Starting June 18th!

*Sorry about the date, can't change the topic lol* :blushing:

I'm starting June 19th. I purchased spiffy new running shoes so if nothing else, I need to justify that expense. Anyone wants to join me on this epic adventure is more than welcome to!

I'm sure it's going to suck at first, I will probably cuss myself out a few times, my legs will stage a protest but I shall endeavor to perceiver!! I'll post the exploits of my journey, both follies and victories. This week will be Tues, Thurs, Sat but I plan on moving it up a day next week to start on Mondays. Yes, there was part of me that wanted to put it off till next week. lol

I ran a bit in my Navy days but nothing since then. With the exception of running from or after something for a short distance. So, this should be interesting!

good for you for not putting it off :) persevere! I'd love to hear how you do.
New shoes are a great investment for you feet an comfort. I also downloaded some free podcasts and that is really good for timing and motivation during the run.

I planned on using the iPhone app to help with the timing and building a playlist to listen to. What do the podcasts consist of?

Its a 30 minute program - someone talking to you for time and motivation with music in the background. With the app you can play your own music, which some people prefer. There are quite a few free c25k podcasts if you want to try it out. I like the extra motivation in the podcast, and the fact that all my music sucks :)

Good luck... If you were in the Navy this will be a piece of cake! :) I really liked using the couch 2 5k app. It was only two bucks for Android.

Thank you! Running 5k's was a normal occurrence back then and I was a slim 197, which may be a tad light for me. At one point I had to go in for an inguinal hernia surgery which resulted in completions and a year and a half of pain therapy and two more operations. So, I've been a little hesitant. Not going to let the past define my future though!!

    Also, muay thai... awesome!

Ok… day one is in the books!! Not as bad as I thought it would be. I did however, learn a few things.

    Lessons Learned:
    1. Consider mapping out your route. I had no idea there were so many $*#&$%* hills in my neighborhood.
    2. If you wear an armband for your phone, put it on the outside of your shirt. Maybe it’s just mine but it rubbed a little.
    3. I think I’m allergic to running. Or maybe my nose just wants to run too!
    4. Breathing is a learned skill. Who’d of thunk it?
    5. My body takes FOREVER to cool off. That’s fun!!
    6. My shake after my run upset my stomach slightly. (Note to self, check expiration date on milk)
    7. Need to make my own playlist. Pandora interrupted with a commercial and that kinda killed it. (Yes, I know if I pay for it I don’t have to listen to them. No, that’s not going to happen.)

Only got a little stitch in my side but it quickly went away during one of the walking portions. Also, I’m going to try turning on my run keeper app at the same time so I can hopefully, track distance and speed. Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Hi all, I just did Day 1 Today as well. RandyAMC, someone also started a separate c25k group here for people who just started.

So far, it wasn't as bad as I feared... But it's sort of hard to imagine running too much longer! But hopefully my tolerance will build. Thanks for the podcast info -- will have to check it out.

Yeah, you are doing great!! I need to work on my inbetween days!!

It it grows it grows, if not it's a place where I can look how I have progressed. I did look for that other thread but didn't find it. If you or anyone else comes across it let me know.

Ok, day two complete!! And OMG the pain!!!! So, I must stress again, start on flat or semi flat surfaces. The muscles running down the sides of my shines are amazingly sore, which I attribute to jogging downhill. It was mildly painful running on flat surfaces, almost felt good uphill but omg painful downhill.

So, the first 2 run segments were very painful as my body warmed up and caught on to what I had planned for it. I also learned that I am a sweat producing machine!!! During the run, no problem. During cool down, no problem. During my shower... what really? After shower and getting dressed... you gotta be kidding me. Drive to work... omg finally cooling off. lol

Side note, woke up late today, slept like crap but didn't let it stop me. Keep charging!!

once again I opted for the treadmill for my C25K, i know why it is easier! mainly because i do not own
a pair of decent headsets for my iphone and the darn earbuds fall out when i run on the street lol

i am using a pair of NIKEFREE shoes which are SUPER COMFY and i added insoles from "The Walking Store"
for another $50 and i should say totally worth it. seems to cut down on leg and shin pain somewhat...at least for me!

the more we sweat the more toxins are being released from our system, be blessed with lots of sweat! great job!
    :drinker: Best!

Way to go!! I found a decent little path near home. It's going to be to short once I get to your week so I'll have to check out it out more tomorrow on a walk. Yeah, I have a pair of the over the ear type, they really help.

I heard about "The Walking Store" insoles. I think that's what I tried out at REI. I ended up opting for a pair of Asics and so far my feet seem happy about my choice.

Ok, I'll consider myself blessed but that will totally be my NSV once I don't take so long to cool off haha. Congrats on another great day!!

Ahh the day after. So, after some googling I've decided I most defiently have shin splints. The muscle varity not the bone varity. Recoomended treatment? Stop running for a week. Ha, that's not happeneing! So, I will strech more, incorperate a little foam roller work and some kind of icey hot or something. If it dosn't get better after a week or more, I'll consider the idea of time off but not until then haha. Happy Friday!

Felt strong today and pushed a little harder but found myself really out of gas towards the end. Then for some reason I decide to go biking for 27 miles later in the day. Calves kept trying to cramp up despite the copious amounts of stretching. Good day though, and fun ride along the American River.

Oh, and I created a playlist from that jog.fm site that was recommended on another thread. Gonna give it a go this weekend. Kayaking tomorrow!!! :)

Ok, sooooo. I was beckoned into work early so no run this morning. If it's cool enough I do it when I get home or just stick with Tues, Thurs, Sat this week. On a postive note, I went on a 27.6 mile bike ride this weekend and a short kayaking trip. Happy Monday!

This was my first time running in the evening. I was lacking in the energy department. I tried to keep to the 10 minute mile tempo from jog.fm and did it for the first couple of run segments. After that I would start out strong in the following ones but slow down a bit towards the end. Today really pushed me. But if we don't push ourselves we don't grow right? Decided to start a simple beginners work out type plan on my in-between days to do something more to reach my goals. Hope everyone else is kicking butt. Until next time...
