February 2013 and Time to MAKE it Happen!

Good Morning Hatters,

Congrats to the Ravens for winning the Superbowl. I am hoping to have a WIN in the month of February. I know that I have been more absent than not in January, however, now that I am starting to heal and get things together, I know I can do this. YOU all make my days so much brighter and I expect to see great changes. Last year I was able to lost 30 pounds just by making small changes in my diet and exercise. The biggest changes came from knowing all of you. With that said, let's have a great month and support and encourage one another. I know I am in it for the long haul!

XOXOXOX

    Happy February Everyone!

I just love this month with Ground Hog's Day groundhog_zps30a6bd93.jpg ,

(BTW I was reigning Miss Groundhog 4 years in a row in high school for being able to make the best groundhog face; I started out young with the cheeks and chins-notice any resemblance? )

    Good morning Hatters!

I'm a little behind in my comments and posts; was a tough night shift as I was battling a nasty head/chest cold thru it, but finally done with both (except for the lingering cough) so I'm a happy camper once again. Staying on track food wise; (well I think I have been but tomorrow is weigh day so perhaps I shouldn't count my chickens... lol) today I'll be burning a few calories catching up on laundry and housework; and putting together a shopping list for the rest of the week. I'm lacking a little in the veggie world so that will be my goal this week to catch up in that area.

Tonya - great to have you back sweetie!

Susan: Really?? Miss Groundhog.. because you had the ground hog face down pat??? LOL @ the pics.. no i do not see any resemblance! Your birthday is the same day as my sisters; it's a birthday month in my world; between friends and family there are at least 6 to celebrate.. might have to save my wine calories for those days!

Janet: will be thinking of you today at the service for your MIL.. and sending hugs

Carol I watched little Willie but fell asleep before I found out if he saw his shadow - glad to hear spring is around the corner!! Oooo on the Poconos - sounds fab!!!

Gail - hope all is wel in your world my friend...I have noticed you are doing an awesome job with your logging the past few weeks.. so impressed!! AND pushing the exerise envelope - you are doing fabulously!!!

Tammy - how is the stoopid testing thing going?? Hope your dinner for your dad's birthday was awesome.. I had heard of the chef from the show but didn't realize it was his restaurant - details on the menu choices please!!! salivating...

K.. need to shower and get human(ish) or today will be another write off in my jammies... will be playing catch up this week so forgive my lateness on some postings pls!

Wishing you all a Terrific Tuesday :-)

    Good Morning Ladies,

Ok, so now that I am back on track I am a posting machine...lmao

Snoozie, hope you are feeling better.

Janet, Hugs to your family as you navigate through the next few days. Yesterday must have been very tumultuous as you felt sadness and yet relief that she wasn't suffering anymore. I send my best wishes and lots of hugs.

Susan, I am glad to be back and you may get tired of me posting :) I may have puppy pics coming soon. They go for their spay an neuter tomorrow so you know with the cones they will be hilarious.

Carol, I am envious of the Poconos. I have always wanted to visit. Maybe some day we can make it.

To all the rest of the Hatters, I hope you have a marvelous week (what's left of it) and a great day!

    Morning Hatters

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing - today was my weigh day; I gained three ounces since my last weigh in, but I'm not going to change my ticker for it this week lol.

Heading out for a few chores including some veggie shopping - I'm going to look for one of the vegetarian threads on here just to get some suggestions on new prep ideas for veggies.. but would welcome any fav's from the hatters that are not the usual (roasted, boiled, etc lol) I'm going to make a batch of squirmit (mashed turnip and carrot) and freeze down individual portions of it tomorrow for dayshift, but any and all ideas are welcome pls..

How's everyone finding it heading into February with our goals?? I'm struggling with the exercise asoect as usual.. but will not give up!

I do have a question....Some or most of you know the situation with my mother, brother and son. I had a family friend and he was a landlord of my Mom's for a while. "M" told me at the funeral home that Mom had a storage building on his property and there might be something in it that we wanted. We exchanged numbers and after several calls Rick and I went last weekend with heavy hearts and bolt cutters. I found very little in the way of sentimental or valuable things in the building, so we cleaned and made ready to either pay someone to haul away the trash or to come ourselves to do it. I then called "M" to let him know that the building was open and I would clean it out or if he could recommend someone I would be glad to pay him. That is when he informed me that my Mom owned that building. OMG...now what do I do???? Should I call my brother with whom I haven't spoken with since the funeral or just handle the situation myself and not worry about it.

