. I hear everyone rave about the books and show and keep meaning to get to them, but if they are so popular probably I wouldn't like as much as everyone and be let down. I have read other GRRM stuff though and really liked it, I don't know why I hold off? Wildcards series is great, granted he was just an editor and other authors contributed, but still. I've read some non GoT stuff too by him and liked it.0 -

It's nice when the group gets it right for a change! I've been disappointed by many bestsellers. Great to hear of one that didn't disappoint!
Speaking of crowd pleasers, I finally finished the Guido Brunetti book I was reading (#27 in a series of 31!), and I've started something completely different, an edition of letters by an early Moravian settler to Pennsylvania called The Letters of Mary Penry: A Single Moravian Woman in Early America, by Scott Gordon. Very far from my normal fare, but worth a glance.1 -

I have the first 3 books sitting on my TBR shelf(pile) - Haven't started them because I felt the same way. Glad to hear you are enjoying them. May try to start the books this year.

I am 73% finished with the 50 hour immersion read of "Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone" (Outlander book 9) and I'm a little bit bogged down by some of the William parts of the story but overall it is awesome. Just 13.5 hours to go, a little more than a normal sized book. Maybe I'll be done this week!0

I started with the Natchez Burning Trilogy and have gone back and started reading all the Penn Cage books. I hear he's writing another one - Amazon has it with as September release date. They are great and hard to put down.

Still slowly reading Amartya Sen's memoir Home in the World. I'm learning a lot!1

I read Time Will Tell by Barry Lyga and it was just mediocre. Now I am reading The Dragon's Dagger by R.A. Salvatore, it is better but my go-to fantasy genre, it seems to be better than book 1 in the series though (this is book 2).0

Tai-Pan by James Clavell, the epic novel of the founding of Hong Kong (Asian Sage book 2).
And in other news, the baseball lockout is over, and players report to Spring camp Sunday. Hurray for everything!1 -
I read Shogun by James Clavell the first time when I was a teenager. I could not put it down, literally. I remember my mom yelling at me to put the book down at the breakfast table and eat my cereal. LOL.
Currently reading Razorblade Tears by S. A. Cosby1 -
Well having the flu has given me plenty of time to read. I just finished We Were Liars - by E. Lockhart. 5 Stars - plot twist definitely caught me by surprise.0

The Oracle Year - Charles Soule0

Finally finished The Every by Dave Eggers. I was amused, horrified, irritated, intrigued, terrified... This book hit all kinds of chord. "Like" isn't the right word, but you won't remain untouched.0

That one was kind of short, so I am continuing with book 2, Siege and Storm.
There is a show based on this series but I am not sure if it is a mashup of the book plots, or follows the books strictly? I'm going to finish this trilogy before watching it so I don't accidentally spoil book 3 or something.0 -
Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman
I'd started this a while ago, but gotten distracted. Returning to it now, when the world is in so much discord was good. There is still hope!
