The polls in some east coast states just closed. A friend posted this on Facebook earlier today. I think it is rather eloquent so I thought I'd share it, even if it has nothing to do with being single.
When the votes have been tallied, I don't want to hear people talking about moving to Canada, rooting for the country to fail so we can blame the leader, or any other crazy talk. This is America...we stand TOGETHER to face our problems. I truly believe both candidates love our country and their families. They are generally good people at the core. Don't spread rumors and lies about them on Facebook, don't photoshop pictures of them to make them look foolish, and don't dismiss their ideas just because they come from the "other" party. You can disagree without disrespecting. No matter who wins, let's unite behind a leader, pray for everyone, and trust that God is in control.

I like and agree with everything except that God being in control part0
-
Thank you, I completely agree with this.0

I figured the God and pray reference would bother some people but it is what it is. The sentiment would be a nice change.0

I'm a socialist and an atheist. I will be leaving this country at my earliest convenience. However, despite how I mouth off sometimes about it, I don't want anything bad to happen to it because my family lives here. So I wish it, and all of you, the best of luck.0

I agree and I will go one further! Im a conservative but registered independent, I have always respected the Office Of the President no matter who the man is! I have my personal desire but I truly want what is BEST for our Land of The Free and Home of The Brave. Keep encouraging one another... B.McG0

I'm watching US 2012 - live in Ohio at present,
Obama 3
Romney 19
Good Luck America, may the best man win! :flowerforyou:0 -
I disagree with the part that only mentions two parties.
False dichotomy. VOTE THIRD PARTY! Wooooo
I did agree with the message intent though. I do get frustrated when people are too busy being blind to see that good and bad can come from anywhere.0 -
Gary Johnson
If not you just voted for a statist!0 -

Hey we don't mind if you want to come, we've still got lots of space in Canada. Health care, igloos, trees. It's pretty cool actually.0

the winter weather is what deters me . and the fact that it seems to be 8 months of winter there
@kitsune: noen of the 3rd party candidates were interesting to me. otherwise i totally would have done that. only once in my life have i 100% voted for someone i wanted to win rather than voting for someone because i 100% dont want another person to win.0 -

Why waste my time? They'll never win until and unless a whole lot more Americans start realizing they exist and start looking at what they stand for. Or until corporate money is out of politics. Neither of which is likely in my lifetime.0 -

The part that's funny, is there are so many people who think like you - they think they're wasting their vote if they don't go with the major party. If people instead actually voted for who they wanted instead of abstaining or voting for a "lesser evil", we would be stuck in a two party system.0 -
It's true, I don't think I can make a difference, so I don't care anymore. And I sure don't bother to vote. I've given up. Although I admit I'm following it all with morbid fascination. Especially the possibility of voting machine shenanigans. Reminds me of 2000 and 2004.
Oh, and as for third parties, I voted for Nader in 2000. The dems were pissy about that for years.0 -
^^
Principal over party.
I think wasting my vote would be voting for someone who i disagree with.0 -

what ya got? what ya got?? We just showed 56 Obama - 40 Romney
I keep thinking of Jenbit when they mention Florida - hey Jen, have you voted yet?? Hurry up, and dont keep us waiting for days!!! :laugh:0 -
Now I have Obama 64 Romney 82.
I am also freaking out about Minnesota's "defining marriage" amendment. I haven't seen any projections yet and I'm so nervous.0 -

:brokenheart: this makes me a little sad.
as for voting for a non dem or repub, unfortunately it's a catch 22 . i think part of the reason there are no viable 3rd or 4th party candidates is because they are usually depicted as being so completely on the fringe or so ignorant of bigger picture issues beyond their specialized interests that most people wouldnt want to vote for them. i think at the moment the biggest party that would be able to move more mainstream are the libertarians, but they have a long way to go before i'd ever vote for them0 -

They're not visible because they don't have the corporate funding of the two main parties nor are they permitted to participate in debates.0 -

how does it work in other countries like the UK? who pays for their campaigns?0 -
I voted for the first time today! So, there's that.
I just can wait for this whole thing to be over and done with. The way people are tearing each other apart is KILLING me.
The one thing that I'm REALLY watching and waiting for is Michigan's 6th proposal. I really hope people did their research on that one... Ugh.0 -

As far as I know, private money funds at least part of the election process in every country. Now I'm going to have to go see if I can find a country where private money is completely banned.
Edit: Found one, sort of.
There are four main sources of funding for Swedish political parties: direct public funding, indirect public funding, income from party membership, and lotteries conducted by parties or their affiliated organizations. The main source is direct public funding given to political parties during election periods and between elections, with the amount based on performance in the previous election and current representation in the legislature. Indirect party funding is typically provided through the party-affiliated press, which is publicly subsidized. Although membership in political parties has declined, income from membership still remains important, representing between 5-10 percent of the total budget of the two main parties in the early 1990s. Some political parties or their affiliated organizations receive income from lotteries; the Social Democrats are particularly successful in this respect. Although no law prohibits political parties from receiving funds from private businesses, party leaders agreed in the 1970s to refuse such contributions.

Nothing, just wait until things get bad enough here that you all have to put up a fence to keep us out! :laugh:0