I know this may seem odd to many of you but I am torn as to what to do. I am not concerned about the monetary gain, as "M" wants to buy the building, however any money that did come my way would be appreciated. That is why I an torn as to what would be the correct thing to do. Since "M" approached me and not my brother my inclination is to handle it and just send my brother the money when all is said and done. Plan "B" is to call my brother and to inform him of the building and the contents and let him handle the whole thing.
What would you do? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

    Tonya..

I'm not sure how things work in the U.S. as compared to here, but if you know who the executor is for your mom's estate, perhaps you could contact whoever it is and let them arrange to have it all removed; executors here can claim a fee as well against the estate for executing all the duties and arrangements so if your mom owned the storage building you might have to contact the executor anyway.. ?
sowwy.. i just don't know how things work stateside :o(

Tonya, I agree with Snooozie. If there is an executor you need to contact them.

I do not know the family situation you have, but when my brother passed, he left no estate of any value, but major debt (100,000's of thousands in medical bills). I needed to clean out his apartment of his personal posessions and provide him with a funeral, but was concerned about my liability if I was to step forward to be executor. I contacted an attorney who met with me for a few minutes for free. Since there was no estate of any value and so much debt it was very unlikely anyone would step up to be executor. I was advised to go ahead & clean out the apartment. I took pictures, just in case anything came of it, provided him with a funeral, and gave what little he had to a dear freind of his.

I would definatly advise consulting an attorney if your case is complicated.

Thanks for all of you kind words of condolences. DH is having a difficult time replaying every decision and doctor's visit since August. I am praying that he reaches peace with the idea that at 84 it was her time. I was humbled by the fact that the last words that she said were to ask me to say the rosary.
Before the last playoff game a nurse said I must be a big ravens fan, she told the nurse no she doesn't watch football, she just has more purple clothes than any one. So I thought it was fitting to wear purple to the viewing and the funeral. I know that a fewpeople left the funeral and headed to the big celebration rally. It was a subdued Super Bowl, because everyone was missing her going up and down the steps too nervous to watch close games.
Snoozie, thanks for the cobbler recipe that you gave me at Christmas, it became a half time ritual during the playoffs and almost a crisis when I couldn't find good berries at the first store. My family would have been upset if I skipped making cobbler for the Super Bowl after making it for every winning playoff game. My mother used to cook with her sisters during colts games, but now everyone except me watches the games. I like the cooking but it would be more fun with company.
One daughter left on her honeymoon today. I took the othe one back to college and DH went with our son back to Michigan for a few days. So I am home alone with LOTS of food. When I got home I threw away the remaining half of the best chocolate cake, 6 muffins and cornbread. If I took them to work in the morning people would have eaten them, but home alone there would be too much temptation for me to handle. This is embarrassing--to make sure that I didn't change my mind before I threw them away, I sprayed them with PAM to make it all inedible. That is the only way to avoid hearing the cake call my name all night.
Miss Groundhog! You are much too cute for that! Happy birthday month!

Janet, These things are tough, and it sounds like time is DH's best friend in this case.

Concerning all that food lying around, clapping-happy-smiley-emoticon.gif to you for getting rid of it, and I think it is hysterical you sprayed spam on it first-that is so something I would do-just haven't thought of that particular trick yet, but can now add it to the book :-)

LOVE the clapping hands with glee pic, Susan!!! and I second the clapping Janet - smart move tossing everything!! Goes against the grain tho doesn't it to throw out perfectly good food.. which is what stopped me many times (that childhood voice about someone starving somewhere in the world??) But I can now tell myself its NOT good food.. its crap... most of the time lol! I've always made sure I threw in something like coffee grounds or some kind of "wet" garbage on top of anything I throw out for exactly the same reason; I'm ashamed to admit I hvae seriously reconsidered a few times after pitching something out... and stood over the garbage actually thinking.. hmmm.... and without the icky stuff thrown on top, I'd have become a garbage picker for sure! Pam idea will come in handy now that I have no grounds with my Keurig lol!

I imagine DH will struggle with those thoughts for a while; I think anyone who has been a caregiver goes through that stage wondering what if.. but will hope as you said in time he will realize he did all he could and it was just her time.

