October Challenge - Me vs. The Binge

edited December 2024 in Social Groups
Well this challenge is a challenge with youself. The challenge is to for you to win in the fight against "The Binge". Many of us struggle with binging and a few of us have found that making "The Binge" a person has helped us fight the emotions or urge to binge.

So the objective of the challenge is to have more days for you (Me) than the "The Binge".

When you have a day you do not succumb to binge urges or binge give yourself (ME) a point. When you give in to the urge to binge you give 'The Binge" a point. No beating yourself up about it because tomorrow is another day. Honesty with yourself is crucial for it to help you and others.

So we keep score with ourselves the whole month. We encourage on another along the way. Please feel free to share you ups, downs, successes, struggles, etc. You will find you are not alone. See below for format. Feel free to use it or use your own format. This Challenge keeps you mindful of binging and the daily support and accountiability helps also.

Check in often. The more you check and share the better you will do for the month. So are you in? You are stronger than the The Binge. One day at a time.

Hi Mollie, thanks for the welcome! I'm in! September was not too good for me. I will check in every day, most likely in the afternoon because that's when I struggle the most. So far so good for me today, but that could be because yesterday was not good but who cares, I'll take it.

    So, here goes!

Job interview today. Looks good except for no longer being a SAHM and losing my gym time!

    Hi ladies,
I'm going to do my best to be accountable and to avoid binging as much as I can. Today the binge has won but tomorrow will be a new day! I have a lot on my plate lately and could really use the support.

September was pretty horrible for me. Tried to up my cals and it just led to losing control. I need to learn how to relax and go over my cals by a couple of hundred, rather than losing control and going over by a few thousand.

In October I’m taking control, allowing myself to CONSCIOUSLY over-eat but stopping before binging.

Hi everyone, had a good binge-free day yesterday and so far today but I am feeling the urge to binge, or at least eat more even though I'm not hungry. I know why and I'm doing my best to work through it. I do not want the binge monster to win today!!

    Thanks guys!!

This is a big problem for me too, a few hundred over is really nothing but for some reason it starts with that and then I end up with a "screw it" mentality and go over thousands! I like this, "consciously" over eat.

I was proud of myself today because we went to meet up with friends and I knew we were having pizza and I had one slice and throughly enjoyed it and then stopped. I am trying to let myself eat anything without restrictions but to really taste and enjoy then just stuffing my face and barely remembering what I ate.

October Goal: I'd like to read Geneen Roth's "eating guidelines" (first posted by Mollie...thx!) early in the day each day to remind myself how to approach food and eating.

    beatrixia: 2
    The Binge: 0

analysis: I didn't eat the healthiest foods today, and I went over by a couple of hundred calories. But I did log everything, and looking back over my log I can see how each eating experience was fairly controlled. I met some of my food goals, too. Not a perfect eating day, but not a binge-y one either.

 Daily Reminders--Geneen Roth's Eating Guidelines
    1. Eat when you are hungry. (Truly hungry, body hungry not mind hungry)
    2. Eat sitting down in a calm environment. This does not include the car.
3.Eat without distractions. Distractions include radio, television, newspaper, books, intense or anxiety producing conversation and music.
    4. Eat only what your body wants. (Big difference from what your MIND wants!)
    5. Eat until you are satisfied. (This is different than full.)
    6. Eat (with the intention of being) in full view of others.
    7. Eat with enjoyment, gusto and pleasure.

Good job Elizebeth!! That is also a Geneen Roth guideline. To eat food slowly and really enjoy the food.

GOAL: Go more than two weeks without binging. I've noticed a pattern of binging every other weekend. Still trying to figure out why.
