Time dear we going to have to spank ya for thinking we don't want ya !!!
But I totally know what you mean about assuming. How many times have I done that in the past. Of course the weight was the reason I always blamed but as I reflected in the past few years I had to admit I didn't always like who I was so why would I expect others to like me. At the same time I know now it was all part of a circle. Now as I am typing I am thinking maybe that is why this time the journey is different, b/c this time I do like me ( okay most days anyway !!!) so it makes sense that I would make it easier to change me outwardly to be more like the inner me. Why is it we are always hardest on ourselves? So much more seems to make sense the older I get and then it hits me I am OLD !!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I want this wisdom 30 years ago dang it. How much heart ache and pain could have been saved for not just me but those around me. Oh well nothing that can be done so done and time to move forward.

Tammy... I LOVED reading your line about liking yourself now!! YES!! I know exactly what you mean.. in some ways I wish I had the self confidence I am gaining now years back, and the "more comfortable in my own skin" as well..... but like you've I've just decided to focus on having it now and loving it LOL! The best is yet to come for all of us!!
Long day and a real fun drive home in the storm that's hitting us ... only the last few km were dicey but I'm ready to hit the sack! See ya'll in hte morning!
PS: A while back I added Seehe as a Moderator for the group, because you have a lot more options to delete or edit your posts and she was posting all hte pictures for all of us.... at the time I thought hmm I should add all the regular posters so they can have the additional options as well... so tonight I added all of our regulars as Moderators... (I don't think I missed anyone but if I did let me know!)
Next time you post, check the options at the bottom right of your post - there should be a few more now.. :bigsmile:0 -
PPS: Welcome to Dugarcia!! and any other newbies... great to have you and look forward to getting to know ya!!

Good Morning Hatters,
Today is Wednesday and I plan on making it a wonderful Wednesday. I got up for my 5:30am work out and lived to tell about it! I also gained 2 lbs since last Wednesday. That can be a bit troubling, however my sodium lately has been through the roof. I have been struggling to get back in the groove since last August. I went back and checked my diary when I was actually losing. I made a recipe for my breakfast that I hadn't made in months. I cut turnips and cauliflower for snacks and even made some homemade beef jerky without all the sodium of the store bought kind.
I know that I can lose weight I just have to want it badly enough. I am hoping to make a trip to Puyallup in June, a definite MB trip in July and if all goes well our family vacation in August (that one will depend on stepsons recovery). I have all these things to look forward to and I am not making any progress. On Monday I renewed my effort and made some changes. I know I will see results!
Tammy, I like who I have become. I have struggled many years to become the woman I am today and other than my weight, I like who I am (most days). I applaud you for sharing your story and making us all realize that we need to be happy with ourselves.0 -
Morning Hatters!
I love me, but I'm hating this mentlepause side effect of broken sleep  But this morning on my final wake up at around 6, I decided to just lay there anyway LOL.. and fell back asleep for another hour, so feel more human now. Well, maybe not quite human.. but as close as I'm gonna get today! :grumble: I may look like hell, but I'm on vacation after tonites shift, so I'll be a cheeful dancing fool at work mwaaahahaha -
Tonya: IPOU for going back thru your diary and doing the mental mamba to get yourself in the right place. Lately I have been reshifting my focus to getting off my blood sugar medications rather than the weight loss - so its been more about food choices and find myself repeating often (and out loud.. which can garner me some strange looks) "what do i want more - the donut or to get off the meds". Sometimes the donut wins for sure, but more often now just saying it out loud helps me remember what I want more and I can walk away from it. (more often.. not always lol).
So know that we all understand how hard it is to get into both the right mental and emotional place to focus on our goals.. cause we've all been there (and will be again for sure!) so huge congrats to you my friend... sounds like you have indeed found that place for you! So proud of ya and we will be here to cheer ya on every day!
The storm is still going here but has just turned to straight snow by the looks of it.. its supposed to continue all day so guess I should leave an hour earlier to allow for travel time and snow plows lol. Have a wonderful day Hatters!!!! Only a few days left of February.. and we all know what March means... SPRING IS ON THE WAY!! woo hoooo!0 -
Wow snoozie - now I'm a moderator too?? Thanks.....
So - here's the latest updates:
gastro yesterday - went well - no "special" exams.... and I don't need to see him for another 6 months  .... at that time he'll probably send me for the MRI and of course I'll be 50 so I get the joy of the "over 50 special".....for my birthday....
regular check up today - went well, had the bloodwork - and my clumsiness is probably due to the Aug 2010 incident... but if I strengthen my right side that should help... and since I have a fungus on my toenails might get a prescripition - but that's if the gastro guy oks it since the medicine is rough on the liver... here's hoping....
the bummer about today's check-up was that I had to fast for 12 hrs.... so that meant no breakfast for me - who usually eats at 0530.... but got home had the coffee and am now awake... and not living on zombie island....
and this afternoon I'm going for my dental - 2 fillings... yep, you guessed - checked out from head to toe and everything in between...
See you all soon
Carol0 -
lol @ at the inbetweens, C!! Glad you got such a good check up tho!! Yay!
Tonya.. pardon my ignorance.. but what or where is puyallup and MB? (Here MB is Manitoba.. but I'm guessing that ain't your destination?)0 -
Puyallup is in Washington state. My nephew graduates high school in June and I really want to go. I saw him come into this world and he just seems like part mine.
MB is short for Myrtle Beach South Carolina. I met Donnaakamagmid (MFP friend) there last year and I am meeting her again this year. Another reason to get real with the weight loss...she is killing it and I want to be able to keep up with her.
The family vacation will be on Anna Maria Island off the coast of Florida. That one is still up in the air since we won't know if Ray will have his second hip replacement by then.0 -
Lol Ty tonya Of all of them I should have known MB. Half the guys I know go there for golfing !0

Really enjoyed reading everybody's recent posts. I couldn't agree more with how liking oneself is so valuable. I strive to remember that being "good enough" doesn't involve perfection.
Tonya, it sounds like you have some great trips planned-can I go in your suitcase? I am getting bored I have a friend from Chicago visiting me in the second week of March and my older sister is visiting in April, but I need to go somewhere fun sometime soon!
Carol- so glad everything checked out OK
For some reason I am feeling very tired and lethargic today. Hope I'm not coming down with anything! I want to go to my yoga class today-hope I can make it through the hour and a half :yawn:0 -
TA, I agree it makes a huge difference when you are eating healthy because you like yourself as compared to trying to lose weight because you don't like the person that you are. We are all so much more than the size of our body. To keep motivated I periodically revisit my motivation question-why do I want to lose weight? For me the more positive the answers the more likely I will, stay on course.
Carol, congrats on the healthy check up!!! Now you are all clear for the final push to goal!
Tonya, lots of summer plans sounds great-do you have a too small summer outfit to hang on your closet door as a constant reminder of where you want to be? That always helps me.
Hatters- what should our March 2013 discussion title be?
A lot of articles coming out about the Mediterranean diet study, this paragraph from the nytimes sums it up. And it sums up the way that I want to eat, I eat a lot less processed food than I used to, but I still have a way to go.
"Let’s cut to the chase: The diet that seems so valuable is our old friend the “Mediterranean” diet (not that many Mediterraneans actually eat this way). It’s as straightforward as it is un-American: low in red meat, low in sugar and hyperprocessed carbs, low in junk. High in just about everything else — healthful fat (especially olive oil), vegetables, fruits, legumes and what the people who designed the diet determined to be beneficial, or at least less-harmful, animal products; in this case fish, eggs and low-fat dairy.
This is real food, delicious food, mostly easy-to-make food. You can eat this way without guilt and be happy and healthy. Unless you’re committed to a diet big on junk and red meat, or you don’t like to cook, there is little downside." Red wine is also a plus.0 -
ugh... made the changes... honesty is the best policy....
currently at 180.. up from the 176 going to the poconos...:grumble: and want to get to 165..(instead of the initial 160) size 12 pant...
maybe I'm just having a moment... thoughts???

" or you don’t like to cook, there is little downside."
In the words of scooby doo !!! rut roh!0 -
Time2, I do not know what happened, but glad to see you are still here.
Snooozie, Seehe & Hairspray seem to be rocking this weight loss thing, but it seems some of us, myself included are not seeing movement from the scale. I have been making healthy choices for the most part & just had my blood work repeated. Lab work all looks great. Cholesterol down a few more points, so I now can continue to stay off my cholesterol medication. I am anxious to get outside in the mornings, it is now bright enough in the AM's, but with ice & snow on the ground not safe quite yet.
Hairspay, I have a dear friend who eats primarily the Mediterranean diet. She is 85, and you would swear she was 60. Your bringing up the mediterranean diet reminded me of her, Lila is very cosmopolitan. She lives in Boston & often particapates in medical studies. A few years back she was in a diet study where participants had to follow a particular diet for several months while all food was provided. She came to my house over the holidays that year with all her little brown bags of food and could only eat what was provided to her by the study. I remember back then one of them was the Mediterranean diet & the study results showed it being most effective on blood pressure, weight and cholesterol. For several months Lila had all her food provided thru the study & in the end got paid several thousand dollars for participating in it.
Do any other hatters have thoughts on the diet? Knowing I need to switch some things up this has got me thinking.0 -
Hairspray / Bisland....
Hubby strikes again... he brought up the mediterranean diet for us..... may not always follow... but salad, olive oil, and wine (for snoozie).......hmmmmm

Thursday 5:30am workout complete! I feel good about how this is going. I feel like I did last January when I started here on MFP. That for me is a great thing. Based on what I learned last year about myself and the help and encouragement from all of you I know I can lose some more weight this year. I just have to remind myself that I didn't gain it overnight and it won't come off overnight. It's been a while since I have felt this in control! I think in part its because of all of you but mostly it's because I got my head out of my a@@! I hope all you have a great day!
On to the mediterranean diet....I love my meat and looking at the food pyramid for that I am not sure I could do it. I certainly love all the other aspects of it.0 -
Good morning Hatters!
Well, here we are .. the last day of February.. does anyone else feel like the first two months of this year has just flown by??? Maybe its just when you’rer young you can't wait to be older, but when you're older, time seems to go by so fast sometimes
I've been thinking about Janet's question about what topics we might discuss for March; and I wondered if maybe it might be an idea to make new topics the actual theme for the whole month? Well, new everything really lol
Although spring is technically still a few weeks away, March usually signifies renewal and new growth - so maybe we could follow suit, and make it a month where our group goal might be to open each of ourselves up a little to new things - and offering new ideas and thoughts and experiences to the group… and each of us perhaps deciding that even if its just one thing this month.. we’ll consider it! and whether its mentally, emotionally, physically….doesnt matter. Just the decision to consider new ideas or thoughts or foods or experiences or whatever – anything and every thing that perhaps we might never have considered or tried or even heard of. Our Hatters are spread far and wide and although we are lucky enough to have much in common at this stage of our lives and with our own personal health and weight loss goals, we all have varied outside interests and life experiences, and maybe this month could be about discovering new things.