So glad the cobbler worked out LOL!!

and Bis - lovely to see you!! I know Tammy is puterless right now since her hard drive blew up.. keeping paws crossed you can get a new one soon - we miss ya!! Looks like everyone is kinda busy these days - hope the world isn't spinning out of control tho for anyone (cept Lassie at the moment - hang in there kiddo!!)

This morning I hopped on the scale... and I saw THAT number... yep... a number I hvaen't seen in 20 yrs and the number that was gonna freak me out. And it did.. cause for some weird reason I'm not "over the moon" about it... ? I think perhaps there's a part of me that doesn't quite believe it will "stay" there still... that it's just a fluke... and even tho I barely cracked the new set of numbers, it was still very weird seeing it. I DO believe in myself, and I DO believe that I will reach my goal.. but this is the first time Ive actually gotten this low in several decades and I think it scares me.. does that sound psychotic to anyone???? (it's ok if it does lol... but I'd kinda like to hear "no, it doesn't.... " just so I dont have to book a weekend in the little rubber room I have on hold... haaaaaa

anyway.. I have decided not to think too much about it, just keep focusing on eating well and eating less, and still determined I WILL overcome my exercise obstacle... and wait for my regular weigh in next wed to see what gives.

We're scheduled for a huge snowstorm tonight and tomorrow, so better pop out and get a few more groceries to prep stuff for dayshift saturday... have a great day Hatters!

Janet, please take care of your self. Between both in laws you have been under a lot of stress these last few months. I admire your discipline with dealing with the food. The stress allways makes me cave in. I agree with Snooozie, your husband will be second guessing himself for months on decisions he made regarding his mother's care. You should both hold your head high & know you allways did your best.

Snooozie, congrats on the scale victory!!! Happy feet dance for you. We have that storm you are getting comming in tomorrow & combining with another storm. Forcasts call for 2-3 feet of snow in my area with blizzard conditions. I am thinking a big pot of chili on the stove & some heavy cleaning could be done with out electricity.

I am finally starting to feel better and am looking to get back on an exercise routeeen. I think I will try to back up a couple of weeks on the c25k plan. I did start the $$$ in the jar plan before I got sick. The jar is placed on a shelf in front to the dreadmill and will be used for a mani/pedi.

Well have a great day everyone.

Bis, what a great idea bout the jar. I should try that.

Janet, LMAO at the Pam spraying. That might just work for me as well. However, it seems I am never alone these days. :)

Snoozie, stay safe in the snow and congrats on the scales. I know you can do this and next Wednesday will be the proof!

To Bis and Snoozie, I have no idea if there is a will or an executor. That's just how fractured the family is. I tried talking a bit with my brother the other night but I am not sure he was in the state of mind that could comprehend what I was asking. He has a history of alcoholism so I am not sure if he was drunk or just suffers from alcoholic dementia. He didn't remember the beginning of the conversation by the time we hung up. All of this has Rick and I thinking about our arrangements. With the blended family it could be tricky. We are working on getting it all laid out so there aren't any questions.

I hope all of you have a great day!

Hey everyone - just a quick note to say Hi - I think my computer and Tammy's are in the same location.... ouch! and of course MFP keeps having "site maintenance" issues - thus lack of feedback from me...:noway:

But the good news is that my computer is at best buy having a virus removed - something about a download of free music from the internet (FBI warning which is bogus)....- the only thing I use is apple I-tunes (which I simply copy from my CD collection to my I-POD and sync....

And we've lost power at work for 2 days in a row now... ugh - for about 1 or 2 hrs each day... with no warning.... gotta love the local electric company...

Doin the happy dance for snoozie:laugh:

And of course feeling sad for Tonya and Janet.... things always look worse before the sunshine comes back... :flowerforyou:

See you all when life gets back to normal....:glasses:

    Morning Hatters!

Big, big snowstorm hitting us today; very glad I don't go back to work til tomorrow anyway - but just imagining all the kids doing the happy dance re a snow day.. remember the excitement when you were a kid once they announced it - nothing quite equalled that thrill!

Spent an hour yesterday cooking up some healthy dishes for dayshift.. used Lassie's tips to make them healthier and topped my veggie laden shepherds pies with sweet potatos instead of white - am going to make up a chili today and freeze that and some sort of a veggie quiche type (crustless) thing I can nuke for breakfasts at work once I find a recipe online lol. Plan to burn off a few calories finishing cleaning the grout on my ktichen floor (found a nice easy method online using oxygenated cleaning powder) and it did a great job; no scrubbing altho i did use a cheap electric toothbrush to give a little scrub here and there before rinsing. Calorie burn and clean grout.. its a win win lol.

Carol glad your puter is getting fixed - what a pain!

Bis - think you're getting the same storm as us! Glad you're starting to feel better and yay on starting that jar you mentioned!! Woo hoo! I toss mine in my vacation mug and every time I hit $50 I get it changed to U.S. and it becomes my spending money when I do a border run lol.. love the mani/pedi treat idea!!!
Hope everyone else is doing well and hanging in..!!!

Snoozie, look here on the boards for a quiche recipe. I think they are called egg cups or something like that. I used egg whites, turkey sausage, spinach and mushrooms in mine. I have silicone cups like the one for cup cakes. They work great and you can freeze in the same as you cook. If you don't have those, they still freeze and reheat well. I have the ingredients at home just waiting for me to do that very thing...note to self....get off your *kitten* and make breakfast cups!

lol tonya.. thanks - I got one off the net similar to one i've used before; I prefer making the big pie plate one and cutting into 6 pieces rather than the little muffin ones.. i find when i nuke them at that size they get kinda chewy lol. This one turned out great, and only 280 calories - i should have thrown in a bit more veg but i didn't have any spinach so had to settle for peppers and onions and broccoli lol.. just had a piece for lunch tho and was very yummers! And so handy for when im working days - now on to the pot of chili to freeze (but no quinoa this time Bis.. just cannot get past their little tails in there.. yuck lol)

Lost interest in the chili LOL... now I'm staring down a couple of chicken breasts trying to figure out what I can do with them to that requires no work... I'm thinking maybe PUTTING THEM IN THE FREEZER and ordering a pizza would be best!! (HA kidding.. but only becuase theres no way I could make a pizza delivery guy come out in this blizzard mwaaaaaaa hahahaha

k.. back to the chicken.. what to do with ya, dude.....

    tonyacoursey Posts: 404 Member
Quick and simple....make small slit in the middle of the breast. Stuff with spinach, shrooms and some cheese. Roll in bread crumbs and bake in the oven on 350 degrees F for about 35 minutes. Have a veggie or a pasta side and you are good to go. You can even make a little sauce to go over or use one from a can.

Thanks Tonya.. but that's about 4 more steps than I want to take in cooking tonight!! Just gonna throw the little bugger in the oven with some fingerling potatoes to roast alongside it.. the height of laziness? yes indeed... lol ty for trying to save me tho!!!

Should prolly put it in now in case the power goes...

Blizzard here as well Snooozie. It is snowing sideways and supposed to be like this untill tomorrow afternoon or evening. Supposed to get 50 mph winds tonight. Take care at getting to work tomorrow. My son is supposed to work tomorrow, but there is a state of emergency in place & a $500 fine if anyone non essential is on the road. I have no need to be anywhere untill work on Monday. May I suggest cook the chicken with a bit of salsa, or an old, but easy favorite of mine, just a tad of garlic powder. I made a Taco's for the family tonight & a massive taco salad for me. Yummy, and not too bad nutritionaly.

Take care & be safe all.

Hatter friends, please put my friend Cindy's family on your prayer lists. Her elderly parents were driving to her sister's house yesterday for a "safe house" to ride out the storm. They were in an accident, Mr D did not make it & Mrs D is in the hopsital with broken ribs.

We haves some where between 2-3 feet of snow as of the end of today, hard to tell becasue of all the drifting. Good thing I went out & did some shoveling as I made whoopie pies & could not resist eating one of them. To resist more whoopie pies I kept busy cleaning, You would think I was spring cleaning ( I know crazy to do this time of year, esp after a snow storm). I rolled up rugs, washed wood floors, washed & polished wood work . The house looks & smells clean, Now just to make sure everyone takes off those messy boots out in the mud room & not track snowy boots thru the house on my nice clean floors.

Tomorrow I am making some turkey chili to pack away for work lunches & getting myself motivated to go back to work.

Take care & be safe everyone.
