I'm just really tired but honestly I'm just so happy that I'm still pregnant. I just keep remembering that. Also today is the day I'm telling my family I'm pregnant. I'm excited and nervous.

Hope it was a great moment for everyone!

My mom and sisters were ecstatic and my nephews. My husband also told his mom but she just annoyed me

Awesome job. You look to be right on track to your target weight gain goal. I heard anything you gain after 36 weeks is just water weight (don't know if it that's true).

@wantoldme how did your MIL annoy you? I kind of want to hear the story haha.
I think the baby is still gaining about 0.1 oz a day, so after 36 weeks you're still gaining weight due to the baby not just water. That's my impression anyway.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that sounded right. But regardless you're one of my inspirations because you are sticking to your goal.

I only have a MIL and brother in law and his wife. My husband's father passed away last year and the rest of their family is out of the country. My family lives in another state (just some background info).

So my husband called her last night. I told her he could after I told my family. She immediately calls my mom and tells her the news (acting like it's a big scoop that only she knew and tells my mom to not tell anyone). My mom pretended it was a surprise and my MIL called me after and told me what she did. It annoyed me because first of what if I wanted to tell my mom and secondly who are you to tell my mom not to say anything to anyone. Also she then started telling me she is coming up with a list of baby names for baby. She already has said before that she wants to name the child (which isn't happening). Then she started saying stuff in Farsi like oh God give your child, husband, and your child's uncle (her other son) good health but somehow neglected to say anything about me. WTH. Then my brother in law called and said I can't believe I didn't know sooner. He said I don't "look pregnant" at all and he usually has a pregnancy radar. He also said now we would see each other more which is annoying because I can only take him in small doses. Also they were like your lucky your child will have cousins here. In my mind I'm like no im not. I wish my adorable nephews were closer but thank God I have some family in Virginia. All in all my in laws maybe small in number but they are so pushy. Also I have seen how my mother in law tries to diminish the mother daughter bond between her other daughter in law and grandchild. It's like she is in such competition. I don't want that happening to me.

Well that's alot to handle! Keep in mind there is so much only you can provide for the first year, so you already won the "who is more important to baby" battle. Try not to let her get to you, and feel free to put your foot down where you need to. Its your family! Make sure hubby knows how you are feeling too so he can be on your side.

What is happening??? I am very concerned that I have gained almost 10 pounds and it's only week 16. I've been trying to be really careful about what I've been eating and most days have hovered right around my calorie goals and sticking to lean proteins, fruits, and veggies. I know I'm supposed to gain a pound a week in the second trimester, but it's already been 6 pounds in just two weeks. At this rate, I will be shooting past 200 lbs when all is said and done. Mostly I am worried about baby's health and my own. I have a dr appointment today so will see what she says.

See what the doctor says. Do you feel like your retaining water anywhere? Could be a hormone things going on too. I started gaining alot faster around 16 weeks too, but so far its been averaging to about 1lb/week.

    Week 31: ????? On vacation
    Week 32: 5/13: 178.6 (+24.6)
    Week 33: 5/20: 178.6 (+24.6)

Holding steady!! YAY! This was the pattern with my past pregnancies too. Weight gain slowed/stopped at this point. So, hopefully I won't end up too far off from my goal of 25 lbs. My last babies came naturally (no complications) at 36w3d and 37w5d, so if I follow that pattern again too I won't have too long to go. (though we want 37 weeks + of course!)

    Time for my weekly check-in.

This is my first pregnancy, and I am shooting for a 25-30 lb. weight gain.

    Height: 5'3"
    SW: 115

    Week 17: 116 (+1)
    Week 18: 117 (+2)
    Week 19: 119.5 (+4.5)
    Week 20: 120 (+5)
    Week 21: 121 ( +6)
    Week 22: 123.5 (+8.5)
    Week 23: 124.5 (+9.5)
    Week 24: 124.5 (+9.5)
    Week 25: 125.5 (+10.5)
    Week 26: 126.5 (+11.5)
    Week 27: 126.5 (+11.5, cumulative)

So my actual weight this morning was 125.5, but I don't believe that for a second since it's the lowest number I've seen all week. My trend weight is still slowly increasing, but I haven't had any more crazy jumps.

One more week until the third trimester! I have so much to do, but I really can't wait to meet my girl (after she's done cooking, of course).

