For those of you who didn't join in with last years challenge, what I propose is that as a team of 9 riders we try and ride between us a distance each day equal to or greater than the distance of that day’s stage in the Grand Tours (The Giro d'Italia, Tour De France and La Vuelta Espana). The person in the team who rides the largest total km’s gets the Leaders Jersy, the person achieving the fastest average speed overall gets the Sprinters jersey and the person who posts the highest total ascent figure in metres gets King of the Mountains jersey.
The First Part of this challenge is the Giro d'Italia - the stages for this race, and distances involved are as follows…
1 Saturday, May 4 156 km Napoli → Napoli
2 Sunday, May 5 17.4 km Ischia → Forio
3 Monday, May 6 212 km Sorrento → Marina di Ascea
4 Tuesday, May 7 244 km Policastro Bussentino → Serra San Bruno
5 Wednesday, May 8 199 km Cosenza → Matera
6 Thursday, May 9 154 km Mola di Bari → Margherita di Savoia
7 Friday, May 10 162 km San Salvo → Pescara
8 Saturday, May 11 55.5 km Gabicce Mare → Saltara
9 Sunday, May 12 181 km San Sepolcro → Firenze
R Monday, May 13 Rest day
10 Tuesday, May 14 167 km Cordenons → Altopiano del Montasio
11 Wednesday, May 15 184 km Tarvisio (Cave del Predil) → Vajont (Erto e Casso)
12 Thursday, May 16 127 km Longarone → Treviso
13 Friday, May 17 242 km Busseto → Cherasco
14 Saturday, May 18 156 km Cervere → Bardonecchia (Jafferau)
15 Sunday, May 19 150 km Cesana Torinese → Col du Galibier (FR)
R Monday, May 20 Rest day
16 Tuesday, May 21 237 km Valloire (FR) → Ivrea
17 Wednesday, May 22 203 km Caravaggio → Vicenza
18 Thursday, May 23 19.4 km Mori → Polsa
19 Friday, May 24 138 km Ponte di Legno → Val Martello
20 Saturday, May 25 202 km Silandro → Tre Cime di Lavaredo
21 Sunday, May 26 199 km Riese Pio X → Brescia
a total of 3405km (call it 2114 miles - or just over 100 miles a day on average...)
To verify the distances/speeds/ascents rides would ideally need to be logged via some form of GPS and posted to either Strava or Garmin Connect. As I’d be looking at average speeds and climbs, I think that it’s only appropriate to restrict this challenge to outdoor mileage only.
So – anyone up for a challenge ??
Hopefully I've given enough time for people to see this, and sign up - who knows - we might even have enough people for more than one team...

Yin is it all Garmin this year or will Strava work? If strava then give me 307, if not I'll just ride to ride. Thanks for all you do to promote and encourage.
TBY EDIT: Garmin Connect or Strava are fine - I have had to "rationalise" down to those 2, last year I was checking something like 6 different sites and it meant I was spending more time looking for peoples rides than I was spending riding...0 -

Thanks TBY for putting my name down for Giro! Seeing the team has been filled up already when I woke up this morning, I had a panic moment that no spot left

I was worried that the second team would fill up before you and Fran logged in, so just dropped your names into the list as you'd already expressed an interest.
Traditionally, the lowest number Dossard on a team is the person who's most likely to be going for the GC competition - so, I guess what you need to do is ride more km's than everyone else in the challenge... (just kidding - you really just need to ride and log your distance, same as everyone else...)0 -

I always thought that the team leader sat on the wheel of their Domestiques until half way up the last hill, then mullered it... PMSL0 -
Hiya-
I'm newer around here, and trying to get my head around this. Does each person ride that much every day all month, or are we trying to hit those numbers collectively, as a team? (I think it's the team, because individual riding would be... well, we'd all have to be unemployed!)
If my understanding is correct, please call me 314!0 -

yeah - it's collective effort - between all 9 members of the team we have to try and hit that days route distance. So if the stage is 180km, we need to average 20km each.... When you run the numbers, it's eminently do-able, but obviously not everyone will ride every day, and some may do 2 big rides on a weekend and not much through the week... we've not failed yet though - 2 teams in 2 grand tours and all 4 greater totals than the total km's... ok, some stages were a little short of distance, and others - well - prologue stages, pretty much everyone did more than the stage distance EACH, but overall, we completed the route...0 -

True - but last year, on his request, he had the tricolour... Having worked in the construction industry for 10 years, I made a point of asking0
