Snoozie, Does this mean I have to try peanut butter, bananas or mayonnaise? along with white bread and oatmeal those are probably the only things I can't eat. Here in the south people take the dreaded white bread and add the first 3 to make sandwiches...yukky

LOL, I don't even think I could do it closing my eyes and holding my nose!

    HOWLING WITH LAUGHTER!!!

NO way, my friend... the joy of being 50 means we dont ever gotta eat nothing we don't like (or at last that's my rule now - Ino matter how many people tell me that greek yorgurt is "fabulous" if you just add honey.. or just do this to it.... I hate it.. I hate everything about it.. the texture, the taste, and I am just never going to eat it again.... period point! (still laughing at the visual of you with your nose plugged btw)

I just meant try anything new... or just bring up a new topic for discussion lol.. read a book you wouldnt usually, try a new exercise, read a magazine article you would usually skip past, try a new food if you WANT... buy a pair of pink socks instead of white, set a new goal you've never tried before.. whatever... doesnt matter lol... just something new or different in any area.. to change things up lol...

but now i'm thinking of a PBJ sammich for lunCh LOLOLOL

Bisland, no cholesterol medication is a Huge NSV! Soon as the ice and snow melts you will be out there walking and the pounds will start departing!
Snoozie, LOL you could have been describing my underwear drawer before I cleaned it out and threw away the drawers that I could tuck into my bra.
Tonya and other red meat lovers, I don't think any of us are going to be 100percent Mediterranean diet folks. But I think the most important part is cutting down on the processed food. There is a big difference between a lean steak you make on the grill and a frozen hamburger. I also think there is a big difference between a pork loin pork chop and a hot dog. And if the red meat is giving you as many grams of protein as it is fat, it is better.
I hate to cook, too. Which is why most of my veggies are in salads or raw. Need those 30 grams of fiber!
There are many things our food needs to do in addition to controlling what size we are. The key is not to follow any "diet" rigorously. The thing about a "diet" is that it begins and ends. For me the key is to re establish my relationship with food, so I can learn that food that tastes good and adds nutrients is what I need and want.
When my girls were growing up (neither ever had any weight issues) they would sometimes ask if some food was "bad" I always told them that no food is bad, foods vary in nutritional value and some have hardly none. So if you want to eat Cheetos that is ok as long as you eat them rarely and get enough nutrition from other foods. I also "forced" them to be physically active. Why didn't I do the same for me? Can't change that, but these days I ask myself would you feed this to a teenage daughter? If the answer is no, most of the time I don't eat it or drink it (no diet coke in 2 years)
Finding food that tastes good and is nutritious is the only way to make this a permanent life change. And what tastes good is unique to each of us.
    Enjoy today's food choices!

Janet, I think you hit right on my problem the last few weeks and even months. Processed foods. I am trying to up the veggies and go back to cooking my breakfast/ lunch. Now that Cassie is on the get healthy wagon dinners have become much better :)

On the menu tonight...chicken (poultry) and that is on the Mediterranean diet...hehehehe

I totally agree that part of the problem for me is the reduced veggies. I do eat a salad daily for lunch (now that my wonderful lunch ladies are offering them to us teachers) but I need fresh maters, squash, cucumbers etc.... I also am begging to believe I was starving myself fat !!! I have been very careful the last week to keep number no less than my bmr and I am feeling slimmer. While away for the mini bday vacation I basically doubled my calories but peeking the the scales they have moved. Btw both of these over the last two months I am at - 6 since Christmas. So I am ready for garden season hoping that increasing the veggies along with watching the numbers more closely.

As for the mayo, banana, peanut butter sandwich I never have understood how someone could eat that. Now I do like banana and peanut butter but mayo just seems so yuck !!!!

Janet the conversation you had with your children sound like the ones I share with mine. The little one goes up and down according to school breaks and that is with us packing her a lunch most days. I rarely say anything about her choice since she is very good about choosing veggies and watching her portions. We have been cutting back on the bread b/c she hasn't been finishing her sandwich. She loves salads so maybe I should see if she would want to take them a few days a week. Funny that while I often took a salad I never thought to suggest one for her.

Well hope everyone has a great Thursday just one more day until the weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH
