"Just" being the important qualifier here. The best choices are those where emotional needs are met and choices are also informed by a rational assessment of long term interests. If there's a head/heart clash, however, I think women tend to go with their heart (despite knowing it's not sensible to do so). Men are just as driven by their emotional needs but are often not tuned in to them at all, so especially when they are younger, they tend to approach mate selection on an entirely logical basis, much as if they were solving a difficult crossword puzzle. (eta: exaggerating slightly here to make a point - I know many men do in fact have high emotional intelligence) 0 -