For me personally, I found myself becoming too resistant to change as I got older. Becoming a little too complacent and comfortable.... it’s only in the past two years that I’ve realized I needed to change my mindset and start saying “yes” or “sure, I’m game!” and stretching outside my comfort zone a little in many areas. Baby steps maybe… but it’s not about going hog wild LOL.. just about beginning to embrace new ideas - I never would have believed I’d ever even try yoga for example (figured I’d be the one in the class tapping their foot with impatience and saying yeah yeah moving on.. what’s next lol) but being part of the Hatters was a large part of my decision to give it a go.. hearing others say they really enjoyed it, and others who found a class intimidating but were brave enough to get past it.. really helped get me to the “oh what the hell why not” mindset (otherwise known as the trying new things LOL) AND I’m bound and determined to try okra… and now, I’m going to read up on the Mediterrean diet concept and see what it has to offer. Like Tonya, I’m a die hard red meat lover – plus I hate to cook LOL.. BUT I love veggies so I’ll check it out and see what its all about )
Anyway, that’s all I got for ideas for March (lol… I know.. most of you probably fell asleep reading all this!) Today will be spent catching up on chores around here and determining my own personal goals for March – and what I need to do and change up to meet them! Now to read up on some posts and do a few replies, then git crackin’! Have a fabulous day Hatters, and thanks for all the support and encouragement along the way – like some of the others have said, I honestly believe being part of this group has made the difference!0 -
Snoozie, Does this mean I have to try peanut butter, bananas or mayonnaise? along with white bread and oatmeal those are probably the only things I can't eat. Here in the south people take the dreaded white bread and add the first 3 to make sandwiches...yukky
LOL, I don't even think I could do it closing my eyes and holding my nose!0 -
Tonya: I actually laughed out loud reading your “got my head out of my $ss” comment – cause I can so relate!! Huge kudos girl on sticking with those 530am workouts!!!! I know you’ll be thrilled with your progress when the trips come up.. and I’m with Seehe – can we come with you on your trips lol?? Will keep paws crossed the FLA one comes thru too!
Bis – awesome news on the labs!! And fabulous on staying OFF the meds through better choices.. that’s awesome! Geez.. I would someone would pay ME and give me my food lol.. I haven’t checked the MD out yet but its on my “to do” list for today! (mind you.. so is a nap lol…so we’ll have to see which comes first!) I hear ya on the ice and snow still keeping you from walking.. last time I attempted a snow walk I was afraid of taking a header and breaking something!
Carol – re your “just having a moment – any thoughts?” hmmm.. little confused? Thinking maybe you mean about resetting your goal weight to 165 instead of 160? If so, I think its great! I think we’ll all know when we get to the right weight for us… I too have an “end” weight in mind, but I’m not too worried about the specific number (yet anyway as I still have a long way to get to it LOL) but its just a guide for me.. when I get where I’m comfortable, that’ll be the number I make it lol)
Janet – one of my goals this month is to get rid of a lot of stuff that’s too big now to actually wear thanks to your postings.. we don’t have consignment shops around here, but I don’t need any news clothes to replace them at the moment and am trying to save my pennies as I need 4 new tires lol.. BUT.. one of the first things to go will be.. weirdly.. UNDERWEAR! Yes…. Perhaps too much info?? LOL but seriously.. I have a ton of plain cotton undies (like the Hanes or fruit of the loom type) that every time I put on, end up riding down during the day and bunching up cause they’re just too big… but do I toss them? Noooo I just keep washing them and putting them back in the drawer.. and then an hour into wearing them again I remember crud.. they’re falling down! So come hell or high water, this week.. they will be gone! (baby steps… lol then I’ll move on to other stuff!)
And doncha wish we could “bottle” that great feeling we get when we’ve found our mojo and are feeling good about ourselves… so we could pull it out and spritz it on for those days when we don’t? Sigh..
Susan: hope you’re feeling better today and that it was just a one off, and not coming down with something. I can’t even IMAGINE at this point surviving 1.5 hrs of yoga lol.. well done!!!!!!!
Tammy: we’re not old, we’re vintage LOL!! But I know what you mean; “if only” can be a mind game that sends most of us off kilter now and again; but you’re absolutely right – better to focus on the future and all the awesomeness we have now to enjoy it! Hows the new puter btw?
Time2: so glad you found your phone (or hubby did lol).. sorry home puter is out of service.. guess having to work is a GOOD thing on occasion if you can pop in there at least lol.. ) You’re rocking the exercise lately I notice… so proud of you!!
Well.. need to get off my butt and away from the computer before the day is gone!! Later, taters!0