@getfitgal123-You're getting so close, but I hope you make it to 37+ weeks as well!

Lucky you! I feel bad for the women that swell up really bad in the last few weeks, it sounds so miserable.

The doctor said I'm a bit high for weight gain at this point but as long as I'm eating healthy, staying within the healthy range of calories, and exercising regularly, she's not concerned. She said some women gain steadily over the course of the pregnancy, and others do not, and still others do everything they're supposed to re: diet and exervise and still gain more than what the average recommendation is. Sounded like beyond diet and exercise (two big things for sure), it's largely out of my hands and she's not concerned unless it seems like I start to be at risk for things like high blood pressure or gestational diabetes. Fingers crossed I can figure out how to manage this so baby and I are both healthy and safe.

I believe that! There is alot of historical data in this thread, you can see there have been plenty of women who worked really hard to manage their weight and it still just didn't cooperate, everyone is a bit different, and every baby can cause different results for the same woman too. Its a difficult game to play, that's for sure!

I am glad to hear your doctor isn't getting on your case about it. I feel so bad for women who are trying hard and their doctors still lecture them about it. At some point I wonder if its worth the mental stress they are putting on the patient.

Sort of related, but not totally, I started overweight, so that obviously puts me at a higher risk for different issues through pregnancy. None of my doctors have really hounded me about weight, but it does come up often since it effects everything. My husband has gone to alot of the appointments with me, one day we were leaving and appointment and he was like "sheesh, they never miss a chance to tell you your fat do they?" It just made me laugh. None of them have done it in a way that upset me so far, but I saw where he was coming from. My husband is such a tactful guy.

Random question- I'm only 6 weeks along but I will definitely update my numbers when possible! Anyways- for those of you who were actively losing weight before you got pregnant, how did you adjust your calorie intake? Most of us were likely eating at a deficit prior to pregnancy (I'm assuming) so what did you do to find the balance between not eating at a deficit, and not eating too much?

I ate about 100 calories below maintenance for the first several weeks or maintenance on days where I felt more hungry and needed a little extra. There were definitely a couple throw away days in there too, but I didn't find they effected me that badly as long as I was keeping track most days. (Keep in mind I started at 210 lbs so maintenance for me was 2300 calories, maintenance may not be enough for someone smaller since they would have less calories). Not going to lie, the last 2 weeks I have barely tracked at all, I need to get back to it! I am shooting for 2-300 above maintenance right now (week 23). I am trying to keep my gain to 20 lbs. Make sure you figure out whats appropriate for you depending on your starting weight.

@MrsS8214 During the first trimester I tried to eat at maintenance. During the 2nd trimester I ate at maintenance +300 and during the third started out at maintenance +500, but haven't really been tracking the last month or so - I'm 35w4d. I had morning sickness until about week 26 - and didn't really have any gain until the 2nd trimester because I didn't have much of an appetite. And I'm back to not really having an appetite, so I haven't been tracking. I've gained about 20-22 pounds so far and my OB says I'm doing great and right on track so I haven't been too worried about logging - but will definitely be getting back to it once this baby finally decides to be born (I'm getting super impatient).

If you have more specific questions, definitely talk to your OB/midwife. That's what they're there for. If you find that maintenance has to you too hungry, add 100 calories for a bit and see how it goes and just kinda play around with it until you find what works for you/your body/your doctor. Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

Ugh me too! Sleeping is awful now! I'm 36 weeks + 3 today so very close to you. The baby isn't kicking me awake or anything (thank you placenta on the front!) but sleeping on my side is actually painful. I've been getting sharp pains in my muscle on my side as well as on my belly (and no amount of pillows are helping). Going to talk to the midwife about that... The only position that is comfortable any more is one they told me not to sleep in (on my back but propped up). So I either need to find a way to make either sitting up to sleep work, sleeping on my side to work, or learn to sleep standing up.

@VeryKatie Ha, I typed it wrong. I'm 36w4d - don't need to be adding any more time on!! 3 and a half weeks to go... or less... please be less... Due June 16th (Hubby's birthday). Sleep? What's sleep? I use my maternity pillow and it helps with the belly support - but I usually wake up several times to turn over to my right side (which I know I shouldn't, but I get tired of sleeping on my left side) and/or have excruciating leg/foot/ankle/knee cramps.
